"So the shell's job is the same as a youth pastor's - prevent penetration."
Immediate thumbs up. Just outstanding.
I had to replay that to make sure I heard it right
I cracked at "you only have seen the half of it". Where does this guy get the texts?
Came here to say this exact thing. Instant pause and comment.
"immediate thumbs up" is what got the pastor into trouble in the 1st place
Almost shot water out of my nose on that one! LOL!!
"...Because a benevolent physicist always leaves the finicky work for engineers." - Too true. Damned physicists.
@@Kevin-vh9dl and Howard rolling his eyes at him.
As a physicist i always say calculations are for engineers, im happy when i arrive at the formula.
It doesn't stop there tho. Engineers then pass it down to technicians.

@@enlightenedidiot9552 it's the most high quality motorcycle content on RUclips, i also don't ride, i just love these videos
I absolutely love he doesn’t just say “this is the best helmet buy this one here’s my code”
But actually explains WHAT makes it a great helmet then let’s you deduct which one you want. Bravo my guy
It's the best part of the video, I don't live in Canada or have a bike/the money to buy eeal bike stuff so there's literally no way for them to make money on me but Ive learned a ton of transferable knowledge and had fun doing ut
Cause he for the store that sells all of these, so no matter what you buy, he wins. Therefore selling you a better helmet is actually better for business. Dead customers tend to be poor long term customers.

Ha! Try returning that to Brian Van!
I hope they do a review of damaged helmets by carrier!
So funny LoL
Conclusion: don't crash on a running angle grinder
Exactly, but into a large woodchipper is A-OK!
I got hit at almost 60mph and I walked away scratched but fine. The SHOEI helmet left my head and face unscathed after several rolls and bounces. It's a bit more expensive but SHOEI has my vote of confidence!
Same. but I've crashed and hit my head more times in an Arai. For me, Arai #1, Shoei#2. The other brands makes sense, but why not stay with that's been proven from personal experience?
I simply have a shoei head .. i put on a shoei and it fits like a glove ..
When he started to tape it up I was hoping he would put a "DOT Approved" sticker on it.
oddly enough the hjc he said he would choose is only DOT approved no other ratings
Helmet manufacturers: *hide how many EPS layers their helmet got*
Ryan: *cut the sh*t open for his viewers to see*
they dont hide them
Why you think they hide it????
Everyone knows its eps with an oudside fancy layer...
Its just a helmet
I would still arque the safest helmet is to not buy a Yamaha R1 as your first bike
Thanks for the smile
Pfft. Everyone knows a stretched out turbo Busa is the best beginner bike.
Heey! My first bike is a R1 I'm gonna go cry now :(
In most European countries beginners are limited to either cc or power for two years. In the UK it is 34hp and in Germany it 27hp.
A number of manufacturers sell bikes in two versions: Unrestricted for experienced riders and throttled back with a removable kit for beginners.
@@gustavmeyrink_2.0 Here in Quebec we have three classes of motorcycle license. Under 125cc, under 400cc and unrestricted. It's not based on age, but on what motorcycle you use for your practical exam. You can practice on a full-size motorcycle on a learner's permit but not at night.
Ryan ... love those "motorcycle oriented" physics "chalk talks" ...
it's great understanding the theory behind how (and why) our bikes react and respond the way they do under specific circumstances
Goddamnit, you drew that helmet profile perfectly on one try. I can't do that.

@@steve00alt70 I'm sure it was meant as a playful jab lol
Did I need to know what's in a helmet at this point in my life? No.
Did I watch and like?
Yes. Anything from you is a light house of luminosity in this age of cluttered white-noise.
shipping the helmet back to revzilla at the end was a stroke of genius.
Riding with a Shoei RF-SR helmet I bought a couple years ago. It is the best helmet I've owned. Very quiet and comfortable.
Mandatory disclaimer: people should check the details of the ECE rating they see on helmets. 22/05 and 22/06 are quite different and not many helmets are up to the 22/06 standard just yet!
Very valid point! ~RF9
The Arai Quantic, which was not "designed" to pass 22.06, is the only helmet as of yet to pass this new standard.

Hey Ryan, I thoroughly enjoyed hearing you on Lowside/Highside. A F9 podcast would be a blessing from the motorcycle gods

Im a car guy, no interest in bikes whatsoever... but this guys content is so good i cant help but watch
Bikes are fun mate 🇺🇲❤️💯
Thanks mate, because learning about the behavior and limits of motorcycle riders, makes you a better driver.
Well, you haven't ridden a bike. Yet.
Hell, I used to fly ultralight aircraft, and I’ve been self-grounded since 2003, and I’m 71 years old. Got my last ride on a 305 Scrambler in 1971. I’ll watch this guy all day till I die! N.E.OH Bob
I was a big car guy till the costs of feeding my passion gave me a wake-up call. Bikes are MUCH cheaper and way more fun IMO.
Every time a new Fortnine video comes out it's like a little Christmas

This is a most excellent video. I like how you cut it apart, explain each layer and rating standard. I have ridden 45 years, always buy top of the line helmets offering the best protection. I crashed in 1983 with a Bell Star helmet which save my life no doubt, crash once and you are a believer. After my crash I took a motorcycle safety course and learned how to ride, went on to become a motorcycle safety instructor for 15 years and now just enjoy my wind therapy.

I wish all helmets had pump up pads. I'm always right between two sizes of ever helmet I try.
100% Agreement
I'd imagine it could be used to disperse more impact force also; from its springiness and by shunting it around.
Ditto for me. I’m at 56 mm barely. The pump Scorpion is new to me. I’ll have to look at it. BTW, I’m very impressed with your wit and conclusions!

"I watch FortNine for the physics lessons"
I've been binge watching every video in this channel for the last few days. Very good content!
The Revzilla return is the best part of the video.
That moment he draw the helmet and the round head 😅...talent and gifted
You should have sent the box directly to Spurg and somehow arrange to have a camera record his reaction when he opens the box.
I use HJC's and i've gone through 2 of them due to wrecking myself in late 2019. And I managed to buy another just like it due to how well my first one faired and how well it protected my head from a side impact and I hit the ground bloody hard. Well worth the £300 or so for it and a pretty good upgrade from my Scorpion Exo Combat which only came with 2 types of tinted visors and not even a clear one for night time use or the snow flurry that I braved like an idiot. I still have that one and i'm going to keep it as a momento and it looks really good.

Amazing how far the technology has come. I remember my dad's Bell helmets in 1980. He spent $200 on each back then and told me you spend how much you think your head is worth.
Got a $5 head wear a $5 helmet!
Amazing video as always 👌
The ending is beautiful
Making an in & out in Montréal, obligatory stop at Five Guys, watching Ryan. Perfect Saturday.
Great video as always! Do you recommend the rf1400 despite the ECE vs. SNELL video?
you guys should bring back crash test and 2021 gear reviews
The ending was "La cerise sur le sundae". Totally hilarious! I was hoping for a more detailed review, but apparently this is a report on today’s technology. That said, you did a great and entertaining job, well done guys!
Another fantastic review, FortNine. Thanks.
Btw, I had to look up online today, and it looks like the battle among different types of air filters (paper vs. foam vs. K&N) is still raging. And I thought who but FortNine could settle that debate once and for all (perhaps for three different types of bikes - one being the ADV, of course). When should we expect it?
If you go by the engineers Honda just tells you to run them there some compress air every once in a a while and throw it back in. If it’s good enough for Honda good enough for me
10 extra pts for using one of the most dangerous tools in the box to cut into something made specifically to keep you safe. May not have been intentional but it made me smile. Top quality production. Keep em comin'.
I don't know if it's only in Oz but 4 ads during a 10 minutes clip is outrageous. I love your channel, always the best on RUclips. Thanks
Great vid! I love that a company is bringing FIM safety standards to more affordable prices
but then dont forget that a FIM helmet might safe you at a 200 km/h crash, but there is no
part in the regulation that would help you in you normal 50 - 100 km/h crash
if you design a helmet to jsut work at high speeds you get one that sucks at low speeds while
the contrary isnt as true
@@lexel90 They aren't just designed for high speeds tho? They are basically more stringent than both SNELL and ECE in both criteria for crash resistance, at all speeds.
@@lexel90 FIM is actually the most rounded standard, speed wise. If you plan on hitting the wall at 200km/h, Snell is by far the best bet. ~RF9
@@FortNine awww hoping id see my bell race star on here, almost got the shoei over my bell

Thanks for guiding me toward the better protection.
I really really like the Icon Airflite Peacekeeper , but if the Scorpion is the better brain pan,
