Some say they were a Christian band or rather the singer David Eugene Edwards was/is, they certainly used a lot of Biblical scripture in their songs and as Christian myself i do approve of this band and find nothing blasphemous about them, if you havent already check out "Brimstone Rock"

it's not an accordion, it's a bandoneon.... also that sound is often described as the "Denver" sound
