Without context I'd say that is a line from a comedy starring Leslie Nielsen
That's not what he said
Damn I just looked for this comment
I'm too stupid to understand the paperwork so I'm just gonna write you a ticket instead. "Don't think, that's when people get into trouble, when they think" Sounds like the cop really took his own advice.
Oh come on, if it looks completely different from anything you ever encountered in your life, and the person is not telling you what the info is, how is that stupidity?
Cops these days are such filthy pigs that they say I don’t know if you broke the law I’m gonna arrest you anyway in case you didn’t break the law. That’s fascism.
@@VeraxMusic I don't always encounter people who are different than myself, but I still try to be polite and accommodate them. That cop could have exercised more patience. He's just rude and impatient and when men start acting like that with each other, things can go south quickly, so one man, the so-called professional, should try his best to actually be professional so things go a little more smoothly.
“Don’t think” should be the American slogan
@@VeraxMusic That can't be the first time that he's pulled over a tourist from a different country in a state that gets a lot of tourism. It's odd for him to think that tourists need California driver's licenses.

When they say “you need to have a CA driver’s license to drive in CA” that would imply that any out of state driver would be committing a crime
The cops are confused by vehicle code 12505. If you permanently MOVED to California, you have 10 days to get a CA driver's license. Doesn't apply if you are only in CA temporarily.
I am going to assume that what the officer actually meant when he said that was that if you are a resident of California you need to have a CA drivers license. But he did not word it well. I think he left off half a sentence. Would have made more sense if he'd said "You need to have a CA driver's license to drive in CA if you are a permanent lawful resident of CA."
Of course any half intelligent person could probably have guessed/inferred that's what he was thinking and that's what he meant if they chose to and weren't just trying to give the officer a hard time. But yeah...words do matter and the officer should have said that explicitly if that's what he really meant.
@@bighurtt why would the cop assume the guy with a canadian license and canadian passport had moved to california more than 10 days ago?
@@packerken I don't know and don't really care. Maybe the cop is not that smart. Neither, apparently, are most of us commenting on this thread. Thankfully, that isn't a crime either. We can't all be Einstein. What concerns me more is why does this guy keep getting pulled over so much? How come he has so many videos on his channel about him having run ins with cops? And why does he keep coming to the US to do it? All he's doing is baiting or entrapping the cops into these situations so he can film them to have rage content for his crap channel. This in and of itself should be a crime IMO and they should deny him entry into the US in the future if he is going to keep wasting our cops time and our tax dollars like this. Anybody who gets pulled over as much as this guy seems to has got something seriously wrong or else has some kind of agenda. What he's doing seems a little bit like entrapment to me. Only the other way around. There's a reason why entrapment is illegal because it incites events that would not have otherwise naturally occurred on their own. And that's what this man is doing solely for sensationalism and RUclips channel content for his own private monetary gain. It's just like I can't go around pulling fire alarms and having the fire department show up again and again when there is no actual fire just so I can take it upon myself to "test their response time" and then record it and pick apart the fire fighters on social media. Try it yourself sometime. You aren't gonna like how it turns out for you. That's what this dude obviously doing, except to the police rather than the fire department. Why is that OK? NOBODY gets pulled over this much...or if they do, why DO they still have a license come to think of it? And how is it that every one of their interactions ends up on his RUclips with a clickbait title on it? If we want to be so condescending and snide to the public servants who have to put up with first-rate a$$h0l3s like this, let us turn our own brains on first.
I'm a truck driver who come in and out several states. What law is that?
“Don’t think” said the officer, then proceeds to show that he rigorously follows his own advice.
😂
He's no hypocrite, have to give him credit for that.
By "Don't think" he meant, "Don't assume."
The guy at the beginning handed a piece of paper to the officer ASSUMING that was his insurance, which it wasn't. The cop asked about it, and the driver claimed FIVE TIMES that "Oh that's it, right there. That's the insurance." The cop kept asking over and over to help point it out, but the driver's only response was, "Oh It's all there. Find it yourself." It wasn't until the officer threatened a citation was when the driver pulled out a different paper.
Other than that, of course it's stupid to require a CA license when they have already have their country's license.
@@JohnSmith-ce6gr It's always funny seeing someone change what was said then argue that point. FYI it's called a Strawman argument. You are what's wrong the world.
@@justsomeguy6474 How did I change anything? The driver took what the cop said completely the wrong way and I was explaining what he was ACTUALLY saying. Your reading comprehension is what's wrong with the world.
It's simply shocking that officers will say such idiotic things like "don't think" or "You need a California license to drive in California. "
Yet when caught without one it's only a ticket or a verbal warning depending on the officer. Most likely this one would tow and arrest you for multiple charges.
I actually had an officer tell me I wasn't allowed to drive through Houston Texas if I didn't live in Houston. He wanted to write me an incorrect address ticket and refused to accept that my actual address for a suburb city of Houston was going to get in his way of doing just that.
Obviously, he didn't show up to the court hearing to have that story told and the ticket was dismissed.

Still amazes me how police officers can not know that the US and Canada recognizes each country’s driver licenses if the license is current and good in the country they are licensed in
To be fair they have no way to confirm the license is “good” aka has not been suspended, all they can tell is that you own the card and if it’s expired.
That’s not to say these cops are in the right, it’s pointing out a fundamental lack of a police resource to verify you are legal to drive. As they have no way to prove the DL is current, they are SUPPOSE to assume it is and chalk up the lack of confirmation to lack of resources.

I remember getting a ticket for stalling at a red when I was learning stick. Still remember what the cop said, "If you're gonna stall then don't drive stick." I fought the ticket and won, didn't pay a dime.
On this chanel they used to have an automatic McLaren MP4 and the car took like 2-3 seconds to get in gear and they got a ticket.
Wow what an asshole cop. I remember how stressful it was for me to learn stick and randomly stall while driving. Can't imagine how frustrating it would be for some other driver (aka cop) to criticize me while im stressing out over it.
@@ShiloBuff too be fair, if you dont know how to drive it youre putting yourself and others on the road at risk

It's a symptom of policing standards. They have to hit numbers so they escalate situations so they get better arrests and bigger numbers. Exactly the opposite of how policing should work.

No, it was disrespectful/ It is obvious that the cop was referring to the class number not the fact that t was a motorcycle permit.

I think (no pun intended) that the officer means “dont assume, assumption is what gets ppl in trouble” but his wording was as bad as his temper. Super unprofessional.
I took the “don’t think” as a reference to knowing something versus thinking something.
I had a cop once tell me that I had too many principles because I refused to let me search me.
Yeah, people need to answer straight, immediately, honest and clearly. When people start thinking they start saying shit like "i dont need a california license" or "this is my uncles car" or "these are my friends jeans i dont know where those drugs came from". "Don't Think" is one of those phrases that doesn't truly mean what it literally means. It's more of a short hand way of saying thinking something is correct isn't sufficient when knowing something is correct is needed.

Unfortunately, only 4% of Mexican-Americans have a college degree in the U.S. (compared to about double that being the national average). Furthermore, I believe it is quite rare for police officers to have bachelor's degrees as well. I once saw 3 cops in a gas station, and two of them were making fun of the other cop for going to college for a year prior to becoming an officer. He was embarrassed which blew my mind.

My mother got an international licence from ADAC (Germany car safety thing) so she could drive with her german licence in the US. She and my dad where there about a month and the International licence is valid for three. They wanted to visit a friend of ours in miami, but got pulled over. A cop gave her a ticket and seized the car, calling the company she got it from. They left them stranded in the middle of miami where neither if them could look up where they could go.
