Boxing Defense Drills: Keep Eyes Open & Defend Punches

- Опубликовано: 17 окт 2024
- I wanted to share some of the #boxing drills that my fighter Ricardo and I do to sharpen up his defense and reduce flinching. Seconds before his first boxing match, he asked to run through some anti-flinch drills to make sure his eyes stayed open during the fight. We do a lot of visualization of the actual fight, to re-create the physiological response from a high-stress scenario. Hope this video helps to improve your defensive skills!

Just had my first spar. I felt damn good on the bag, hitting the mitts, moving around the ring, and the moment a punch came towards my face, it was nothing but closed eyes and wild swings. Humbled big time. Moment I came home I found this video.
Excellent drill! This is one of the first things i work with my students when they first put the gear on. Keep it up my friend!
You know it's good if WB is doing it 😎👌
Wonderboy on the watch ! What a man !
Wonderboy, what is the secret of your power?
To train under Wonderboy, or Shane, would be a honor. Salute to you both!
this is how everyone should learn instead of just having students on the pads and heavy bag for 2 weeks and then into sparring with someone who doesnt go easy ur basically there to boost the confidence of the top fighters of the gym, so many bad coaches in the UK
First, gotta see this before the enemy
Got the FIGHTTIPS before your opponent did 😉
Imagine having shane as ur trainer, thatd be so sick 😋
Thanks buddy 🙏
but... you already have him... on youtube. talk with your friends and do the same training.
@@pichulick yh but it's never the same as training with someone with proper experience and stuff shane could also properly correct ur form and technique
ANLAS Gaming I swear
Sounds good
Anti-flinch 0:25
Pillar Defense 1:01
Block and counter 2:13
Isolation drills 2:51
Body Drills 3:51 & 4:22
Combo (Head and body) 4:50
Slip Straight Punches 5:36
Slip & Pull 6:00
Roll Under (Hooks) 6:18
Visualization and ‘Stress Sparring’ 7:00
Offense = Defense 8:19
Key take aways:
Make sure to train these drills focused and eyes open.
Though there is external stress, the goal is to learn how to maintain a calm mind while being in an uncomfortable situation.
Avoid making the student feel overwhelmed by controlling the intensity and explaining clear directions beforehand.
Great video, i will be doing this with my students.
What a good trainer. It's obvious you care for and protect your fighters and help them develop. Lots of boxing trainers are not so careful with their students and leave them in the dust to "toughen them up". It takes time to develop good defensive skills and confidence in those abilities. A fighter that doesn't have them developed shouldn't be fighting competitively until they do have them. Good work Shane.
I Remember My First Match,
My Eyes Were Nothing But Close
That's very common, man! I'm sure you've improved a lot since then 🔥
I had the opposite. My eyes were so open I had really dry eyes for the next 2 days and caught the edge of a velcro tab to it.
@@gagemcintyre3207 I didn't know that was possible did you at least win
Same dude I got fucked up hahaha
My eyes were open first match I was just very gun shy throwing 10 punches a round and focused on defence. Didn’t let my hands go at all, I was against a much taller longer opponent. Lucky He wasn’t a big puncher and I didn’t get hit clean as I caught most of the shots on the gloves. He let the tiger out the cage in the last 30 seconds and backed me up with volume. I will learn from it and come back stronger.
Keep eyes open. THIS FRAKKING HARD
Easier said than done... which is where these drills come into play!
been boxing 6 months now, u made me wanna try and i really love it right now, keep going u are a role model
Low key my favorite video you've ever made. Salute.
Shane is wearing the old-school paperboy cap. My man, you're officially a full fledged boxing coach
Doesn't matter what you know, as long as you look the part 😋
@@fighttips Shane l am going to be a pro, i am 15 and l want to be your boxer
It is an honor to be trained virtually by you 🔥
This is such a great video for people of all experience levels - but esp beginners who havent yet learned defense - to watch. This is indeed something vital, to keep your eyes open AND watching your opponent at ALL times esp when you are blocking and defending and throwing strikes, even when you get hit your eyes shouldnt leave the opponent.
I've never thought of "protecting my bubble" instead of just focusing on protecting my actual body, that makes so much more sense. awesome content
*I'm quite an expert at this*
Just drink LOTS of caffeine and don't go to sleep and it works!
_Just look at me!_
That's one way to do it! 😋
I don't think this will prove effective, but the stuff in the video makes a lot of sense!
hahahaha..noob try that with two bottles of energy drinks and 4 cups of coffe
Best channel on boxing so far for me, i am just two weeks new in training....and hope to watch more of your videos for more drills.....
Making it look so easy Shane. Really inspiring to people who want to learn the fight game. Respect to you.
I am still new to boxing, and I didn't really think about the pillar block, so now I'm going to try add that to my arsenal to get my defense better
Very similar to what I do with my guys to prep them up. Great work dude
I was always a fan of your work with Gohan, Mr. Piccolo 🙏
@@fighttips Always remember to Dodge
@@mrpiccolo6949 u killed me with the reply 😆
Man i've been following your work for years and I have to say that I am never disappointed. I have been coaching for quite some time, but I always remain a student to the game. I appreciate the refresher and a different outlook on defense! Thanks champ!
Shane! What an amazing guy! Much respect and love!
Perfect pre fight routine great job
I love that first drill, I've been boxing for 4 years and I've been competing a lot for the last year, and I still have that problem, I get tense when I'm in the pocket (inside) and I look away, its a really bad habit but I'll definitely use these drills, thanks shane
thanks man im not sure if you did this cause i asked or not but your the best youtuber ever
My first fight was just awesome i learned so many techniques from your videos that I used in the fight. This fight was like 6 or 7 months ago.
For real thanks for the help❤.
One of the best videos (and Shane has a lot) from him. The coach I have does this similar routine in partner drills with everyone for an hour. Great stuff Shane
I like the way that guy throws his shots.. good form and tight. Good job Shane, this guy is gonna be a stud
I remember the way his channel was back in 2011 when I was fresh out of highschool. He has really developed his channel and career.Hes even a better fighter. So proud of Shane Fazen.
this is such a great video for training. this has helped me so much with becoming a greater fighter.
Love watching MMA fighters teach boxing. Very entertaining. First time I had seen anti-flinch. Never seen it in a real boxing gym. Keep up the good comedy.
Watching this is going to help me out a lot.
This is gold for a trainer. Thanks bruh.
I've been at my gym for two years and have never done this stuff. I need to ask more
Beautiful demonstration 🏆
Honestly really enjoy this channel it's helping me and my friend learn boxing
Nice work Shane. I can do a whole Curriculum just off this. Hope you don’t mind 💪🏾
Good stuff, DJ -- that's why I shared it!
Shane this video/drills were incredible! Simple yes, but that's what you need. Super effective in practice , and video gave us plenty of stuff to work with. Much better than most defence videos I've seen, thanks for sharing your tricks
Anti-flinch Drill is like :
*in annoying 5th grader voice *
not touching can't get mad...
not touching can't get mad.....not touching can't get mad....
😂
Most helpful video on this channel! They all are, but this is on another level!
love your box content, FT. even though you're diverse with martial arts content you know the basics and importance of a good foundation of the sweet science.
As usual SPECTACULAR video and recommendations on improving oneself! Can’t wait to practice these cuz I’ve literally been looking for something like this all week!
Excellent sequence! Going to work this in with the new fighters I work with.
Cheers Shane, going to try these drills at the week me with my bro!
A lot of useful stuff in this video..thanx Shane!
This is an excellent drill
Goddamn. Learned more in this video than in 3 years of sparring!
My coach just didnt give af about us lol ;_;
He's a clever master. He's working, what a lot of masters, didn't working: the emotions! He's found to accept his student have fear, and ok! Let's working it! Not ashaming his student, but building his confidence.
Shane-sensei ( in japanese sensei means, "the one who comes before you) ,my deepest respects!
Vc detona!!!( You rock! In portuguese).
Greetings from Brasil!!!🥊👍🇧🇷🇺🇲
You are a great coach Shane.
Means a lot, Joe 🙏
This drill only works with light to mild contact. Its not just about the flinch before the punch it's also about how composed you are after the punch
5:53 not aiming at the head that's a no no he has to slip the hands. great drills tho
Another great video. Thank you Shane.
Amazing!! Thx man!
Finally a great video
Always giving solid advice and tips I learn something every time I watch one of your videos!
Nice! Isolation sparring is an invaluable tool in training!
Always useful advice and zero bullshit! Wish there was a trainer like shane around my area!
So. Good. Going to run through some.of this stuff with new kickboxers tomorrow. Thank you.
Hey Shane i was watching a few of your old vids and saw that you used to use the philly shell alot but dont seem to anymore is there a reason for that or is it just not good for competion.
Harry could be wrong but I box myself (almost for a year now) and in amateurs I’ve heard people aren’t too big on using it because it’s as a more complex experienced defence
It also dosent lend itself well to kickboxing or mma style fights.
Ppl call it the Philly she'll but it came from Michigan RUclips Mayweather Sr. Talking about where he learned that defense from I'm from Detroit and a 2x World Champion just had 2 put you up on a lil game👍🥊
It can be a good defence if you know how to use it properly i use it alot when my shoulder is fatigued from punching you can block an incoming punch with your shoulder which can set up a devistating right hand...
That style is not for everyone though
Excellent techniques. Thank you
This is the reason why less technical and veteran practitioners beat me at sparring if I’ve been a long time with no sparring at all. I flinch. I close my eyes and a react like a little girl. These drills can substitute intense sparring sessions in order not to lose the antiflinch attitude. Really nice!
Really enjoyed these drills thank you.
Best coach
Trying my best to be 🙏
😀
Ramsey Dewey is also really cool
I'm starting in september, great video to get me pumped up.

Love this drill Shane
I need a pair of those gloves Shane they are tough
It's funny how being a gentle coach brings out the best results in boxers.
Excellent tutorial
Great stuff. Have watched a bunch of your videos on the recommendation of a friend. Great instruction and execution. Could you please pan out though just a tad so we can see the feet too? Newer boxer, really trying to focus on my footwork to have better defense, counters, and power.
Unbelievable Shane i love watching your very interesting videos man! You have tremendous experience thank you for sharing your experience with the public! One cannot buy experience it takes years and years... I have been boxing since 5 years old and still learning via you! Thx Shane!
