Had Schuberth and Shoei, great helmets but I bought the Tourmodular, looks great, light, quiet, comfortable, love it…
I bought the Freed Conn modular helmet on Amazon for about 230USD. The prices vary by seller. It has 3 air vents that open or close. One on the front with a small HEPA filter in it! And 2 on top with a rear vent. Nice air flow and defog for the inside of the visor. It also has a chin flap to help cut wind noise on the mic. Flip down sun visor and built in Bluetooth for communication with other riders, radio or internet music. Same long red button inside the front lower edge to flip it up. Locks in with an audible click. When I bought it on Amazon, it came with shielded gloves sized to match helmet size from FOD Sports. Index finger of glove coated to use on touch screen phones too.
Thanks Tony, looking forward to the new shop opening in Scotland
There’s a shop opening in Scotland 😮🎉
It's true what you say about the best fit is the best helmet. I've tried many brands at all price ranges and keep coming back to Nolan as it's the best fit. I must have a round head!!! 😁
RPHA91-owner here and I'm well happy, especially with the ventilation and noise.
Same, only the top vent annoys me, seems to be a ram scoop for flying insects, solved with a bit of foam :) No more unwelcome guests!
Dang. I got the I100 and it is NOISY in open or closed position.
Anyone of you tried neotech / schubert c5?
Leaning towards the RPHA 91, just struggling with taking the plunge...
Bazz from Australia and I've worn the Nolan helmets for the last 15 years and yes the fit is excellent. Never had a problem with rain leaking into inside of the helmet. I think it's great value for money. My only issue is finding trader in Australia that sells Nolan as postage from Italy is killer for us down - under.
Also a RPHA91 owner and pretty happy with it. Yes there are some drops going on the inside of the helmet in heavy rain but it's not that big of a problem. Coming from a HJC i100 i immediate noticed how silent the RPHA91 was. The intercom for the i100 is better than for the RPHA91 coming from the HJC brand. Also one downside that you already mentioned is the visor that doesn't stay up that well. On low speeds it's not a big problem but with higher speeds it shuts itself close. The sun visor is great and riding with the chinbar up is also possible with the little lock on the side. I bought the bright yellow one and this comes with a little advantage because you look like a police officer ;-)
Had various flip helmets over the years and just bought a LS2 ADVANT-X to replace my old LS2 valiant, hopefully should be a excellent helmet like the last ls2. I also use a Shuberth E1 which I've had for 5yrs which is brilliant. Love the reviews 👍
I've been using one of those for a year now. I've been impressed by quality ease of use and fit.
I finally found an Advant in a store yesterday, I have used the Horizon and the Valiant, the Horizon is quieter than the Valiant, and the Valiant is not very aerodynamic and deals with buffeting at speed. How does the Advant fair in noise and buffeting?
Thanks for including some comments about shell shape and fit. I work in the industry, fit helmets for a living, and it's the most over-looked, but most important, aspect of a helmet. Top brands all meet/exceed the safety standards, so fit should be one of the primary targets. I haven't yet brought in the Tourmodular because of the lack of success with the previous Sportmodular version. And we aren't a Nolan dealer. Which of the four, outside the Nolan, would you say has the longest oval fit?
As someone with a round head (well it's actually square, but round is the closest from the common terms) it's hard for me to say. None of these helmets felt particularly narrow on my head, so I suspect most of these will fall into the intermediate oval category. Cheers, Tony
I have very long oval head which means in most of my motocycling decades I was disturbed and had an aching head on multi-day trips. So I fully agree that head-shape fit is the most important criteria. I don't like the fact that whenever I find a long oval helmet, the next version of the same helmet usually is different. I had this disappointment with Schuberth C-series before and now with Shoei Neotec. The only helmet that is perfectly comfortable for me even on a 10-day trip is the Shoei Neotec II. I recommend this very much. However Neotec 3 is already more rounded, doesn't fit so comfortably. Neotec II is still available and is on sale, long-oval guys, go for it now!
I have played my cards on a adx2,not included here. It was to replace my old Astone rt1000. So far no noises and the largely commented weight doesn't bother me. Thanks for the video!
No worries. I've just finished researching the best budget flipfront helmets and the ADX-2 may well make an appearance there as it's a sub-£200 helmet. We're hoping that will be published very soon. Thanks for the feedback on the lid. Cheers, Tony
Wear mine purely because I wear flexi frame glasses and cannot get them on through a full face. Schuberth c3 is the only one flexible enough for me to pull apart to put on though that I have found so far.
I wanted an AGV Sport Modular due to its low weight from the carbon fiber construction. I refused to buy it because it only came with a double "D" fastening system. Shoei wouldn't allow shipment from the EU to the USA; so, I opted for the Schuberth C5. I think it is the best helmet with the best integrated communication system.
They’re great when you have to sneeze 😊😊😊
I'm surprised NEXX wasn't here. I've had three of them and they're very good and not too pricey.
It's a shame that Caberg didn't make it onto this list. I ride with a Caberg Levo Hivision composite helmet in yellow. I need a helmet with good peripheral vision because I have limited mobility in my neck, and need to see clearly when doing my lifesavers etc. with 40+ years of riding experience, this is by far the best helmet I have ever worn.
As the guy said: it’s their list. So if the Caberg is your pick.. 👍😉
Hmm, interesting - factual and declared when possible bias, but why no Scorpion Exo-Tech? I've JUST got one (from you guys), so not even used it yet, but seems good value for a LOT of features.
Hope I get on with it!
We've kept 'flip-over' helmets for their own guide, which is coming soon, and the Exo-Tech Evo will be in that. Cheers, Tony
Caberg for me.
How is the neotec 3 for noise? I'm using the neotec 2 and the wind coming in from the flip front gap is far too loud. It's the biggest problem with these types of helmets.
Keep in mind it matters what the aero on your bike is like. On my ninja any helmet is loud and I need ear plugs. On my GS with a touring screen I can ride on the motorway with the front flipped up and i'm totally fine.
Some windshields on sports bikes cause more problems than they solve for aero too because they direct turbulent wind to your helmet. My SV650 naked bike was probably quieter than my ninja 1000 with the screen set in the tallest position. In fact noise goes up when I put the screen up on the ninja, just because it messes with the airflow
As Jack says below, so much depends on your riding conditions that I can only give my experience. For this video I wore four of the five helmets on a set route at 60mph back-to-back and there wasn't much in it - the Schuberth, Shoei and AGV were pretty much indistinguishable and the Nolan was a bit louder. That might change in another set of circumstances. Cheers, Tony
I always use ear plugs with my Neotec 2
@@cam5376 Clearly need a GS 😂😂
@@jackmccourt6180 Nooooooooooooooo
All I want a better helmet brand making a modular helmet with a sun peak. I have the scorpion adx2 but it’s plastic and squeaks when going over bumps. Schuberth makes one but that kind of fails on making install of a real intercom difficult.
Please Shoei, make the next Hornet a flip front, just put a peak on a neotec 3 and I’ll be happy.
Agreed
I bought the Neotec 3 based on ChampionsHelmets review, but man, the ventilation is non existent for my setup.
LS2 ?
Can’t decide between a flip up or flip over. Help!
How much do you want to ride with the chinbar up, and at what speed? Flipovers are better for longer periods and higher speeds in open-face mode as the weight distribution tends to be better and you retain use of the outer visor (with a flip-up you'll only have the sun visor when the chinbar is up). If you're less fussed about riding in open-face set-up then I'd say a regular flip is lighter and simpler. Hope that helps. Cheers, Tony
@@sportsbikeshop that is very helpful indeed Tony, thank you. 👍
Flip front ! )))
Any modulars that actually have D rings?🤔
It's very rare in Europe. AGV had the Sportmodular, but they've not updated that for the new ECE 22.06 safety regulation. Looks like the United States has some modulars with D-rings, though. Of the helmets on this list, the HJC RPHA-91 seems to have D-rings in the US. Cheers, Tony
@@sportsbikeshop so dont buy the hjc here in the US...got it. drings are stupid
@@sportsbikeshop I recently saw a AGV Sportmodular at a Dainese shop in Las Vegas. It had double "D" rings. The AGV Tourmodular had the ratcheting mechanism. No modular helmet can meet the Snell rating; so, I see no reason to continue using a double "D" ring in any modular helmet.
Why no mention of SHARP ratings?
There's only so much info I could get into a minute, and only two of the five lids had ratings at the time of recording - the C5 is 4-star and the Neotec 3 is 5-star. Thanks for getting in touch. Cheers, Tony
I believe that Shark helmets must be in this review because they have more features.
There are no ECE 22.06-approved flipfront, or flipover, helmets in the Shark collection. Cheers, Tony
Ridiculous prices...ok, I am old, I got my first Bell Star in 1971, £27.50, that was lot then and it was made in theUSA. Now I have 3 Uvex helmets (1 flip, 2 full, some carbon, some tri composite), 1 Bell flip (China!!!), composite, and a couple of Nishua carbon helmets from the big German shop.
You forgot Shark Evo ES
That helmet has been discontinued so I didn't consider it for this guide, although flipover helmets like that will most likely be covered in a separate grouping anyway. Cheers, Tony
I bought the Hjc Rpha90 s carbon flip front at £400 from sportsbikeshop and it’s a terrible helmet, leaks like mad in the rain and noisey
How on earth do customers think that the C5 Pros intercom integrates well with the helmet?! Who in their right mind (Germans!) would think that having a separate unit for the controls of the intercom _that takes a separate battery.....THAT ISN'T RECHARGABLE...._ was a good idea?
I control mine solely by voice. I don't have a separate control unit and don't use the buttons on the helmet.
@@gregorytragitt2208 I you don't have a separate control unit then you don't have any buttons on the helmet other than the power button on the back.
@@swoop1352 There are 4 buttons on the side of the helmet that I never use. Just say: "hey Sena ...." I sometimes use my Zumo XT2 for some commands.
Got one, don't like it, noisier steam up more, prefer full face ( have £600 helmet.its usually fat old bearded adventure bike riders (ooo just realised that's me)
None of these manufacturers make one that will fit my big head. HJC is the only brand that does.
There's an HJC in this list - the RPHA-91. Cheers, Tony
What about the scorpion fall flip one of only two flip right to the back rubbish review
Those helmets (at the risk of making up our own words, we call them flip-overs) will get their own Top 5 soon. Thanks for getting in touch. Cheers, Tony
X-lite X-1005 is better than any of them.
Maybe so, but when I reviewed it I didn't feel there was a big enough benefit over the Nolan N100-5 (Now N100-6). The X-lite is now under the Nolan brand (from 2024 onwards, they all are). We'll see how customer feedback goes with a view to the 2025 list. Thanks for getting in touch. Cheers, Tony
Never
there is no need to pay that much for a helmet for god sake.
Maybe not, but having just finished the research for a similar video on the best budget flipfronts, there is a significant step up in the experience if you are able to spend more money. There's no need to fly first class either, but I hear it's quite nice up the front of the plane. Everyone has their own choice to make. Thanks for getting in touch. Cheers, Tony
