  • Time to bring it home! The new to me Pursuit 3400 is geared up and ready to deliver back to Maryland... ON ITS OWN BOTTOM. Ben and Roman set off on what turns out to be a 15 hour delivery. Engines are running, hull side is patched, and spirits are high. BUT, despite our best preparation and thorough planning, will it be enough to make the 185 NM trip unscathed???? Tune in to find out...
Welcome to Boat Restoration by Ben! This is a channel based around all things boat and yacht restoration related. I work full time in the marine industry and when I'm not at work, I'm currently restoring my one of a kind 1992 Sea Ray 380 Sun Sport. This is my 12th boat project! From $100 boats to 60 year old relics, I started small and worked my way up. Despite my best judgement, I buy boats that need A LOT of work and fix them up myself. I grew up boating at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri, went to school to become an engineer, worked at John Deere for 5 years, and then decided to give it all up to pursue my dream to work in the recreational boat industry. Now having since moved to the Chesapeake Bay area, my mission is to share with the world my love and passion for mechanics and wrenching through my marine projects all while teaching you how to enjoy boats on a budget. I hope you Like these videos and please don't forget to Subscribe! Cheers, Ben.

Can’t help myself I’ve got to say it, think about this, you left dock for your first run in an unfamiliar boat on a 150 nm trip without filling your tanks, and someone has to leave a safe harbour to come to your aid because you ran out of fuel.

I just became addicted to this channel by watching your previous video. GREAT content!!! Thanks for taking the time to document your adventures.

  • @chuckfowler8875

Bro why didnt you top off thevtanks before you left!! You left Alantic Cit on 3/4 tanks you don't even know if your fuel gauges are accurate...Not smart my friend!!

  • @shoresharp8349

Hey man your going to find out theres a difference in total gallons of fuel and usable gallons of fuel in the tanks.

  • @SD-ft6gs

why were you not using the depth finder? (not judging asking for real if this is a common practice? it feels like that would allay some fears?

  • @thomaslangton3464

Great video, but you made the number one error as a sea going mariner...never leave without full fuel...enough said.

Amateurs who have forgotten the golden rule never leave without enough fuel

  • @slange455

Those old units would still be better than the navionics app at least you could see the real depth of the water

  • @craigcwillard

Did I hear you say you have a Capt. license? Or did you mean a boaters safety card.

  • @rdy4acld1

1/3 out, 1/3 in, 1/3 reserve always. No excuse for running out of fuel!

  • @boardnamona

Never seen a man so well kitted and prepared then to run out of fuel

  • @amilton2128

6 to 8 hours is the passage plan.

Hey man, I just delivered a 38 Tiara(sister ship) and it’s a very nice boat to run.

  • @BellavistaPEI

On a good note regarding your fuel issue, you got rid of all the old fuel and now you can run some clean fresh stuff in her!!

"So were low on fuel but gonna keep running both engines at full throttle..."

  • @johnbaker3832

Great video! Navigation on tight channels in shallow waters is a challenge. I know the UI on Navionics is 10/10 but the navigation is 2/10 (i.e. not good enough). That chart plotter might be ancient but would've kept you on course. Making similar mistakes is how I learned!

You could have skipped the embarrassment and ditched the maiden voyage, but you didn't. You got balls, bro. That's real. 👍👍👍 No one's perfect, me included.

Great job guys. Nice to know I'm not the only paranoid captain around. I'll never forget running up the Delaware bay by myself in the middle of the remnants of a hurricane in a boat that I had basically rebuilt that was from the 70s. I actually took her all the way from launching in Michigan city Indiana up and through the grand loop basically. All the waters around Chicago river and such are nerve wrecking. I also went during the worst season of when a huge mayflies brood was in the Midwest and I would literally have to scoop shovels full of them off the boat every couple of hours. Some people wind up cutting across the middle of Florida but we actually went all the way down through the Bahamas and as close to Cuba as possible at the time. I've always wanted to get a professional captains job to transport boats from wherever up and down the east coast. But primarily south Carolina and south through Florida or more south over even to Mexico. My favorite trip is probably starting in Pensacola and following the coast down to playa del Carmen Mexico. Truly an epic beautiful trip. Maybe we will get lucky would be legit to be your right hand guy some day

If I had that in SC on the ICW that would be heaven, I would live on it! 😊✌️❤️🤘🇺🇲
