  • This version of the opening credits was the second time the show used brief clips from the show to credit the main cast. This is one of many versions of the season 6 opening credits. You couldn’t tell by looking at it but in the first version (which only airs with the first episode of season 6, Florida’s homecoming) the clips used for Ben Powers and Ja’net Dubois are swapped. Also at the end of theme, you can see the camera zoom into the apartment building then into the living room showing a painting (the sugar shack by Ernie Barnes.) In another version is a family portrait which match cuts into the same picture but in real life.

Ernie Barnes "Sugar Shack" painting featured in the opening and closing credits sold for $15.2 million! Marvin Gaye had the original painting augmented for his "I Want You" album, so Ernie Barnes painted a duplicate in 1976 "Good Times" made legendary.

@@davehoward22 The original has Marvin Gaye's album title banner, but the duplicate was made famous by "Good Times" is missing that "I Want You" banner. I wonder which one is truly worth the most.

They were all terrific, weren't they? BTW, Johnny Brown was also on "Laugh-In". He was supposed to play Lamont on "Sanford and Son" but couldn't get out of his "Laugh-In" contract, so they cast Demond Wilson as Lamont.

It's a damn shame bringing Florida back couldn't stop the show sliding in the ratings, but it was so wonderful having Esther Rolle return.

I think only John Amos could've saved it.

@@frankieseward8667 A proper reboot with the surviving actors, not that Netflix cartoon, starring John Amos would’ve been great. They could’ve done it like The Conners where Dan is still alive

The building shown at the start of the end credits 00:57 is the notorious Cabrini-Green public housing project on the north side of Chicago. Google it if you don't know the history and especially the poverty and violence of the area at the time.

The show was never the same without John Amos. Losing James hurt the show badly that 4th season. I understand why Esther left because she felt it was a horrible decision to kill off a powerful Black father figure, she never wanted to play a single mother who didn't have a strong father in the house. That said, I think Janet Jackson as Penny and Johnny Brown as Bookman helped the show stay afloat for two more seasons along with great character development for Willona. But I still think the show could've gone on much longer if James was still on the show.

Seasons 4-6 feel like a spinoff continuation rather than the same series as the James era seasons 1-3. Kinda like the present day there’s ’The Conners’, which is basically the same show as ‘Roseanne’ but without her in it
