    Good review.
    Good point to remember with the cheek pads on the scorpion, as a helmet wears in, some helmets that where once a tight fit may become loose, scorpions pump up cheeks stops that problem

    I just got this helmet a couple weeks ago. Not the carbon one, but the matte black R1 Air. And I absolutely LOVE it. Had the Scorpion EXO ST1400 Carbon Fiber helmet before that. This one is a hundred times better. The last one was good too, but I REALLY love this one. Much happier with it. Would highly recommend this helmet to anyone. Scorpion in general makes good stuff. But I think their helmets are their best product.

      How would you say the R1 compares to the Exo 1400? I'm debating purchasing one or the other. I ride a cafe racer, so I am usually in between a slightly upright position. More leaned than upright, but not as tucked in as on a sports bike
      Also, I cant find one in my city to try on first, at 56.3cm, would you recommend I round up and get a medium (57/58), or round down and get a small (55/56)? I don;t want to relay on the air pump to make it fit...
      Did you get any sun visors?

    • @lunar-firefly
      @lunar-firefly 3 года назад +3

      @@ZeAmine Its overall more comfortable. Lighter. Standard R1 is surprisingly lighter than the 1400 Carbon and its noticeable. Material feels better. Build quality feels better. If I had to choose between R1 and 1400 I'd hands down go with the R1. Rode around in that 1400 for around a year and this R1 for a couple months and its just such a huge improvement overall. It also more aerodynamic than the 1400. I have a Versys 650 that I ride, and I go between tucked when I'm really pushing it to speed up, or sitting mostly upright overall riding in town and on the highway. You get less drag with the R1 in general. And it's quieter.
      As far as size goes I'm a about where you are with 56cm and the small fits pretty well. This helmet will be snug. The cushioning is firm, but it will break in. I found I had some very minor hot spots at the tops of my cheekbones and along my jaw, but as I've worn it, those have gone away. I also have chubby cheeks though so you may not have any issues with that lol.
      It is well worth the investment IMO. Maybe you could order it through a dealership, or a gear shop so you could try it on at the store? If not, and those are your two top picks, I'd still recommend the R1.
      There is no sun visor for this helmet. Not like in the 1400. Which, admittedly, is my one complaint about it. It would have been nice having that extra level to block out sunlight. But the shape of it does allow for some sun blockage if you tilt your head down a little. It does come with a pinlock, and two visors that are pinlock ready which is heck'n cool! One of which is a dark shade. I'm guessing to make up for the lack of the dropdown visor. Hope that helps :)

    • @ZeAmine
      @ZeAmine 3 года назад +2

      @@lunar-firefly thanks so much for this. I found a deal through a German shop for an R1 Carbon Matt, where shipped will come just under $400, so I'm going ahead with it. As for the snug fit, my current helmet is an icon airflite, which is very snug and took time to even slightly break, so I'm used to that. I ride on a husqvarna 701 vitpilen, so the stand is constantly leaner forwarded, with occasional tucking, which makes shoulder checks a bit tricky with the airflite as it has a rather long jaw line that bounces against my shoulder when I turn. I'm getting the R1 now, and will later this year get the Bell bullitt for some rétro styling and more confort at slower speeds.
      For the visors, I meant just the regular visor & pin lock, not the internal sun visor. I'm usually not a huge fan, hardly use mine on my icon helmet, and I'd rather have a lighter helmet as the integrated visor adds weight. I was thinking of buying an Addl fire iridium visor for the R1 and wondered if you bought any and had thoughts on quality and visibility

    • @lunar-firefly
      @lunar-firefly 3 года назад +1

      @@ZeAmine Is the Airflite an intermediate oval head shape? I thought it was long oval, but could be mistaken. The R1 definitely is Intermediate oval. If it differs, you may find it doesn't quite fit your head right. I'd suggest wearing the helmet while in the shop if you can, for about half an hour to ensure there's no pressure spots due to the shape.
      I did buy one of the mirrored visors and they're what you'd expect. Pretty good quality. They can look smudgy if you handle them with bare hands since the oil from your fingers tends to show up more easily. But if you wipe them off after installing them and don't smear fingers all over them, it really isn't anything to deter using them. Actually just swapped mine to the R1 when I got rid of the 1400 because they both fit the same visors. Not familiar with the visor you mentioned. I only know of the mirrored ones that fit the R1 and ST1400. And I like them :)
      I've never had the helmet bounce off my shoulder when doing head checks. It's always been really easy to turn my head even at high speed. Those bikes are super cool btw! Very nice! And grats on finding one for a good deal! I hope it all works out for you :) Since you're not a fan of the drop down visor, I think you'll be even more happy with your decision.

    I dont have a Scorpion R1, but if you are having fog issues, then install the pin-lock asap! its not hard to install, just make sure you take your time lining it up, etc. They just flat out work! Scorpions "fog free" coating works ok, but the pin-lock is the real deal! I currently wear on the street an older Scorpion T1200 model. pump up cheek pads still work and back when brand new, I felt the pads deflate alil bit between 2-3 hours after pumping them up on my long highway rides up north!

    This is my favorite helmet in my collection. So happy you got your hands on one! Been riding with it for a year and it’s always the one I choose! The really important thing to remember about this helmet is that this is the exact helmet Fabio Quartararo wears in Moto GP which means it is FIM homologated which wipes the floor with DOT, Snell, and ECE safety ratings. They currently only have his size (size S) homologated but I’m sure all the other sizes would be homologated if other riders started wearing them on track. Scorpion won me over with this product and I will be a lifelong customer as a result! Keep up the great work!

    The pump padding has been used by a few manufacturers over the years. My old Shark helmet has it though many now appear to have dropped it. Many manufacturers can supply different padding sizing though here in the UK you normally have to order it. The ability to remove sections of the padding for a better fit is something that only a few manufacturers appear to offer though I wish more would.

    I just received my Scorpion R1 Air Halley edition and love it!
    Interestingly, I tried buying a Ruroc 3.0 Inferno last week but their website wouldn’t accept my ApplePay for some reason. After numerous tries, I gave up trying to buy the Ruroc and went shopping for another helmet amd came across the R1 air.
    So far I really like the R1 and based on your prior video and another YT’ber’s video, I’m glad Ruroc had trouble processing my payment as it appears I got a better helmet (my R1 was actually less expensive than the Ruroc).
    I agree with what you said in this video, and especially love the airbladder. Helps to know that the small size of the R1 was sent for FIM certification and is worn by moto gp rider Quantararo, further reinforcing the safety aspect.
    Good luck with your channel and great honest reviews. Keep it up. You have a new subscriber 👍🏼

Now you have a killer helmet and your channel blew up nicely. And much respect to Scorpion. They pretty much dared you to give the honest review and they built a tank of a helmet. Carbon, titanium, air pads, pin lock, yeah...they weren't messing around here.
    Anyway, congrats on the helmet and increased channel metrics. Cheers and look forward to more of your videos! :-)

      Hey, thanks! I get the sense that they were pretty confident in their helmet (rightly so) to risk another possible firestorm. I respect their attitude so much and it stands in stark contrast to the way some other manufacturers act.
      I think it’s also a good sign that manufacturers who aren’t as aggressive on social media are still engaging with customers meaningfully. It proves that you don’t need to engineer “exclusivity” or branded clubs to build a community of customers who will go out and do good things for your brand- and represent it positively, not as bullies.
      Appreciate your continued support!

    I got one as well, and it is really worth the price. This is my forth full face helmet, and I've been using for almost half a year now.
    I'm almost completely agree with you. It does everything great and decent, but for me it is still not the best one in any certain way.
    - It's not as comfy as Arai or Shoei.
    - The wind noise is not as quiet as Shark.
    - The weight is probably one of the lightest, but when it's on your head it does not feel as light as when you are holding it.
    - It provides decent amount of air, but (just like you've said) it is a bit too hot when you need to park up the bike.
    - I need to go up a size by using a normal size chart. (I'm 59cm around the head, but I need to get an XL to fit properly)
    - For my head shape, the Air Pump is just good. It provides tighter fit, but not so significant and does not help that much.
    However, I really dig the dark visor that comes with. It provides decent amount of sun protection during the sunny day and it is not too dark in the evening or at dawn. Oh, as a glasses wearer, this helmet is also a bless.
    If the Arai or Shoei gets 9/10, I would like to give this lid 7-8/10.

    I'm riding with the EXO-1400 Air. It's basically this helmet, but cheaper and with a different spoiler. It has an internal sun visor as well. It's like.... £300~ ish. I'm sure it's a bit cheaper in dollars too than the R1. But every much as good. So for people looking for the R1 level helmet, but a bit cheaper, the 1400 Air is the one to go for. I love my scorpion. The R1 is a possible next one for me.

    I've been riding in scorpion helmets for over 11 years. They can easily go toe to toe with Shoei & Arai. The Shoei fanboys always hate on it simply because it's a lower price and I honestly think they are just trying to justify their more expensive purchase. Scorpions are extremely comfortable, stylish, feature-rich, have fantastic airflow, and have an exceptional build quality at a very competitive price. What many people don't know is that Scorpion owns their own helmet factory. As such, they are able to cut out the middle-man and therefore make their helmets cheaper. This can't be said for most other brands. So if you just judge it by the price, you will be sadly mistaken if you pass up Scorpion based on that alone. It's a brand that has been many rider's choice in Moto GP and track day enthusiasts alike. Once you dig a little deeper into the company and bite the bullet and try one for yourself, you will be pleasantly suprised and will probably never go to another brand.

    I have the R1400 Air and my visors arent that flinchy... they dont move or feel too tin. Other helmets I have owned had that problem too were the visor is sort off vibrating when riding at cruise speeds or highway speeds.
    The R1400 is pretty loud actually, so maybe in the future you can do a comparison between the R1 and the R1400 :). The R1400 is very nice imo, very light, much comfort, and next to no drag at all. Shoulder checks with +-120mph are allright to do, at normal cruise speeds its just like doing a shoulder check at slow speeds. Padding is the same I think with the R1.
    By the way, great review!!! Just like the ruroc very detailed and honest!

    I own this helmet, ( matte black version ), and actually did a review myself on my channel. Our reviews are bit different. Let me say I really like this helmet but...I find the size runs small. I ordered my size based on the chart and unfortunately I should have gone up a size. Also, compared to the other helmets I've owned, this is the loudest helmet yet. One last thing. Neither of my visors seal properly. So either I always hear a whistle or have a stream of air blowing directly into my eye. I’m with you on pretty much everything you say except the sizing. I bought a medium in gloss black and probably should’ve gotten a small. But the inflatable cheek pads help with that a bit. I do find the helmet loud and image whistling if I leave the chin vent open. If I close it, it goes away. I did reach out to Scorpion and they said that it’s loud because of all the venting the helmet has. I disagree with that. I have a Biltwell Lanesplitter that has three large (always open) vents on the chin and my Lanesplitter is quieter than the EXO R1 Air. And maybe, if I got a smaller size it would be a tad quieter. I don’t know. I like the design of the helmet but for the price, I’ll probably go with a Shoei next. I will say, the helmet is ridiculously comfortable and I do think it’s a really good helmet. Would I buy again? I don’t know. But I do still wear it for long rides as it is way more comfortable than my lanesplitter. Also, I ride a Harley. Not sure if that makes a difference 🤷🏼‍♂️

    Also, I cant find one in my city to try on first, at 56.3cm, would you recommend I round up and get a medium (57/58), or round down and get a small (55/56)? I don;t want to relay on the air pump to make it fit...
    Did you get any sun visors?

    Ya I have a scorpion Rx 420. I bought one for my wife too.
    I love mine. My wife hated hers. It was too heavy and large for her.
    Also scorpion does Snell. Watch fortnine's video why that's a problem.
    My wife got a Shoei and loves it. I'm still rocking my scorpion. I love how it looks. I'm going to get a Shoei next or maybe a scorpion that is lighter weight and FIM. I heard they made an FIM one.
    Scorpions are the best for anti fog. I had so many fog problems with my HJC.

    Great review!
    I purchased this helmet after a very dissapointing experience with my atlas 3.0
    Im freaking loving it and feeling like its such a huge upgrade from the atlas, however i encourage anyone intrested in buying the exo r1 to get a size bigger than what the chart says. I was lucky to have mine fit well even though its really snug. But the air pump in this helmet helps anyone to get the perfect fit even though they order a size up.
    I meassure 57-58 cm so the chart says im a medium, but if i could go back i probably would order a size L.

    You said that the dark visor fits tight. So you could adjust that. There are screws to hold the mechanism, get em loos and push the mechanism slightly forward to the front of the helmet. Tighten down the screws and put the visor back on. At least at my Scorpion Exo 1200 it works that way.

    Hi, thank u for the review, also 4 the ruroc one! I'd like to ask u if u think that the silent characteristic you detected is manly thanks to the one-piece neck pads that block air, or instead is thanks the correct fit on your face specifically. Thank u!

    • @mototigress
      @mototigress  3 года назад +1

      Hi there! I do think the one piece neck roll has some influence on the reduction of wind noise as it isn’t seeping through all kinds of weird places like on some other helmets where this area is more open or has multiple pad seams.

      @@mototigress thank youu! I confirm then: i created something like this with velcro on my noisy nolan n87 and improved a lot. I'm curious now if will be more silent the scorpion exoR1 or the exo1400 (that have not that neck roll but technically is much more designed 4 touring than the R1)

    That's actually so funny! Today i bought a new 2021 Kawasaki Z900. A few weeks back i was looking for a helmet and was seriously considering buying a Ruroc helmet because i thought they looked bad ass. Also i was seeing a lot of "good" reviews of them not knowing most of these wer sponsored and paid reviews. The day i almost ordered it, i saw your video and didn't buy it and started seeing more and mote bad stuff about it. Then i went to a local motorcycle gear store, tried some helmets and evantually bought a matt black Scorpion Exo R1 Air and i absolutely love it! Both for the quality and the looks. I think it looks awesome and it fits very well. I was so close to pay almost the same amount of money for a $h*te helmet lol. Thanks for saving me the troubles! Very good review. I would definitly recommend this helmet to anybody!

      Haha. I also have a 2021 Z900 (black with red frame) and a Scorpion EXO-R1 Air Carbon helmet. Great combo. Even with my full SC Project titanium exhaust, the helmet isn’t too loud, even at high speed. I’ve also used the helmet on the track on my Daytona and it does get a bit noisy at 230km/h but still does the job.

    I’ve got the same model but in a different colour way (it’s called the EXO-R1 Air Carbon MG). My other main helmet is a Shoei X-Spirit 3 (also known as the X-Fourteen) and I would have to say the Scorpion is very close to the Shoei in terms of quality, even though it was several hundred dollars cheaper. I wouldn’t even consider a Ruroc. They are junk and only for non-serious riders who value looks over every other consideration.
