You’re a great coach , even in an almost fight-paced sparring session you’re reminding him of what to do in situations he doesn’t look the most comfortable in
As a beginner I loved this vid. It’s so scary to spar with your coach. Awesome work to Ricardo for stepping up and letting the internet watch/judge. Killing it
@Ryan Lee ya because it's a good rule of thumb. Do u want me to be more specific and say how he needs to utilize his lead hook more often and when he throws hooks he needs to sit down on them more. Then for his movement he need to learn not to just move forward and back. He has to move side to side. Or when he slips punches he should counter off it. I gave a basic rule of hit first because that's an important thing to learn. Shane will help him perfect everything else. You can't throw every detail at a new fighter of what they are doing wrong. They will just get confused and have a harder time. So no shit I put a comment on how he should follow a fundamental rule and not try to coach him. That's not my job
Shane is such a wholesome teacher! I'd give so much to be able to train with him like this man. Great work, as always, keep it up. Much love from Bulgaria :)
As a boxing teacher i'm proud of your gentle words "If you fight like you did on 2nd and 3rd round, I'M HAPPY". It's not "you got it bro" or "you are gonna win". It is just the feeling of "you are doing great, you improved a lot and maybe you win, maybe you lose, but you did your best and as a teacher I'm happy with all your effort". Keep up the good vids bro , althought we don't have the same fighting style you helped me a lot to improve myself and my students!
I hope he wins, I have my first fight (smoker) coming up real soon so I feel as I’m in his shoes, lot of nervous/excited energy, but confident im gonna win, let’s go Ricardo let’s win together
Great sparring guys! It seems Ricardo got tired in the last two rounds, and I think it's because, when you fight a more experienced and skilled fighter, you feel overwhelmed and outpunched. Then you feel like you must make up for it by just throwing punches without much planning and strategy. I know this feeling very well. The important thing is to keep calm and relaxed and stick to the fundamentals- guard up, lots of head movement, don't get trapped against the ropes, etc. Obviously, he has a great coach on his side and several days to polish many small details before the fight. Overall, he sparred very well and will do fine in his debut. I wish him victory and all the best! Great video, Shane!
Ahead of a first amateur bout Ricardo looks in terrific shape. Two things for your consideration. Firstly how about placing a cross made up of two bits of tape in the centre of the training space so that Ricardo has a visual clue as to where he should position himself in the ring. Aim to constantly work to regain the centre of the ring and occupy the cross. Secondly Ricardo don’t forget to work hard in the days leading up to the bout on visualisation exercises. Take time to visualise how you will feel on the day and plan in your mind exactly what you will do in the hours and minutes leading up to the bell. If your opponent is known to you visualise what your game plan will be for the first minute or so of the first round and how you will adapt and overcome any obstacles that arise as the bout progresses. If you opponent is unknown to you, visualise repeatedly how you will overcome the challenges faced by a taller outside fighter, a come forward fighter, a counter puncher or a maniac who comes at you throwing wildly for example. Work these things out in your head before the bout and you will find that you will be better placed to deal with the situations as and if they arise. Best of luck from your Boxing comrades in London, England.
Great job for 10 months of work :) one of things I would look to work on is lateral movement while stressed. Ricardo looked to have issues claiming open space during the spar. Shifting left and right (not just pivoting) would help him with his angles as he seems to still be traveling a linear attack pattern forward and back. All in all great work and I hope the fight went great ;) Cheers!
Ooh dang, you don't see much training sessions with a teacher and their student these days. Nice sparring session! Would be nice to see more like this/keep up with his progress 😁🤘

I feel bad for you if that's how you feel. Pretty commonplace in the UK
My coaches sparred/rolled with me on the regular. I share the other commenter's opinion, if that's not what you see in gyms you go to, you're going to the wrong ones.
I can see the love in that fight Shane, good on you for being real. Ricardo you remind me to work on my jab, your low to high form was smooth and your feet land perfectly in time. Just like Shane said already you gotta break that rhythm and not trade blows but stay aggressive whenever you can
Ricardo is gonna get good quick with coaches like this. Good teaching, I can tell ur still maintaining control and composure, and definitely not fighting to the best of ur skills and ability, but still not going easy on him.
Really like to see that Shane is able to give a good look to his student while also coaching him on the fly. Thats what makes a good sparring partner. Love to see it.
From my experience with different a lot of gyms don't really belabour teaching they say oh your doing this wrong or that wrong but they don't continually press the issue. I remember my gym the coach could literally press one issue for months until it was ironed out.
Nice video, looking forward to his fight. Also, damn, Shane really means business when he is sparring hard, definitely wouldnt want to be on the other side, props to Ricardo for holding his own.
Başar Kahraman no it’s not too late, but you better get started. There’s killers who have been wrestling since they were 10 years old. Boxing sparring with a Judo World Championship t-shirt on, it doesn't get any cooler than that lol Great work by both teacher and student, you went hard and kept it clean. Kudos to Ricardo for keeping his composure at all times, even in the most difficult moments. I'm sure he'll do great! Best wishes to you all.
I remember that's how my Trainer got me ready for my first Bout, by sparring one of the decent amateurs going all out for 3, 3 minute rounds. They were the hardest rounds I have ever done. Prior sparring before that was just moving around thinking I was pretty good, I soon got a shock and it certainly got me ready for a serious Amateur bout.
For someone that's only been boxing for 10 months he has picked it up really well, I think something he might need to focus on (same mistake I made after about 12 months of boxing) was when you use energy to gain ground, with the double jab or the jab right hand, as I see he throws a lot, don't always retreat back. You used energy to gain ground and position, don't give it back to the opponent without them having to work for it, GGG would be a really good fighter to watch, once he gains that ground, you need to punch him out of there. Super interested in watching him as he progresses. Love from Aus!
Good Luck Ricardo, I know it could be a difficult going into your first fight 💯 This sparring puts Ricardo in the fight situation, he'll know be able to cope with the pressure in the day

Great work by both teacher and student, you went hard and kept it clean.
Congratulations, Ricardo!
Nice job. Keep your composure.
It's great watching the coaches cut loose a little, Ricardo did phenomenally but it's great just watching Shane work
For someone that's only been boxing for 10 months he has picked it up really well, I think something he might need to focus on (same mistake I made after about 12 months of boxing) was when you use energy to gain ground, with the double jab or the jab right hand, as I see he throws a lot, don't always retreat back. You used energy to gain ground and position, don't give it back to the opponent without them having to work for it, GGG would be a really good fighter to watch, once he gains that ground, you need to punch him out of there. Super interested in watching him as he progresses. Love from Aus!
Good Luck Ricardo, I know it could be a difficult going into your first fight 💯
This sparring puts Ricardo in the fight situation, he'll know be able to cope with the pressure in the day
