Ricardo's First Boxing Match | #1 Footwork Mistake

  • Опубликовано: 6 сен 2024
  • We had our first organized #boxing match this past weekend at Sweet Science Gym in Hawthorne, CA. Albeit a smoker, we treated it like a real fight -- weight cut, sprints, and hard sparring to prepare for this event. Ricardo and I have been working together for only 11 months and we've had to clean up a some poor habits, including stepping too wide with his base.
In addition to just being meticulous with your #footwork, here is an exercise using a resistance band to enforce "microstepping" -- to reduce over-extending.

Look at the progression of Shane's smile getting bigger as Ricardo described his thought process leading up to the knockdown, starting at 2:06.
Soon as Ricardo translates what he heard, Shane was grinning ear to ear, like a proud dad.
Very good demonstration of situational awareness and using his opponents tips against them.
For Ricardo's future fights, it'd be awesome if you guys can upload them. This was but a glimpse and a testament of Shane's training techniques coming to fruition.
I hope and wish nothing but the best for Ricardo and still happy to see Shane's channel still blowing up.

Now that I watched the fight a few times I see what you mean. The other fighter was kind of diving in and out while Ricardo was smaller with his steps and therefore Ricardo had his feet ready fastest by keeping them on the ground more and taking the micro steps. As this fight had gone on I think the other guy would have expended more energy diving in and out and slowed or Ricardo would have been able to time him and counter punch him more and more. Good lesson. Good job.

I've got a small fight nothing special just like a fight with a mate to be honest but its gonna be public and in a ring with 12 oz gloves and no heagaurds, I dont have too much experience but I'm about 5 inches taller then my opponent and I wondered if u had any tips or anything on how to recover from a hit to the head or ways to see it coming

You don't really need to recover from a head blow, unless it's a crazy, clean, and super hard one that you walked right into. Typically, head shots stun but don't debilitate, and you don't feel anything afterward except a bit pissed off, which you have to manage.
