Most products manufactured today are flimsy, plastic, pieces of junk. $1000 iPhone with a two year lifespan... maybe three years max. Even if you are careful, they send you consistent updated until your device no longer applicable. They will literally update your phone until they lock you out.
Repair all the way, especially if you can do it yourself! Sometimes it's just a simple fix with minimal money for the new part and you're prolonging the product's life for years. Every now and then when I can't repair something and I do have have to replace it, I feel like a part of my soul is being stolen :(
lmao love the fact i just listened to a bill podcast where him and his mrs slated "Gamers being a waste of time" - now uploads him playing constant fps games. Fucking LOVE bill lol
Vizio 55" lasted 4 years, stressed solder joints. Fixed it myself. Sony 60" 13 months, new motherboard. My mom still has a tube TV going on 30 years. I have an old one I don't use but it works, I bought it at a tag sale in 1980 for $20. We need 60" tube TVs.
One thing that I was hoping Bill would talk about is why the TV'S are so cheap... The manufacturers figured out that they could put ads in these things, call them smart TVs, and collect your data from day one, collecting profits over time instead of just once

I have a flat screen that I bought for 1200 back in late 2004. At the time is was one of the best ones you could buy at Wal-Mart. I originally bought a plasma, but after about 5 days, I just didn't like the way the image would sort of stay on the screen, so I took it back and upgraded to an LCD and it still works great to this day. I was actually using it up until about 3-4 months ago and the only raeson I'm not is to save space. It's just a ltitle too heavy to put on the wall. I just wouldn't trust it and I'd rather not chance it.
There's currently a big problem with the right to repair in the industry where companies aren't being friendly with their repair options. One of the best RUclipsrs that talks about this is Louis Rossmann
The monitor and computer are already one. That was done like 15 years ago. I know because some friends had one. I do believe it will end up being a bigger thing at some point, but at the time it was just an expensive computer. Once they sell it for the prices they sell TV's for now, where you can get a decent 42 inch for like 350, then it'll catch one more. I actually have an idea for what the next thing might be in terms of the visual medium, but I'm not gonna say. Either I'm gonna find a way to make it or see if I end up being right. More likely it'll be the latter haha
My great aunt lived til 90 with the 1st tv she ever bought, it never broke, it was one of those huge wood TVs and when she died we just left it there, we weren’t gonna move that thing fuck that
Has anyone noticed how Paul and Bill talk so similarly? Paul sounds identical to Bill, but with a slightly higher voice. I actually thought the first voice I heard in this video was Bill until Bill started talking, and then I thought of Paul Virzi, and sure enough, it says it in the description! lmao
Hey Bill, check out 'Louis Rossman' on youtube. Right to repair is a real cause, and as a technician, big business gets underhanded, both to us techs and to the consumer. Apple is a big offender. I know, he is a New Yorker, boston boy, but you would enjoy his colorful use of vocabulary. I became interested in his channel when I found out he runs a mac repair shop in NYC, found some replacement screens for laptops from China, and apple actually had them seized by customs, dirty play. Right up your alley.
Me having my tv in the office for 10 years because I got it from my mom when I first moved out. And then getting another new one 3 years ago. But right to repair!
I remember those big tvs that were built into wood and the screen was this weird material and if u sat too close it was blurry. Huge pieces of furniture lol
I didn’t get a flat screen till 2012 I know what you’re saying because like £400 my new one I just bought cost £600 LOL I remember when DVD players cost that much on their own I’m 27 lol
I agree... but that means first things have to be made to be repairable. I've been in the car biz for 35 years and its the same thing. Can't fix them, and when the proprietary electronics for them are no longer available, they're useless. Even if the mechanical side of it is OK. How "green" is it if you gotta throw all this stuff away in a few years? I still drive a 27 year old truck. It's fine. I can deal with it.
This was the theory I had about printers and why so many of them just randomly crap the bed. If they sold printers that worked in the long run they'd be out of business.
The other day my mom got rid of a big square TV that she literally had for more than 20 years, it was still in use and she only threw it because it finally went bad so there was no point in keeping it, still it was a little sad cause I'm 30 now and that was the same TV that I used to watch cartoons on all day and play Super Nintendo when I came back from school in the late 90s and early 00s, so many hours watching mostly Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon, good times.
Ive a 40" whatever the rest of the numbers and letters are 😂😂 Its 4 or 5 years old and my old 32" lg that I bought in 2009/10 is way better for playing Xbox 50hz and 60hz options 1080i or p.
So its actually possible but it'd need a lot of work and money behind it. You could re-wire and rebuild older cars and convert those older cars to H2 fuel. It takes effort and a good few thousand dollars for the fuel tank conversion and other processes. But if these cars were updated with new tech like seat belts, airbags and fixed the kinks with H2 conversion: People could rock the older style cars like (classic mustangs and jeeps) while keeping that internal combustion engine sound, updated safety features, and using a comparatively efficient fuel. Two biggest problems are hydrogen tanks need to be T H I C K and Nitrogen Oxide would still be a problem (because nitrogen burned from natural air). But those can both be looked into.
And if the science and processes could be nearly perfected, you could make a big market out of recycling and remaking H2 converted Classic cars. I think its a concept with some potential too it. Anyone interested should check out Scotty Kilmer's videos on hydrogen cars
I get a new phone every six years, a car every 10, and girlfriend every 2. I don't even do that because of global warming or whatever, I just think it's a waste of money to impress a bunch of people that were their parent's accident 🤣
In most progressive minded cities there are facilities for recycling of electronic products and others which many residents do not know about it just takes a search.

Apple wants to put gadgets at every part of your body. Recent one is apple watch. Right now they are working on apple glass.
When they say TV they don't mean the damn device, they mean the damn service.

Fixing is primarily from forced need. When funds are available time can be spent building more financial strength.
