I really appreciate your advocacy for mtb in Florida. I'm a single Dad and my kids have been riding trails since they were 5. I found it to be a great way to build family bonds as we learned and grew in the sport together. They are almost 10 and 11 now and we still ride together! Shout out to all the riders that have encouraged my boys! We are Team Viper. Vipers out!
I would like to thank you for your video on extending your fox fork, after watching the video, I bought all the items u recommended, I dove right into it. I started with a 150 and I moved up to a 170. My goal was two things, get the pedal strikes down to a minimum, then get the bike to feel like I wasn’t riding over on top of the bars. This mod worked. The bike is a niner rip 9 rdo. I highly recommend the mod. Thanks
Have you tried putting the Message on your aggressive hardtail? With the way the fork works with increasing the trail, it sounds like it would be perfect for a hardtail.
I recently borrowed a friend's Trust fork equipped DV-9 for a morning. It climbed just fine, despite being just a hair heavier than a telescopic fork. On the descent back down I was really blown away at how well it tracked. On the fast, sketchy turns it just begged to be pushed harder and harder so I obliged. The front end stayed glued. I've been riding that 3 mile descent for 30 years and I PR'd it by almost a minute. On a borrowed bike. Proof is in the pudding I say.
Jeff. I ride a 2018 Transition Smuggler with a upgraded rear shock (DPS to now a DPX2 factory) while bumping the front Fox fork to 150mm. Stock is 120 /140. I love this set up and I took your video on DPX2 setup Into consideration the whole way.
My Trust Shout forks come in tomorrow. Not sure how thet will work out on my 2018 Focus jam2 plus pro ebike with a 150 fork and a 140 frame. Right now I'm running a 29er up front and it slacked it a bit and raised my bb height. Gonna go back to a 27.5 with the Shout and hope for the best lol. I know I will be over forked but what the heck! It's worth a try.😉
Good diagram and explaination on Shout Jeff! Luv your videos. I've demoed the shorter traveled fork and really like it, just too expensive. I also noticed on braking from hi speed that it has like an Anti-dive feel which in turn is more stable and can brake later than telescoping fork. :)
My brand new 2020 trek slash came in a few days ago. 150mm rear travel and 160mm fork on my 29er. It came with a lyric select plus, but I think I'll swap to a factory 36 and dhx2
I like about 150mm fork on my local trails in Charlotte, NC. It is more than I need for my local trails but helps when I ride western NC in the Pisgah area that is more rowdy. 150 seems to be a good middle ground for me, a bit more than needed on local trails but makes the bike more versatile on more DH oriented trails. As far as frame travel, I am running 140mm now, Rocky Mountain Instinct C70. I could probably go a bit less, say 130mm with a good progressive curve for the same reasons as the fork.
I was looking for a bike that would accept a 580 axle to crown fork and it is hard to find. Looking at a Yeti SB150, Evil Offering or the new Ibis Ripmo. What bike did you put your Trust on...the Ripmo? Would you reccomend it for the Ripmo? Thanks!
I wanted a playful bike but also wanted to start racing enduro so I bought a 2016 160/160 27,5 which is the perfect setup for me: 27,5 for playfulness and because it’s a 2016 bike it has a more conservative/nimble geometry but has the travel so I am not too disadvantaged but not too much travel that it’s too heavy or that I can’t feel the trail anymore... plus it has boost spacing.
27.5, 140 ml travel 66.5 head angle Happy camper but I also don't know what I am missing! I do think the reduction in front fork dive and improved BB clearance is a huge plus for the Trust
Hey JKW! I put a lot of value on your opinions and advice. I'd love to see a video on your thoughts on 27.5 vs 29. When and why you choose one over the other for a particular ride.
My home trails are Tokul, Tiger Mt, Raging River and Duthie all of which you've been on. Most often at Tiger or Raging I grab the HD4 with the stock 160/150. Tokul it's 50/50, sometimes I take the Evil FMB with 140/120 which really punches above it's weight and is a bit more playful than the HD4. I like the idea of the Trust forks but it's a hell of a $$ commitment for an experiment. Would need a demo day or two for convincing. :D
I live/ride the Whakawerawera forest in Rotorua - a lot of single track with some big roots and bomb sized holes also a bit of park, I hardly even use a shuttle so need a good pedaller! I was thinking of moving from my '19 Trek fuel 9.8 to a Ripmo with a trust fork. Love to know what you would sped? Cheers BrucieBecs
Hey Brucie, thanks for the note! I prefer the Ripmo AF over the Ripmo, that slacker head angle is nice. The bike parky stuff will be awesome with the Shout, as will the steeper/bombed out bits of trail, but the roots will be a little tougher than with a telescoping fork. I have only ridden south island so I can't give ya a perfect recommendation. That said, meet up with Mark from KRD in Christchurch, he's been importing Trust to NZ!
@@JeffKendallWeed Thanks mate I'll give him a holla when the times right. Its encouraging to hear you prefer the AF to the Ripmo that speaks volumes to me, Cheers
My bike has 150 front 140 rear seems to do it all at least for me but I tend to bash and plow over stuff so the shorter travel version wasn't for me it's a 2019 stumpjumper comp alloy .
Totally hear ya on that one Ken! Luckily they have quite a few demo centers open now. And a big sale for black Friday, but I do NOT mean to be pushy by mentioning that!
i can see and understand this fork on a Hardtail, but on a bike with rear suspension you are never just compressing the fork. So when you compress the front and rear together does the head tube angle still steepen as much to justify the the argument of the axle path? i ride a 19 Bronson 150 rear, 170 front. its over kill for what i need for my local trails , but it's my do all bike for flow and tech and bike parks. i am dropping the fork travel for winter to see how it handles that way especially since snow and such keeps trail speed down and fills in a lot of the tech bits.
@@JeffKendallWeed Fox or rockshox, there are enough people running it to get a ballpark of how to set it up. This will be an interesting experience. Thank you for the help.
Awesome! I may just need to give the Shout a try on my New Megatower.. seeing as it's a 160 160 29er the front is underwhelmed a bit for how well the rear linkage works.. this could be very interesting! I love the feel of big bikes & big travel for my local trails, my only concern is "plushness of the top" and on super small bump compliance.. Any way to adjust the travel also? If so, this fork could be a real winner if i wanted to run anywhere between 160 - 178(180ish) travel~
Everyone seems to say that this thing really works good. But will it get market penetration? I hear there's some guys at Evil that like them too, maybe get some footage with that group.
I'm hoping to ride with the Evil crew more next year! I dunno if Trust will take over the market, that's a HUGE goal, but I do think it's awesome what they've built thus far.
I just bought one of these and cant wait to try it. That being said its a bit of marketing to call it anything but a 160mm travel fork. It a 580 axle to crown putting it in 170mm 29er fork territory so it can be run on a 160-170-180 with very little geo change. But stop trying to call it a 160-178mm travel fork. The same as rear travel we quote the vertical travel not the entire axle path. Whats really going on is that a telescopic forks travel can easily be changed and only requires one chassis to cover 160-180. This fork would require a different chassis for each amount of travel. Therefore the reason they are marketing the way they are.
Congrats on getting a fork Kevin! I think it makes total sense for Trust to report the amount of contour travel, as telescopic forks do exactly the same. To find the vertical travel of a telescopic fork, simply multiply the travel amount by the sine of the head tube angle. For example, a 65 degree head angle bike with a 160 fork would be .91 times 160, which is 145mm. So by that logic, we need to start reporting the telescoping fork travel based on a bike's head angle. That's completely inconsistent, so by Trust reporting the contour travel along with the axle to crown height they can give buyers a great idea of what the fork will fit.
It's a cool concept, but just too expensive. Mountain biking is an expensive sport, so I try to go with cheaper durable products. I bought a good condition used lyrik for $500 on Pinkbike, it's easy to service and find parts / replace
It's hard to get by the look of the fork, not very eye catching. I need a bike that looks good as a package. Gives me more confidence. I need to try a Trust fork to change my mind. BTW Keep shredding!
Hahaha yeah fair enough Chad, thanks for sharing your opinion! FWIW the Trust forks look quite burly in real life. They really do look better in person than in pixels!

What’s your opinion about this fork on a “radical” hard tail build? As a winter project I’m considering putting together a bike with a chromag frame.
Would be sick. That’s my opinion I know I’m not Jeff but just what I think haha
I think that would be sick especially on a chromag Frame. Just my opinion.

150 back/160-170 front is pretty much what I prefer -- helps save some sketchy situations without hindering too much climbing ability.
