"I feel like" is a phrase of delusion very often
feelings are essential part of understanding truth and wholeness of things, but, like thoughts, can be outright wrong and set you on a misguided way

I have a few thoughts to share on this, hope you'll find it interesting:
1.) Your whole family is adorable, I especially loved your daughter slamming Seth's writing skills, your son promising you to get peppersprayed (DON'T DO IT KID!) and your wife laughing at you for tripping over that goal.
2.) Interesting tidbit related to learning any skills, your wife saying she felt less confident after trying that stuff out is in line with the four-stages-of-competence-model used in psychology. Stage one is unconscious incompetence, being incompetent but not knowing you're incompetent, stage two is conscious incompetence, being incompetent but knowing it after trying, stage three is conscious competence, being fairly competent after training for a while but still having to think about all the individual steps, and stage four is unconscious competence, when you can do something well without having to think about it.
3.) Dudes getting peppersprayed is never a good idea. When they do it on purpose, part of me also thinks it's never not funny.
4.) Hang on to your wife. Her pepperspraying you on Christmas before her folks come over is one of the most I'll-always-have-your-back-moves I've ever seen.

This video is a pretty hardcore gift to your fans, we all thank you for doing it. I can understand about being hesitant to use the finger knife, it's a pretty extreme weapon to cut someone open with, regardless of their size. Mike's partner seems like a really cool and down-to-earth person, her common sense reminds me of my wife, it's always good to have a sane person to talk over ideas with when you're doing something insane. That's a really interesting conversation on conflict response: I was in a class about concealed permit, and the instructor set one of us up on a simulator where a bad guy comes into a room and starts attacking. The gal who had NRA Instructor training was zoned in, then when the attack started, she brought her hands to her face in an automatic defensive response instead of drawing on the guy. I am really curious how I would respond to such a conflict, although hopefully it's never a question that comes up!

My two cents, once I was preparing some very, very spicy peppers that left my hands burning for hours. I tried lots of things (oil, milk, ice water, etc.) and they all only provided momentary relief, as soon as I stopped it started burning again badly. The only thing that truly helped it get over with was very hot water and dish soap. Washing my hands and forearms for a few minutes this way really got rid of the pain

Assuming the active ingredient in pepper spray is capsaicin then milk makes sense as capsaicin is fat soluble. So theoretically the fats in milk should break down the capsaicin therefore neutralizing the irritation. I could be wrong.

The best treatment is 25% Dawn soap and 75% cold water. This is because pepper spray is oil based. The next best is 50/50 vinegar and cold water. Milk comes from people thinking pepper spray is an acid, but capsaicin actually isn't an acid. You're supposed to treat acids with a base. For some reason, we all grew up being told that milk is a base. It's actually a weak acid due to its lactic acid content. It's perfectly safe to put in your eyes if it's kept refrigerated, but it's dangerous when people use milk they've brought to protests or riots because it is prone to bacteria growth outside a fridge. A lot of movie stunt performers use milk in their eyes for underwater scenes. Waterpolo players have been known to use it as well.

The reason why people recommend milk, the "source", is because it helps with ingestion of hot chillies or peppers. It creates a barrier between the milk and digestive tracts.
But to get rid of it on a surface or in your case, your face, you would use a solvent or a soap to physically move the oil.

I love the authenticity of this, like all other RUclips channels cut out all of the argument and the processing, and script it all, and are overall “prepared”
And a 98% of the time it just makes it feel off, and makes the viewer feel disconnected imo.
Your wife arguing and asking why on Christmas, explaining how guests are coming and this isn’t a good idea.
It all feels relatable, and I appreciate that.

The knuckle ring is dorky for punching for sure. I AM kinda wondering why punching would be the first thought in using it though. A serrated blade is for sawing usually. I would probably default to putting my hand in place with an open hand strike of some sort and then sawing away on whatever I was in contact with. It's still lame, but I think I would trust sawing on something over impact not wrenching a knuckle out of joint.

There should be some studies on capsaicin, those will have related chemicals examined sometimes. However I couldn't find anything (in 10 minutes lol) focused on law enforcement which would be the goal. Issue is you mentioned Dawn which should do the trick for a vast number of possible chemicals versus milk which only has a few. Dawn is just as ubiquitous (cleaning supply). As usual, you're probably spot on with your assessment.

If by any chance you understand French or use a good youtube translator, i'm telling you this : YOU NEED to check Mickael Illouz work on RUclips (The're many videos on protegor channel or Karate Bushido ) He is actually the one i consider as the most realistic martial artist in the world. Always questioning himself and beliefs, AND OF COURSE tried a lot of "self defense stuff" in good situations putting himself sometimes in hard positions. (He litteraly tried to gas himself with many teargas)
Seing you both talking about your experiences would probably be the most entertaining martial art video we could see.
Btw : He also explained and showed how to use milk and imo, you definitly did it the wrong way. Milk can help but you gotta clean your face with a clean laundry first and then use milk. (A body milk might be a better choice than the one you drink)

Hey Mike, you should do a review of blackjacks and saps. Maybe they can solve some of the issues with batons. Love to see the whole family here btw!

I first thought that read "does Mike help against pepper spray", and judging from previous videos I would've definitely said nope, pepper spray wins every time. ;-)

I can also deal with stressful situations when they happen to others (like injuries). I also totally froze when I was attached on the street. Different situation completely.

    Hey Mike!
I love the channel and your scientific approach towards self-defense. Since we're talking women self-defense, a common issue is hair grabbing and pulling. Would you please make a video on how to defend against it? A lot of stuff on RUclips seems like either untested bs or too complicated. I wanna make my daughters harder to hurt...

I sincerely enjoyed this!! Sorry… 🤣😂 When you got tangled up in the soccer net, I was laughing so hard that dogs came in to check on me. 🤣😂 Thanks for the experiment and for the laughs! I know that hurt!

The lactic acid in the milk likely added to the capsaicin.
Lactic acid is what helps to break down chicken when its soaked in buttermilk for chicken fried chicken.

The source is likely that drinking milk alleviates spiciness when eating. The mechanism is that the compound causing the false sense of heat, capsaicin is shaped so that it gets stuck in the shape of your receptors for heat, causing constant activation. The fattines in milk coats that molecule and that allows it to get dislodged easier. In short, the fattier the liquid the better! The proportion of capsaicin is expressed by the Scoville scale (up to 16.000.000 for 100%).
