    Hello~ I enjoyed your video.
    I am a coach who runs a badminton gym and teaches in Korea.
    I had some disagreements with other coaches about wrist use, and this video made me think I was right.
    I'm so glad to see you on video, Coach, who feels the same way as me.
    Thank you again.

    Your videos are great and very informative so thank you on behalf of the whole Badminton community!~
    I wanted to clarify what sort of finger position you use for your over head shots (clear/smash) versus your under arm shots (forehand).
    It looks like you are comfortable having the thumb quite high up the grip (in the slow mo with your POV) but when its the camera facing you, your thumb moves down to being ontop of your 3 fingers so the index finger is highest.
    Im just asking because i am trying to work out which grip to use and where to put my fingers as the regular index, thumb, middle finger position feels a bit awkward.

      Hello There ;)
      Sorry for the long wait for a reply. Haven't checked this video in a while.
      Love your question! Made us think a bit about it ourself - Great observation!
      We came to the conclusion that Thomas uses his fingers a lot when playing badminton. Having the thumb a bit higher allows him to press it into the grip right before impact and create some fast power from there. It also helps him hit the shuttle with a steeper downward angle.
      The lower thumb has the grip sitting a bit more in the palm of the hand and makes for a more underarm rotation based shot.
      In the end of the day every player has a bit of variations on the basics, but the most important thing is good fundamentals.
      Have an amazing day

    Great video! I've been playing for 10+ years and slowly developed more technique, but I still partly use a bend in my wrist. My trainer frequently says to 'use more wrist', but what's actually meant is to use more forearm rotation?

    • @alancmchan
      @alancmchan 3 года назад +3

      Correct. People often use the wrong terminology and refer to “wrist” instead of forearm pronation
