Scorpion’s sumptuous sporty carbon-fibre helmet is one of the UK’s most popular lids. Light, well finished and with a host of eye-catching features, it’s easy to see why so many people fall for its charms. Here’s our run through of everything you need to know.

Great review. I've had a HJC IS-MAX II since I started riding in December 2020 and it's been very good overall for the money. However it is noisy at any reasonable speed which I know is partly due to it being modular. Just started looking at what to get next and I think a full face makes sense, this looks like a great option at a good price. Just an FYI, on the product page of this helmet on your site, it says that it doesn't have a Sharp rating, so I was glad to hear it in fact does! Will visit my local SBS soon to try one on :)
Thanks for bringing that to our attention - though I've just checked and the SHARP rating is for the old Exo-1400 Air rather than this carbon-fibre version. I've had a look at SHARP ratings for the best-known lids that come in carbon versions and, on the whole, they're rated the same with or without a carbon shell, but it wouldn't be right to assume an Exo-1400 Air Carbon scores the same as the non-carbon lid. Cheers for getting in touch. Thanks, Tony
Mine is on it's way and arriving from Sportsbikeshop within the hour! Nice to see a sensible and complete review which is not filled with super-false, over-the-top Americans, ranting and hollering! LOL! This Scorpion is going to replace my HJC FG-15 Carbon which I've had for a few years now and is getting past its best. I'm an open face man most of the summer (I have a Shoei and a Bell) but, for long road trips or in winter when it's cold, a full face offers more protection. Looking forward to receiving it soon and to giving it its first spin out!
Thanks for the kind comment :D I hope you enjoy the helmet. Cheers, Tony
How are you getting on with the helmet Len? How would you rate the wind noise?
Can't find size xs anywhere. Was really liking one of these.
The arrival of the new safety standard means this model has been superceded by the Scorpion Exo 1400 Evo Carbon Air. You'd be hard pressed to tell the difference and it's available here in XS... www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/757394 Cheers, Tony
Would this helmet in a size M fit in the 'frunk' of a 2014 Honda NC750X? I can't seem to find any info on that and need to know - thanks!
Frunk? I like that. We don't have access to one of those bikes, but we can give you dimensions of the lid - 285mm side to side, 388mm front to back and 293mm top to bottom. Hopefully that helps you work it out. If not, pop to one of our shops and I'm sure someone there will help you find out. Cheers, Tony
What's the difference between 1400 evolution carbon. And carbon 2
I purchased one and I had an issue with wind noise contacted scorpion and was given info on how to ajust visor to make the seal better need to get out and try and see If it's worked have you had any others with this issue
I've just asked our returns team the question and this issue is something we've had with Scorpion and the importers will either adjust the helmet, or give advice on how to do it. Cheers, Tony
You should mention product prices in your reviews. That is an important point. Thanks.
Thanks for getting in touch. Prices are shown early on in the videos, but I'll have a think about how we can refer to the price a bit more. Cheers - Tony
What shape head does it suit? I’m usually stuck with my C3Pro in XXXL, so difficult to find a helmet that fits a large brain 😉
Head shape of helmets is a very inexact science I think. My head is what's probably best described as 'round' as it's about as wide as it is long. I found the Exo-1400 to be a little too short to be the perfect fit for me (I had some light pressure at my forehead). Based on that, I'd suggest it's an intermediate oval. I'll spend more time trying to reach some definitive answers as questions like this are cropping up more frequently. Thanks for getting in touch and I hope I've helped, even if it's just a little bit. Cheers, Tony
@@sportsbikeshop wouldn’t the helmet be too round if it was pressing your forehead and more oval if it was squeezing the sides of your head?
Hi, would you be able to indicate where the safety certification sticker is? I bought this helmet and can’t find it anywhere.
Hi, you'll find the safety certification on a label stitched to the helmet's chinstrap. It's just tucked behind a cover so you might need to fiddle around to reach it. Cheers, Tony
@@sportsbikeshop Thank you so much!
Hi Tony, could you help please - do you know the difference between Scorpion EXO-1400 Carbon, EXO1400 EVO Carbon and EXO1400 AIR Carbon? Seems like a different asking price but I can't find information on what is different. Many thanks.
Hi, I don't think there ever was an Exo-1400 Carbon (the 'Air' refers to the Airfit system behind the cheekpads and the Exo-1400 had that from the start). The Exo-1400 Air Carbon is the helmet reviewed in this video. The Exo-1400 Evo Carbon Air is an updated version of the helmet in this video, which meets the new safety standard. I'm in the process of reviewing that helmet and I hope to have it published in the next few months (product listing here... www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/757394). I hope that helps you make sense of it all. Cheers, Tony
@@sportsbikeshop many thanks Tony, it is clearer now.
Good luck with your new video!
Can't find size xs anywhere. Was really liking one of these.
I want to ask if size L will fit head size M (57mm) if it air pump is inflated?
I wouldn't expect inflation to bring the helmet down a size like that, but fit is always a personal thing and you'd need to try one to be sure. Cheers, Tony
Is the sun shade visor removable from this helmet?
It is. Scorpion's manual gives the following instructions for this: "First, open outer shield to the highest position. Then lower the sunvisor to lowest possible position. To remove the sunvisor, firmly hold the sunvisor with your hand and gently pull one side out away from the helmet to release. Repeat to release the opposite side. Reverse process for installation." I hope that helps you. Cheers, Tony
This air text ön side is remowable ?
Yes, if the 'Airfit' sticker is on the left side of the chinbar then this can be removed after purchase. Thanks for getting in touch. Cheers, Tony
What is the jacket you are wearing mate?
It's a Dainese Fighter leather jacket... www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/296125
Silly question on the top vent which position is open and which is closed
The slider on top goes back to open the vent and forward to close it. There's an intermediate step that leaves the vent half-open. Cheers, Tony
@@sportsbikeshop thanks Tony
The internal visor does not come down far enough , apart from that its good value for money now .
Yeah, that's true. The reason is that it was conceived for sport touring. I rode a sport bike and the internal visor fits perfectly.
However, my bike is naked and indeed, it feels that the internal visor does not come down enough, but when I bought the helmet it included a smoke visor. So I don't use the internal one anymore
@@nephente1576 I have problems with my neck vertebrae and thinking of this helmet cause it's light, I drive a maxi scooter (Forza 350). Wouldn't it be the appropriate helmet for that position? GT helmets usually weigh way more.
@@barygol I think is fine. I ride a Hornet and i don’t have any problems. I love the helmet.
But as @saltire546 said, the internal smoke visor does not come down far enough. So if you want to keep the main visor transparent and use the internal one to protect you from the sun light. It’s not great.
However, if you plan to use the smoke visor as you’re main one, then I think you’ll like the helmet
What's fitment like I'm on M/L Large helmets.. depending on brand. What size would you recommend for this
Does this come with a smoke or tinted visor. The sun shade visor in side is utter shite.
At the moment you get a dark tinted visor supplied in the box, as well as the clear visor fitted as standard. That has been the case for a while and hopefully will remain so. Cheers, Tony
Oh the second visor is dark and not smoke. For some reason I though dark visors was much darker I honestly thought it was smoke. However when you double up the dark visor with sun visor it does look pretty dark. Which is what I expected the dark visor to be like. Limo tint 😂
Are you SURE that visor isn't road legal? I strongly suspect that it IS. If it says "daytime use only" on it then it IS legal. My Scorpion came with a darker visor and it is road legal.
This review was posted when ECE 22.05 was in force and the threshold for road legality was 50% light transmittance, which is quite a light tint. There was no 'daytime only' visor option - a visor with 50% tint was legal 24 hours a day. So anything with less than 50% light transmittance was not road legal. I believe 22.06 allows heavier tints if used in the daytime, but I would need to look into that and haven't yet had cause to do the research on it. Thanks for getting in touch. Cheers, Tony
It's a noisy helmet? The construction is good and the ventilation? I need a helmet for use every day
Noise is always dependent on so many factors, but we have had a lot of customer reviews for this helmet. From 198 reviews three people described the helmet as 'noisy' and 38 people called it 'quiet'. There are 42 reviews praising the build quality and none criticising it. As for venting, this is less commonly mentioned in reviews but from memory the incoming air is good. Thanks for getting in touch and I hope that helps you. Cheers, Tony
The dark visor is road legal in daylight
