Does it actually not exist though? The fact they can create a temporary California license for a Canadian would seem to indicate that they might also be able to create a permanent one also? They have to charge you on something, there has to be some sort of actual law in order for a citation to be issued and it be deemed valid in a court of law? We need an actual attorney, one based in California to weigh in on this. Based on the fact he spends about 80% of his time in the USA and not Canada, I'm not sure he's as exempt from our laws and rules as he thinks he is.

The updates that normal users are using now work almost perfectly and are more safe than most drivers on the roads today. If it says it is doing 25, it is doing 25. There are multiple ways the car checks the speed and if they don't match it won't let you drive the car and you will have to get your electronics fixed or recalibrated. Having an inaccurate speedometer is incredibly dangerous so Tesla wants to keep the users safe

You're absolutely incorrect. While on duty, if there's no emergency, officers are held accountable to the same laws as everybody else. The laws are not only applicable to certain citizens and not others. The sad reality is that the supreme courts have ruled it lawful for officers to lie to civilians, hence gullible civilians, such as yourself believe that laws don't apply to officers. Do yourself a gigantic favor, and educate yourself on the tyrants that call themselves officers. They are not exempt from the laws.

Tow Truck driver will ruin your car.
Worked for tow companies 25 years ago and damaged cars almost daily. Your options when a tow truck damages your car is to go in front of a "Tow Board"...which gets to determine if the tow company actually damaged your car. Of course all of the members of the tow board are "Owners" of the tow truck companies for that area. So the other tow truck owners vote if damage occured. Very rarely was it the tow truck drivers fault. Recently had my girlfriend's Mercedes CLS550 towed when I was out of town. When I got back in town I noticed the wheels were pigeon towed....The tow truck driver bent all four of the lower control arms.
Never have a tow truck driver hook up or deliver or drop your car anywhere without you recording the entire event for your protection.

So they convicted you of an infraction that doesn't actually exist on the books and then issued you a temporary license so they could suspend it in order to give themselves cause/justification for the initial charge, and then they fine you for a failure to appear for a court date you didn't even know was scheduled based on your understanding of the initial charge being dismissed? Maaaaaan, that sounds super shady! That must also mean the DA's office is trying everything they can to work with the BHPD to get you banned from driving. I'd recommend hiring an attorney and filing a lawsuit against the City as well as the BHPD department. I typically support law enforcement 100% but this genuinely seems like you're being targeted.

Wait a minute. The California courthouse labeled you as Failure to Appear and then told the California DMV to create a temporary California driver’s license and that invalidates your Canadian driver’s license and is labeled Suspended.
No. None of this makes sense. And that’s not how it works. You need to get in contact with your Canadian consulate and make them aware of this situation. The Canadian embassy will literally hammer these knuckleheads in their place. Gross violation of basic human rights and decency. No country let alone a state like California is allowed to “create temporary anything to a foreign citizen who’s vacationing in the US”.

The speed I understood that sometimes the computer system is not always correct it happened with my mom when i was with her and same thing happened lisence was suspended and that made no sense because she payed her ticket off. So the only thing you can do is go to court and bring paperwork and the charge is off. Its a pain in the ass but at the end of the day they are just doing what their system is telling them.

For those that may not know, you can indeed have a suspended license even if you have never had one for that state. For example, if you are stopped in a state without a license for that state or fail to pay a citation, or commit an offense that would or could suspend a license the state will generate a driver's license number for you and list your license as suspended. so if a 14 y/o is stopped driving a car the state will generate a license number for the juvenile and list it as suspended for the offense even though that juvenile has never obtained a driver's license. this is how most states work.

I just recently got pulled over for something super similar, me and 4 cars including a cop were driving together in a pack and the cop braked and got behind me and pulled me over for speeding. Long story short it was like 30 over and I took it to court and it got dismissed because he lied on the ticket saying he got me on a radar gun. Some cops are a bit ridiculous, most that I’ve been pulled over by or talked to are usually super nice and knowledgeable but some……

Well it’s so sadly common but true that most cops barely know more about the law than average literate people. Often it’s the ppl who run into these situations with Officer “overly generalized vague scripted reason” that are forced to then learn the legal nuances and even make damn sure all their shits current... for example: I’ve been pulled over and harassed for “an excessively loud stereo/ noise violation” usually as a convenient excuse to snoop around or just released with a warning. however I couldn’t find any specific ordinance for this and further confirmed asking a local cop online in Starbucks... who said there’s no law he’s aware of and even so wouldn’t bother stopping someone just for that. So I thanked him for his honesty and tested it a few mins later when I happened to be thoroughly enjoying a song while behind him waiting to exit lol. We both smirked and carried on :)

He doesn’t. The cops had every right to tow his vehicle and do everything they did. Their system was showing that his license was suspended. They are required by law to 1. Get the car off the road before someone hits it (which happens a lot more often than most people would think) 2. Be sure the person with the suspended license isnt doing anything he isn’t supposed to be doing such as driving. The ticket that was in “limbo mode” that he wasn’t aware of is complete bs. The court system would make him very aware of what is happening especially because he is from a different country. And to all of the people in the comments saying cops are pigs, stfu. Yah there is the occasional douchebag cop and whatnot, but that does not in any way relate to all cops. You people were probably caught doing something you shouldn’t have been doing and penalized for it so you got salty and decided that all cops are bad pigs that are spreading hogwash.
