  • Just got these two helmets in today and wanted to make a side by side video. Overall I would recommend the R1 over the 1400 as I find that the quality is a bit better, the helmet is lighter, and it fits me more comfortably than the 1400. Let me know if you have any questions and I’ll answer them in the comments!

Exactly why I made this video! I’m surprised there’s not much more information comparing the two side by side!

Living in a Mediterranean country, the drop-down sunvisor is crucial for me. Getting blinded by scorching sun, having the sun blaze into your eyes after exiting a tunnel, slick road surface reflecting the sun in your eyes from below, riding towards the setting sun with your face on fire, having to stop to put your sunglasses on/off everytime... all of the above create dangers and discomfort that are easily mitigated by a practical sunvisor like the one my Exo 1400 has. Wouldn't change it for the world.

Thanks for a side-by-side, I've been looking for days and couldn't find anything. My head is 56cm, but I run a med Shoei RF-1400 rn. Do you think staying med is alright? I'm still undecided but leaning toward R1. Was kinda looking for the sun visor since I usually go out in the afternoon and return at night, carrying a visor is a bit annoying. The build of the R1 does look nice tho. Do you think the 1400 is snug/ aero enough at higher 120+ speeds? Thanks
Edit: What earbuds do u ride with?

I see you are right on the cusp for the small or medium. If your budget allows, definitely purchase both of the sizes if you do not have a local store to try them on at and then return the size that doesn’t fit as well but make sure to not take off any of the stickers / ride with it. I’d definitely recommend wearing it around the house for about a half an hour to see if you get any points with it being uncomfortable and also do the classic side to side and up and down movement to test fit.
Overall, the 1400 is still a great helmet and my friend can also attest as he t boned an f150 with it on and had praised it, but I find that the r1 seems just a little bit better quality. I too do a lot of night riding and that was a big deciding factor for me but I really wish the st1400 had the option for a clear internal visor. Instead what I have been doing is just brining clear shooting glasses and riding with my visor up at night. I have yet to ride with these helmets on so can’t say but I’ve heard they are good, but the r1 might have a little better aero at those speeds. I use the MEE M6 Pro IEM’s with the short helmet cord. I plug them into my sena 50s so I can hear everything that comes through the sena in them and highly recommend them especially if you have an issue with wind noise and also want to protect your hearing!

So I've had the r1 air for a few weeks just got thr 1400 today have worn it once. I love the flip down shades! And yes the r1 air is Def more aerodynamic at speeds above 100 mph

@@nathanbrauerdocdead9947 Crazy I'm just seeing this but, I recently got the R1 2 weeks ago. And I love it. Wayyy lighter than my Shoei, love the air pump, looks sick, and the tinted visor is great during that day and almost clear at night. If I had to pick something I like the chin curtain to be bigger so less air gets through. But overall a great helmet for the money.

@@woodie8012 surprisingly the tinted visor does work at night ok. I ended up returning it for the 1400 it's just about as light and has the flip down sunglasses. Both are pretty great value though just comes down to personal preference.

    Good comparison. These are 2 different types of helmets for different types or riders;
Scorpion 1400 is for cruiser peeps or commuters (plus includes internal tinted visor)
Scorpio R1 Air is for track and street racers.
I do like my Scorpion R1 Air but honestly have to say the quality does not match my Arai Corsair-X or even my older Shoe X-14 but these helmets are 1/3 the price too.

  • @jeremylyon3228

    Two questions:
    1) How do the ride aerodynamics compare? (Like, is the R1 designed for a more aggressive riding position? Are the two the same? IS the ST1400 any better for a more upright riding position?)
2)Are the pads from the R1 able to be swapped into the ST1400? Like, if purchased an ST1400 helmet and a set of R1 cheek pads, could I swap the superior R1 pads into the ST1400, and does that improve the fit?
This video was already extremely helpful! Thanks :)

      1. The R1 is better when driving at higher speeds when it comes to aerodynamics but under 120km/h you dont notice a diffrence except in noise level, the r1 have significantly more wind noise.
      2. The pads are not able to be switched between the helmets

I have them both right now but I prefer the 1400. The material inside is very similar. As is weight. I love the flip down shades. Also chin airflow selector on inside of chin on r1 air scrapes my chin. The 1400 doesn't have it. They're both just over 3 lbs. The R1 air seems more aerodynamic.

Is the helmet loud for others? Exo 1400 is, how is wind noise for you? mine is unbearable, I bought a closed crash helmet precisely because of the wind noise, but I won't wear it without earplugs, I would prefer to send it back to the manufacturer because this is not what I expected, I am disappointed!

In terms of seating position, 1400 seems more suitable for adventure motorcycles.
