I need to stop looking at reviews of helmets. Everyone keeps saying different things and I don't know what to believe anymore. I was dead set on getting one of these, but now I hear that its a noisy helmet from your review. While another review I watched where they used all kinds of gadgets to check wind speed and sound levels etc. Say that the R1 has the best noise isolation of all the helmets they've tried. So which one is it. Is it loud or is it quiet? This is by no mean anything against your review, I enjoy looking at different reviews to get a good idea of something. But now I'm back to not knowing what to get XD

This helmet is loud, I promise. It’s quieter compared to RACE helmets, but compared to a Shoei? This. Helmet. Is. Not. Quiet.

Champion helmets said that this is a quiet helmet because they test it behind a screen of a bmw gs if you put this helmet and drive a gsxr 1000 like i did you will find it VERY NOISY i promise you that. Also this helmet does not have the quality of an arai or shoei.

Great review. R1 owner as well and agree on the wind noise. But, I do believe there are various factors going into said noise. I wear earplugs and also use a Cardo system. I find that while I am riding at highway speeds (75+ mph) in the early mornings with little to very light winds, the helmet is quiet. Even approaching triple digits it is quiet. I can hear music\directions\calls just fine. Sure, there is some noise but it isn't intrusive. However, on the return trip in the afternoon with heavier winds, I notice much more wind noise, again not irritatingly loud but enough that at times I have issues hearing music, calls, etc. Not a deal breaker for me. Could just be the shape of my head. Helmet nice and snug, no side-to-side movement and little to any up-down when pushing on the chin bar. Perhaps the gasket and face shield don't mate up very well in spots. The possibilities are endless.
Air flow and venting. I can't feel or hear the air entering the helmet from the top or chin vents at all. Maybe the skullcap prevents me from feeling it. I can say though that I have not been uncomfortably hot while wearing it. I will also attest that the only time that I feel air actually coming from the chin vents, even while closed, is when the temps are under 60* and I need to change my head position to keep the cold air out. Under 50* I wear a balaclava to keep the neck and noggin warm.
Overall, I am happy with the helmet and would purchase it again if a replacement was needed.

I think you should mention the type of bike you ride. If you're on a cafe, then obviously you're gonna eat wind and noise will come with that. But if it's super loud behind a wind screen it's a different story.

I have to confirm it is quite loud, riding a naked motorbike anything above 60Kph the wind noise is very clear. 1 hour of riding at 100Kph and my ears were ringing. I have been gifted this helmet but I am going to use earplugs to reduce wind noise

Sound is subjective as can depend on how the helmet fits your own neck (most noise gets in there even with air pump adjustment on cheaks) and how it interacts with outside elements such as your jacket and bike windscreen (or lack of). Both my fibreglass R1 Air and my R1 carbon are quieter than my Shoei RF-1400 on my sportbike with a touring screen and a smooth leather jacket on (although I get tiny thudder on top of the carbon from time to time, but very minor). However on my naked bike my Shoei is quieter and copes with summer mesh jacket noise better.. I dont like the shape of top vent on Shoei as air seems to get trapped in front of it and it shudders when closed and also noisy when open. On my Triger 1050 with split adjustable touring screen they all pretty much the same (quiet). Overall I prefer the Scorpions. I also use earplugs as general rule on any helmet if my ride is more than 15/20 min (which my rides generally are). That all being said my AGV K5S beats them both on noise and is also superlight.

Scorpion has had the inflatable cheekpads for years (I have a retired Exo 1000 sitting in the closet that's like 10+ years old with it), I doubt any other manufacturers will get into that for a while ,they haven't bothered yet. Second, ECE22.06 is fantastic and all you really need, but FIM is strictly better (but FIM helmets are usually turbo expensive).

@@JacobBaldry I've asked them the same question. They test on a BMW with a big windscreen. I think that makes all the difference. I'm quite sure some helmets are more noisy on bikes with a windscreen than on a naked, and vice versa.
