5 Ways to Stop Aggressive Opponents in MMA

- Today Coach Vince 'The Anomaly' shows 5 ways of how to fight an aggressive opponent:
1. Check Hook - dictate the distance by step back as you rip a lead hook
2. Step Off-Line - step off of the center line while throwing a rear hand
3. Front Kick - use your longest limb to stab them in the mid-section
4. Forward Pressure - step in and crash the range to enter the clinch
5. Spear Elbow - let them run into your up-elbow as the pressure forward

5 More Ways to Stop an Aggressive Opponent In MMA
1. Pull Counter @ mid range
2. Oblique Kick @ long range
3. Overhand Punch @ close range
4. Spinning Elbow @ close range
5. Flying Knee @ low level changes
@H-town281 A wen u spread ur legs it's harder for the to reach u without falling off balance u can see it happening to some of floyds opponents
oblique kick should be avoided as much as possible imo, unless it's a real life situation
How do you address clinching which is almost guaranteed to happen with a aggressive opponent?
What’s pull counter (sorry I’m new to this)
Thanks, I've been finding myself overwhelmed by an aggressive fighter even though I knew a whole lot of moves and tricks. This video is very helpful.
@Joe Blow you're basically talking about the oblique kick
Just keep your distance, if you lack training and reflex try dodging and covering your head as that's the only thing they know to hit, their brain doesnt know they can hit body shots. But for someone without training they will easily tire after bursting for many missed shots. I don't recommend parrying or counter punching if youre not fast enough or you'll be a victim of Mike Tyson's line which is "Everyone's got a plan until they get punched in the head". Be smart and play safe, cover your face and head, sweep side to side. When you feel they are tired after a couple of seconds, their punches will be weaker and slower, time to counter. Also mix your footwork, be unpredictable. Instead of keeping distance all the time you can actually surprise them by moving forward suddenly followed by a hook to the liver or uppercut. Always keep your head low when dodging. Tldr you keep distance and going side to side while covering your head and face then surprise them with forward movement with a hook to the body. Don't listen to this bullshit kicking them to the legs or pushing them with front kick. These are for experienced fighters
For opponents who keeps their distance but keeps on throwing jabs and straights, Just go lower mike tyson style while getting near and hit their body with a hook or an upper cut to their chin. Follow it up with the moves and combos you know to bring them down. Most people don't expect attack to the body and they don't know how to defend it
The first street fight I ever got in when I was 13 I took a guy out with a toe kick. I didn't know what the hell I was doing, I just saw him coming at me and he was a lot bigger than me so I instinctively kicked him in the stomach and my foot was pointed. Took the wind right out of him.
Old school Karate right there
should have finished with soccer kicks and punches to his temple and neck
Should’ve done the Daniel Larusso or Jayden Smith kick
@@baraaljamal9828bro thinks this is a movie😂
3:28 Shane looks so proud 😂
adensanya liked to control his opponents by stiff arming them while they went forward to attack if they get too close adensanya turns his stif arm into a thai clinch and throwing a knee to the head as he pulls it in.
darren till uses a great technique by fighting fire with fire he sometimes waits the opponent to rush forward and intercept them with an uppercut
Outside leg kick tends to slow a lumbering aggressive opponent as well. Great job guys
Definitely
Shane, do you think you could make more southpaw videos? There are basically no RUclipsrs that provide tips for southpaw and you could be the first!
nobody talks about this but uppercuts are sick against those who like to cover up and blitz forward, especially if ur taller and have a reach advantage, frame off their head with the left and stick an uppercut inside
Thank u doggo very helpful!
Oh no weebs are watching fighting videos... they are rising up and must be stopped.
Just joking btw :)
@@Quince477 just wait til you hear about Israel Adesanya
@@cherryperoxide wow just saw some highlights of him. The last stylebender huh, would've been great if he could fight Jon Jones lol, Adesanya's a beast
Love the tips bro! Really helping me out with practice!!
That was a great video. I often wondered about this, and now I know! Thank you!
i stop aggressive oppenents by turtling in a ball so they kick my back instead of my face👌🏽
@Carlos Danger boo fucking hoo , its just a name
Lmao
Eventually they get tired, then vengeance is yours!!!
@Carlos Danger Was that supposed to offend me like your whiny bitch ass
@Carlos Danger what's wrong with his name
A good front leg side kick to the stomach, works great for charging, aggressive opponents!
If they got some wrestling they just need to grab the leg and take you down though, happened to me before.
@@GoulouMalouku running into a good front leg side kick, is like running into a subway turnstile that's locked! Plus your leg is a lot longer than your opponent's arms. Very effective!
@@Twobarpsi I agree with you, but I am saying front kicks can be grabbed and used for takedowns so you have to be prepared for that.
@@GoulouMalouku yes!
@@GoulouMalouku its very effective in kickboxing, just have to time it very well
Great video this really helped me a lot sometimes I pick up the blitz late because the other guy is fast and explosive so I would get stuck
thx today i had to deal with a kid he blitzed me then literally just walked off to the bench next to him. even tho i didn't get hurt at all what pissed me off was i had literally almost turned my full back on him while shelling up and i hadn't got a single hit in. thx for the vid
My reflex is usually that check hook but it always deals serious damage to my opponent. My kung-fu master gets mad when I throw the check hook but not the front kick. Even if they react negatively towards both. I really want to tell them that if they're being too aggressive, I have to defend myself.
14 ways to stop aggresively opponent
1) teep kick
2) step back with jab
3)spinning back kick
4) spinning back fist
5) spinning hammerfist
6)switching stance while punching
7) step off 45 degree angle
8) pivoting left or right depending where the opponent charging you at
9) oblique kick very effective to stop aggressor from coming forward at you
10) blocking and countering at the same time because when you block your opponent punch you are at punching range plus by your opponent charging forward at you wild they leave themselve open for a counter
11)spinning elbow
12) flying knee
13) check hook
14) Uppercut while stepping back
Wonder if a switch stance with some straight wing chun punches would work. Someone should test that 😂
Fantastic channel!!! Wealth of great info!! Thank you gentlemen 🙏
Thank you very much guys for all the tips.Hope you have all the success in your work and and life.
I'm totally digging those back leg front kicks!
Every time you wear the hybrid gloves in a video I get exited, go to your site to buy and their unavailable 😕 please bring them back
Deviantsole 802 they said they’re bringing them back late November like 3 days ago dude.
How much do they cost?
Marcello Di Foggia like 60 pounds I think... very expensive 😞
Thank you, awesome video
Thank you so much! I'm in a gym where, despite being 180 cm tall, I'm the smallest guy and my training partners are just giants. I didn't know what to do except shell, move backwards and being their punching bag every time.
Great video mates. I'm from France and I've done my first English boxing 26 years ago in England. Then I've done a lot of other boxing, I love martial arts and self defense. Keep it up
I love to throw kicks to the knee. Especially that lead teep to the knee when they come in for that blitz. I also use a bit of karate and fight backwards
Very complete tutorial, very simple and effective.
great channel!
thank you so much for this video I will be sure to try this to help me big fan keep up the good work
Nice tips!
Great Stuff!!!

Very good coaching

Teeps, front kicks, side kicks, oblique kicks, spear elbow, and superman punch or elbow; now these are the moves that I practice well for aggressors or attackers blitzing in.
Crazy you mention Whittaker and Adesanya here and they rematch tomorrow! Can't wait!
Can you make a video about takedowns from clinch?
Good stuff. Should be MMA 101
Stay ready you ain't got 2 get ready 👊
Good Work I am new
To this channel and it is very helpful
Great to hear -- welcome, Hadi!
That’s good knowledge
Awesome content. I'm more of the patient, less reactive fighter, I feel like some people are just more fiery and fast than me so i'm trying to figure out how to counteract that. I always joke about my fightname being the sloth...
Always someone bigger n better
This helps a lot since I have a fight with Tripple G coming up
Next video:what are the advantages of a boxing stance and disadvantages, best liver shot combos, best tornado kick combos, how to defend against a double leg takedown, how to beat a distance mma fighter wid a good reach.
Boxing stance: good power, gonna eat leg kicks and takedowns
Best liver shot combos: the one that ends up landing on the liver
Tornado kicks: just....don't
Takedown defense: control the head, sprawl, underhooks
Beat distance fighter: hang from a bar until your arms stretch 3inches longer
@@ThatCasualZach Hahaha Actually pretty damn accurate. Well done.
@Zach theDiver lol nice thx bro
I was sparring and my opponent was super aggressive. I threw a jump spinning back kick and he fell on the floor
That requires too much energy, and if you execute it incorrectly or with poor timing, then you're basically screwed.
Tander101 It was taekwondo sparring and my parter was kinda inexperienced so it worked out
Clashing and tying up is bizarrely effective... At least whenever I work with people who like to blitz it just shuts it down
Very good, the first one was done by McG to Aldo
Thankyou Brother
Yes Shane,ur the best mma teacher on yt.Ur vids are so helpfull💯
JEVOX -_- I recommend Jeff Chan too, he is great too you can mix his technique with Shane
Tony P thx bro I'm gone check him out😁
2 thumbs up. Remember "bullies suck"
Your right I’m taking Mma classes and I started trying to learn how to get in closer to taller aggressive opponents, and counter , and I learned they don’t like getting hit at same time , I turned his ass around couple times , few kicks to back him up stepping to the side , but you gotta block and get out the way you right don’t go straight bk
Siiiick 👌🔥🔥🔥🔥
#2 is very useful against drunk frat bros
Cheers, interesting..
OOOHHH YEA
How to exploit surroundings in combat would be an interesting video
Love it 8D
Shayne! A video for us who keep hitting the opponents elbows whenever kicking?
I personally feel that this is the number one reason why I can't land any kicks, because I always hit an elbow.
Set-up your kicks with the Jab.
Even if the jab is Not landing, the next time u go for a Strike, Really try pretending to go for a jab again
Then go for a Leg Or Body Kick.
He is going to be blocking up top for the jabs u have Set-up And because ur Faking the jab to actually land the Kick.
Make sure you're moving around when setting up the jab.
Do not stay still.
Note: with that first choice, that check hook, I'm a shorter dude. So I'd think if I stepped back from someone blitzing, it'd most likely maintain the range the opponent wants. So I'd think instead of stepping back and throwing a lead hook I'd probably wanna step IN and throw an overhand. Also would there have to be any other considerations for a southpaw fighter in that instance?
I'm getting the fight tips before my opponent does. NOVEMBER 2ND!

@@gurjastoor9303 appreciate it homie
Alpha Dawg
How did it turn out?
@@mieshatatesfartbox7155 I Died the first round. Won in the second with an armbar.
Excellent video, just have a suggestion for the next time to make it seem more "realistic".
Do the whole movement, simulating an intense blitz as in a real fight, instead of just using jab and cross (which is barely a blitz) slowly. Blitz implies the opponent doing a lot of strikes while he moves forward.
BEST WAY - side step away from back hand and chain strikes to the head.
Can you do the same video but for stopping takedowns. A lot of wrestlers like to throw a couple of punches then immediately go for a takedown. Example Khabib vs RDA and Khabib vs Edson Barbosa.
Any tips on sparring with the spear elbow?
Push Kick and Check hook are always the best.
The techniques look effective enough from a short distance. I noticed for the CHECK HOOK and SPEAR ELBOW when you are hitting the opponent from either the right or left side with the hook or elbow, the lower right or left rib side is exposed to a possible hit. Like how do I keep that part protected for a possible knee or fist hit in that lower part side of the ribs? THANKS IN ADVANCE.
Brian Cherera
Lift your lead knee up. I love to use my knees to protect my body. If they throw a punch or roundhouse to your body and land it on your knee, they will be VERY hesitant to throw more body shots
i agree 6:50 beacuse one time i was kinda doing friendly sparring i decided to knee my friends stomach (not really i was going to stop when it was about to connect) and he decided to shoot a take down at the same time and boom! i accidently threw a knee to his forehead and knock him down. it took long time before he was able to stand up and go to check his head.
Hey Shane I got a question. But first of all, nice video as always; great content!
But, this is for mma/competition. I just got curious; what about in a street fight?
In street fights, it’s very common for people to just rush in 100% and throw shots continuously without rest. How do I deal with it and make a move?? Any general tips to look for? Any angles I should be trying to pivot or make? Any specific hooks or punch strings that I should be utilizing..??
All these combos go out the window in a real fight unless you actually train/spar and are used to getting hit. If you're really worried about protecting yourself learn to wrestle. If you're still in school, try out for the team. Striking is fun, but being able to throw people around and control them on the ground is much more valuable in a street fight, rather than gambling with striking.
K Vee Thank you for the reply bro :) will consider those options, now that you’ve mentioned it. Have a nice day!
Same stuff
one of my sparring partners is super aggressive with kicks and punches, any tips on countering aggressive kicks that turn into punches ?
Shane who do u have diaz or masvidal ? Should do a video on it
What is a good way to practice these solo?
The first fight I’ve been in, it was in 5th grade against the biggest guy in the class. When he went for the first punch, a straight, I dodged and ended up behind him. Then I wrapped around his neck and kicked out his knees. I felt cool, but I feel like I could’ve executed it better if I got time to prep. And I now realize that if I did that wrong, I could’ve injured one of us.
Shane give us links of vince matches please we want to see that
man i wish I knew this back in highschool. blitzing was allllllllllllllllllll the rage :(
What do you think if instead of moving to side, I move backwards and at the same time I move to the side?
I'm more karate oriented so I'm going to start MMA next time I get paid, because I wanna learn more about it, learn the rules, improve offense, sparring and tournaments.

The 24 dislikes are the people who are aggressive in fighting lol
Shane I've tried boxing alone following videos but I've never got into a boxing match and this evening I had a street fight( I was just defending myself) and I even forgot the guard so what's the solution
Sparring to get over the fear and apply the information.
How to be an agressive fighter?
Martín Lomachenko I prefer the term assertive. I recommend learning how to roll combos while moving forward and to improve effective ness improve reaction and tracking so you don’t necessarily need to reset when they move off the centre line. A lot of it is also psychological. Confidence and getting into an assertive mindset for dominating the fight is key.
