@@squiremuldoon5462 That's the kind of nonsense that makes "fans" hope that "their" band never makes it big because they think they'll lose their specialness for liking them. It's pathetic. Fame of a song doesn't change a damn thing. You really think "The Sound of Silence" is ruined because its famous? What fame does do is give the artist a shot at making a comfortable living, and being able to keep making music without wondering if the next album will be their last because they can't afford to keep losing money making albums when hardly anyone buys them anymore.
All while having a say in what the artists make. They sure as hell won't do that for someone who doesn't toe the line, or suggest something they don't like. And for 16HP that would certainly include doing away with all the religious content that makes David who he is.
And why's that? Sure, I love this song and band as well as Wovenhand. But why SHOULD it be more famous. Should people think like you or should this band be artificially pumped up through millions of dollars like the shit bands that are? Or do you just say that because you want the world to reflect your ego?
I saw them live in LA @ The Troubador in '96 but didn't know anything about them. They opened with "I Seen What I Saw" and they blew everyone in the audience away. 3 guys on stage with some crazy instruments, some even homemade by the band; they were completely mesmerizing and hypnotic. The entire audience was captivated and it felt like we were in some 1920's deep southern church revival tent. His voice still gives me goosebumps - that combined with powerful biblical references and superior musicianship made this one of the best shows I have ever seen live. Still a huge fan today!
Exact same experience for me I saw them in Louisville Kentucky at the Palace theater opening for Bob Weir's band rat dog I think it was 1998 but I don't really remember what year it was but it was the same exact thing they opened up and it was like what the hell is this this is badass. And I happen to have a friend who is the head of audio at the Palace theater and he made up sound board recording of the whole show and so I got to enjo🎉y it long after and I'm still listening to it these guys are awesome.
16 horsepower was one of the most misunderstood bands of the 90s. Definitely one of the most talented musicians of our time. I started using a violin bow on my guitar after seeing David do it in one of his songs.
I love metal, and if it wasn't for Devildriver, I would never have heard this wonderful piece of music. I always thought the Black Soul Choir from Devildriver was the coolest song ever, now I like this version better. 16HP all the way!
Lots of great bands like this that transcend those genre barriers. There's an Auto Club song called "Jesus is in My Body" that is like something Marilyn Manson wishes he could put out.
Man, I just spent some time knocking back the pints of Imperial Stout while cranking up The Gun Club, some live stuff from them when Patricia was playing bass.... I did a search on The Gun Club for tshirts and I came across 16 horsepower !! My life is changed forever. Much blessings and love..... Big George and Loki the dog xoxo
Music is a gift from God.. I like Johnny Cash- his cover of nin's Hurt gets me everytime I hear it. Tool, Metallica, Silversun Pickups, rank at the top of the list. 16horsepower and Wovenhand are my favorites- my son told me about them, what's it been 10 years ago now..somethin like that.. no matter, time as we know it is messed up.. I've been reading Job again, and I recognized several phrases sung by Mr Edwards- they literally popped off the pages 😛.. Isaiah and the Psalms are referred to alot too! This song hits the nail on the head.. what these 2 bands have given us is convicting and comforting.. I am very grateful.🕊️🤍
@@AlexandraVioletta - Likewise, although in spite of the religious imagery, I don't consider 16 Horsepower to be a "Christian" band. As with good gospel, Edwards doesn't pander, and the end result transcends the subject matter.
This is amazing. I'm so grateful for my wonderful sisters who helped me cultivate my music taste. I haven't listened this song for so long but 16HP music was always some sort of inner musical lighthouse for me through out all these years
One of my favorite bands , I love the simplicity at the core of this bands genius. One of the few Christian band i can say i love. The core principles of good and evil might elude some but this band let's you know right from wrong when it comes to doing this right . The other reason I like them is simple , they are the embodiment of old timey . Like rev. Glass eye and the wooden legs , real old timey like this is in it's own music genre OLD TIMEY 🙂👌
This was one of the most played songs on dutch radio Kink Fm, Holland's most alternative radiostation which got cut off the air after his number 1 dj Arjen Grolleman died. So sad and therefore unforgetable Erik Geurten
This song drive me. So true: we're all liars, we're all corrupted. We have to fight everyday to rise from dirts. Those which try to be superior and slay evil with purification are the worst of all.
Though you don't believe it, Yeshua loves you. Says something about your spirit and character that you can appreciate this music. Peace and blessings to you.
Four hooves, and four horses, forthcoming. My understanding grows by the percussion, and I become aware slowly, but surely. The tale of hammerings to a great band, entrust me with what was already my own. This song makes me think I am in a trench waiting for Russians to come to be shot, but while we wait my grandfather is telling me stories and he's not lying shot in the snow yet.
There is no reason why this man should not be the next Johnny Cash. One of my favorite songs by this group. It's uniquely American. It's something, like jazz, or blues, or really good country..we won't love it until it's too late..that is our tragedy as a country.
I personally love both versions. I'm a metalhead but also a guitarist and a musician so I can appreciate without bias the musicianship here. It's got a great melody to it and devildriver did a great job with it. Don't be surprised that metal musicians know about blues, classical and country acts, these genres all have their own influences on metal and their musicians.
What? Lol. I thought this song was about athesim and the creation of religion by man: "every man is evil, every man is a liar" wicked tounges and all that. I'll stick with that interpretation, or it'll ruin a great song.
This song should be much more famous than it is. Such a great song.
No, fame does nothing for great songs, it just ruins them.

I saw them in Mpls. Minnesota in 96 too. Everyone in the room was in a trance from their hypnotic music .
How tho? They were big around 2006,2007,2008,2009. Even when I doscovered them a few years ago I had already heard the songs back then somehow.

This dude is cool, he can occupy that rare little place where stuff like Johnny Cash, rockabilly and metal all meet.
There's a bit of an 80's goth element I think, a bit Sisters
Reminds me of the veils
This is so fkn good though I hate to compare them,
Just the voice sometimes
25 years ago this song changed my world!
Thanks for existing 16HP💜
20 years later this shit is badass
Now it's 25 years. I'm old.
16 horsepower is so perfectly different . Love it.

Gothic Country? Some of the best use of traditional American instrumentation I've heard.
Gothic Country -- PERFECT!

Check out The Builders and the Butchers too.

one of my favourite bands ever. had the honour of supporting them once.will never forget that night!
I've sung this as a lullaby for my son (5 now) and when he' was crying.
I would sing it to this day, if he want. But he doesn't. 😅
I don't even like country, but 16 Horsepower has to be one of my most favorite bands.
Same here. And I'm atheist 🤣👍🏻

highlight of my failure as a musician. supporting this band back in the 90's. They were great . we were crap. they are great.

My first song ever heard from 16hp. Still a fan 👍🏻
How on Earth did my younger fake atheist self not connect this to Jesus Christ?
Literal horrifying truth. Except in the Light of the Blood of the Cross.
I'm pretty sure its he rises my way. Nonetheless.
Also its i am Abel. Thus the cain and abel line.
Here's a punk and black metal fan chiming in. I'm with you, dude. These guys are great.
