❤ right there. Cops in wrong.
From another video, this whole thing was apparently the cops literally trying to find a scapegoat to avoid blame, because the person being in a coma ended up that way in a car accident caused during a police chase where the person they were chasing crashed into the dude and the car blew up. They were trying to accuse him of being intoxicated to make the claim that, because of that, he was responsible for the crash, not the cops messing up the chase, then that led to this. Just to give you more insight on how corrupt departments can be.

Bravo to that nurse and hospital for not allowing these corrupt cops to bully them into breaking federal law.
Tell the officer that he either gets a warrant or they will have HIM arrested tor trespassing.
Notice how quick they turned on each other when shit hit the fan
The nurse was only doing what she was told. she was not an individual but an agent of the hospital. Arresting her would not get the LEO the blood. The order has to come from someone above her. Nurses are not allowed to draw blood with out a doctors order. When given the standards that the police gave then one when blood can be draw. Exigent circumstance was on the legal document. When the watch commander was told this. He should of order a warrant to be . . . oh wait they don't have probable cause. SO they have no rights for the blood.
I disagree with you about the hospital because I has seen a similar situation and the hospital protected the nurse. The hospital lawyers, higher ups, and security was on scene to protect the nurse but this hospital higher up was talking through the phone. That this why they, the hospital, and the police department with her

At 6:36 the backup officer asked, "Why don't we just get a search warrant?" The 1/2 million dollar question of the day! By this point in the medical evaluation and treatment, the hospital had already drawn the blood sample. It is part of the medical record. If they had Probable Cause, any Judge would have granted them a search warrant. The original blood draw would be enough to use in court, they did not need to do a fresh draw. In fact, the blood draw that the officer was trying to get would have resulted in a LOWER blood alcohol content that the hospital's original draw. My bigger question is, how can they charge an individual with refusing to perform the blood draw when they don't have the authority to force someone to perform it. Even with a warrant, she, personally, can't be held accountable and forced to perform the draw. The responding Supervisor was clueless.
I heard him respond to that question that they didn't have "PC."

If hes been violating the rights of citizens for 20 years, shouldn't they investigate this?
Being a victim of a car crash is not exigent circumstances. Nurse Wobbles is not required to help with what ever investigation this cop thinks he’s performing. Doing nothing is not interference. Is he going to arrest every nurse in the hospital who refuses him? Then he endangers other patients by taking away a charge nurse.
Imagine how many rights were violated by that “cop” over the last 22 years.
He's not a cop, he's an SS soldier of the American Gestapo

To: Sister Wobbles,
At the core, it's heartbreaking and maddening to say the least!!.
Growing up with Nurses like my Mom, Aunt and 2 Cousins whom are a GP and anesthesiologist respectfully, gave me a glimpse and have seen eiter first hand or being present as a third party when my mom or Cousin was on duty especially in triage as Head of Nursing. I also have to state for the intention of this comment that she works at a Military Hospital.
I showed her this and she forwarded this video to her Commanding Office and stated that in our country aswell as other countries in the world, when military Health Care Staff of any of the three main (military) hospitals, police can get escorted either peacfully or with force from the property by means of Military Police.
So my hypothetical question is....What would have been the outcome if this was a State and or Military and or a temporary healthcare institution per instruction for the said branch?
Anyways, the fact also remains that in a day and age of women and child abuse, it is this seen as unappropriate behavior from a peace officer to the extent that it leads to the court? What did this accomplish? People that we place our lives in for care either general or urgent, even when unconsiously gets harrased due to internal policies that are in place for the sole purpose of not being met with any form of litigation based on several applicable laws....and this is just under the UN....
May you be infinitly blessed Sister Wobbles. Please know that you are loved by people whom do not know you and you don't know us, but solely from you CHARACTER made us initally angry and immediatly back to utter sadness.
You are doing a job very little people want to even do and for that, myself and 145 healthcare professionals who saw this today, wish you and your collegues all the best and please continue the work you all do for those whom place their LIVES in your hands.

I am of the mind that these kinds of cases should be treated like child support is treated in the US. Base it on what we know the person is capable of making. If you made 50K per year, you need to pay at least half, if not more, toward what is owed on the lawsuit. If you can make 50K, but voluntarily choose to take a lower-paying job, you should have to pay the same amount, regardless. A refusal to pay will result in a seizure of assets, and potential jail time. In addition, the debt owed to the individual should be treated like a student loan in that it does not go away by declaring bankruptcy. The taxpayers should DEFINITELY not be the ones who have to pay for the poor decisions made by officers.
His entire pension and every cop's involved in lawsuits if they get one, should go to the victims.

dude that was the biggest retard fight, the cop blames the lieutenant, the lieutenant blames the cop, under the bus they both go!
This nurse and many like her are guardian angels. I want her and alike if ever I’m ever in that injured victim position. Bravo
And an A+ to the Chief Of Police. Credit where credit is due
She is a legend in the nursing world. Nursing schools use this case as an example of "advocating for your patient" as a Registered Nurse.
Legendary!!!
She truly is a hero! In many many ways I'm sure. These two cops give good cops a bad name. Both fired for not knowing our rights
Wow thats great
She is also super bangable.
That’s so good to hear. She was incredibly brave this entire exchange and I’m not surprised she’s a role model
As she should be.
It's amazing that she literally read them the hospitals' DCO agreement with the Salt Lake PD and they STILL tried to say she was wrong.
@jth086 All because detective payne’s ego has blinded him from realizing that.
Yea.. It did not even give him a hint! Mind boggling!
The cops request should have ended right there when she read that paper to them that was the agreement between the hospital and the police. I come in the hospital and the nurse they did an outstanding job those two police however should be in the unemployment line neither one of them deserve to even be in any kind of law enforcement. I doubt if they could even make it as a security officers
She is my number one patient advocate of the year....maybe decade!
This nurse should be the poster child of excellent nursing care and patient advocate. It's not always just about physical nursing care but standing firm for your patient. My daughter is a charge nurse I pray she would be able to emulate Nurse Wubbels in the face of such condescending and aggressive confrontation. Im sure she will though after seeing this. These 2 people should never have been allowed to remain in law enforcement.
I remember this. They were pushing for the toxicology information because there was another law enforcement officer involved in the accident.
Great commentary, like always.

Politicians and many other local, state and federal workers are also known as 'civil servants'.
I used to be a contractor to NASA a few decades ago. I worked for 'civil servants' What I witnessed in just 5 years was just a drop in the bucket regarding government corruption. I resigned on account of petty political BS, but my actual work was actually fascinating, even fun. The corruption has been going on for much, much longer. How is this not clear to average citizens?
I believe that at the very least it's highly likely that the majority of 'civil servants' fail to understand the definition of that term, much less the meaning of either of those two words! The term in and of itself is really ironic.
The sad part is that these settlements are most likely paid ultimately by taxpayers. These incompetent cops should pay out of their retirement benefits and or personal assets.

Absolutely commend this nurse for standing her ground and protecting an unconscious patient and keeping her cool by having evidence to present to the law enforcement officials and didnt react until the officer grabbed her for an arrest. The worst part of all this: the one officer asked Det. Payne why he doesn't get a search warrant. Det., replied they didn't have the "probable cause." Man...that shoulda been a "clue" to all involved.
Did you also hear him try and claim the blood draw would somehow "also protect" the patient? Yeah cause trying to find evidence that the victim is somehow at fault really protects people. SMH total scumbag officer.
Exactly,. And because he didn't, he is every bit as guilty as cop and Lt. It shows the lack of training, twisted knowledge of job description and corrupted professional integrity. This runs uphill to the entire chain of command.
Yep. Exigent circumstances require probable cause to be present. He was just ignorant of how the law works, it's scary how many police officers don't know the law.

Sounds like the cop was determined to make an arrest, you can hear the excitement in his voice.
This drives me crazy because I’ve had similar things happen to me. Not only was the judge, corrupt but the probation, office cops, etc. all lied.
" I'm either leaving with blood in vials or a body in tow" is one of the most tyrannical sentences I have ever heard. Standing ovation for that nurse for standing up to these petty tyrants when most others would have caved with the threat of arrest. This cop thinks that just wanting something is "exigent circumstances."
“…body in tow…” does nothing but make it clear that they do not view this innocent nurse as a human being. She’s nothing more than a “body”. And, SHE isn’t the one refusing the blood draw. The refusal is at the behest of the facility where she just happens to be working. These imbecilic LEOs aren’t even “targeting” the right people by trying to arrest this woman. It would be like being told to leave a movie theatre by the owner, and then turning around and punching the janitor in the face. You don’t take out your frustrations with someone who has no control over the situation whatsoever. This whole situation is miles away from appropriate conduct and is just a hugely unnecessary display of incompetence and sheer stupidity.

Something being overlooked is that any evidence gathered unlawfully is inadmissible in court. The officer could have simply gotten a warrant or placed the patient under arrest. The reason the officers did not place the patient under arrest is that there was no probable cause. If there was no probable cause to arrest, there is no probable cause to take the patient’s blood. The patient was not responsible for the crash, he was the innocent victim.

Just as a follow up to this incase anyone was wondering, some of this is covered in the video:
The arresting officer, Jeff Payne was fired.
The supervisor, James Tracy, was demoted two ranks back to Patrol officer after appeal.
The nurse, Alex Wubbels, reached a settlement for $500,000. As of January 2024 her LinkedIn profile shows her as still working for the University of Utah as a registered nurse.
Who the hell thinks they can demand someone to take a blood sample under the threat of arrest? Get your jail nurse or Dr. to do so.
This is just so sad and dispicable that this POS cop thinks he has the authority to do so.
Glad to see common sense prevailed in te end.

This is why cops need constant oversight. Anyone who wants power shouldn't have it. And all cops are power addicted.
You tell almost any cop no and they'll act like this. They're soooo used to people bending over and kissing their a$$es that when someone doesn't it doesn't compute to them and they don't know what to do.
