Ricardo's First Boxing Match | #1 Footwork Mistake
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 сен 2024
- We had our first organized #boxing match this past weekend at Sweet Science Gym in Hawthorne, CA. Albeit a smoker, we treated it like a real fight -- weight cut, sprints, and hard sparring to prepare for this event. Ricardo and I have been working together for only 11 months and we've had to clean up a some poor habits, including stepping too wide with his base.
In addition to just being meticulous with your #footwork, here is an exercise using a resistance band to enforce "microstepping" -- to reduce over-extending.

I'm floored by the fact that Ricardo heard his opponent's cornerman and *instantly* reverse engineered that info to his advantage. Well done primo!
yeah it was pre quiet and he knows Spanish soooo, good on him!
Is mexican?
Being multi lingual is a massive advantage. My students are Korean but also fluent in Chinese so when we play other schools at football we have a massive advantage just because we know exactly what they're going to do but they can't understand our players
@@user-rb2xl3xr4u That's pretty cool, actually. Interesting.
What did he say?
Izquierda abajo??? But he threw a right? To set it up right?
Whoever sets foot in the ring win or lose gets my respect in my opinion.
Unless they're dirty of course
@@user-ce6cl8wg3r Or cheaters, etc. Illegal and worse.
Facts
Not always true I see people cocky and brag after wards which is pretty dang annoying
Love this kind of post fight breakdown. More please.
Chris Wilkins Me too. They’re brilliant, aren’t they? 💥
@@RadioDadJokes you got that right!
Just imagine Shane being your cornerman.
Jose Castillo Always faithful always forward
I really liked his London street hat no lie
he will probs have the best corner advice in between rounds!
Round5fit can you send a link to his pro fight. Thanks
@@PretendingToCare his pro fight?
Well done, Ricardo. I got a fight in a couple of weeks and this is something I definitely need to consider.
Good luck, Bro.
Contrail Thank you💪🏾
Better knock him out my boy
Go for the body man
hope you win brother
You can tell when someone is born to do something and boxing is definitely what Ricardo has huge talent for.
Good luck in your career, man
Congratulations Ricardo, that was a beautifully placed cross
0:50 + 10 to boxing wisdom in this hat, am I right?xD
It's all in the 🧢
@@fighttips all I see is a square with an x through it..
@@s.oddity3640 it's a blue hat emoji
Jan Starostka Cus,demato wisdom hat
@@fighttips what is that hat again ?
Look at the progression of Shane's smile getting bigger as Ricardo described his thought process leading up to the knockdown, starting at 2:06.
Soon as Ricardo translates what he heard, Shane was grinning ear to ear, like a proud dad.
Very good demonstration of situational awareness and using his opponents tips against them.
For Ricardo's future fights, it'd be awesome if you guys can upload them. This was but a glimpse and a testament of Shane's training techniques coming to fruition.
I hope and wish nothing but the best for Ricardo and still happy to see Shane's channel still blowing up.
I like the baby crying right when got dropped. He said “mamma, mamma” 😂
Mean comment. You must be non-white. :)
@@Sinekyre14 what
@@Sinekyre14 how is this mean?
@@Sinekyre14 are you stupid or are you slow? Nobody dropped a baby, he was talking about when the baby cried out after the fighter got dropped
very cool!!! i saw the clips on instagram, well done Ricardo!
ok
THAT WAS A BEAUTIFUL COUNTER AT THE BEGINNING DANM
Shane is a great coach no doubt he's even got the hat
ikr, ev ery picture with a coach wearing this hat in the corner of a boxing match looks so fucking iconic.. for ages
beautiful ❤️
In my 13 years I have competed in 8 competitions, 7 at national level and 1 international, with 11 fights and I had a winning streak of 9-0 between 2011-2018. And now I’m going into the next national competition coming up on Dec 1st, not as a competitor but instead as a coach.
Also huge congratulations to Ricardo. Fights early in your career are always gonna be harder than if you’re seasoned because the more you fight the more you know what to expect.
Ryan O'Neill your 13?!?
Delirex I’m 20. I meant 13 years of martial arts.
@@ryanoneill6481 So your not 21 but you were a professional athlete doing mama instead of boxing standing up and fighting I mean hand to hand combat.
How to make an inspirational slogan
Shane : Violence is not cool, fighting is only for self defense, and bullies suck
Ricardo : give me tips
damn. that Chipotle paying him that Winning/Grant money
chipotle would be a sick sponsor!
I was thinking the same thing...
I think The pic in the thumbnail became Shane's one of the Favourite clicks.
Same
That was a clean pull counter. Congratulations, Ricardo & Thanks, Shane. Awesome content as always.
''In the game of inches, one must start thinking in barleycorns.'' Also, have always found it strange that coaches shout out tactics mid round for this reason :) Good job Ricardo, calm thinking.
I wonder: Couldn’t they have printed a smaller Chipotle logo?...
🤣👌
this is clean man. I love how he was listening to the other corner and adjusting. I love to do that in my fights!
Great fight guys, I'm 37 training for my first fight in 12 weeks. I'm completely new to boxing and watching this channel is helping me out so much!
Congrats Ricardo, beautiful shot ! (Conor's voice) And Shane is looking like he's spending more time lifting weights. Looking stronger.
I feel like that other guy kept moving too much, leaving himself too open, and
1:24
I don't even know that was about lol
Either way both fought well and damn Ricardo did a good counter at the end!
Scoring body shots during a clinch is very common in boxing.
Wasted movement wears you down. When you are tired you make mistakes
@@darkdrake13 those were sloppy
so basically Ricardo was way more effective with his energy by keeping his guard to block the body shots. I do those types of flurry body shots, but only when my opponent is too tired or i know i'm a lot faster.
@@darkdrake13 agreed
Thought Ricardo was the one who got slumped
*Hey Ricardo, when's the fight again'st Ippo Makunouchi*
Your fans have been waiting so long for it
somebody had to say it, I was looking for coment like this :D
It's coming 2054
Ippo is currently on a hiatus, it seems like the day Ippo gets to fight Ricardo is when it is Ricardo's last match, it's just what I think though, it's probably like 36 more chapters? maybe? Just a theory
Definitely the best tutorials on YT. Keep up the awesome work!
Ricardo has talent. That pull counter was real Mayweather style, great stuff!
That pull counter was awesome! Nicely done ricardo!!
Been watching fight tips since I was 8 keep it up🤘🏾
love the vids bro i wanna get into boxing or mma because of you. Once i get my grades up im joining a gym
Jace Craig Did you get your grades up?
Shane you've come a long way and Ricardo that was a sweet-ass pull counter!
Brilliant vid well done Ricardo that counter was spot on
Well done Ricardo you inspire me hard work for thanks Shane for the good quality videos it really helps mate
Kudos to Ricardo - boxing is really a game of microseconds...I wish him well on his journey. I remember you saying he was around 132 pounds, so super feather or lightweight in the pro's- Amateur weights vary widely depending on who is sanctioning the match if it's sanctioned at all.
The reason I ask is he looks quite tall, close to 5"10' or taller!
This is great! Great coaching and great translation of the drills practiced into a real boxing match, congrats to you both, keep up the good work!
I had seen a clip of Ricardo’s pull back counter earlier on a Instagram boxing page 😂 goodshit
Beautiful counter, Ricardo. Well done!
When I watched Shane last video's on learning how to be successful as a trainer, I believe Shane is going to create the next Mike Tyson, because Shane is humble like Tyson. I hope Shane finds a fighter from the inner city that is hungry and want to be the champ. A fight that will give back to society
More post fight breakdowns! Love these and great job Ricardo!!
Congrats Ricardo!!! Beautiful ,clean knockdown. Great coaching Shane, keep up the good work!
I love using pull counters especially against an opposite stance fighter
The best Coach and Student in the world ❤️❤️
That isn't the Ricardo I thought of tbh
Cineaso 53 milos?
Martinez from Ippo... 🙃
@@FhargaZ Ricardo Martinez would absolutely wreck them.
@@coolshadesguy6526 yeh he'd destroy both with his jab alone I feel cuz of da massive differences.
lmao
Good job Ricardo, your jab to the body looks just like mine.
And we got the same name how about that!
If you guys would fight, i think Ricardo would win .
@@dzrubayy3274 nah Ricardo has the advantage
RAGE Cage wtf bruh Ricardo is better he would shake his brain
@@Tidepod_Prince what do you mean. WTF? Ricardo would run circles around Ricardo he'll have Ricardo thinking he's fighting 2 people at once
@@diegohall8733 I don't know who'll win but I'll go with Ricardo.
Very impressive, if he happens to read my comment, the take away is you are awsome
He is lucky to have a coach like you !
Wallah I was dying in that intro 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That pull was beautiful man! Nice job!
Congratulations Ricardo, I saw your sprint training and sparring videos prior to your fight, well done!
Very instructional video Shane! A practical dissection always works! Thank you 😊
Awesome job Ricardo! Very skillful moves!
I am new to boxing...Ahaaa I learned a new thing from you " Just move back or forward to land upon just outside the full extension of opponent punch...so that you can strike back quick and hard.....Am I right
Good stuff Ricardo. Buddy dropped the kid in some headgear
this happens when you have a good teacher like Shane ^^ god work guys :D
I got a fight soon too I really like this kind of breakdown
Ricardo's counter was almost a replication of Manny Pacquiao vs Manuel Marquez IV. lol Good Job Ricardo!!
This is also called a half step because you don’t lose any ground but you still create distance by only stepping your back foot for that spring
That punsh! Good job Ricardo!🥊
Excellent work Ricardo! That pull counter was sweet!
Good video like the breakdown , well done to the student
I do taekwondo but there is a slight chance that i have my FIRST EVER MATCH of boxing , which is supported by the same coach in taekwondo.....
I am hyped , and cid taught me sth I didn’t even imagine was a problem....
Pls Do more vids on details we miss, they help !
Keep your hands up
Eduardo Moisa funny how simple this is but very hard to follow
Very impressive stuff, for both trainer and fighter.
I like Shane so much, he's so cool lol
Im thinking about enrolling in my local MMA gym. I got a background in boxing but I want to learn how to kick and some basic submissions.
Do it done boxing too submission great to learn done a mma match boxing worked in corner but got out done on kicks
One of the best decisions you’ll ever make
Jed Rayne do it bro, i do muay thai, soon im thinking of entering the jiu jitsu world
do it up man! leg kicks are super powerful and if you can set them up, head kicks are a clean knockout
The best way is to specialise in one thing before you generalise. You've done it the right way.
That rubber band trick looks straight out of Rocky 1. I said that before I reached the point in the video!
congrats ricardo that pull counter was a beaut. did anybody notice shane wearing the flat cap in the corner???
That pull counter was gorgeous
Well done
Vamos supermercado!! Congrats man!!
Well done Ricardo, keep listening to Shane! You looked composed like an artist
Congratulations Ricardo and Shane!! 💪💪💪
Clean punch 🤛, good reaction time, great job my friend 👍keep it up
beautiful punch.

Is the white shirt boy from mundo boxing .... ? Ali gym ?
I could definitely Shane in the future being the next Freddie Roach, training the best of the best! 👊
He kinda looks like Jorge Linares lol good shit!
Good work Ricardo, work that straight right counter left hook combo 🐬🐬🐬

Sparring is 1 of the best exercises you work the whole body and Brain Boxing is chess not checkers
Congratulations Ricardo and Sean !!
Watch this guy become the new ricardo martinez
Good work with the pull counter. Congrats on the w
That was amazing Ricardo, keep it up!
Hey Shane ! great fight, really enjoyed watching the video, could you please make more of these? Ps. Ricardo was awesome
Ricardo muy bien! reminded me of Juan Manuel Marquez
Hey shane i was watching a few old vids of you fighting and realized you used to use the philly shell alot but not anymore is there a reason for that or is it just not good for competion?
Great video, I have this exact problem
We need more foot work videos. Been boxing 2 years and foot position still sucks
Good job ricardo. Shane's a great teacher
Love the vids can u make more boxing vids
Knowledge gained
Now that I watched the fight a few times I see what you mean. The other fighter was kind of diving in and out while Ricardo was smaller with his steps and therefore Ricardo had his feet ready fastest by keeping them on the ground more and taking the micro steps. As this fight had gone on I think the other guy would have expended more energy diving in and out and slowed or Ricardo would have been able to time him and counter punch him more and more. Good lesson. Good job.
I've got a small fight nothing special just like a fight with a mate to be honest but its gonna be public and in a ring with 12 oz gloves and no heagaurds, I dont have too much experience but I'm about 5 inches taller then my opponent and I wondered if u had any tips or anything on how to recover from a hit to the head or ways to see it coming
You don't really need to recover from a head blow, unless it's a crazy, clean, and super hard one that you walked right into. Typically, head shots stun but don't debilitate, and you don't feel anything afterward except a bit pissed off, which you have to manage.
Great work from both of you!
I would love to see more boxing match's with Ricardo. he's a pretty good fighter!
1:44 Dude left his guard totally opened for the counter lol
That was great! Good read Ricardo! Izquierda para abajó 👇🏻 Shane can teach you techniques and you can teach him Spanish 🙃 super proud of you
Congrats Ricardo
