The I’m older than you therefore more experienced, is one of the weakest arguments I hear regularly. The young and dumb phrase I find hilarious, I understand it means experience, but The sad truth is some 25 year olds have experienced more shit than some 60 year olds. I remember being 14 teaching a 50 year Old how to use a fucking ratchet strap. 😂 The idea someone’s younger than you therefore you can’t learn from them is probably the kinda people the young and dumb phrase should be referring to, I suspect when you don’t care to learn, then if you’re young and dumb, one day you’ll also be old and dumb. That’s probably why you left this meaningless comment on my RUclips video.
Garandthumb has a video on his channel testing this with drywall and proves you correct. 5.56x45 when using hollowpoints and light soft tips will penetrate into whatever the hell it's trying to get into and then immediately fragment and dump all of its energy, which is 1,000 ft/lbs within 100 yards
@@BrokeBoysManifesto by not mentioning the drastic loss in flight speed after penetrating a human body? No buddy it didn’t go over my head. I’m just pointing out how your comparison is inaccurate and in no way actually helps anyone. Secondly, anyone who actually knows firearms and rounds wouldn’t keep fmj in their home for home defense. Thirdly, you’d most likely hit a stud long-ways. Going through 3 1/2 inches instead of 1 1/2. Your comparison shows nothing. I’d educate myself before trying to teach someone about firearms little buddy. You clearly don’t know enough to instruct.
A man who actually has used his firearms once said “Pistols put holes in people. Rifles put holes through people. its really less about caliber or platform and more about proper ammunition selection. a poly-tipped lightweight high velocity round like 50gr hornady v-max or a federal frangible would be stopped by 2 boards just fine
Your testing method is suspect, and your conclusion is wrong due to it. My department set up a shoot box where we could build multiple walls inside an 8" section, with 2x4s and drywall. You know, the way walls are actually made. Not just stacking 2x4s on top of each other. The 5.56 round went through 3 walls. EVERY pistol round we shot, .38, .357, 9mm, .40S&W, and .45 blew through the entire shoot box. The hollow point filled up with gypsum, turned the round into a ball round, and it didn't stop until it ran out of momentum. You really should educate yourself before you give dangerous advice like this.
@@NinjaxWizardGoVroomevidence can be found if you actually look for it. There’s plenty of rifle ammo that’s made to only penetrate enough and basically explode on impact with soft tissue. Those are 100% preferred vs a handgun.

@@BrokeBoysManifesto Wood doesn't really expand hollowpoints. Then there are things like the 35 grain NTX that won't even overpenetrate a rabbit, they do just a bit less than 4000 fps out of a 16" barrel too. Secondly, when they're all stacked up like that, the bullet doesn't have space to destabilize, and things like sheetrock are heavier than wood which will destabilize it even further. If you're that worried about overpenetration, light fast bullets are the ticket.
@BrokeBoysManifesto Do you not know how 5.56 works? The standard bullets shred themselves apart upon impact due to the speed they're going (meaning it wont punch through walls to hit something behind it), you making them slower is just going to make it worse 😂😂😂
As a conversation with my local LEO went, he said one of the biggest mistakes people make is presuming that the only time they will need defense is in their home and at night. He recommended getting your conceal and carry permit and keeping your gun with you at all times because she had come to the aid of plenty of gun owners who had left their gun at home and were assaulted in broad daylight. With that in mind, Pick your choice of handgun, 9 mm, 45, whatever. And be prepared. 🤠
I saw an AR-10 at a museum. I think it was chambered in a 7.62x51 or .30-06? Be interesting to shoot one. It looked like an M-16 that wasn’t quite finished yet. Prolly leaves a hell of a whole. Are they making them now?
12ga #4 Buck is where it’s at. Will not over-penetrate your exterior walls. And in general 12ga is just a very effective cartridge. It’s the theoretical best caliber to incapacitate an intruder on the 1st shot, which in a home defense situation, that’s basically what you want to optimize for.
Pretty much all bullets go through walls. You can get frag bullets or choose your caliber all that stuff. Really the most important thing is to practice with your firearm, become very familiar with it, also know your house where you are where the bad guy is and where your family is. Know your target and what is beyond it, basic firearm safety. Plan for different scenarios.
I can walk anywhere in my house blindfolded in the pitch black. I can’t sleep unless I know exactly how many steps I need to take to go piss if it’s blackout dark in my house. I have to know exactly how many steps and when to turn to get to my kids the refrigerator front door back door the whole nine. I can wake from a dead sleep and walk anywhere in my house I need to without lights.
They aren’t for home defense they are for self defense. That’s a much broader statement. It’s truly a good argument for having many guns, many calibers and lots of ammo😊
Guns are like any other tools. Use the right tool for the right job. Do your research, test out what works for you in your particular set of circumstances and come up with what you believe will best suit you.
The title should be you shouldn't use FMJ or black tip 5.56 for home defense. There are plenty of AR rounds with much more expansion and much less penetration that are perfectly fine for home defense. Not to mention you can get an AR in just about any caliber, rifle or pistol. Personally I use the good old 12ga.
Yah... stoeger coach gun side by side 12g. I suppose it be better if had 30 pounds of accessories on a plastic toy for a maybe 10 yard shot. A shot statistically I'll probably never have to make
I think the best part is it uses the same parts as a 5.56 AR15 aside from the barrel of course since it's in the 30 cal selection. Don't even need to swap out the mags just use the same ones.
@@piperp9535that's not quite true. Yes, lower velocity will slow down FMJ rounds, but it will not deform hollowpoints as much, thus making them penetrate deeper. Take the 110 Gr. V-max rounds on the market. A gold standard bullet choice in 300 blk self-defense. If you have that thing flying at 2400 fps from a 16" barrel, it will fragment and penetrate about 10 inches, amd leave one hell of a hole in the target. It will definitely not overpenetrate. Conversely, an 8" barrel will fling that same bullet about 2000-2100 fps and penetrate up to 16" and retain much more weight because of the slower rate of travel, which will not cause it to fragment as much. While overpenetration isn't likely, and if it does it likely won't be with a lot of energy, the possibility of it overpenetrating is very possible at slower speeds.
@@CrashRacknShoot Let's be specific, I'm talking a 7" barrel, and no FMJ, just hollow point bullets, 220 GR. Just remember, you are responsible for everything that round hits. So if you hit the intruder, it goes through, and hits Billy's mom next door, you are responsible. Can't claim self defense for her murder.
45 is the best standard round for home defense. Slow but hits like a freight train. Doesn't over penetrate and is naturally subsonic, so you keep your ears. Plus, it's affordable and readily available. I understand some have very delicate wrists or simply can't handle recoil in general, so i get it.
Even using a .22 pistol is a fine weapon - mainly for females- criminals don't stay around when bullets start coming downrange. use a 22 magnum and recoil is light for the weaker members. Ruger Mark IV, Walther 22 and others are wonderful, high quality, and even reliable for a rim fire weapon.
@bigbob3772 I'd never advocate for a 22 in a life or death situation. There's no recoil because the round is all but ineffective. Will they die from several shots, yes. Will they know they've been shot until after the incident? Probably not. You can find countless videos. 357 is the best proven round for self defense from a ballistics standpoint. Past that whatever offers the most expansion and accuracy

At 5-30 yards or even 5-25 feet, a 55 grain projectile Whether its FMJ, soft point, hollow point, tipped etc, will still pass through a target due to velocity and body mass.

A.) Use whatever weapon your most comfortable with for home defense, ar15 or not. B.) A 9mm is still going through 2 or 3 2x4s so. If you miss, it is still capable of going through your wall and into someone else's. You are not removing that risk by using a pistol instead of an AR. You absolutely still have to worry about the same exact issue. The difference may very well be that the 223 can go through a person and still hit someone else but, depending on where someone is hit, so can a 9mm. While there is still a reduced chance, it does not replace the worry that you have to know whats behind what you be shooting at. Bottom line, use what you know, and know where you are shooting.
Good comment. I may be able to use a 10MM or bigger - and it be ethical for hunting and self defense(they wouldnt suffer). Yet on the flip my 5’ tall wife might have issues wielding it. She might be able to shoot a 300 win mag once while hunting(just an example) - but wouldn’t be able to make follow up shots with a .44 mag in a self defense setup. Ethical is important hunting more than self defense; that said; you see dudes get turned to pin-cushions by cops and 9MM’s and they keep coming. They just put holes, aren’t great for dropping someone fast(.357 was terrible at energy transfer too).
That’s what home defense rounds are for, they are made to break into pieces and stay inside the body, and won’t pass through walls either. You can get them in 5.56, 223, 300bo which is recommended the most, and tons of other rounds too.

This is a subjective test what kind of ammo was used was it a green tip? FMJ? Spire tip, ballistic tip? Hollow point? A 223 with ballistic tip rounds would stop in probably 2 boards
If you use an AR for home defense you should use subsonic rounds. First, the BANG of a normal .223 round is deafening, no less several rounds. This is very disorienting and will rob you of hearing anything. Even with a silencer, the rounds will be quite loud indoors. Second, you don’t need the normal range of a .223 as most your shots will be less than 30’. Third, use soft point ammo, which will reduce the over penetration problem.

12ga #4 Buck is where it’s at. Will not over-penetrate your exterior walls. And in general 12ga is just a very effective cartridge. It’s the theoretical best caliber to incapacitate an intruder on the 1st shot, which in a home defense situation, that’s basically what you want to optimize for.
and grandma's ears rang for 1 hr after that 1st shot
Pretty much all bullets go through walls. You can get frag bullets or choose your caliber all that stuff. Exactly, my favorite in AR Pistol form, shorter barrel reduces velocity, lowers penetration some more.
This caliber is highly underated and misunderstood by a lot of people. I agree with you.
Expect that’s the thing. You won’t know. Anything can happen at literally any moment you don’t get too choose.
Try shooting through drywall three inches apart and then see the bullet tumble and not penetrate so much. Then shoot a 9 mm to 45 and see it penetrate more than the 223/556.
Idk about that....9mms bounce off windshields.
On what planet does this happen? Because that isn't the case on this planet.
@@johnhermann7498you can literally go look up live ammo tests lmao. Especially with hollow points. 5.56 hollow points have half the mass of a 9mm HP and obviously less than that for 45 while traveling much much faster - and mass+speed is extremely important for how quickly a round starts tumbling and fragmenting.
Any bullet will go through drywall, there's no getting around that when you can put your hand through drywall with relative ease. That said, hp 5.56 will fragment sooner than the heavier pistol rounds
I've worked calls where people have put 9mm rounds from one end of a trailer all the way through the other and out the side. 9mm has the right combo of weight and speed to go through a bunch of household stuff.

Every 80 year old in America has said “Nothings scarier than the sound of a pump action shotgun cycling!”
That beautiful sound. I've always enjoyed that sound. #6 shoot will make a mess depending on range but you won't have to worry about them leaving except in a bag
That very same sound sent 1 female and 3 of her male co-defendants running before they were able to invade my home. It turns out they were just Mormon missionaries 😅
Jokes obviously, but seriously the sound of two shotguns racking from two different positions did run off a group of home invaders at my house 10 years ago. The men were hiding in the shadows of a weeping willow in my front door, they sent the female up to try and get us to open the door. They ran all the way back to where they had their car stashed around the corner.

What projectile were you using? I’d pick a better one if it were me.
This is exactly why I use my AR15 for home defense. I’m getting older and I can’t run up and down the stairs too fast. I can just stand in one spot and take care of things.
I might be home alone on floor 3 and the bad guys will be trippin when bullets start coming down through the ceiling
With American homes, that's the equivalent of going through every house on your block.
It’s called preparing, knowing your home and where not to shoot. A handgun or buckshot will go through walls as well. Train, prepare and be responsible.
All true, personally I keep bird shot in my home defense shotgun. Pretty much won't go through walls unless you hold the muzzle up to it, but you're still turning an intruder within a rooms distance into ground beef

He's right. Used something bigger
“This is why you should use a Carl Gustav M4 for home defense - let’s line up some T90M main battle tanks and see how many it can pierce!”
Agreed
What is an example of one of these rounds?
@@saber0089 just Google “home defense AR ammo”and it’ll show you plenty of options. You have to build the AR to be able to function with sub sonic ammo but it’s a great option for home defense imo. My personal home defense is a 7.5in sbr 300bo with subsonic hollow points made by Steinel.

Grandpa's old double barrel has worked for my family since 1908. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Much better shot guns made since 1908
If you use an AR for home defense you should use subsonic rounds.
Less than 30 ft? Hell, inside a house it's going to be less than 10 ft.
Any gun indoors will 100% cause you’re ears to ring even outdoors I’ve shot my AR15 without ear pro more than once so I recommend it no but I personally am used to still shooting just as accurately even with my ears ringing
