- For the past two months, I have had the opportunity to tour and perform with these incredible musicians from the Simon & Garfunkel story. A huge thanks to all of you for learning and recording this tune with me, and piling into the back lounge to record it.
From left: Alec Hamilton (keys), Ben Cooley (Tenor, tambourine) Josh Turner (Electric Guitar), Taylor Bloom (Acoustic Guitar), Marc Encabo (Bass) and Bob Sale (Drums).
Thanks also to our instrument tech, Kacz, for doing some moving camera work.
Equipment:
Recorded live onto a Zoom H6. Lead vocal mic is an AT2050. Keyboard is a Yamaha CP4 into Mainstage. Acoustic is a D-28, Bass is a 70's Fender P into an Aguilar DI. Drums are Yamahas.
Mixed in Pro Tools. Cameras are a Rebel T6 and an Eos 200D.
This video is something of an homage to this one: • The Avett Brothers - W...
When I first saw that video, I never guessed I'd one day be able to do something similar.
I'm 65 yrs young, and I can't tell you how much it moves me to see these young people embracing my generations music. You guys are awesome!!!!!!
Ain't it the truth? I'm 60. I know what you mean. Youngsters enjoying this music warms my heart and gives me hope for future generations appreciating this great music.
Absolutely. I love it.
It's really a vindication from our generation, I'm 69...these young folks today I guess have no choice to embrace our music, cause there is nothing for them to embrace.
@@Tunz909 what songs did you write? Or did you own the record label? Or are you just a consumer? Whilst I support “our generation” to live out our lives with utter delusion please use what is left of your mind to really think about what we experienced. Yep it was great at the point of experience but it was pure post war consumerism. The purity of the art didn’t exist the way people believe and that’s fine. Talent exists throughout all generations and their output is a reflection of the limits of creativity that are exerted on them through things like house prices, cost of education, full employment, economic policies, foreign policy etc etc etc Vindication?? Of what? “We” are better then “them”? Don’t make me cringe. “We” are the single most self serving, arrogant, bunch of know it all, resource raping generation of all time. Happy Monday 👍🏾
@Nastro Adhesivo 100% you get the best of all that has been and all that is yet to exist. Find the moments and squeeze them dry
The bass player is absolutely an essential to this operation
Mesmerized by the bass. Good job!
lol thanks for your opinion
The bass is the best! 👍🙂
really amazes me at the start.. almost like he starts a completely different song.. Oh that silly Brian Wilson!!!
@@glorifiedng I feel the exact same way - completely unexpected/unpredictable note choice throughout the song. Breaks my brain in a pleasing fashion.
I lost my sister in 2015 to MS , our favorite song was Sloop John B , after she passed we were cleaning out her place and I was taking some of her things to her friends in Vancouver , I was alone in the car and a 60s Rock channel was playing , thinking of her I spoke out loud and asked her to play Sloop John B on the radio , as God is my witness seconds later it came on . Rest in Peace Carey .
Maybe quantum entanglement IS god. May you always hold her memory close and allow yourself to cry even years later. 😊
@@marlinweekley51 Thank you for those profound words , I still do both .
actually i had a few tears in my eyes
You were truly blessed.
You can tell by the way the lads are smiling at each other that they’re having a great time and that they all realize how much they’re all nailing it. Wicked cover.
So much talent at such a young age and all in one space at the same time. They certainly were having fun as you say by the way they smiled at each other. Wish I wouldn’t have wasted my youth!
Reminds me of the young beach boys. These guys have a similar drive and enthusiasm.
They sound great!
@@richardg646 Aye
I usually don't care for covers but this is great.😊
Seeing kids singing 60s songs really makes me happy. Great job.
Iztok Golob Me too
Its actually a 50's song from J cash. but before that, a song first written in 1917. Maybe even before your time.
@Huawei is a criminal organization. True.
I Think they’re in their 20s
@@colefarris6501 it was 1916 but close I didn't believe you until I looked it up and found it was a Bahamian folk song, so thank you for bringing that info otherwise I always though it was a beach boy song ...
I wonder if many people realize how insanely complicated this song is to pull off.
Not just the arrangement, but everything down to the most minute vocal has to be spot on.
Probably why this masterpiece is rarely covered. You guys freaking nailed it out of the park. Kudos👍
Yes we realize
'Very difficult group to cover! ''Nice job.
Yes. They realise.
Brian Wilson... the greatest songwriter of the 20th Century.
truly. pick a vocal and try to sing on harmony. It's not easy. They make it look easy, but it's not.
I'm 67 and been listening to the Beach Boys since I was 10. You fellas have blown my mind. To be this young and be THAT good is incredible. Keep up the good work. Great music for these quarantine days.
Maybe one day they will write a song. No one ever became famous covering superband's songs.....well, they could be known as Wedding singers or as a high school dance band.
@@erepsekahs Did you even look at this guys channel? I think he's well past the wedding singer and high school dance phase :D
erepsekahs he actually does write a lot of his own songs
@@emelial.6251 I would look forward to hearing some of those. Please link me when they are available.
Bob Vogel I’m going to be your age on Friday Bob and I totally agree with your comments. These young men have so much potential. Every credit to them.
I am 71 and have listened to the Beach Boys recordings for years. This is the best cover of Sloop John B that I have heard.
this is excellent but check out The Fendertones also
I'm 56. You're not wrong.
I am 72 and I totally agree !
Respect to these young and fine Gentlemen.Well done. I am 74, and think this is the best cover of this song I ever heard.
I would legitimately pay to see this line up tour playing Pet Sounds live.
Oh, yes!!!!

brilliant,love it!
I wouldn't. Free, yeah.
They sound amazing
Wow, Art Garfunkel looks great, glad to see he’s still making music

This is a song that will cheer you up no matter what. It's impossible not to be happy hearing this.
It's official. I've listened to every cover of "Sloop John B" on the internet - and this is the best one. Everyone can quit trying, there's no point. This is the best one.
This is one of the best that I have heard.
I agreed wholeheartedly @UtahDelaCruz until I found this one: ruclips.net/video/gx5PVjsRamk/видео.htmlsi=Faqa0GR1pKpb3vlF

I'll join the "Oldies" group at 73 years young. Also respect and love to these young musicians and their talent! I've been watching this young talented guitarist for a while when he post. Most folks our age know and love this song. Please....Keep it. A god given talent shouldn't be wasted!!
As a 180 year old man, I must say how appreciative I am of your oldies covers. I watch them with my great-great-great grandkids to show them what it was like when I was a young, 130 year-old whippersnapper

Brian Wilson is a flipping genius. Guys, please do even more BB's.
I agree... they should do an entire album of all bb
Music Club Ripspiqué Lier Belgium Brian arranged it though. Incredible arrangement performed in astonishing harmony.
@@musicclubripspiquelierbelg4620 Agreed! But Brian is a genius nevertheless. :)
Worth noting The Beach Boys version was arranged by Al Jardine who never gets enough credit
@@musicclubripspiquelierbelg4620 Correct, but this very clearly is a "cover of the Beach Boys version"... Sounds almost better in its youthful freshness..
The Beach Boys have rightfully taken their place amongst the greatest rock and roll bands of all time... i STILL think they're underrated. They were/are that GREAT ! Well done, fellas.
The bass player is stellar - that is not the easiest bass line to play - love all the harmonies, esp. the high harmony. Keep doing what you are doing!
Bass line is one of Carol Kaye's best, out of 10,000 recordings or so...and it's nice to know that this young lady is still with us and still playing/teaching!
You forgot Larry Knetchel too.@@Music--ng8cd
You can see how much fun they are having. You can also see when they know they've nailed it. To me, that's the best.
I play this whenever I need a boost. Sometimes you just need to see someone enjoying their craft and company. Thanks for making me smile....again.
I just love how these guys are true to the song. Not flashy, either. I’m a fan.
I never cease to be amazed at the talent and versatility of Josh Turner. He must be the most underrated talent of the day. And he finds such talented young people to perform with. If you need an uplift just find a Josh Turner vid. I discovered him when looking for Don't Think Twice Its Alright. His performance trumped Dylan's and make my eyes water.
67 and never heard a better rendition. Keep up the great work guy's.
I had to watch this like 15 times to watch each instrument and vocal and beat and harmony to really believe that these kids covered this song so beautifully.
I'm not that talented, but yep. They did it.
@@The2ndFirst yes they did it beautifully. And I’m not that talented either. I think I can hit the high pitches HOUIST UP THE JOHN B SAIL! I love his talent. Perfection.
It's amazing how Rock and Roll influences the younger generation. That song is older than everyone in the band.
Heaven has one Helluva Rock'n'roll band. God bless music! The ultimate universal language.
Except for the guy playing drums...
Somebody said “just a bunch of nerds”......Gosh I wish I was one of those nerds!!! That was just spectacular!!!
This is my favorite Beach Boys song and these guys were incredible.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess which guy was Garfunkel. One of the best things about Josh's channel is watching the smile on his face when it all comes together. Priceless. Keep it up! Enjoy these immensely.
👍🤣
its heartwarming to see young guys like you appreciating classic rock songs. those were truly the days for great music.
Sorry 45 times….. hard to believe that young people could cover this classic song so true, raw and authentically. The instrumental is great but the perfectly timed harmony kills it!! Absolutely perfect!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Wow. Not a weak link in the whole chain! Everyone performs great individually and as a band. Just great.
Josh is definitely one of the best musicians I have seen in RUclips so far. All his live covers are nearly flawless and sound like perfect studio recordings with no AutoTune or pitch correction software in sight, while he is a fantastic guitarist, singer and acapella arranger all at the same time. Not to mention his musical tastes are diverse as well, from Chopin and choral music to Hendrix, The Beatles and The Beach Boys - you just cannot get better than that!
I've been watching him for years and finally get to see him live in January - extremely excited
agree
Yeah major talent
He must also be one of the best listeners. There are many with raw talent, but he has taste, and sort of knows when he can bring a special magic to a cover. Like, this above is just magical.
doobeedoo2. I agree, he is a musical thinker and not just another talented musician.
Not Everyone can do a Beach Boys cover and do it justice like that. The perfectionism within their music makes it such a tough act to follow, not only their sound. Plus, the nostalgia they haul is unbeatable, but THAT, that reminded me of beach childhoods.
The guy in the hat and glasses has a fantastic voice for this song
I'm 71 now. It is one of my favorite Beach Boys songs. These young men do a tremendous job with it. Thank you!
I lived not far from the Wilsons and my brother knew Carl. As a small kid i got to go to their house twice in the early 60's. Will never forget. Great job guys.
