- First Landing Autocare talks cabin air filters. Do you even know if your car has one? If you're not sure, stop by our shop and we'll let you know. Some, like the one shown in this video are easy to get to. Others, not so much.
Wally only pulled out half of the filter… the right-hand side. That particular vehicle (GM U-platform mini van) has two identical filters accessible through the same hatch. You put one in then slide it to the left then you put another in straight and close it all up.

I think it is to funny how people keep asking him about their cars an if they have one. They can clearly see that he isnt answering anybody but they still ask !!
Mark, I just bought a 2013 F-150 XLT. Wanted to change the cabin filter when I realized it didn't have one, I assumed it did. I searched for a retrofit kit with no luck. Do you know of any. Thanks, Jim
Ugh. Very few cars even had cabin air filters 25 years ago, and that’s when dealers jumped at the opportunity to create another maintenance item to bill people who don’t know any better. People love to point out how “filthy” a “neglected” filter is, but the only relevance is reduced air flow since the filthier it is the more filtration it has. All this pearl-clutching does nothing. Just point out that they are typically cheap and easily accessible, since that’s what most don’t realize when they fall for the dealer tricks.
Charging 100 dollars for 2 minutes of work and an 11 dollar filter
@@nathancarter5034 Indeed… and in this case with their expertise they didn’t even notice that they only pulled out half of a two-piece cabin air filter. ;) They probably would’ve noticed when the replacement arrives with two filter elements.

You could have sold them one easy peasy simply by showing them the crap filter. Show them, and state, "This is what you are breathing." Sold!
That’s the dealer/service station sales trick but the reality is “this is what you’re NOT breathing since the filter caught it.” ;) Airflow goes down, of course, but the filtration only improves the more it’s clogged up.
And what will you charge them to do this?
A 2012 GMC Sierra 1500 did not have a cabin air filter I looked at behind the glove box and also the cover underneath the glove box and there was no place for a cabin air filter is that true

No. Make sure your system is in the recirculation mode so you're not cooling hot air from the outside.

Well, yeah. It’s obviously still doing it’s job. You want that stuff going directly into the car? Filtration doesn’t suffer when a filter starts to fill up with junk… quite the opposite. Filtration typically improves but airflow goes down. The junk obviously has to make it through the filter AND other junk to get into the cabin. ;)
@@emmettturner9452 thanks for bringing me back to this classic. Yes give me the filter with debris in it vs no filter. It's just the sequence of events and the fact they put it back instead of replacing it. Comedy gold.

@@JustinM2025 LOL! It’s even better if you recognize that as a GM U-platform minivan (Trans Sport, Venture, Montana, Silhouette, Uplander, etc) with **two** filter elements for the cabin air filter. There is another just to the left that needs to be slid to the right and extracted from the same opening. They didn’t even touch that one!
They would likely realize their mistake when the replacement includes two identical filters but they might just think it included an extra. :)

no it does not but they sell one that you can install your self I believe I saw one on amazon
You can buy a kit that has the door and screw and air filter. Some have the door and some just have a spot that you use a utility knife to cut out the spot, put filter in, place tab of door in slot, push up and install screw.
