Hey Ben, I’m also Ben and I also worked at John Deere for 5 years as a welder before leaving and chasing my dreams elsewhere. Love watching your content! Glad you are happy doing what you love.
Good honest sales pitch & description, I’ve watched a few of your videos over the past week 👍, i came up with a valuation of around $45k, guess was a bit off.
Plastic thru hulls on a 120k boat? Thats all i needed to hear.. Its worth the value of the motors, not a penny more.. If they went cheap on the thru hulls, that tells you everything else on the boat was done on the cheap..
Boats and RVs are similar in that they are always a work in progress. If that boat was brand new, there would be issues that would need to be addressed. Constant maintenance is a part of ownership. If you don't like fixing things or aren't "handy," you either need a lot of money to pay someone to do the work, or you should find something else to do besides boating.(or RVing) ( or classic cars) Personally, I love working on things, and there is really nothing I saw that wouldn't be a fairly easy fix. There are products that can bring the upholstery back to decent condition, and fixing hardware is no big deal. I could rebuild the genny if the engine isn't completely blown and the interior looks good. The engines are obviously the most important thing to consider, but Cummins diesels are pretty bulletproof. Man, that would be a fun project. Thanks for the tour.
We have a 50' or so Sea ray Sundancer in a marina here- 14 yr old boat with less than 1000 hours, was a "floating condo" for the original owners- two years ago went on a service call for a complaint of stb engine running rough, low power/smoke. Cummins QSM 11's. Stb engine has scored two cylinders, rust all over rocker arms, pulled injectors and bore scope verified. Gave an estimate to pull the head, evaluate further. Took six months to get the owner to pay for the diagnostic, then he thought he had hung up the phone- was loudly telling someone how we "just wanted to rip him off" so we brought his parts removed to do the diagnostic back, set them in his cockpit and said "have a nice day" It's still there, he bought a boat he can't afford to fix. Nobody else in town will touch it, it's like he expects an experienced diesel tech for five bucks an hour or something.
Good on you, my 38’ 85 silverton was a gasser, marina offered to drop in some Yanmar engines on a discount, told them hell no I can work on those gassers with my eyes closed, the over head and maint. on diesel is beyond my skills, however I’m curious how do you get rust inside and engine rocker arm, never seen that before
@@f.w.1318 The saltwater humidity down here is something that hits you like a wet mop. Plus, this boat spent a lot of time just tied to a dock acting like a floating condo/cocktail bar, likely never got run long enough to get up to proper operating temparature and burn off the condensation. So many times I work on a low hour but 20 year old diesel boat, there are literally marks in the cylinders where the piston rings sat. Moist, salty air comes in via open exhaust valves. Oil film on cylinders goes away over time. I see the boats that get used daily like work boats get tens of thousands of hours on the engines until they are worn out, but lightly used pleasureboats die a death of lack of use!
Gorgeous boat, perfect project. I think you might have been putting the wrong end of the gate catch into the slotted recess. Kind of boat you could fall for. ❤👍
She's beautiful with a lot of potential. Not bashing or negative in any way but, asking price is a bit high considering the amount of $$ one will have to shell out to get her back into shape. Replacement value is a moot point but that's for another discussion. Wish I had 50 grand. I'd love to make an offer! But, I'm disabled and it's above my pay grade lol. Loving your videos!
Dude, I feel your pain I went way down in the southern Kentucky way back in the hollers bought a bass boat. Everything supposedly worked. We brought all way back up here to Northern Ohio and another damn thing worked in the floor was rotted out, fixed it up sold it With the Akron bought 93 Sunbird you were supposed be perfect had replaced the whole freaking floor replaced the fuel tank replaced the seats. The motor had a crack 12 inches long freeze plugs were missing but the guy said he just headed out on Lake Erie impossible I got the motor all put back together and put it back in and then now I found water in oil. I am so depressed. I can’t find anybody to show me how to adjust the shifter cables manually. It goes reverse forward, but with the cables it doesn’t do anything, so I’m stuck. I don’t wanna part it out my wife upset. Have a blessed day.
@HDchico not really, 96 diesel and 2013. Seems on pretty good shape. New Gen., redo wiring and / or replace switches, change out a few pumps/ motors, replace A/C unit and ducting and blower motor. Clean boat, repaint, and fix some fiberglass depending on your usefulness and abilities. You're looking between 20 to 30 grand plus any electronic upgrades. So, if you offer $62,500.00, you might be surprised at how much wiggle room you might get on the price. It's called negotiations. Remember, they can only sell a boat for what someone is willing to pay. They longer it sits the less it is worth.
@@gregchrist5090 wet spots all over, generator don’t run, original engine unknown condition, the other already replaced. Swim platform junk and replacement poorly installed. That’s a pass for a lot of people. With the time and money to get this boat 100 percent you can buy something else that’s been well taken care of.
Way overpriced, just because it is big does not mean anything other than likely more rehab cost. The post-Covid garbage that is on the boat market is a disgrace. $330,000 for a 25 foot center console? Ummm, okay. For $79000 you can do a lot better if you just look around. You are likely looking at least one engine replacement, all the electronics, plausibly a fuel tank, the entire air conditioning system before you even think about putting it in the water. It is not a boat 'in good condition' or even close. It is closer to the scrapyard. The engines may be little more than 'rebuilt parts' material. You might do better scrapping it for parts.
And that does not include structural repairs to accommodate the other repairs or mold/mildew remediation. You could rehab it but most people would ask 'why?' The entire interior needs to be torn apart. There is cottage industry that guts hulls and rebuilds from the shell up to modern specs. Other than being cut up for factory refurbished parts, the best use for this boat is an architecture rebuild, you are really buying a hull, everything else is garbage/salvage.
Just my 2 cents.., old boats that need a pile of work in most cases are too far gone. You'd have to get the boat for free to make it worth while, and even then it's still probably not worth it. Take that money and buy a smaller, newer boat that's turn key or close to it instead. The idea is great, but it's just like buying a cheap old Cessna Citation or a Lear jet. You can get one for 75k and your like Wow 😍, but it's just going to cost you 750k to make it relevant and airworthy. 🤯😵 You might as well just buy something newer that would be the same total cost. Like I said, just an opinion...
Nice boat, with a lot of potential. Reasonable price considering everything that needs to be done and it was probably around 250k or more when new. I’m partial to the 39 and 45 ft sport express Hatteras offerings from ‘94-‘98. I’m a former employee that did mechanical/electrical installations at the High Point NC plant before they moved everything to the New Bern plant.
yeah but theres a thing of overshooting on the price will drive a lot of people that may be interested away from even making an offer thinking they are too far apart not even going to bother, to get a counter in the middle somewhere is usual practice so if its too high an asking price the offer gotta be super low, much better to deal with someone who is more reasonable with the bottom line
Honestly that boat has a lot of potential and priced at a very very reasonable price. If I had a bigger storage spot I'd be all over this boat! Great video
Great video Ben. I’ve really enjoyed the content lately. By the way, I’m guessing that a congratulations is due to you based on the evidence on your left hand.
The lazzarette is always the aft most compartment where the rudders are located on a vessel. That trunk is just a trunk. Now this boat doesn't really have a separate lazzarette from the engine room.
79 g's then sink in another 30 g's to get it sea worthy and dependable. with new electronics as well. 100 of man hours to get it looking great.. No way in hell man
Scrap the motors they are probably junk, remove the swim platform, have it shipped to Miami, where they do the custom platform for outboard motors and drop in 4 250hp outboards, never deal with that inboard nightmare on a used boat.

Cummins did a thing when the EPA took over back in 2007 ... Pure crap ever since 🤷🏻 Got 117,000 out of the first set of cams, and at 265,000 I washed out 3 cylinders, and burned a hole in the 4th 🤦🏻
