    Yes I prefer the Modular Helmets rather than the Open Faced or Full Faced Helmets & it gives You the 2 combined, I currently wear a HJC Modular Helmet & I ride a 2015 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic, there is one downside that I noticed in this video though & You briefly touched on it near the end, all the Helmets shown had the plastic or metal ratchet locking system on the straps, My HJC has the D-rings & I prefer that because not only does it do what it is designed for but also I can use that to lock it on the Bike, a lot of Bikes don't have a topbox that You can lock it away in, & Harleys don't even have Helmet locks on the Bike at all, but I lock My Helmet on the end of My front axel with a padlock, You can also lock them on the spokes or the front brake disc if Your Bike has one on the Righthand side of the front wheel, so with the Helmets in the video, how do You lock them away? or do You have to carry them with You whereever You go, that's a bit impractial if You go out to a Restaurant or a Movie theater or a Concert at night isn't it? so Yes You showed some very good Helmets & gave lots of good information about each one but I think that the Manufactures of these Helmets need to look at also incorporating the D-rings or O-rings onto the straps as well, even if They still want to keep the ratchet system in place as well so that the Helmets can be locked onto the Riders Bikes, at the moment the only way I can see that these Helmets can be locked onto the Bikes is to use a small cable like the ones that They use for locking Bicycles up with, wrapped through & around the chin part of the Helmet a couple of times & locked onto the Bike with a padlock or a combination lock, but it could only be done with a Helmet with the face covering part on it, You could'nt do it with an open faced Helmet if it only had the ratchet locking system, what do You think? have I got a point there? or am I missing something?

    As an Adventure Bike rider who does multi month long trips none of these helmets interest me for two reasons:
    First, Cardo is arguably a better system than Sena and I'm sure Sena pays the manufacturers to include their system in hopes of improving sales. I would eliminate any helmet with a Sena system integral to the build. Why spend top dollar on a helmet to get a second-rate coms system and no option of a choice for something better.
    Second, I love the Peak Visor on my modular helmet and these are all lacking. On a backroad adventure ride it is great to keep the sun off your face with a peak visor and these helmets all leave you with glare on the lens.
    I just completed an 8 month, 20,000 kilometer ride in South East Asia and both my Cardo system and Peak Visor were key features throughout my ride. Sadly few manufacturers make modular helmets with peak visors and I hope that the future brings us more models to chose from.

    The issue with the Nolan opening system is that having to press the two buttons simultaneously, means that sooner or later one of the buttons will stop functioning.Whilst my wife loves her Nolan lid, sh'e on her third button replacement... Nolan has been using that system on their flip-up helmets for a while now and it's time they came up with something simpler and more reliable.

    Great detailed review of that lot! Lots of price fluctuations recently, I bought the Schuberth C5 (gloss white) last August for £410 (€479), it's now £509 (€594). SC2 comms was £246 (€287) and has gone up a little to £250 or £260 in most places. The Shoei Neotec 3 has always been £589 (€687) with the SRL-3 comms £295 (€344), so a fair bit more than the C5 setup here in the UK even with the C5 price hike!

      To be honest I have 3 helmets but I always wear ear plugs anyway, which is a must, there is always wind noise to a greater or lesser degree. I cycle a lot as well and there is wind noise and that is at low speed, often leading me to think a car is behind me when there is not. If you don't want to finish up with Tinnitus use ear plugs and so long as you fit them properly, and many people don't, wind noise will not be a problem.

    • @malcolmemsley5909
      @malcolmemsley5909 11 месяцев назад

      I had a Scorpion Exotech flip back and it used to jam when riding with the clear visor down then pulling the chin bar back into full face position, leaving a slit to see through and having then to emergency stop. It went back to Exotech service centre twice but they never corrected it so I got my money back. You would think on an issue of safety alone they would just have binned it and replaced, but no. Since then I have found they are made in China. I have a Nolan N100 5 now and have no trust in the full swing back type, however maybe the Nolan is reliable in the review here. In reality I could rarely ride with the chin bar right back at much over 30MPH due to dust etc flying under the visor and into my eyes. Flip ups are great for re fuelling and drinking without removing the helmet, which is all I really need.

    Watch out !!! The hole or placeholder in the motorcycle helmet may not be deep enough for speakers. For example, when installing the SENA 30K in the HJC i 100 helmet. The loudspeaker is approx. 2 mm above the cut-out, the edge causes unpleasant pain on the auricles. The padding is a joke and is even more bulky. So how do I get the hole deeper? If I cut out the plastic at the cut-out and push the polystyrene deeper, I lose the possibility of gluing the speaker there. Almost nothing sticks to polystyrene crumbs. Pouring out might be possible, but with what? Styrofoam doesn't like chemicals!

    Thanks for the review. I'm in the market as my C5 (2 years old) is absolute rubbish for the price.
    The visor vent fell off when I rode (for the first time) with the flip up.
    The visor doesn't seat properly anymore and the wind just shoots straight in. Very loud whistling noise that goes through to the SC2 comms to the group.
    Horrible quality and very noisy and very disappointed with Schuberth. Now it's a paperweight and the Sena SC2 is also a paperweight as I can't use it with any other helmet.
    So, that leaves me with Shoei Note 3 and HJC RPHA 91 for a replacement. Which would you recommend? I prefer quiet, comfortable and light as possible.

    all good...but. Historically, most m/c helmets were good at impact protection, but lousy at wind noise protection at higher speeds. I now have bad tinnitus despite using foam ear buds. It's a crap disability caused by the excessive wind noise of helmets.You should hassle all m/c helmet providers to measure & reduce wind noise + give users the ability to know if the helmet can significantly reduce wind noise before they buy. Also when you give prices, include a separate price for visor replacement cost - they all get scratched and need replacing with use. Those are my 2 main gripes, the tinnitus being a major concern for all that ride m/cs at higher speeds. Keep up the good work.

    • @PhatSimey
      @PhatSimey 10 месяцев назад

      Agreed, my only gripe with earlier (and more recent) helmets is wind noise. Shortly after buying my Schuberth C5 last year, I had some ACS Custom moulded ear plugs made, not cheap but do the job very well, and should last a good 10 years. Used some universal plugs before (Ear Dial) which are fine if you don't catch them while donning your helmet, otherwise the right one in particular for me moved out of place, so you have to start again! The Ear Dial and ACS ones have filters in, so you can hear all frequencies, but 27dB attenuation which is ideal for music and comms.

    • @Simon-fm8yc
      @Simon-fm8yc 10 месяцев назад +1

      Most of the noise is caused by the bike and screen. The smaller the screen the better, unless you have a huge wind sail to sit behind.

    Could you do a video, or have you done a video on, makes and models that offer at least 3 shell sizes or more? I wear an XS/small helmet and efforts in finding helmets that don't make me look like a bobble head are always a slog. Some websites don't even offer the number of shell sizes that a particular helmet comes in.
    I currently have a Bell Broozer which comes in 3 sizes and I really enjoy it other than the noise. It's almost time for a new lid though and your expertise would be greatly appreciated.

    Strange how you have ignored X-Lite helmets before, they are made by Nolan and have had the features you liked in the Nolan for a few years. One thing I don't like is a lot of the helmets are designed for sena comms which are pretty poor compared to Cardo whose comms work so much better with bikes built in media systems

    • @XSR_RUGGER

    • @GripEngineering
      @GripEngineering 10 месяцев назад +1

      I wear glasses and I use the shade on my Nolan for direct sun (heading west in evening). It is so easy to deploy and retract vs dealing with a pair of prescription sunglasses or changing a visor.
      I wear a Medium, which is the largest size of the smallest shell, so that helps keep overall dimensions tidy.

    • @XSR_RUGGER
      @XSR_RUGGER 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@GripEngineering that makes sense. I don't wear glasses so I didn't really think of the hassle it could be. They definitely have their place in that regard and maybe for a ride that will extend into the evening. I wear a small so 3 or more shell sizes is a must for me otherwise I look like a bobble head and would love options that don't have the sun shade to lower the profile further (that don't cost 500-1k dollars.
