It wasn’t until I came back to the states from living in Europe for 3 years that I started looking at it again, because I had soooooooooo many issues with digestion because of the difference in food quality and processing from the different countries.

Michelle, I suffer from an autoimmune illness that affects my GI tract and motility is a real problem which results in constipation. I've never found any laxatives to work gently except for psyllium husk powder which I take every day and is fantastic. I think, strangely, it is also recommended for diarrhoea. Thank you for your videos which are so informative

    • @michellephysio

      @
Miriam O'Neill this is challenging for you indeed! Yes psyllium is fantastic for both constipation and diarrhoea (it bulks the stool to stop bowel leakage), the only problem is that it can cause terrible gas and bloating so I always suggest starting it with caution. In next week's video I'll be talking about foods that soften the stool to choose and those to avoid with constipation, I hope this gives you some tips too. All the best to you Miriam!

@Francelle W my pleasure! Re probiotics I think they’re mostly hit and miss at the moment as we don’t really know which gut bacteria are lacking in our system. I hope the day comes that doctors can test this and prescribe appropriate probiotics on an individual basis. Meanwhile prebiotic foods that the system can tolerate may be the best approach - especially foods like cooked and cooked potato/rice high in starch that the system can tolerate. All the best!

IBS is a horrible thing to have that’s for sure.

Dear Patricia. Try hot, black coffee in the morning for constipation/also, surprisingly enough, chocolate, When I am constipated badly like for 2 days, I have some chocolate as in half a bar of chocolate or chocolate chips. Be careful though because too much will trigger diahrrea. The coffee/ chocolate remedy works for me, generally. Avoid eggs; they usually set of constipation. Also, for diahrrea, try mint peppermint patties to calm things down. I have also used pepto bismol or mylanta for diarrhea

      - Bilvadi churan (1tabkespoon after meal morning and after dinner)
      -kutajghanvati(2-2 tablets after meal)
      -chitrakadi vati( " " " ")
-kurtajharista syrup ( 4 tablespoon with equal amount of water two time after meal) it's good to cure loose motion and you can take ishabol instant of this if you have constipation.

I’ve had a few health issues pop up that tend to resolve themselves in times of lower stress. But they come back when my anxiety is worse.
It sounds like it could be worth talking to your doctor about it and letting them know you’re struggling.

Interestingly, I had something similar happen to me when I was eleven and twelve years old, which in hindsight seems obvious was stress related-parents divorcing, etcetera. Now I’m in my 70s, and it’s back! Btw, I am male, in case it matters and/or you were confused by the vague YT name I coined for myself. Thanks again!

@@michellephysio When I finally spoke to my doctor on the phone she asked me to precisely describe my symptoms. When I did so she told me to go to a hospital emergency department immediately. I did so. She might have saved my life. They discovered I had diverticulitis, an infection, a rupture in the wall of my colon, and an abscess on top of my bladder. I was in the hospital for eight days, on two different antibiotics via IV. But it worked! I am now at home and feeling much better, and gaining back my strength. First time I’ve ever had to be hospitalized. It was an ordeal, but the doctors and nurses were all fantastic! I just hope I can avoid a recurrence. Thanks for your advice.

I'm always scared of having a painful bowel movement, as I get constipated. I've just recovered from having Covid, and I think it's not helping matters, bowel-wise. Plus, last Monday, when I was finally clear of Covid, I got my period. So my body feels pretty wrecked right now. Then there's the psychological impact the constipation can have on people. Being clogged up can become a burden on our everyday lives. I'm trying my best. Just that sometimes I remember how much pain I was in, when I last passed a really heavy stool, so then because I remember how painful it was, it puts me off passing another stool, but I try not to think that it's going to be as painful as last time.
