  • Footwork for badminton - Cross court 4 variations and 10 examples. The footwork in badminton is a key element to become a better player. In this basic footwork tutorial I go through the cross court with 4 variations, and I show 10 examples on this badminton footwork. I focus on the footwork move from backcourt and cross forward in both sides. I use steps, side shuffles, skips, lunges and the China jump, so many different footwork variations in badminton to cover the full court. I share 10 examples, so watch the whole video to get all the tips 😃

    Very helpful! It is interesting to consider other sports and what they offer to badminton training. Some of these steps look like the triple jump; wonder how world record holder Jonathan Edwards would cover the court. Also, my main problems is the reset/pause in the middle because I never know where the shuttle is going and it is tough to keep a flow going with good players.

    1st version (i don't know who does it)-
    2nd version- lee chong wei , lin dan , Kento momota
    3rd version - i saw it kento doing vs Lee chong wei...
    I can do 2nd and 3rd versions but 1st one is new and a little awkard for me...
    Can you tell which player does it?

      If you look closely what pro players are doing, they rarely do these special variations shown in this video. It also depends on (like he said) which kind of shot you played.
      In my view and what I've learnt from my coach, from the backhand side there are only two variations on the cross footwork.
      1. Cross Drop
      We do a side shuffel and then a running step. This variation was briefly mentioned in the video above.
      2. Cross Smash
      In case of smashes we only have one option which is to run to the net. There is really no other option, because running is the fastest and when playing a good smash, the opponent will most likely return the shot longline to the net.

      @@clemenske1 I totally agree with your coach, but In cross smash (if it wasn't hard enough or on the body or if the other player is too pro...) running isn't a good idea.. as the other player can easily shuffle the cock cross court or even 3rd line ... That is the place where 2nd variation comes after finally seeing whar shot your opponent has played you can do that(as of lee chong wei) the 3rd variation(kinda running) fits cross court drop if as the player have varying shots he can throw the shuttle anywhere on court (we often play cross drop fr changing pace of rally and surprising)so.. properly seeing where the opp has thrown the shuttle if 3rd line you can easily take and if a net you can run and throw it back... btw i am 15 years advanced player using 100zz(it does not matters lol) but without coach... But i have much pros in my court sooo..

    3rd version still fastest and the easiest to execute IMHO. Keep it simple. 1 and 2nd are called Li Mao steps and would be awkward looking for most without advanced skills.

  • @babam5792

    Hi Thomas. I have been thinking and trying hard but it is getting into my nerve now. When you play the forehand overhead shot, why is your main leg (right) in the front of the leg (when it should be vice versa). I can play that short very comfortably with my playing leg (left one as I am a left handed player) at the back line and the right leg at the front. With your movement I have terrible pressure on my back

    • @BadmintonFamly
      @BadmintonFamly  3 года назад

      @@BadmintonFamly I guess I will have to take a pic of my foot movement for these shots. I know what you say sounds right but looking at at and imitating it at home didn't work and I was in an awkward body position
