Yammie, I was watching your tier ranking of rising gear and noticed I did not see spidi ... What do you think of spidi in comparison to a brand like REV it. Also it would be interesting to see what riders in motogp wear. Thanks my 2 wheels potato friend
I can't stress how important it is to not buy a helmet off the net without trying it on. You'll find that some brands simply won't be a comfortable for you.
100% agree. Got an icon airflite in large and it was so small. Went to cycle gear and tried on an Arai regent x in large and bought it in the color I wanted online the next week. Attempted to put on the icon the other day and took it off instantly.
Absolutely the only way to know if it’s going to fit is you have to try it but if I go to a shop, I’ll always give them the first shot at my business. I don’t want to waste their time and resources only to shop online. If they can’t come close to an online price then I’ll shop online but if they’re close, they’ve got my money. I’ve got some great shops in my area.
I did it guys! I got myself a 2013 CBR250R, got some gear, registered the bike, insured it and serviced it, I've been practicing in parking lots and next week is my MSF course which is the only thing I'm missing to start riding.
How did you do that without a endorsement on your license? like getting it registered and insured? By the way I hope you get the MSF with a pass:) I'm doing mines soon hopefully I get it
@@seekndfind4395 well it's been a few months now and decided to upgrade to a Triumph Daytona 675 and the process was the same cause I baught it from a private seller. I went to the county clerk office where I paid for the taxes and documents and left the signed title from the seller. There I received the license plate, the yearly tag, registration and the title was sent through mail a few days later. Minutes later I xalled my insurance company and added the bike. It all took me like an hour.
@@seekndfind4395late to the convo but I just did the same thing! Got my title, plates, and insurance processed today on my bike and my msf course is in a couple days
I just want to applaud you Yammie. As a long time follower and seeing the trajectory your career has taken is something special. I recently finished a 13 month recovery from a bad accident I had last year and I started riding again. Knowing that you went through something similar and seeing you still going to the track and riding was always an inspiration. Keep up the good work and thank you for all the content.
But what if the specific helmet model I want is only available to buy overseas and I used them just to try similar helmets of the same brand? Bah, they'll be fine, I made it up to them by getting my yearly service done with them.
Great video, but the one thing no one ever talks about is aerodynamics. Not wind noise, but how well the air flows over the helmet. I had an HJC that was well made and comfortable to wear, but over 100 km/h it felt like it was trying to pull my head off! I replaced it with a Shoei RF-1400...it was just as comfortable and well built, but 3 times the price! However, the air flowed much smoother over it, and it was much more comfortable at highway speeds, so for me, on a naked bike with no windscreen, it was worth the extra cost. I'd love to see someone test helmets in a wind tunnel or on the highway to compare airflow...I'm curious to see if that's where most of the price difference goes.
What really separates a $300 helmet from the $1000 helmet are the materials used to manufacture the helmet. A carbon fiber helmet or composite helmet will cost much more than a fiberglass or high volume material helmet. ECE, Snell, etc., determine the safety of the helmet. You could wear a titanium helmet that was meteorite proof but the weakest link is the person themselves. The brain is still bouncing around and the neck/other structures can only take so much.
Something else to consider...color and gloss. Use an IR thermometer. Gloss black is the hottest color, around 20 degrees hotter than flat white at 85F in direct sun. Even gloss white is hotter than flat or matte/semi gloss. If you live in sun beaten country like I do (Nevada), avoid gloss black helmets. Avoid Gloss helmets entirely. The gloss coating actually traps heat. Another advantage of matte or flat colors is you can easily check for hairline cracks with rubbing alcohol. (test an inconspicuous spot first to make sure it doesn't remove paint/graphics). Get some cheese cloth or fold up a paper towel and coat one side of your Non-gloss helmet outer shell with alcohol to wet look. Pay close attention as it dries. The alcohol will fill cracks and they will evaporate slower, allowing you to see them well right when the surface is just about completely evaporated. You're welcome.
IR thermometers generally don't perform well with gloss surfaces. Gloss paint will feel cooler inside the helmet. The thermometer is picking up a lot of reflected IR from the sun rather than originating from the helmet.
In addition to safety squads point, also they are pretty well insulated so outside color probably doesn't make as much of a difference to inside temperature as you may think. Especially with a 100 degree head taking up all the room. Whatever air is coming in vs your already hot head is really all that matters im guessing.
@@CaptainScorpio24 White is the best choice, for heat concerns and viability to others. But a glossy finish traps heat more than flat or satin. Glossy finish helmet is ALWAYS going to be hotter than it's flat or satin counterpart regardless of color.
Wish the video stressed the difference between the newest ECE 22.06 standard vs 22.05. Most helmets in the states are not .06 yet including the newest Shoei RF-1400. The European variant, the NXR2, is 22.06 certified (and is indeed manufactured differently, I emailed Shoei reps directly for verification) but doesn't have DOT compliance for State use. Which is why I ride dirty every day. Do what is safest, not necessarily what is legal.
Two things. You finally convinced me to ditch my jet helmet, which I like a lot and am very fond of and that has the intercom in it. But I also like my face. It might not be the prettiest, but it's the only one I got. And on dropping helmets, I hear a lot of people saying "If you have your helmet in your hand and you drop it on the ground form knee height, it is trashed and you have to throw it away". I always knew that was bollocks. Thanks for the great content!
just found your videos, save me so mistakes already. thanks. I finally dragged my 1984 honda shadow vt700c from the barn and started redoing the whole thing. all new electronics, LED lights, fuse box and from scratch wiring harness. God bless Clymer.
Remember a Large in one brand is different to a Large in another brand, few weeks ago in a shop I found some Medium helmets in one brand, all the way to Extra Large in the brand I ended up with, so don't try one helmet at the shop and buy another online, try on the one you want to buy and then buy that exact one online or in store.
Solid advice. Typically new helmets display their fit size in centimeters somewhere, usually on the same sticker labeling it as Medium/Large/etc. That number is absolutely way more important to take in to consideration than the letters above or below it. If you swing by a retailer to try helmets on and you come across one that's a good fit from one brand, try on the helmets from the other brands within a 1 or 2 centimeter tolerance and make a note on your phone about the comfortable yet secure size disparities between them. You will get a much more accurate idea of what you need to look for.
I have 3 Arai helmets. A 3k car racing helmet, a road helmet, and an adventure helmet. They are more expensive than most but you can feel the quality immediately when wearing. Most of all Arai is the only shape that fits my Melon.
When I was 18 I had 2 different bikes, a ninja 636, and a gsx-r 600. Didn’t care much, didn’t wear a helmet, I actually got a ticket the 2nd night I owned the ninja. Sold both pretty quick, here I am 12 years later and I’ve went and bought a gsx-r 600 identical to my first one. A Telefonica, I borrowed a helmet to get it home, but this video tonight has helped me a lot and I’ll definitely be ordered something from you guys as soon as I can get my measurements I need. A big thank you, this is very helpful to a noob like me
Not much point owning a Superbike without a fulface. I took a June bug in the chest at 130mph and it looked like I was hit with a paintball. Imagine that hitting a pair of glasses
im a 27 year old with a 250cc Suzuki Cruiser and i rock a modular helmet and i can say ill probably never use anything other than a modular helmet. best decision i made when shopping for a helmet. Being able to drink or take a quick nibble of a snack without removing the whole helmet is a fantastic feature. plus i can be more personable when going into the convenience store quickly and its easier to speak to others in those situations as well. 10/10 would recommend a modular helmet.
Good high level intro. I was hoping you guys would talk about brands and fit. Some are good for oval, some are for round. Impossible to buy online without trying on, in my opinion.
My first helmet and the only brand I'll ever wear is AGV. I have the K-1. The different vents that get full face airflow feels great. The padding is sturdy but a little more like firm memory foam which not only makes for a sculpting fit but easier to put on and off. Very lightweight $250. Side note, the ECE is on a tag sewn into the strap. E3. E represents ece and the number means the particular country of origin.
@@S1kTh66 I loved my HJC and will be keeping it for the street. The XD4 i bought is for dual sport, and around town on hot days, cant beat that airflow.
One thing they missed. Most helmets use a simple brow measurement for sizing. I’m a large in Arai XD-4 but I must have chipmunk cheeks. When I order a new Arai, I have to order thinner cheek pads. When I buy a Corsair X, I’m a large and the pads are perfect. If the cranial shell and padding is correct around your skull but your cheek pads are too thick or even too thin, usually with quality brands, you can swap the pads for a better fit.
10:30 - translation: “Please please please treat your neighborhood helmet shop as an unpaid physical display space for an online vendor.” I say be sure to buy something good while you’re there to support that shop’s continued existence for you and your neighbors.
I'm shopping around for equipment for my first bike, I even have a spreadsheet with things like certifications, price, sellers, colours ect. Until this video I wasn't noting down certifications, so huge thank you for this video!
Helmets , most important piece of riding kit ! Have owned Nolan , Ariai , Shark , Shoei & Bell , all good but proper fitment & meeting reasonable standards should be first and foremost. Great video.
Fortnine's video on helmet safety and certifications does a much better job of explaining ECE vs Snell vs DOT vs etc. Stick to list videos Yammie/Spite
I had an HJC IS-17 these past 4 years and it's been a great helmet. However I have recently been shopping for a new lid and tried many different ones. They were nice, but then I tried some Arai helmets and OMG......I never want any other lid on my head ever again. My head shape just so perfectly suits the Arai shape. Bought a brand new Arai Quantic from overseas (Arai's first ECE22.06 helmet, nice). I have been spoiled for helmets going on forward from now on.
For any noobs out there looking for a beginner helmet, I'd highly recommend the R420. For just under 160$, you get some decent ventillation, good comfort, and a Snell certification!
Nobody has stock anymore in part because people were trying it in the store and buying it online. Inventory and the space to keep it costs money, which doesn't get recouped when you're acting like a free dressing room for an online retailer that gets to maximize their profits while minimizing their costs of display and employees. Want the convenience of being able to try it on for fit and size? Then be willing to pay for that convenience! The impact of that kind of attitude is less choice for us consumers and a less vibrant local marketplace.
I'm so happy I went to a local giant motorsports store and tried them on, because NONE fit me at all. I had to find the only model that had that went 3xl or something, I guess I have a large head, giggity. It would have been super frustrating getting and returning helmets bought online over and over. It's like buying clothes but not knowing your sizing at all, good fing luck.
@@MrTeddy12397 No, you should reward the retailer that has the stock you can try on by buying from them, if they have what you need, instead of buying it somewhere else. That convenience of trying things on costs money to deliver.
This is an INTERVENTION we yammies demand a new classical song. We have had enough of the same crap playing over and over after binge watching your videos!!!!!
I used to testy helmets to various standards back in the 80s. In my experience, the heavier helmets tended to fair better just because the lighter helmets were trading comfort for strength. My two cents.
Love that Haga replica. My old racing partner loved his so much I was behind him on practice session, and he tucked the front and actually covered his head with his hands and arms just to make sure the helmet didn’t get dinged!😂
As a new rider I got myself an agv k3 and I love it I think the 200-300 dollar range is the optimal range for good quality but still not breaking the bank
Nolan n87 is way much better helmet than the k3 I have tried them both but went with the ultra carbon xlite because it's much lighter @1250 grams, I have some neck problems, lost some features with it no inner sun visor and doesn't allow for speakers but that's what you pay for a light carbon helmet, it's not too expensive 400_500$
THANK YOU!! I made a similar comment a few minutes ago & I too was wearing headphones when the video started...that high-pitched violin made me switch the video off altogether...glad that I'm not the Lone Ranger in this respect!
i have a Shark Race R Pro Blank Black and i can't complain about putting my glasses on, maybe it differs to the type of glasses, maybe yours are a more bulky type of glasses
@@TheKitt12 I'm very picky with how my glasses fit and my frames are somewhat flimsy so they don't push the padding out of the way. I wear an HJC is max 2 and I don't need to remove my glasses to put my helmet on.
@@SimonBrisbane I used Arai for racing and had no problems, I also used heavier frames when I raced. My brother also has had problems with full face and his glasses. He is the one that turned me onto modular helmets because they were less of a hassle with glasses.
I'm taking the MSF course soon.. I hope I pass it, I been looking forward to it 😀 and watching youtube videos about it.. Now I bought my first helmet and some gloves just need to pass it to get the endorsement 🙆♂️Hope I get it when the day comes God willing 🙏
I ordered an Arai Quantum X because I was told it was more intermediate oval, and should've been a good fit. I followed the size chart perfectly, and ordered the L when I am an XL in nearly every Shoei. It didn't fit at all. The chin bar smashed my face, lol. Had to return it. I was bummed, but ended up with another Shoei. That just goes to show that circumference isn't the end-all-be-all. You need to try multiple brands and buy based on FITMENT. Good video!
You guys might want to mention that Arai is one of the ONLY premium helmet manufacturers that actually makes three different helmet shapes depending on whether you have a round noggin (round oval), Intermediate Oval (most common) or long oval. I think it may be relevant to folks in the market for an upper end helmet. I'm not sure your analogy of having your buddy look at your melon to determine your head shape is the ideal way to go about it...lol. Like you mentioned, gotta go to cyclegear or dealer that will actually let you try on their $1000 helmets (many won't) to see what fits your particular head the best.
My Smith Mainline MX/MTB helmet is my lightest, most comfortable and noisiest (you can’t even tell the googles are on; it has the view range of a 3/4 helmet). I decided for ADV to go with a mid-range modular (with high end features) and a neck protector, instead of a high-end helmet and no neck protection.
Great story one thing that you might add is hair style. Back when I had hair I would shave it in the summer. I bought a helmet in early March with a full head of hair shaved it in April and ended up buying another new helmet
Actually got a Shark Skwal 2 Flynn. Very good helmet for about 240€. The first one saved my life when I crashed and a car shot me in the head at about 60km/h (40mph).
@@ribalderr6052 I replaced it yes, with the exact same model. I rather change it after 5 years. If you store it correctly and don't let it fall on the floor, you can keep it more than 3 years.
Awesome!!! Just what I was looking for Getting my first bike and went to the store yesterday and was just confused by everything there. Now I can shop better informed.
@@greypolar2720 i ended up going with AGV K1 as well. Tried on the Sedici in store since its a Cyclegear product and they kept trying to sell that to me and didn't like it. Not sure how to explain it, but AGV K1 is built well for it's price. Some youtuber said Sedici should not even be worth $250
Ok I disagree with many points given here by or in this video! 1) DOT on your helmet only means that “it will keep your head in good enough shape to have an open casket” it is the most basic bare domes bottom of the Certification levels! 2) Price is very important. The materials used in building a quality helmet make all the difference. Go watch a video on how a Arai or Shoei helmet is built. Then look into your $110 brand. Huge difference. Some low $ helmets are made from a plastic that will flex when hit with a blunt force object that allows entry into the protective area. Crushing the cheap foam also made in two left/right sections for ease of assembly. A Kevlar,Carbon Fiber, or Fiberglass compost is going to cost much more than plastic but will protect 500x more than plastic. It sends impact throughout the helmet vs impact pressure in one location. SO COST DOES =BETTER PROTECTION! That just for the outside of the helmet. The inner core or shell can be made up of packing material foam in cheap helmets. This foam cannot handle 250G forces without crushing allowing your head to come into contact with outer shell. The higher priced helmets can have multiple densities of high quality foam thoughout the inner shell👍. That’s what you want, 3) Dropping your plastic possibly two piece DOT helmet probably won’t hurt it. But dropping a high quality helmet from a height above 4 ft could damage the outer shell enough to distract from is full level of protection. Could weaken the bond of the fibers in the shell. So just don’t drop your helmet! 4) Noise level There is a huge difference in sound levels between brands. Wind noise is a given, but the amount of it can make your ride pleasurable or a headache! Also air flow. This will keep your head cooler or warmer depending on brand. 5) Visor selection and replacement. You want to be able to replace your visor or option of tint level which gives you day night options also style options. Your visor will get scratched or decayed from rock, sand, road debris, etc. it’s a good option to be able to change it out vs buy a new helmet! Happy shopping.
I just bought my first fullface helmet for an overpowered ebike (12kw motor). Bought online and the fit feels almost perfect. I said "almost" because I have no idea how helmets from different brands or categories feel. I also haven't thought about the head shape, the online seller didn't specify anything. I'll take note for next spring to visit a shop to try a few models to make my standard for comfort.
I didn't know that you had a shop. I love the video, but, you really need to halve the volume of that music when you are talking. In some parts the strings made me start to drift from listening to the important stuff. Otherwise, it was great. I really wanted to see you cut a Shoei in half, not just the cheapy Speed and Strength.
After wearing a Nolan N104 for a long time it had been a great helmet until the chin bar latch broke. I replaced it with a Shoei neotec 2. A very good fitting nice helmet except the chin bar blocks a lot of view compared to my old Nolan N104. After buying the Shoei I did find a Nolan n100-5 that fit like my N104 . For half the price and my opinion just as good a helmet. And the Nolan had a better chin strap retention system. And the dealer I bought the Shoei from won't let you return them. Even a day after the purchase.
Bell is well rounded!! working at a gear shop, Ive owned a TON of helmets (i have a problem, i know) and i always go back to shoei and bell. my rf12 and race star are my 2 favorite helmets ever owned. The best part of bell is that theyve been using mips for a handful of years now and starting making a mips version of their helmets for only a little more money compared to their standard versions.
@@ribalderr6052 I allways wondered if anyone else felt like a bobblehead too .. I'm a XXXL My kids laughed at me one day so I looked in the mirror and cried from laughing too .. 😆😆😆🤣🤣 👍😁👍
A Bell helmet most probably saved my life. I went over the handle bars off my mountain bike at fairly high speed, and the helmet was absolutely destroyed from all the impacts, but my head was totally fine. The rest of the body didn't fare as well, I was bed ridden for about a month, but the helmet did its job. And this was only a bicycle helmet.
The dropping the helmet is interesting. Coming from the horse world, if you happen to drop your helmet a few times on concrete or other hard surfaces it is recommended you replace it.
As for dropping the helmet: I dropped my helmet on the very first ride I had it on, just fell off the bike when we stopped to take a break. Buddy was exactly the "great, now you need a new one" type of guy. But tell you what: aside from a few scratches the helmet is perfectly fine
Oh OOO K there microscopic eyes person of all knowledge of composites, Im sure it'll be just fine. dont let all those silly silly safety for yur brain boobs tell uuuuuuuuuu. right?.

So wish it were that easy to go into a shop and try helmets. If your lucky they’ll have 2-3 brands and a bunch of L’s and XL’s. If you watch any YT creators in Europe every shop has walls of helmets, floor to ceiling, front to back helmets. I’ve been wearing the same brand helmet, same model (updated versions) for like 6 helmets now. The real reason is I know I can order a small, yup a small, and it will always fit. I’d like to try some other brands but you ever see size small in stock anywhere? More shops need more helmets, and protective riding gear.
I had to drive over an hour to my closest Cycle Gear to find a selection of helmets in stock. I live near the Toledo, Ohio area and I had to drive to the greater Detroit area to find one. I have a HUGE head and typically end up with a XXL or XXXL helmet depending on the brand. I was floored by the literal 10 foot high wall of helmets that ran down one entire side of the store. Dude there in the store helped me fit up and I landed on their house brand Sedici Strada II Parlare because I was looking for built in Bluetooth.
@@craigbomer8962 as a size small I have the literal opposite problem you have. And I drove an hour to our nearest cycle gear to see a wall of helmets size med and up and very few modular. I’m extremely claustrophobic so it’s the only way I can tolerate a full face. I can slam it closed only after I’m actually moving.
As a naked bike lover, I totally just bought a modular... Though I suppose I am getting close to the "goldwing years"... The idea that I can flip up the whole front to have a conversation without taking the helmet off is just too good for me. Plus, with my super manly beard, I don't have to worry about the chin curtain constantly coming off when I put the thing on.
My current helmet is just over 2 years old so I'm not in the market right now, but I will definitely buy a modular helmet next just for the sake of convenience (like stopping for a quick drink of water etc). But then again I'm also pondering about trading my Speed Triple 1200 for an ADV bike somewhere in the next couple of years so I'm with you on getting close to the Goldwing years :D
I was going to go modular on my new helmet this year. Very nearly pulled the trigger on the RPHA 90. Alas, in the end I opted against it as I just fell in love with how perfectly Arai helmets sit on my head, and they don't make modulars. In the end I had to pick the convenience of a modular and the perfection of an Arai on my head. I chose the latter as when I asked myself why I wanted a modular, the only answer I could come up with was "it's easier to drink a bottle of water on the go." That's all well and good, except I never ride long enough to need to drink on the go, so that choice, for me anyway, was clear. Don't get me wrong though, I still love modulars and may one day get one when it makes more sense for me.
Same I just bought an Ebike and I didn't realize how fast 25mph when you're not in a car. I really want a helmet. I think the cheapest motorcycle helmet will be better than a bike helmet.
I picked up the Arai corsair x Nakagami 3 Cardo black awesome setup all from cycle-gear. I'll check your store out. Also got the electric teal r3 and want a zx10r next

I bought an ILM helmet from Facebook about a year ago. Sized it up by measuring and it fits great! I would be interested in hearing if you guys, or anyone else has anything to say about this brand. Seems like pretty good quality. I actually bought it for my snowmobile, but plan on getting my first bike in a few months
I just had a drunk driver pull out in front of me on my 2 month old '21 MT-07 going 45mph so I'm in the market for a new helmet. Luckily he has full coverage so I won't be paying for it lol. But my poor 2k mile bike...
Glad to see you made it ok. Sorry to hear about the bike 😢 hopefully you can get back out there soon. If your looking for something light, Sedeci makes a great carbon fiber helmet for the money.
@@peemot007 thanks for the condolences and the recommendation. Just to add (otherwise great video content) that the white flip-up Nolan helmet is a N90-3, not a N100-5. The N90-3 is their basic flip-up while the N100-5 is their higher price ranged helmet.
Back in the 70s I watched a guy trying to hang his sparkly open face helmet on his handlebar and dropped it. It cracked and the guy was thrilled when the store gave him a brand-new one just like it. 🤦🏻♂️
HJC is the largest helmet manufacturer in the world. Because of that fact their entry level helmets will have better materials, etc, vs competition at that price point.
Since starting in 2007 I've worn helmets ranging from $66 (1Storm from Amazon that I originally bought to wear on my electric skateboard) to the $1,700 FIM certified helmet I currently wear on my motorcycle. There's absolutely a difference in quality and features between price points; however, the best value I've experienced is with HJC. I've owned five HJC helmets since my first in 2007 and that company makes high quality helmets at various price points. Plus their Marvel licensing is impressive. I'm a little disappointed in Icon. I've only owned two since I began riding, but I rate both mediocre for the price. The Icon Airflite Space Force ($300) looks amazing, but I feel the $300 is mostly for the graphics. For $300 one can get a superior helmet from HJC. It might not be as flashy, but for me at least it feels a lot safer and more comfortable.
Do you have safety concerns about helmet color? According to my research, white helmets have 26% fewer accidents. I prefer a dark glossy gray. Before viewing your video I ordered a white and black Bell SRT modular. The next helmet, I will order from your site. Loved the chainsaw opening, hilarious!

How did you do that without a endorsement on your license? like getting it registered and insured? By the way I hope you get the MSF with a pass:) I'm doing mines soon hopefully I get it

If you go to a shop to try on, buy the helmet there otherwise the shop won't be there next time!!!
I use an hjc.. my experience is extreme wind noise due to lack of chin curtain and other innards
And it's wonderfully aerodynamic
Just a tidbit
I had the same experience with HJC. I regret the purchase. I love my scorpion covert fx
The thermometer is picking up a lot of reflected IR from the sun rather than originating from the helmet.
glossy finish reflects sunlight... i have smk hybrid evo white full face in white color.
In addition to safety squads point, also they are pretty well insulated so outside color probably doesn't make as much of a difference to inside temperature as you may think. Especially with a 100 degree head taking up all the room. Whatever air is coming in vs your already hot head is really all that matters im guessing.
The helmet will have stopped doing its job long before a crack is visible to the human eye.

Snell is required for track use, mainly drag racing, because its fire resistant.
just found your videos, save me so mistakes already.
Huge amount of respect for putting peoples saftey over helmet sales on you're own site!
I have 3 Arai helmets. A 3k car racing helmet, a road helmet, and an adventure helmet. They are more expensive than most but you can feel the quality immediately when wearing. Most of all Arai is the only shape that fits my Melon.
Now if only the rest of the body had the same protection
Have been using the Shoei x-14; by far, the best helmet on the market right now.
im a 27 year old with a 250cc Suzuki Cruiser and i rock a modular helmet and i can say ill probably never use anything other than a modular helmet. best decision i made when shopping for a helmet.
E3. E represents ece and the number means the particular country of origin.
how does their sizing run? i've thought they'd be something i'd be interested in, but haven't seen them near me that often.
how is the noise?

One thing they missed. Most helmets use a simple brow measurement for sizing. I’m a large in Arai XD-4 but I must have chipmunk cheeks. When I order a new Arai, I have to order thinner cheek pads. When I buy a Corsair X, I’m a large and the pads are perfect. If the cranial shell and padding is correct around your skull but your cheek pads are too thick or even too thin, usually with quality brands, you can swap the pads for a better fit.

Nice, what helmet did you end up buying?
I have been spoiled for helmets going on forward from now on.
i have to say the same for the quantum x ill pay extra for that plushness i mean it is going to be like a 2-4 year investment
@@Khmersupra I tried the Arai RX7 RR / Corsair years ago and never looked back ,my last 4 lids have been Arai.
Yah totally, that suggestion to treat retailers like a showroom was pretty obtuse.
I'm so happy I went to a local giant motorsports store and tried them on, because NONE fit me at all. I had to find the only model that had that went 3xl or something, I guess I have a large head, giggity.
It would have been super frustrating getting and returning helmets bought online over and over. It's like buying clothes but not knowing your sizing at all, good fing luck.
oh so i should only buy helmets that don't fit at all? you are a troll...
@@MrTeddy12397 No, you should reward the retailer that has the stock you can try on by buying from them, if they have what you need, instead of buying it somewhere else. That convenience of trying things on costs money to deliver.

@@skywalker7517 I paid half that so yah 400-500 would be a lot for me

Modular helmets also help riders that require prescription glasses to ride. Most standard full face helmets make it tough to put your glasses on.
i have a Shark Race R Pro Blank Black and i can't complain about putting my glasses on, maybe it differs to the type of glasses, maybe yours are a more bulky type of glasses

Good video!
Shoei runs a little small compared to arai
Drop down sun visor designs compromise on helmet safety design which is why Arai doesn’t make them.
I'm a first time rider, and yes I have heard about the dropping helmet. Thanks so much for the info.
Just found this. I used to have a "Rambo First Blood" enduro. I used an MX style helmet on the street, It formed a wing & lifted up.

That’s what you want,
3) Dropping your plastic possibly two piece DOT helmet probably won’t hurt it.
Aaaah, love the classical background music in this video.
Very fitting that one of my targeted ads was for the new Ruroc helmet
I didn't know that you had a shop. I love the video, but, you really need to halve the volume of that music when you are talking. In some parts the strings made me start to drift from listening to the important stuff. Otherwise, it was great. I really wanted to see you cut a Shoei in half, not just the cheapy Speed and Strength.
If head shape is a big deal, why doesn't the store make it an option when shopping? The only option is size.
As far as cheap helmets go bell has some good legit helmet selections. Just my opinion 👍👍

@@peemot007 thanks for the condolences and the recommendation. I had an LS2 Valiant for the modular to full-face convenience, but after the concussion and black eye I'm still rocking I'm gonna go for something a little more rugged lol. My full Icon I wore last year was too tight, I couldn't talk without biting my cheeks.
But you are ok. That’s what matters you will get another bike. Got lucky if you ask me.
@@calvinbarriga195 my wheel/body hit right below his Jeeps passenger mirror and the right side swung around and smashed my foot between the bike and his wheel. Hard enough to break his tie-rod. 1 more second and he wouldve ran me right iver. I didn't break a single bone or go down myself though, but he was twice the legal limit and only made it half a block down before getting arrested.
I love the information, definitely earned my subscription
Just to add (otherwise great video content) that the white flip-up Nolan helmet is a N90-3, not a N100-5. The N90-3 is their basic flip-up while the N100-5 is their higher price ranged helmet.
Back in the 70s I watched a guy trying to hang his sparkly open face helmet on his handlebar and dropped it. It cracked and the guy was thrilled when the store gave him a brand-new one just like it. 🤦🏻♂️
"Mama said; stoopid is as stoopid does".
HJC is the largest helmet manufacturer in the world. Because of that fact their entry level helmets will have better materials, etc, vs competition at that price point.
Love your channel. A true service to riders!
Can you guys do a review on the cat ear HNJ helmet? I haven't seen anyone actually review it
Since starting in 2007 I've worn helmets ranging from $66 (1Storm from Amazon that I originally bought to wear on my electric skateboard) to the $1,700 FIM certified helmet I currently wear on my motorcycle.
Shout out to yams for the exact length of the video.
If you do another test, I'll tell you some tools I use that don't smoke.
I gust knew that yammie would pop out at the end and tell me to be a man and keep watching yammie noob
