Never thought i would see a reaction to 16 Horsepower in all my life. My absolute favourite band of all time. Have been listening to them since i was like 13. If you want the more gothic dark stuff listen to songs like Low Estate, South Pennsylvania Waltz, Hutterite Mile
Same
I remember listening to 16 Horsepower a little bit in the 90s…..I started listening to them again literally 3 days ago so this is good coincidence! My partner is now a huge fan of this song. Edwards is a true musical genius, IMO.
Your everyday reaction?
NOO! And thus all the cooler! Thanx man!
Love this. I discovered this genre by accident and I'd like to share a story:
I'm a fan of Americana/Alt country. I lived in Pittsburgh, PA a little while and I was in a situation where I was forced to sell my Hyundai. The gentleman who answered my ad was named Slim: 6 foot 7, skinny, and a gold tooth barely showing through his shy smile. Very friendly, and he dug the 10 CD changer I had in the trunk (when that was a thing) and he correctly assumed I liked music. He told me his family lived in Pittsburgh but he was the singer in a band that played "Gothic Country" based in Colorado. I come later to find out that the new owner of my Hyundai is the mad genius/singer for the band "Slim Cessna's Auto Club" and they were kind of a big deal. Went to see him and his band a few times and I continue to be a fan of their blend of gospel/punk/country. If that sounds cool to you please check out their music, you will not be disappointed. Thanks for listening and keep up the great reactions, Harri.
P.S...his real name isn't Slim. I was with him when he signed the title to the car and he made me promise not to tell anyone his real name. Fifteen years later and I've still kept it a secret.
Haha that’s an awesome story. I love that band. If you dig gothic country check out my music.
Love gothic country specially this band check out woven hand the singer band
I love the banjo and the whole tone of the song. Thanks, Paul, for requesting this and further expanding my musical experience. Congratulations to Harri for 90k subscribers 🌺✌️
Never heard of...good music...thank you all !
Dead South is another great country goth band. Check out "In Hell I'll Be in Good Company."
You can listen to the same song from these guys, hear what sounds like six completely different songs! Wild the way they rearrange them..
New to me but addictive with the drumming and banjos and bass line at the start. Kept me interested.Gothic? Not sure. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Paul for a new song. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Cool, I don’t have any idea how I missed a whole genre for this long, but I’m looking forward to doing some digging. Strange, I couldn’t get Grace Slick singing White Rabbit out of my mind while listening to this song.
I've not heard this band before, but it's on my list to listen to. Fun, this is what I have learned to call Alternative Country! This was a good time; I was ready to be unimpressed but surprisingly fell in love with the sound. Good times, first thing in the morning!
My first reaction was Tennessee country punk.
The singing in this band reminds me of the group "Rusted Root," though they are not country. If you have explored Rusted Root, Harri, it may interest you.
Try "Haw" for a touch more Gothicicity from 16 Horsepower
That was some great stuff
Hi Harri
I'll comment later but here are the lyrics:
No man ever seen the face of his foe, oh no
He ain't made of flesh and bone
He's the one who sits up close beside you, girl and
When he's there, you are alone.
Every man is evil, yes, every man's a liar
Unashamed, with their wicked tongue singing in the black soul choir
Every man is evil, yes, every man's a liar
Unashamed, with their wicked tongue, the black soul choir
Oh (oh), the horizon's my way
Oh (oh), the horizon's my way.
No man ever seen the face of my Lord, no
Not since He left his skin
He's the one you keep cold on the outside, girl He's
At your door, let Him in.
I will forgive your wrongs, I am able
And for my own, I feel great shame
I will offer up a brick to the back of your head, boy
If I was Cain.
The black soul choir as you can see are the evildoers.
Did you notice the double bass too?
Deep bluegrass roots.
16 hp were a fabulous band.... check out this track one of my favs! ruclips.net/video/THlgU-8dMYg/видео.html
Gothic country? Never heard of it
I know 16 Horsepower as Gothic Americana a quote from Wikipedia "16 Horsepower are among the Denver-based bands credited for laying the foundation for what today has become known as "Gothic Americana". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/16_Horsepower. Davide Eugene Edwards was the songwriter. His well runs deep. After 16HP he started Wovenhand that is more droning and heavy. They even opened for Tool on tour.
