Law clearly states that Canada and U.S. have a treaty for our licenses being valid also in America. If not, why wouldn’t they ask for your international driver’s license when driving across the border or before renting cars in America?

You can drive up to 6 months on foreign license as a tourist from most countries and you need International drivers PERMIT if you are staying legally in the USA for more than 6 months and up to 1 year. After that you need local driving license that you can obtain based on your existing license or have to pass the written test and/or driving test depending what country you’re from.

Good Lord. I have to do a double take on that officer's statement. "Where's your California license?".....he actually said this on camera to a Canadian citizen visiting America. Wow. I'm dumbfounded. And the icing on the cake, he actually cited a sworn citation to a foreign national for not having an American California license. So he lied on a sworn citation. Edit: While yes a Canadian license is valid in the US, you are still subject to provide some other identification alongside that, or get an international license and not have to deal with that. The officer was still in the wrong however

I am a vehicle Inspector for the State of New Jersey and as long as the driver has a valid license of some type it is considered legal

One time my husband and his partner stopped a car that turned left on a red light. The street she was turning on to changed from a two way to a one way street. Cop pulled me over giving me much attitude. I gave him attitude back. He got me out the car and asked me what my issue was. I asked him what have I don't in our 2 min interaction that would justify him talking to me like that and why wouldn't I be pissed for being treated that why. He looked at me and said
"you're right. I'm sorry." he gave me a ticket for my tail light. A week later I checked the status for a court date. He never put it into the system. 👍🏽🤘🏽

My family and I go to Tennessee sometimes and the person driving the vehicle has a Kentucky driver’s license. If we get pulled over, we are legally driving.
