Brilliant. Thank you for the amazing tip. I've used SD for so long and never even thought about trying it. Seems straightforward enough and the results with a few tweaks are spot on!
because most drums are being done from home studios these days i use SD3 (and its various libraries) to utilize their room sounds (ie OH and ROOM MICS). The trick is to be sure to tune the SD3 drums to the same as your source drums to avoid the weird overtones. But you're able to take uneventful sounding drums and put them into some pretty amazing sounding rooms this way.
Whitesnake here i go again - drum cover by Kalonica Nicx - ruclips.net/video/BwAIhJUnbcE/видео.html - Whitesnake - Here I Go Again - Modified MIDI BACKGROUND. I would like to point out one very important thing, I didn't do any real mixing, but I limited myself to correcting all the notes of the midi, and adjusting the volumes of each sound, leaving the original reverbs and delays of each sound intact, clearly I replaced some sounds, with the Kontakt, Ample Sound and Toontrack libraries for drums, leaving the sounds almost unchanged, using only a minimum of equalization. I did the mixing on headphones with an AKG K240 MKII.
Very useful tip. I have Addictive Drums because I found the name funny and it was cheaper than Superior Drummer - but it seems like there are a lot more useful features on SD3.
James would you consider doing a segment on percussive instruments such as cajons, etc that could be used anyone with a little bit of rythem? I have purchased a cajon for my wife and friends to use to play along with my guitar. I get a decent snare and bass out of the cajon but what else can be used to layer or just add something interesting to the mix. Thanks.
Why not just use trigger 2? You can blend the triggered sample and original snare within one file. Unless you specifically want a snare from SD3 library, this is a pretty cumbersome way to do it.
you van use trigger 2, but it has no where near the possibilities of SD3. Especially the ambient mics are world class. If you are used to using the tracker it takes only a few minutes btw. But again: yes, for the quick solution trigger 2 is fine!
hehe.. and you are right.. but sometimes its the only way. If you do the recording your self and have all the time you need, then off course: record it properly with a good drummer. Sadly that is not always what you get as an engineer/producer/mixer. I wish it was not so!
The dude that mixed and mastered my latest music also used samples on my recordings and i somewhat felt robbed of the sound i created. It feels like cheating to just lay samples over recorded drums

Bro, I thought your were Dustin Hoffman in the thumbnail! Like, the goat doing drums tutorials? Instant click! lol
This is exactly why mixing and mastering of ANY track is ALWAYS important!
My eldest son plays drums, sent him the link. I’m sure he will find it useful.
Excellent video as always.🎸🎸
Thanks Dave.

SD3 Is amazing, but sadly, amazing costs!

Welcome to the real world. Catch up.
It’s a means to an end. Doesn’t matter how you make it sound how you want it to. The end result is all that matters.
Hah - I can make great drums sound absolute shite in 5 SECONDS!! 😁
We have all been there.
