@@VanLifeStorytelling I would agree, I think that interviewing neighbours is likely Randy's domain, definitely would stick to exterior filming of the community, as they would surely never object to promoting the community, and documenting their progress as long as its positive. They have taken a lot of flack over people filming the community and the feedback of strangers, regarding their unfinished work... But these, communities will be growing and completing in an organic process over year's, its not the classic cookie cutter approach, and gratefully not the price tag that goes with that polished look. If it were, so many people would be priced out. I love that Randy has created an entry level option for anyone to be able to afford a toe hold to be able to join the community. And I love that you have covered the local area so far, in ways he hasn't, or hasn't had time to. I know that Randy and Amanda want to, and try to, and sometimes do, cover the local area... But they just don't have time. Maybe check with them about places they would love you to promote... They are so proud of East Tennessee, I can't see them objecting to promoting the place they love. And I know they were wanting to get coupons and discounts from a few places. I'm sure they won't be able to have enough time to film local hiking trails and parks, and historical sites. And I loved the still shots you took at some of the historical buildings and Creek you visited... That format was like a slide show of local beautiful places... That's enough of a different format from Randy's.. And supports local interest in the area which they love so much... And I like your voice over, describing your experience of visiting different places, that keeps it personal as well.... Anyways... Thats my 2 cents :) not that you asked... Sorry... Would just love to see something like that as you continue to grow your channel, and it has cross over that draws a, lot of interest into the area.... East Tennessee is so beautiful. I love footage I've seen on a few channels that explore some of the Airbnb in the area.. Cruising down those gorgeous country backroads, searching for the right road... Totally, agree that it is not my position for interview my neighbors and other residents here in the Tiny Towne community. However, I will do my best to continue to put out videos and highlighting the eastern TN area. I have had a little setup as about 10 days ago I had auto accident and totaled my used car. I walked away with no injuries and no damage to other cars. Therefore, I have been preoccupied that that situation. However, I am am okay and was blessed.

Nice window coverings, I watch another Incredible Tiny Home video where the owners of a Charleston put in plantation shutters, good to see a variety of window coverings just in case I ever get a tiny home of my own.
Buy an aluminum extension ladder, use the base which has the feet, and attach it on the top to the sleeping space. Then invent a pulley system to just manually pull it up when not in use. Some carpenter around there will be able to figure this out. Much cheaper and with nice big steps. You can also slant it the way you want for easier access.

This is my first time here to visit with you and to see your lovely new home. It's extra sharp! The oiled counter top and slide close desk top are stunning - really like how you painted all of your walls a beautiful white! The rug on the floor is so cool. I can imagine a white county style soft cotton waffle woven fabric bedspread and stunning pillow cases and or shams that match the colors in your rug. I've googled Tiny House loft ladder ideas in the past. Most are pricey. However, the one that doubles as a shelf unit & still has room for footing would at least give a two-for-one function, plus give great additional storage. Great house & look forward to future adventures.

I have A 8 x 16 I first had a ships latter but was hard to use as I also used the area for storage. I then built a set of steps with decorative hand pulls on the wall to grab onto. I have storage boxes that pullout on the first 2 steps a cubby on the 3rd step to a landing then a floating shelf step. It works ❤

Your ITH is shaping up nicely, the blinds really look nice. I’ve watched hundreds of tiny home videos, and have seen a lot of interesting work arounds for the ladder. I’d like to suggest a rail that goes along the length of the loft, then a hook style ladder, you could even attach wood blocks to the top of a standard wooden ladder to create the “hook” part. Then you could use the ladder as a visual divider to your bed space by storming it on the side close to you night table and lamp, then when you have guests, put it up at the end of the loft that connects to the fro t wall. I hope that makes sense. Make sue the loft is easily accessible for YOU, that way, in the event you have a guest stay that can’t manage the ladder, you could switch and offer them your bed. If there are Amish builders in your neck of Tennessee, you might be able to find a carpenter to build you a beautiful ladder, that can also double as blanket storage!

Maybe check out what the call a chair and a half. They are sturdy extra wide chairs that can hold two average sized people. My daughter just bought one for her family room and both she and her guy can sit in it together comfortably.
You are doing such a good job on your tiny house for a young fellow .🎉 maybe a ladder that hangs on the wall, to take down when you need it..I agree with one of the other subscribers would love to watch you interviewing other companions on the Grove. Your home is looking good, you are making it look very cozy, and that is what counts! The shades are nice and I love the lamp with the gold globes! I have always liked those! Oh, and the trip to the Smokey Mountains was very nice to see! IT is a beautiful place. I love the mountains; I am from the Midwest and we do not get to explore areas so beautiful! I have drove by them when over the road with my husband, they were so pretty to see in the distance, and I see why they are called the Smoky Mountains!
I have those blinds on my windows. I ended up putting sheer curtains on the windows also so that I can have the blinds open during the day and still have privacy. They also act as insulation on the windows.

I seen a tiny house video a few days ago. Sorry, I can't remember which one. Had so many great ideas for tiny living. What she did w/ the ladder to the loft, was custom build a wooden ladder. Then bought tracks w/ a stop at the front side of the loft. She just reached up, pulled the ladder til it stopped the lowered it to the floor. Flat treads & plenty of room on the back side of the steps for your toes, unlike the pipe on the wall . When done just lift the end, push back into track. Won't slip or fall because it rests in the track. Other uses is you could hang dried herbs, garlic,etc. Lower it and use it fir a clothes drying rack. I loved this idea. I will try to find that video. If I do , I will let you know. Just wanted you to have to have concept asap. BTW love your color scheme inside & out.

You are so correct as if I was to install the pipe ladder I would purchase the panel board and prime and paint it before installing to the wall. Your blinds look great. I purchased the same ones from Lowe’s. I measured like they told me to and they cut them. I went to My tiny and I put them up myself. (I’m 66 years old. Lol). I was amazed at how easy it was. It only took me a couple of hours. I put up 5 and have to get 3 more .

There is a video on RUclips where a woman living in a tiny house has a wood collapsing small staircase that collapses against the wall and then she just pulls it out when she needs it. Saves so much space. Maybe one of the carpenters at ITH can build you something like that.
My first time finding your videos...I grew up in that area, and I love it. Your tiny home is very nice; we have a little 12 X 20 cabin we built for camping, thankfully with no loft. LOL I'm not sure what to suggest about a ladder, but I know someone will give you a really good idea for it.

I'm still a bit from retirement, but I'm really looking forward to at least being within visiting distance of trees and free-running water. Your transition from a tiny house to a tiny home is coming along really well. I am looking for a combo sleeper that will work as a couch and bed (I can also use it in my existing place; the question is whether I want to get something I will eventually need to move across the country). Yes, the trip to Cades Cove was a pleasant visit and it would have been nice to see some bears or deer. However, i have lived in the great NW and have already seen grizzly bears and elk before.
Love the gray blinds and the contrast to the white interior. Like the raised bed frame with drawers and the flooring color. Maybe you could source some scrap pipes and weld your own pipe ladder? Black rungs going up to the loft would look great in your setup and will last. I like your videos because you are showing your progress step by step. It is a great visual to help me decide things. LADDER. that half inch is likely enough..be sure to ask. And if using the 1 inch... Consider replacing the horizontal bars with pvc piping. Short lengths of pvc are very strong... Just spray paint black to match. Alternatively... Mount a 1x12 pine board, with VERTICAL 2x4's for your ladder uprights scrwed in from the back of the 1x12...then large holes drilled straight through the 2x4's to thread through either the metal piping you had been looking at, or wooden closet rod doweling... Either would work fine... Lots of options. And another alternative, would be to simply use what Randy and Tom use for a ladder in their first few homes... They bought a simple aluminium ladder at Lowe's... Then they sawed off the back legs... Not sure how they rigged the top to latch on... Best to ask Tom... And they just hung it on the wall out of the way when not in use

Certainly, I used the Watco Butcher Block Oil from Lowes. I sanded it slightly using 220 git first and cleaned off the debris using a tack cloth. Then, I applied with a rubber brush from the painting section of Lowes. Thanks for the favorable comments.
You've done a wonderful job in your tiny home! It's very cozy and functional. Do you plan on putting some shelving up by the kitchen sink area? The pictures of the park and creek are beautiful even in cloudy weather. Too bad you couldn't have a longer stay. There will be plenty of opportunities though and in the fall it will be glorious! Your home is looking great! I would suggest a wood ladder, it would be cost effective and could be used to hold blankets while not in use. Or you planning to plant shrubs around your home?
Very good and thanks for the suggestion. I assume that you would just pull the blankets over the ladder and let them hang down? I have not decided yet to do in front of the home. ITH is supposed to get a excavator to work the front drive area again and the streets as we have had holding water issues and mud in those areas. My thinking is that I don't want a lot of maintenance or upkeep to deal with.

A pipe ladder might look cool, but it will hurt the feet. Maybe just have a ladder with flat steps that can move out of the way and hook safely on the top ledge somehow. You'll figure it out.
There is another channel where the man built a (larger) tiny home and has a neat ladder idea that hangs on the wall. Perhaps you could do something similar on a smaller scale Robert. Not sure what the price of something like that would be but thought I'd tell you about it. The video I saw is at a channel named "Mateo" about a 20' Cedar home. I am sure you can search for it on your tube. It is a recent video.

Very Well done. The ladder will be an interesting project for you. Do lots of research to find what you really want. Randy Jones has shown many kinds of ladders they made over the years. Maybe they have some pictures of all those ladder solutions. You might be able to make simple wood ladder fastened to the wall sort of like the pipe ladder. You might be able to use 2x2s for both the rungs and the vertical supports. Make sure it goes up above the loft so your guests can reach up to grab it while they step off on the rungs. THen they use the vertical members to grab onto while the descend. I recommend a space between those verticals and the wall so their fingers will fit between the wall and the vertical members.

Hi, great job on your tiny house. Do your blinds go both ways, so you can light in the top and still have privacy. I think a wood ladder with alternating steps would be the safest and most comfortable to climb. Maybe put a back on every other step, so you can use for storage when ladder not needed. Good luck, deciding. There are so many options.
They did not and I did consider it but the getting pricey as I have two tiny homes to modernize. However, I see your point and it would have been nice. I like your idea about building in a shelf for storage. I am limited with space though. However, good suggestion and I will look into.

I was looking at the map of Tennessee today and seen Douglas Lake. It looks like a huge lake. Have you been there? Newport seems like an awesome area that has many things to explore that are very close! I so hope I can get there to visit and look for my very own tiny home someday!!
I have visited Douglas Lake several times. Fun fact - it is actually the French Broad River and at the end of May the TVA floods it to make it the Douglas Lake. Then, around Thanksgiving they cut off or drain the lake to make it the river again. Thanks for watching.
I have been to Cades Cove twice,it is a beautiful place.There i a you tube channel you may like,I believe it is called Appalachia,the man who has it has very interesting stories about Cades Cove as well as many other locations.
The telescope ladder from Home Depot the 1 I saw in Randy's video should I want to buy that? Amazon sells them too. I buy a ladder that I can minimize & put away. Having a stationary ladder I don't like in a small space. 8x20 is the size I want for my incredible cottage. 😉
Just a theory....a piano hinge joined to your loft on one end and a similar one to a two part folding step system ladder made from wood or aluminum with side rails on each part that fit either in or over the other seems a doable way to get up and a lock in place strap or a metal hook to hold it up and be easy to release for reversal to get down. Maybe a strap that is on the bottom part sides...... that can hook together on eye hole screws attached to the middle of the front of the loft at a site that is adjacent to the loft for release and can be used to help the steps to unfold without slamming into the floor because of the weight of it?? Anyway this is my concept of a way to do it. Good luck and happy days.

Your home is coming along nicely! Not sure if this would work. In the search bar type in foldable staircase. Look for Woby Design. He made it 2yrs ago. Folds vertical to the wall. Very interesting. Warning:alot of "F" bombs. Still worth a look.
Respectfully, the Woby design staircase is intended to walk into STANDING loft spaces. It is a full, upright, standing position staircase. He built that for a space that is 15 feet high. The Incredibox is NOT 15 feet tall. If you have never set foot in one of these incrediboxes, you cannot even sit up right in it. You can only lie down. The exception might be a child, who would be short enough to sit upright in it. This is the staircase he created...notice how he is standing completely upright. You cannot do that in that short Incredibox loft. You pretty much have to throw a leg up and roll into it. I say this as a physically fit, strong, former gymnast and yoga instructor who is 55 years old and can totally do that...but it is very awkward and not something most people can do. Most teens and kids can do it, and people in their 20s, if they're not overweight, weak, or scared of heights. Getting out of it is a whole lot harder because...again...you cannot even sit upright in it. I'm only 5'6" and short-waisted. ruclips.net/video/BcWt1_UYAag/видео.html They sell this loft as a place you can sleep if you put a window in it. However, it is really nothing more than a storage loft. Again, maybe for a child who is strong and physically fit, and not afraid of heights. The space Woby Design was working in is MASSIVE compared to the tiny Incredibox, each level of his space has 7.5' of height underneath and in the loft. That is DOUBLE the height of the Incredibox loft. Think about every single video you've watched of ITH. Have you ever seen a single person climb into that Incredibox loft??? No, you haven't. You never will because it is that difficult to get into, and far, far more dangerous to climb out of. You have to see it in person, and climb up their model, to really see it for yourself.
Okay, and thanks so very much for the suggestion. Keep in mind that from the end of flip down table to the top of the sleeping loft I only have 48 inches to work with. However, I will search on RUclips and check it out. Thanks for watching.

This as awesome! Great smoky mountains and the water was a real treat thankyou!! I dont have an ITH just yet so I cant answer the the ladder/loft question. I sure someone else has some great suggestions. I would likely do the reticulated as it wont take up precious space but I have no clue as to the cost. Great idea with the add on wall mounted table...with the oil your butcher block looks amazing. Do you then coat it with a sealer?? Thank you for sharing your process it really helps us who are still in dreaming and planning stage

Just a suggestion for the loft climber, why don’t you ask them what they would like to climb up with? If it’s because your brother might come ask him! I’m a 71 yr old gramma, I could never pull myself up a pipe ladder on the wall. Maybe go to Lowe’s and try out some of there ladders, which one feels more comfortable to climb, all just a suggestion!
Have you ever climbed that pipe ladder in the actual model that ITH built using that pipe to get into that super-short loft? There is no way to climb into it. You have to stand on the pipe and try to throw one leg in just to get up there because there isn't enough headroom to climb up into it. I'm only 5'6", too, so not tall. Worse still, once you get up in it, it is far more difficult to get out of it. You can't throw a leg down and get back on that pipe ladder. You also can't sit upright in the loft to put a foot back on the ladder. It's actually very dangerous, and I am a former gymnast and yoga instructor. I'm super flexible. I wouldn't even allow a child to sleep up in that loft. Essentially, it is wasted space. There is a *very good reason* why you have never seen them show anyone get into or out of that Incredibox loft, and certainly NOT using that expensive pipe ladder they installed. You also cannot carry stuff up that pipe ladder if you just wanted to shove stuff up there to store it. Not only NO, it's a holy hell no.
I used and Watco Butcher Block Oil from Lowes. The blinds were more expensive than I wanted but I got the room darkening feature on all seven blinds. It came out to about $1,100 which included $295 in labor to install them. Thanks for watching.

Great choice with the blinds too. I am sold on the ITH community. And do plan on living there I just don't know exactly when. Could even be a few more years. I love that place and the idea so much that I hope my patients last. Maybe you could help me answer a few questions like the mail and what if you have packages from the United States postal service? I haven't heard anything about them making house-to-house package drop offs, but I think FedEx and Amazon do deliver to the home. Am I correct on that. Also does every home have a water meter or a set rate fee? And lastly does every home have a water hose connection outside? Thank you in advance for helping me answer these questions, I can't wait to get there. Enjoy my future community neighbor! Steve .... Oh I almost forgot, is it possible to buy a ladder that they make their, they build a hook at the top end to hold in place, and then hanging from a bracket on your wall like you were going to do with the galvanized pipe. That to me is about the safest thing to do. I had a ladder accident and busted my shoulder so that's what I would do. They may be able to put an extra rail on one side to hang onto with. If you didn't like the wall idea you could also pick it up and slide it into the loft area. Sorry sometimes I talk to much lol.
Steve, good to hear from you and I wish you best on your future plans and I assume that ITH will have other communities opening. There is a huge container building setup for deliveries of mail and packages. I am not sure if FEDEX delivers to each home or not. We all pay a fee of $25 for water each month and billed by ITH. NO, hose connection and I would like one and I hear that a handyman could install one. You are right on target with the hook in the wall for a ladder or doing the pipe ladder. I agree with you that a railing on the pipe ladder would be a must. One person suggested building an attic pull-down ladder against the wall. When you talk to the ITH sale team tell them you watched my videos and good luck!
How about, just getting a normal stable free standing painters ladder. If not needed, you can hang it anywhere inside or outside of your house. You can also use it in and outside. You can also lend it to your neighbors too, if they are in need of a ladder.

@@VanLifeStorytelling I would agree, I think that interviewing neighbours is likely Randy's domain, definitely would stick to exterior filming of the community, as they would surely never object to promoting the community, and documenting their progress as long as its positive. They have taken a lot of flack over people filming the community and the feedback of strangers, regarding their unfinished work... But these, communities will be growing and completing in an organic process over year's, its not the classic cookie cutter approach, and gratefully not the price tag that goes with that polished look. If it were, so many people would be priced out. I love that Randy has created an entry level option for anyone to be able to afford a toe hold to be able to join the community. And I love that you have covered the local area so far, in ways he hasn't, or hasn't had time to. I know that Randy and Amanda want to, and try to, and sometimes do, cover the local area... But they just don't have time. Maybe check with them about places they would love you to promote... They are so proud of East Tennessee, I can't see them objecting to promoting the place they love. And I know they were wanting to get coupons and discounts from a few places. I'm sure they won't be able to have enough time to film local hiking trails and parks, and historical sites. And I loved the still shots you took at some of the historical buildings and Creek you visited... That format was like a slide show of local beautiful places... That's enough of a different format from Randy's.. And supports local interest in the area which they love so much... And I like your voice over, describing your experience of visiting different places, that keeps it personal as well.... Anyways... Thats my 2 cents :) not that you asked... Sorry... Would just love to see something like that as you continue to grow your channel, and it has cross over that draws a, lot of interest into the area.... East Tennessee is so beautiful. I love footage I've seen on a few channels that explore some of the Airbnb in the area.. Cruising down those gorgeous country backroads, searching for the right road... So green, so Lush, so calming and restoring... Such a beautiful natural place. Anyways, I wish you all the best with your channel and your 2 lovely homes... Totally, agree that it is not my position for interview my neighbors and other residents here in the Tiny Towne community. However, I will do my best to continue to put out videos and highlighting the eastern TN area. I have had a little setup as about 10 days ago I had auto accident and totaled my used car. I walked away with no injuries and no damage to other cars. Therefore, I have been preoccupied that that situation. However, I am am okay and was blessed.

Nice window coverings, I watch another Incredible Tiny Home video where the owners of a Charleston put in plantation shutters, good to see a variety of window coverings just in case I ever get a tiny home of my own.

Buy an aluminum extension ladder, use the base which has the feet, and attach it on the top to the sleeping space. Then invent a pulley system to just manually pull it up when not in use. Some carpenter around there will be able to figure this out. Much cheaper and with nice big steps. You can also slant it the way you want for easier access.

The oiled counter top and slide close desk top are stunning - really like how you painted all of your walls a beautiful white! The rug on the floor is so cool. I've googled Tiny House loft ladder ideas in the past. Most are pricey. However, the one that doubles as a shelf unit & still has room for footing would at least give a two-for-one function, plus give great additional storage. Great house & look forward to future adventures.

I have A 8 x 16 I first had a ships latter but was hard to use as I also used the area for storage. I then built a set of steps with decorative hand pulls on the wall to grab onto. I have storage boxes that pullout on the first 2 steps a cubby on the 3rd step to a landing then a floating shelf step. It works ❤

I have seen steps or ladder that folds flat against a wall, when not in use, you pull it away from wall to use.

the wall. However, there is no existing wood board to attach it to as there is a steel panel. If we can figure that issue out we might be there. Thanks for watching.

Your ITH is shaping up nicely, the blinds really look nice. I’ve watched hundreds of tiny home videos, and have seen a lot of interesting work arounds for the ladder. I’d like to suggest a rail that goes along the length of the loft, then a hook style ladder, you could even attach wood blocks to the top of a standard wooden ladder to create the “hook” part. Then you could use the ladder as a visual divider to your bed space by storming it on the side close to you night table and lamp, then when you have guests, put it up at the end of the loft that connects to the fro t wall. I hope that makes sense.
Make sue the loft is easily accessible for YOU, that way, in the event you have a guest stay that can’t manage the ladder, you could switch and offer them your bed. If there are Amish builders in your neck of Tennessee, you might be able to find a carpenter to build you a beautiful ladder, that can also double as blanket storage!

Maybe check out what the call a chair and a half. They are sturdy extra wide chairs that can hold two average sized people. My daughter just bought one for her family room and both she and her guy can sit in it together comfortably.
They got it on clearance at Walker’s Furiture.
They also have chairs that turn into beds...just like a sleeper sofa. . great for company

I have those blinds on my windows. I ended up putting sheer curtains on the windows also so that I can have the blinds open during the day and still have privacy. They also act as insulation on the windows.

I seen a tiny house video a few days ago. Sorry, I can't remember which one. Had so many great ideas for tiny living. What she did w/ the ladder to the loft, was custom build a wooden ladder. Then bought tracks w/ a stop at the front side of the loft. She just reached up, pulled the ladder til it stopped the lowered it to the floor. Flat treads & plenty of room on the back side of the steps for your toes, unlike the pipe on the wall . When done just lift the end, push back into track. Won't slip or fall because it rests in the track.
Other uses is you could hang dried herbs, garlic,etc.
Lower it and use it fir a clothes drying rack.
I loved this idea. I will try to find that video. If I do , I will let you know. Just wanted you to have to have concept asap. BTW love your color scheme inside & out.

Your blinds look great. I purchased the same ones from Lowe’s. I measured like they told me to and they cut them. I went to My tiny and I put them up myself. (I’m 66 years old. Lol). I was amazed at how easy it was. It only took me a couple of hours. I put up 5 and have to get 3 more .

There is a video on RUclips where a woman living in a tiny house has a wood collapsing small staircase that collapses against the wall and then she just pulls it out when she needs it. Saves so much space. Maybe one of the carpenters at ITH can build you something like that.

My first time finding your videos...I grew up in that area, and I love it. Your tiny home is very nice; we have a little 12 X 20 cabin we built for camping, thankfully with no loft. LOL I'm not sure what to suggest about a ladder, but I know someone will give you a really good idea for it.

I'm still a bit from retirement, but I'm really looking forward to at least being within visiting distance of trees and free-running water. Your transition from a tiny house to a tiny home is coming along really well. I am looking for a combo sleeper that will work as a couch and bed (I can also use it in my existing place; the question is whether I want to get something I will eventually need to move across the country). Not really found anything I like, yet, but they have come a long way from my mom's old sleeper sofa. The shades look really sharp! Thanks again for sharing your journey!
Yes, the trip to Cades Cove was a pleasant visit and it would have been nice to see some bears or deer. However, i have lived in the great NW and have already seen grizzly bears and elk before.

Love the gray blinds and the contrast to the white interior. Like the raised bed frame with drawers and the flooring color. Maybe you could source some scrap pipes and weld your own pipe ladder? Black rungs going up to the loft would look great in your setup and will last. I like your videos because you are showing your progress step by step. It is a great visual to help me decide things. LADDER. that half inch is likely enough..be sure to ask. And if using the 1 inch... Consider replacing the horizontal bars with pvc piping. Short lengths of pvc are very strong... Just spray paint black to match. Alternatively... Mount a 1x12 pine board, with VERTICAL 2x4's for your ladder uprights scrwed in from the back of the 1x12...then large holes drilled straight through the 2x4's to thread through either the metal piping you had been looking at, or wooden closet rod doweling... Either would work fine... Lots of options. And another alternative, would be to simply use what Randy and Tom use for a ladder in their first few homes... They bought a simple aluminium ladder at Lowe's... Then they sawed off the back legs... Not sure how they rigged the top to latch on... Best to ask Tom... And they just hung it on the wall out of the way when not in use

The countertops are beautiful. Can I ask you what kind of oil you used and how you applied it?
Certainly, I used the Watco Butcher Block Oil from Lowes. I sanded it slightly using 220 git first and cleaned off the debris using a tack cloth. Then, I applied with a rubber brush from the painting section of Lowes. Thanks for the favorable comments.

Your home is looking great! I would suggest a wood ladder, it would be cost effective and could be used to hold blankets while not in use. Or you planning to plant shrubs around your home?
Very good and thanks for the suggestion. I assume that you would just pull the blankets over the ladder and let them hang down? I have not decided yet to do in front of the home. ITH is supposed to get a excavator to work the front drive area again and the streets as we have had holding water issues and mud in those areas. My thinking is that I don't want a lot of maintenance or upkeep to deal with.

A pipe ladder might look cool, but it will hurt the feet. Maybe just have a ladder with flat steps that can move out of the way and hook safely on the top ledge somehow. You'll figure it out.

There is another channel where the man built a (larger) tiny home and has a neat ladder idea that hangs on the wall. Perhaps you could do something similar on a smaller scale Robert. Not sure what the price of something like that would be but thought I'd tell you about it. The video I saw is at a channel named "Mateo" about a 20' Cedar home. I am sure you can search for it on your tube. It is a recent video.

Very Well done. The ladder will be an interesting project for you. Do lots of research to find what you really want. Randy Jones has shown many kinds of ladders they made over the years. Maybe they have some pictures of all those ladder solutions. You might be able to make simple wood ladder fastened to the wall sort of like the pipe ladder. You might be able to use 2x2s for both the rungs and the vertical supports. Make sure it goes up above the loft so your guests can reach up to grab it while they step off on the rungs. THen they use the vertical members to grab onto while the descend. I recommend a space between those verticals and the wall so their fingers will fit between the wall and the vertical members.
Very good and great suggestion and I do appreciate your thoughts. One of neighbors across the street made a wood ladder of 2x2 and not sure what she used for the actual steps. Hi, great job on your tiny house. Do your blinds go both ways, so you can light in the top and still have privacy. I think a wood ladder with alternating steps would be the safest and most comfortable to climb. Maybe put a back on every other step, so you can use for storage when ladder not needed. Good luck, deciding. There are so many options.
They did not and I did consider it but the getting pricey as I have two tiny homes to modernize. However, I see your point and it would have been nice. I like your idea about building in a shelf for storage. I am limited with space though. However, good suggestion and I will look into.

I was looking at the map of Tennessee today and seen Douglas Lake. It looks like a huge lake. Have you been there? Newport seems like an awesome area that has many things to explore that are very close! I so hope I can get there to visit and look for my very own tiny home someday!!
I have visited Douglas Lake several times. Fun fact - it is actually the French Broad River and at the end of May the TVA floods it to make it the Douglas Lake. Then, around Thanksgiving they cut off or drain the lake to make it the river again. Thanks for watching.

The telescope ladder from Home Depot the 1 I saw in Randy's video should I want to buy that? Amazon sells them too. I buy a ladder that I can minimize & put away. Having a stationary ladder I don't like in a small space.

Just a theory....a piano hinge joined to your loft on one end and a similar one to a two part folding step system ladder made from wood or aluminum with side rails on each part that fit either in or over the other seems a doable way to get up and a lock in place strap or a metal hook to hold it up and be easy to release for reversal to get down. Maybe a strap that is on the bottom part sides...... that can hook together on eye hole screws attached to the middle of the front of the loft at a site that is adjacent to the loft for release and can be used to help the steps to unfold without slamming into the floor because of the weight of it?? Anyway this is my concept of a way to do it. Good luck and happy days.

Your home is coming along nicely! Not sure if this would work. In the search bar type in foldable staircase. Look for Woby Design. He made it 2yrs ago. Folds vertical to the wall. Very interesting. Warning:alot of "F" bombs. Still worth a look.
Respectfully, the Woby design staircase is intended to walk into STANDING loft spaces. It is a full, upright, standing position staircase. He built that for a space that is 15 feet high. The Incredibox is NOT 15 feet tall. If you have never set foot in one of these incrediboxes, you cannot even sit up right in it. You can only lie down. The exception might be a child, who would be short enough to sit upright in it.
This is the staircase he created...notice how he is standing completely upright. You cannot do that in that short Incredibox loft. You pretty much have to throw a leg up and roll into it. I say this as a physically fit, strong, former gymnast and yoga instructor who is 55 years old and can totally do that...but it is very awkward and not something most people can do. Most teens and kids can do it, and people in their 20s, if they're not overweight, weak, or scared of heights. Getting out of it is a whole lot harder because...again...you cannot even sit upright in it. I'm only 5'6" and short-waisted. ruclips.net/video/BcWt1_UYAag/видео.html
They sell this loft as a place you can sleep if you put a window in it. However, it is really nothing more than a storage loft. Again, maybe for a child who is strong and physically fit, and not afraid of heights.
The space Woby Design was working in is MASSIVE compared to the tiny Incredibox, each level of his space has 7.5' of height underneath and in the loft. That is DOUBLE the height of the Incredibox loft.
Think about every single video you've watched of ITH. Have you ever seen a single person climb into that Incredibox loft??? No, you haven't. You never will because it is that difficult to get into, and far, far more dangerous to climb out of. You have to see it in person, and climb up their model, to really see it for yourself.

I sure someone else has some great suggestions. I would likely do the reticulated as it wont take up precious space but I have no clue as to the cost. Great idea with the add on wall mounted table...with the oil your butcher block looks amazing. Do you then coat it with a sealer?? Just a suggestion for the loft climber, why don’t you ask them what they would like to climb up with? If it’s because your brother might come ask him! I’m a 71 yr old gramma, I could never pull myself up a pipe ladder on the wall. Maybe go to Lowe’s and try out some of there ladders, which one feels more comfortable to climb, all just a suggestion!
Fair enough and whoever climbs up and down to the sleeping loft must be in good shape and agile and my brother in Atlanta is.

Purchase the full length pipe and they will cut it down for no additional charge. Attach elbow and flange
Have you ever climbed that pipe ladder in the actual model that ITH built using that pipe to get into that super-short loft? There is no way to climb into it. You have to stand on the pipe and try to throw one leg in just to get up there because there isn't enough headroom to climb up into it. I'm only 5'6", too, so not tall.
Worse still, once you get up in it, it is far more difficult to get out of it. You can't throw a leg down and get back on that pipe ladder. You also can't sit upright in the loft to put a foot back on the ladder. It's actually very dangerous, and I am a former gymnast and yoga instructor. I'm super flexible.
I wouldn't even allow a child to sleep up in that loft. Essentially, it is wasted space.
There is a *very good reason* why you have never seen them show anyone get into or out of that Incredibox loft, and certainly NOT using that expensive pipe ladder they installed.
You also cannot carry stuff up that pipe ladder if you just wanted to shove stuff up there to store it. Not only NO, it's a holy hell no.
Good suggestion and that might save me some money. However, how would I get the grooves to screw in cut?

I used and Watco Butcher Block Oil from Lowes. The blinds were more expensive than I wanted but I got the room darkening feature on all seven blinds. It came out to about $1,100 which included $295 in labor to install them. Thanks for watching.

It is for the 8x20 floor plans only as ITH increased the wall height and space by four foot.

Hello, finally remembering to subscribe to your channel. I think I've seen all of them. Love what you've done with your place. And respect all the hard work you've put into them. Great choice with the blinds too. I am sold on the ITH community. And do plan on living there I just don't know exactly when. Could even be a few more years. I love that place and the idea so much that I hope my patients last. Maybe you could help me answer a few questions like the mail and what if you have packages from the United States postal service? I haven't heard anything about them making house-to-house package drop offs, but I think FedEx and Amazon do deliver to the home. Am I correct on that. Also does every home have a water meter or a set rate fee? And lastly does every home have a water hose connection outside? Thank you in advance for helping me answer these questions, I can't wait to get there. Enjoy my future community neighbor! Steve .... Oh I almost forgot, is it possible to buy a ladder that they make their, they build a hook at the top end to hold in place, and then hanging from a bracket on your wall like you were going to do with the galvanized pipe. That to me is about the safest thing to do. I had a ladder accident and busted my shoulder so that's what I would do. They may be able to put an extra rail on one side to hang onto with. If you didn't like the wall idea you could also pick it up and slide it into the loft area. Sorry sometimes I talk to much lol.
Steve, good to hear from you and I wish you best on your future plans and I assume that ITH will have other communities opening. There is a huge container building setup for deliveries of mail and packages. I am not sure if FEDEX delivers to each home or not. We all pay a fee of $25 for water each month and billed by ITH. NO, hose connection and I would like one and I hear that a handyman could install one. You are right on target with the hook in the wall for a ladder or doing the pipe ladder. I agree with you that a railing on the pipe ladder would be a must. One person suggested building an attic pull-down ladder against the wall. When you talk to the ITH sale team tell them you watched my videos and good luck!
How about, just getting a normal stable free standing painters ladder. If not needed, you can hang it anywhere inside or outside of your house. You can also use it in and outside. You can also lend it to your neighbors too, if they are in need of a ladder.
That is correct and might be a viable solution. All you would need would be a eight foot high ladder. Very good solution and thanks for watching.
