This was a VERY well organized video with a good balance between delivering information in an entertaining and educational way.
This video makes me appreciate my car even more🙂
Great job. Very informative thank you.
Hey Ben, thank you for the nice and detailed explanation!
Of course!
Simply Superb !!!!
02.10 Awesome breakdown of the whole cabin air system. Greatly appreciate the clear visuals! Thanks you! And love your joke about the beamers lol
I am cheap ... I pulled mine out... vacuumed it, washed it with Tide, dried it and then re-installed it ... Good for another couple years 🤣
I just done the same aa well Hopefully it will work just fine
@@user-so6wx8mr8fyall nasty u will never get it fully clean and once wet the holes will be bigger thus ur breathing more stuff in now 😂
fantastic video so thorough thanks for sharing FCP
Very comprehensive and well done vid, thanks for posting it!
Glad you found it helpful!
Very useful - thank you.
This video is just in the "nick of time" as I just recently replaced my cabin air filter and also wondered how does does it work because on my old 99 Land Cruiser, it did not come with a cabin air filter but my 2017 Tundra did.
Changing the cabin air filter made a great difference in my truck to help improve the air filtration and resolved my issues with foggy windows.
Sounds like this pertained to you and your cars perfectly AWordFrom Mr. Jones ! Its such a simple thing that can make such a big difference, so often overlooked.
Great explanation Ben, thanks!
You're welcome, Larry!
Yes thank you! I went to a Honda dealership and told them some unpleasant smell is coming out of my ventilation system. (Fyi: I keep my 2019 Honda Si super clean inside and outside). Anyways, they told me to go to Canadian Tire to buy some product I spray into the vents. Needles to say the odour is still there now it's a double odour of spray and something unpleasant. I have faith that changing the cabin filter will make a complete difference. What baffles me is that a technician could not recommend such a simple fix. Unbelievable!!!!
Thanks for your video! :)
The cabin filter will absolutely make a difference if your vehicle has one, and a possible clean of the AC condenser (they tend to gather water, and possible mold)
Good stuff Ben!!!
Thanks, Lerem! Appreciate it!
Thank you I love cars!
Honestly didn’t think this would help with what I was looking for. But it did. With a cursory look I couldn’t find how air entered the cabin with pictures. But you showed it in video. I was convinced it was part of the air filter system for the motor. Had no idea it was such a simple intake. Thanks, them mice are in trouble now!
Glad we could be of some help 🐭
Enjoyed the video.
Which filters are better when compared from basic to advanced?
Is there any difference between premium and advanced?
Could you do a demonstration on all three?
Excelent video, Have a Jeep Grand Cherokee 2021 and with recirculation on smells a nd smoke come inside. Any tip why and how to fix it.
Absolutely great video and channel. How you don’t have a million subs is beyond me.
We appreciate that Martin Blaney! Maybe someday we'll get there!
Great video, would like to see more videos of this quality from FCP
Very well made and informative. Would like to ask. If you have the fan switched off does air still enter the intake under the windshield? If so where does it go?
Cool t-shirt man!!
Great overall explanation :)
Unfortunately some keep the same cabin air filter years...
Thanks Pedro you can get the shirt here ! info.fcpeuro.com/pedals-gray It is so often overlooked, but they can get really really nasty, that real gunked up video we had in here was from our co workers used volvo he had just purchased!
this is so sick!
The bacteria that builds up on your ac condenser is sick... glad you liked it Eroy we had a pretty solid editor on this one!
I know this has been here for a while - but a note about AC condensation. In a Porsche Cayenne, it's good to see AC condensation on the ground - if the condensation port gets clogged, then the line can get filled with water, and leak into the passenger compartment. Seeing a bit of water in the passenger footwell in the summer after running the AC is an alarm bell that the port has been clogged, and the condensation is leaking - what you see in the footwell may be only a tiny portion of what has soaked into the carpet. This is a big issue, as there is a wiring harness that can be damaged by the water. Checking and clearing the ports is a regular maintenance item that is often overlooked.
Is it possible to have increased gas mileage if the cabin air filter before was 99% clogged ? Would this make the thermostat work harder or the ac work harder? I changed mine and saw some improvements, but not sure if this was the reason.
Air / pollen filter what are the areas that need to be replaced and cleaned do I have a video for that for a MDX because I changed the engine filter and the cabin filter what else I’m missing??
Im in new zealand and im looking for under bonnet sensor and the air con sensor that fit to cabin air filter cover l/h side for a 2008 e60 525i msport. Or part numbers please .
My 1999 Lancer does not come with a cabin air filter, at least not in the place it usually is on most cars which is behind the glove box, is there any DIY in which I can stick a filter element somewhere in the ducts? The place I live is very dusty.
I always keep the recirculating button on when using my a/c so it doesn't get dirty...the only time that air is coming through the outside vent is when I use the defogger during the short winter time here in Los Angeles...
Thats one way to keep things clean!
At 2:17, are you sure that this area (the hood grille beneath the windshield) is High pressure area? I think is Low thus the air can be soaked inside because inside the engine bay is high pressure. Also another question: if we make that entrance point a little bit larger (to take more air) there would be a benefit for the blower fan or not?.
I got that black smoke that diesels shoot out stuck in my cabin air system. One month later I can still feel it in my throat, it’s horrible. Even after letting the vehicle idle with the heat on full blast . I just bought new cabin filters, and I plan to blast out the system with a air compressor with the filters out with the blower fan on high. Is there anything else you can recommend to clean out my air system?
The fan in your illustration is rotating in the wrong direction. The angle of the blades will only take air inside the blower and force it out in the direction of the air flow arrows if it's turning in a clockwise direction... Right?
Which air cabin filter do u recommend? I have a 2017 Equinox Premier. Love the video. I'm new to starting to do all the great things to my new to me Suv. Thanks in advance for your help
Any brand should be fine
Good
Thankyou
You’re welcome, Graeme 😊
JR. My man!
The man the myth the legend. Jade Roy Huntington.
Refer video 2:30, I’m wondering how rain or water wouldn’t enter the intake air ducts ? Especially when car is not moving and rain like pouring ?
Great video, thanks Ben!
Assuming the filter isn't dirty, how often do you need to replace an activated carbon filter?
Glad you enjoyed the video BigBlueChopper! We recommend changing out an activated carbon filter every 15,000 miles/ Once a Year , so actually more often than a normal particulate filter. Hope that helps!
@@fcpeuro Thanks for the info, that is what I have been doing, good to know it's the right thing to do.
Will this make the ac blow harder and colder when replacing a very dirty filter?
Hey Ben, what if you are using the recirculation air always? Do you still need activated charcoal filter to be installed or no longer needed?
Hi Jastine, we would still recommend having the highest quality filtration in your car no matter the normal use, so if there is charcoal filtered option it simply cannot hurt to have in there!
Is moisture retention when using active carbon cabin filters in a high humidity environment a valid concern ?
Can I get a special air filter for my simple 2015 Honda Odyssey Touring minivan? I know it’s not a Porsche or a Mercedes Benz; however, I’d still like to breathe in cleaner air.
I'm an expert on car air filters now
You get my thumbs up for taking jabs at BMW and Porsche. 4:16
Do cabin filters also help in avoiding Choking of cooling coil??
not directly, but when on recirc the already filtered air going back over the condensor is cleaner
Difficult to find anything for my 2014 E300 BlueTek made in Thailand vin WDD2120986L048749 does not accept in USA websites
So O have never received an ENGLISH owners manual and have to translate the Thai one! Also finding filters outside Thailand dealers is impossible
Will a dirty or clogged cabin air filter cause condensation inside the car?
Should not no. But could. Lol
@@montanamike7948 good precise answer lol
Is anyone having trouble ordering from their website? Been trying to order parts but it won't let me
did you ever get this resolved YB? Sorry for the delayed response
@@fcpeuro Actually no, I had to order my part from another website more expensive. But a friend told me to call you guys next time I have trouble ordering.
@@yb5735 Sorry to hear it Y B , dont ever hesitate to call or email service@fcpeuro.com we have a team on site here to help!
OK who is the loser who gave this a thumbs down?
Informative video. But my ac stinks and I did all possible ways to eliminate it.
I want that shirt 😂😂😂
Does a cabin air filter affect air conditioner performance?
If our filter is very clogged, it can undoubtedly hinder its performance of cooling down your cabin, as the air is having a hard time passing through the filter.
JR has the haer for it though.... just sayin.
So are we breathing in refrigerant?
No. Refrigerant is sealed within the A/C system and circulates changing from a liquid to gas as it moves from the evaporator to the condenser. If your evaporator is leaking, you may indeed breathe in some refrigerant but it has a distinct smell.
Does a dirty filter cause the AC to not blow as strong as it could?
It's the reverse. The more restriction your intake has the more your ac will struggle to get the volume of air that it needs to regulate the temperature. Replace your filters and take your car to a tech to see if your AC refrigerant is good to go.
I literally only replace it to keep my internals such as the blower motor, vents, evaporator etc free of dirt and dust. I could care less what I breath hahaha
Knew we should have named it "The air your car breaths" since most ppl care more about their car than themselves (ask me how I know..) ^.^
Evaporator s remove heat not cool the air. Technically
So AIr flow does go DOWN? Right 😂
Right!.
All horizontally mounted cabin air filters with the blower motor mounted below the filter will have downward air flow.
Must need microscope 🔬 because I don’t see MDX on here
SO THIS IS WHY THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER WANTS TO CHARGE ME 200 DOLLARS TO SLIDE A NEW FILTER UNDER THE DASH
The atmosphere is almost 80% Nitrogen, so I wouldn't exactly refer to it as a harmful gas. You've been reading too much WaPo.
You guys are so wrong to throw the BMW/Porsche under the bus for oil leaks! But hey you call it like it is!
We are only speaking from experience ourselves RCStuff! ^.^
4:47 no, thank you.
Shots fired at BMW and Porsche owners 🤣
ok, so let me get this straight. The manufacturer goes to great lengths to filter out pollutants from the outside air and then re-pollute the air with perfume? Um, yay?
Who does that?
@@njsongwriter It's been a while since I made this comment but, didn't he say one of the cars added 'scent' to the air?
Personally I have a convertible so, filters wouldn't work for me. I also walk an hour a day and I generally don't do that while wearing a filter So, I guess I've been breathing raw, unfiltered real world air both in a car and outside of a car for 63 years. Cough cough... :D (The last lines were supposed to be funny)
A dirty cabin filter will not have any effect on your AC.change it every 50000 klm.end of the bs.
This video could have been SO much shorter, and still got the point across.
Jeezuss....
Terry Hesticles True statement. But this video wasn’t for us car heads aka greasy knucks. It’s for people that know little about cars and the importance of replacing consumables.
@@ldotmurray basically said it. This was certainly a video made for the everyday person who may not be familiar with any of this stuff whatsoever, sorry if you found it long winded!
I will only drive Mercedes.
