Love how "ignorance of the law isn't an excuse" for citizens, but as long as it's an "honest mistake" for an officer, ignorance gets them qualified immunity. Gotta love it
If I could like this 100 times I would lol
As it should.
"Ignorance of the law is no excuse" applies first to public officials. ESPECIALLY for law enforcement. They're our servants. We have reserved powers under the 10th Amendment and can do checks and balances individually as such. This is a BIG part of why we have the 2nd Amendment.
I was gonna post that, but I’m glad there’s people in here that agree. This shit is ridiculous.

Your profile pic intimidates me
Most Canadians know more than an American cop on any subject. Cops are not known for having IQ’s or picking up on human social cues.
It isn’t hard to know more than an American cop. I think its and intentional qualification to shield themselves from legal aspects coming back at them. Also less like to hire someone who will rat out the department for their corruption.
Affirmative action hire.
We have to because it’s been a routine practice of American police to hunt migrating Canadian motorists on the I75 and I90 for decades. It’s also routine that they make laws up on the fly to take advantage of us. Recently, one in (Carolina I believe) arrested and jailed a young woman because he didn’t know how to read an Ontario auto ownership document. They know we won’t sue because we won’t go back and forth between home and the States for court. Your police in the states are more ignorant and criminal than any in the world. And we all know it.
when Canadians know more about laws then Beverly Hills police, you know there are FAR bigger issues at that department. DDE is a beast :)

Because police get away with whatever they want
He knew not to push that with them both having video evidence it didn't happen.
Jealousy is one hell of a drug.
Well done dude!
Agree with all the points made! One thing which would have been ‘nice’ would have been the inclusion of the dash cam video footage of the Stop Sign incident, up until the Officer requested drivers license & registration details. I mean; the driver had the footage, so it wouldn’t have been difficult to include it...
Police officer should be tested for comprehension.
If tests like that actually existed more than 2/3rd's would fail. Throw in a physical test and 90% would fail. There would be almost no cops. Not saying that's a bad thing.

That cop cannot truly believe all tourists should pass a Californian driving test to drive in his state
Imagine paying at least 2000 euros and going through the much Harder training of getting a European drivers license Just to be told "you need a californian drivers license"
Absolutely baffling! I visit the US regularly and drive legally with my UK driving licence. Does that officer actually believe that I need to get a driving licence in each and every state I visit? Good job he doesn’t patrol near the airport!
Yeah when I went to UK, Scotland, and Ireland they all honored the USA driver's liscense (I think even Wales does), and it's well known that Canada has closer relations with USA regarding visitors, so yeah, officer was either mentally challenged or playing dumb out of jealousy.
Imagine if vsitors to another country actually had to pass a driver's ed course in that country before renting a car. A 3 hour drive to the beach would require a 2 week stay, all taken up by classes! THEN you can drive to Tesco for beer and snacks. LMAO.
Lol His State 😅
I mean you literally couldn't, you would have to gain us citizenship and residence in California first, the cop is saying in full seriousness that it is a crime for anyone living in any other state than California or any other country than America to drive a vehicle in California, theres a similar video of the same thing of a Turkish driver in Florida being illegally arrested from a criminal wearing a badge and driving a cop car what should be illegally
It's funny how "running a stop sign" was never mentioned again after the driver said he has a camera...
I wonder how many other drivers were cited by "running a stop sign" by this officer. It seemed like his go to favourite.
Probably not a lot. Unless they also drive a supercar lol
I've seen cops pull people over for'to close to the center line' in big trucks and 'tag illumination'. Both of these are completely subjective and give the cops a license to go fishing.

"Canadian drivers license is recognized by all 50 states as being valid..." I just don't understand how the cop didn't know this.
The fact that he said “you need a California drivers license to drive in California” said it all. I’ve certainly never heard of a state only permitting people to drive if they have a state specific drivers license, and I’m a private citizen… you’d think LEO is more informed and trained but time and time again, they show that’s not the case.
Except the State of Georgia, apparently…!

@@McFeedback1968 Paul, no it doesn’t. Your generalization isn’t accurate. Plenty of morons go thru the same schooling that smart individuals go thru. And blaming someone for not knowing what this cop didn’t know, that isn’t taught in school (widely, as you claim, “American education system”) is bland and just plain wrong. It should be generally known to anyone who has gotten a license, that their license is valid in all states, but they definitely don’t make note of what international drivers need unless, you’re an international driver whom educates themselves or is otherwise specifically taught about it. Point being, wrong.
I would say: “Jealousy “ is the motivating factor. This officer has an overblown ego to boot. This law enforcement officer is a danger to all he will come in contact with.
I thought the same thing. He was jealous and wanted to just make the owner miserable. People with power get corrupt quick.
I agree he was mad he had such a great car lol
Yeah, this particular officer has many, on video, mis behavings. He needs to be straight up fired.
Jealousy for what? people who bust their asses and do without other luxuries to own a gorgeous car earned that privilege. That's a lot of sacrifice to afford a ghini. It scares me SO much that if Canada seen how our cops treat their citizens, they would decide to treat our visitors to Canada with that same energy.
Having a dashcam recorder has an amazing affect. Funny how the cop never discussed the alleged stop sign violation, which was the reason for the traffic stop.
IKR officer even said he had camera footage of him blowing the stop sign...if that was so I'm pretty sure he'd given him the citation.

Qualified Immunity should only be applicable if the officer is qualified

If i can go to jail for an "honest mistake" then those with the government given training for those situations should be held accountable for all actions
To the fullest extend of the law, police should be held to a way higher standard than citizens
I understand it to an extent, but not when it is easy for them to verify themselves. Call back to dispatch and see.
They accept that they will never really hold themselves accountable for their actions that has to be done unfortunately by the citizens but we have layers and layers of protections to have to go through in order to get to them through the judicial system. They have an unlimited checkbook because they can just keep going deeper into debt.
It utterly amazes me how people continue to want to give the government more power, and more control while at the same time complaining about the government constantly. " Here PIGGY" PIG IS JUST MAD THAT HE CANT OWN ONE 😂😂
Police give tickets they know won’t stand up. It’s either going to be a hassle to fight in court or you can just pay the fine. A tourist is likely to just pay the fine instead of returning to appear in court.
This falls under, “You can beat the rap but you can’t beat the ride.”
That's why they give out of country or state tickets, hoping they don't fight it.
@Jean-Guy Rubberboot I don't believe tourists can do that if they ever want to come back. If they have any black mark, the visa will be refused next time to enter the US. We can't even complain about the TSA, because they will black list us.
Cops know a tourist won't come back to fight it in court and will just pay it.
@Jean-Guy Rubberboot that works well until your home state or country gets the arrest warrant. Then you get thrown in jail repeatedly until you pay or show up. If you are from another country, you'd better REALLY enjoy your visit to the US because that will be your last one if you skip on the ticket. You will be arrested and the border and expelled.
That's why cops love giving tickets to tourists. It is cheaper to pay the fines rather than make a second, third, fourth, and even more trips to fight the tickets. Nice extortion racket.
@Jean-Guy Rubberboot in the US all arrest warrants are in a national database available to police with a few keystrokes on their computers. If you have a warrant, they will arrest you and then the state that issued the warrant has 21 days to extradite you. Meanwhile, you sit in jail with no bail. If they don't come for you, you're released..........until the next time you're pulled over. Then it's back to jail for 21 days until they don't come for you again. Know too many people that got stuck on that merry-go-round.
This cop is simply running under the “you may beat the rap, but you won’t beat the ride” attitude. He knows he can bully people and it’s nothing more than an inconvenience for the driver unless they push it, then he’ll do what he wants under the assumption of qualified immunity!!
