I live on the Gulf Coast close to Houston and live in a one bedroom apartment of about 650 square feet. I'm paying around $775 a month and even that's overpriced. I'm 75 yo and am impressed by your cozy home. It's refreshing to see a young man not being materialistic and down to earth. Wishing you the best and good energy your way.
My grandfather had an apartment like that in New York too. He rented it in 1930 and stayed there for 50 years at least. It was rent controlled so in 1980 he was only paying $75 a month. He traveled the world on all of his vacations with all the money he saved by having a modest place.
Thank you for sharing your grandfather's story. He had a wonderful life doing what only a few of us would even consider. It's wonderful when follow your dreams.
I can’t imagine that’s good for people in the long run. Landlords will not spend any money in keeping up properties that are unprofitable and investors will stay away from such properties too.
I love his attitude, his sense of order, his level of gratitude and actually his comfort. New York is crazy with what landlords get away with. This guy is a great example!!!
It's not just a room. It is your home and your space. It's where you will make memories, and they don't take up storage. I think you have done well and made this space into a home. God bless you ❤
I like the attitude of this young man and the manner in which he has accepted his present situation .Instead of complaining ,he has adapted so well and turned this tiny apartment into a home and filled it warmth and positivity. He has learnt the first lesson of life either find a solution or accept .Such wisdom in one so young is quite amazing .
A good lesson to learn: appreciate what you have at the moment! He is not homeless, he has food, water, health, he is young and positive! So many people complaining, and they have so much, and they don't appreciate anything at all!Good luck to you and God bless!
Just lovely. I am a native New Yorker and I lived with my daughter in a one bedroom tiny tiny apartment in the Bronx. I felt blessed and very happy to have a home. You are blessed..bottom line. Don't let anyone judge you or your cute little home..yes it is your home..and home is what you make it. Enjoy and I will keep following you just because you seem nice and down to earth. Positive vibes your way young man!
I agree. At his stage of life his tiny home is working for him. Of course he should feel proud! One day he may outgrow it. Until then, it's home! Nothing to be ashamed of at all. God bless!
I lost my apartment in 2013 & ended up living with a friend for 5 years. I found I don’t like living with anyone. I have my own space now. I’m in a studio. I been in it for 5 years. I don’t like having one main living space. It’s ok. Pretty nice studio with free 24 hr laundry. Utilities & basic cable & free Wi-Fi on main floor
You have everything you need! A place to keep you out of the weather, a place to prepare and store food a place to sleep. Today I feel that most of us have WAY more than we need!
I love it & $1100 a month with everything is a fantastic price! I also love those beautiful lil houses. I actually live in a mobile home it's beautiful! I used to be all snotty & stuck up & would always dog trailers & ppl whom live in them! I own my mobile home & you will never own an apartment!!! Always remember that! But very beautiful to see your NYC apartment! Best wishes & luck!
I know! I just wonder why New York City apartments don't have more built-in storage like Korea does! If you look at some Korean apartment tours they are just as small but you can store so much more! Everything is storage! Like I'm pretty sure America is one of the only countries that has like storage units and so everything just comes with built-in storage and built-in shelving and hidden shelving and hidden storage and I'm obsessed! Just why doesn't New York City do this?!
I don't know why anyone would sneer at a young person just starting out in life. Your positive attitude and imaginative use of and gratitude for what you have is an inspiration.I wish you all the best for your future, which I'm sure will be a bright one
I'm not so sure that it's sneering (he did a great job with what hd had) so much as questioning the allure of NYC. I lived in Manhattan for 3 years, so I get it. But I made enough to live comforatably. There are certain careers and lifestyles that can only be had in New York. But I feel like so man people feel the need to check the box off as a right of passage when they would be just as happy starting their lives off in a more livable but still fun and culturally rich city.
@@UltimoDogLover It's the same in London. There's some professions where you have to earn your stripes in the city for a couple of years before you can move on. I don't think even London is as expensive as New York though
I don't think anyone is sneering at him so much as worried that he's throwing his money away. He's a barber. He could literally work anywhere else and get cheaper living quarters that are ten times as big for less money. I guess I just don't get the draw of bankrupting ones self just to live in a city. They are pretty much all the same: noisy, crowded, polluted and expensive.
@@heatherkingston1445 NO! Not all cities are the same. I live in New York City now after living sixty years in Los Angeles. New York City has an "energy" and a "vibe" that few other places have. It is so so so worth it, to sacrifice financially to live here. I love it here. I will never go back to Los Angeles.
This is great! Tiny homes, tiny spaces are in. I think you've done a great job at making a tidy, organized, and cozy space for yourself. 1,100.00 rent, including everything, is a steal in New York. Very smart.
Tiny places are in? Probably due to poor economy and lost dreams. when people came to America it was a dream to build your own homestead with land growing food etc. We’ve come a long way haven’t we?
Idk, but looks a lot cleaner, safer and nicer than a lot of tenements seen in photos of old? No paper plastered on walls for warmth? Whole families sharing one bed? Shoes without holes in them? The economy is always fluctuating. The American dream is about the pursuit of happiness, a better life. It was never a guarantee. My family has always struggled financially...Many people do build better lives eventually. It usually doesn't happen overnight, that's for sure.
@@deliafredericks7578 But he doensn't have a kitchen. He has a hot plate and a fridge. Also, an apartment comes with a bathroom. He doesn't have that either. I'm not saying it's a not a nice place, but I'd call it a dorm room too.
Watching your video is a testimony to the relativity of life. Someone who lives in a 2 or 4 or 10 million dollar mansion might feel they had been thrown into a jail cell, while someone in Africa living in a mud hut with no electricity or running water might feel they had a mansion. As I have gotten older, I have learned to be thankful for what I have, and let go of aspirations of greatness. Losing my mother and father have brought it home to roost that no one takes anything with them when they go. Appreciate what you have, life goes by very quickly...
@@kh5322 well I don't know about anybody else but I think it's a lot more comfortable than a mud hut in Africa and I would choose it anyday over the mud hut.
@prissilou. I agree. It's a matter of degree. We have a grotty house which is like a box but I am so greatful we have a roof to shelter and a couple of small bedrooms to rest our head and 4-5 other spaces (small rooms). The only thing I think is really bad on this video is that people have to share a bathroom and that the sink is so tiny and not like a normal kitchen sink and looks more like a handbasin in a toilet. This guy is well organised though and he has made it look good and I really like that he is content. One of my sons rents a one bedroom place and he has it looking so good. He has great flair for keeping things tidy, clean, and rather amazing with a few bits of furniture and his few possessions. He regularly purges things. Some young guys are way better housekeepers than I could ever be. My son has a kitchen, sitting room with small deck, good sized bedroom, and bathroom/shower/toilet room in one. I think unless you were a young fit person like this nice young guy, one could get some claustrophobia there if they couldn't go out much.
It doesn't matter whether it's a shack or a castle, to have a place that you can call home is all that matters. You have done a great job with your apt. 👍
it does matter, some have claustaphobia or anxiety issues you cannot live in such a small space without it worsening or mentally or emotionally affecting you...and the energy in it is not going to move around as well,....lots of reasons ....not everyone is the same , it does matter
What a breath of fresh air. Not only does your apartment have a cozy and welcoming vibe, you have been very clever in your arrangement and use of minimal space. I envy your lack of "stuff," which most people have far too much of in my opinion.
It made me chuckle when he used the word "hoard" to describe the shelf of stuff hidden behind the black sheet above his kitchenette. Comparing to my stuff, he's a minimalist to the extreme! LOL.
I think it's adorable. You are blessed to have found something so affordable in NY city. We are all out here doing what we can to survive. You're doing great.
I really like this guy's attitude. He has created a nice home for himself and he's proud of this accomplishment. And he should be. He makes things work in such a tiny space! I love his place and think that he has made good choices about storage, etc. To top it off, he lives in a great area! And I have to say he is very cute.
Wow, what a nice young man who’s so positive about life and what you make of it. He seems happier in his 95 sq ft than some people I know in 3500 sq ft. It’s all about your happiness and love of life. We need more like him!

Your apartment is so much more than "just a room" You've thought of everything and been incredibly resourceful setting it up. It's a lovely cozy space that you can be proud of. Thanks for sharing!
As a former NYer (Manhattan - East Village), I spent all my years there in studio apartments. They were bigger than this, but I've always loved the "challenge" of making a wee space comfortable and functional...and you've done this. Having a space of your own is so important, and if you lived with roommates, your bedroom wouldn't be much bigger than this anyway (prices in NYC are insane right now), and you'd have no privacy. This is great!
My first apt after leaving home was a small one room place, too. I absolutely loved it!! But then I had my own bathroom and shower in it. The rent was a small fraction of yours, with all utilities included. I do like what you have done to organize and decorate your home. It is your home and you are proud of it and happy. Who could ask for more?!
He made the most out of his room and put a lot of thought and love into his furnishings and dekoration. As tiny as it is, it' a cosy space for peace of mind. So much better than sharing a bigger appartment with one or multiple room mates for sure. He is a lovely guy with great style and a lot of positivity.
You have a roof over your head and you’ve done an amazing job of making it a cozy place to live. There are lots of people who are converting to tiny house living. If you enjoy your home don’t be concerned about what anyone else thinks. Thank you for sharing.
Your delivery, demeanor, and extraordinary positivity are thoroughly engaging. (being so good looking doesn’t hurt either.) You embody the true spirit of New York, I love to see it. Very glad you’re one of us! :) And btw… your place is cozy & so nicely organized, well done! 🙌
Good for you Alex!!! You have your head on straight! I'm at the other end of life (78) and, if I've learned anything, it's that a huge collection of things and toys just doesn't matter. Keep what you need and love and, otherwise, LIVE!!!
Am a Canadian living in Florida and have met a lot of New Yorkers who have moved to Florida bec of the cost of living. You are amazing; I have 2 boys who are probably same age as you and I am hoping they can just be as positively oriented as you. Kudos to your parents for raising you well!
The Floridian cost of living is rising higher and higher. I recently left Florida after residing there nearly all my Life. I've purchased a large and lovely home outright, in cash, in a small, quiet town in Ohio. I would have never been able to purchase outright in Florida.
This is so sweet. It humbles me. It makes me reevaluate my own space and my own things and how much respect and appreciation I show for anything I have. I’m proud of you. You’ve made a lovely home for yourself 🥹

Tiny living is really quite liberating. I am very impressed with your use of space. Dang! You even have a full size refrigerator in there.

I would guess that you haven't thought carefully about what it is actually you want out of life. What basically are you needs and why you're in 5,000 sq ft if that is not what you want and need. Focus on what it is and work towards that end. You may be surprised. From an 81 yr old lady who learned one thing, there are always options.
Your apartment is clean, neat, and adorable! You’ve made it your own and everything has its place! The inclusive price per month is phenomenal for NYC. You are happy and appreciative with what you have and anyone commenting negatively is only because they’re the opposite of you ... they’re miserable! Ps: I love the fact that you are a barber! And very jealous of your hair 🤣

Dawn Smith, That place would be to tiny for my big German Shepherd!!!!! Not that I would ever let him live in something so dam small. It's a casket!!!!!
Here in the Midwest my first place was called an “efficiency”. It had a full kitchen, 4 piece shower a dressing area, three closets and a living room with a bed nook in the corner. It was just mine and I loved it. My own space. All my furniture was hand me downs but like you I made it my own. That was 45 years ago. Enjoy your home and your life!
I've lived in so many small spaces. My favorite trick is to put a cutting board over the sink. I use it for expand the counter space and I put a dish pan on it to do dishes. I got a collapsible dish pan in the rv section at Walmart. I love your space!
He can store a folding chair for his guest under the bed. Also sell the "horder " items because someone else might really be interested in that. You can buy it back on eBay once you move to a larger apartment.
I live in the Bay Area, and have an apartment under $1200, which is amazing. It used to be the master suite to the neighboring unit, therefore, as an apartment it's pretty small. 10X14, not including the closet and bathroom. (maybe another 60sf). It didn't come with a kitchen, so I floated hardwood floors throughout the room, built a 3/4 wall to divide the room, built a murphy bed over a small section, installed ceramic tiles in the bathroom, covered the existing sink with a huge farmhouse sink as a vessel (no sink in the bedroom) added 3 base cabinets, convection oven / everything else over, 2 2-burners and frig. So now it it pretty much fully functional as an apartment. I even have a tiny "office" area between the kitchen and living room. It's kinds amazing what you can do with limited space. Good job working it out.
This is so cute! Glad you’re enjoying your time in the City. Great location, reasonably priced (relatively speaking), easy to keep clean. Not having a bathroom is hard, but you seem okay with that. Feels like a college dorm with some extra perqs …most especially, privacy. I admire your great attitude. Good job!

Oh how I wish "dressed well" would become popular again! Nowadays people seem to dress as sloppy as they can get & call it 'casual'. The lack of modesty is absolutely appalling.
I love your little home. The size of the house doesn’t matter. What matters is how much love is in it.Enjoy your life and always be the sweet man that you are now
My favorite apartment I ever had was the studio apartment I had when I was a senior in college. I basically just needed crash space, and it was perfect. It was one furnished room with a small kitchen and a bathroom. It was awesome! Hardly any space to clean and I had a pullout bed in the couch.
Thank you for sharing your home with us! You have done a marvelous job of making your apartment a true “home!” The size of the space one lives in does not make it a home. The love you put into the space makes it a home. You are a very delightful person with great looks and personality. I hope you have or will have a special person in your life. Best of luck in all you do!
It does not matter what other people thinks. If it is your home, then only that matters. I had a tiny apartment of 100 square feet in Mexico with my husband and now I have a tiny 350 square feet apartment in India where I am living alone (it may seem bigger than 100 square feet apartment, but in reality much more cheaper than that). As a journalist I have to shift my bases according to my job requirements. Your tiny apartment gave me a feel of my previous home at Mexico. People always try to judge me but I never pay any attention to them. So you are right too not to give attention to them.
I absolutely love your place. I live on the West Side in Washington Heights and my place is small too, but I love it as well. Home is our sanctuary, and it's where we live. Your place is clean, and you utilize the space so well. It's great. It has great light, and seems so peaceful. Thank you for sharing.
Great job! Kinda minimalist & refreshing. Location is great, and closed containers are so important to minimize bugs. Everyone is out and about so much in New York, you really just need a clean and convenient place to lay your head. 🙏🏼
I have watched many, many Tiny House vids, but I must say, I have never watched one such as yours, which gave me such joy! I didn’t want it to end! You exuded humbleness, happiness and contentment and love with what you have. I love how you have made your space work for you. Well done 👏🏾 The description I would say is ‘Tiny Cottage Apartment’.
This is a great realistic representation of one person living space in NYC. The location is key to what’s available for what price. Your quarters are similar to being in a dorm at college, not too bad especially for someone as youthful as you are but I can see all types of people living here. Bummer about the mattress fiasco. It sounds like you’re very practical and adapt easily to adversity which makes you qualified to judge a tiny space like this. Everything seems intact-no holes in the ceiling, hot water, window providing light. It’s the little things making your place a home.
That place has a good vibe and I think it's because you have a good vibe. It's amazing how cleverly you organized everything and how lovely it all looks. Oh, and cleaning must take you 10 minutes! A definite bonus. 🙂🧡

Your parents raised you well . Many blessings you have there. It's nice to see a mature, well adjusted young person. Good luck to you ! Very nice arrangement of your home .
The only thing I would say to be a deal breaker is no hathroom!
I can’t imagine that’s good for people in the long run. Landlords will not spend any money in keeping up properties that are unprofitable and investors will stay away from such properties too.
U have a great attitude. Thank u for sharing ur apartment. I like it & could live in it if there is an elevator.
Your grandfather was smart when he was young to get such a deal and stay there. He deserved all the extra money he saved.
God bless you ❤
As long as you are comfortable and happy, then that's all that matters.

Everyone deserves a space of their own, a place to contemplate, a place to rest and a place to grow. You've built a beautiful one!

Virginia Wolfe said it 100 years ago..and said it best
A place that is SAFE!
Who cares what anyone says. This is so cute, clean and it's nice to see how you live in such a tiny space. Very cute.
Never explain Never apologize. If your live is as much as you seem to appreciate, celebrate it!!
I doubt that there would have been a positive reaction to a much older person living there.
You either love NYC or u don’t. Imagine the rent they command for the pleasure.
Very smart.
How. 😅😅
are in because this world is going to hell and the few people who govern it are pushing this idealized idea.

Whatever state you are in to be content.
Ive seen african mud hut bigger than this. This is just depressing

I agree 💯👍.

Considering the “coffin” and “cage” homes in Taiwan, this is a mansion in comparison lmao
it does matter, some have claustaphobia or anxiety issues you cannot live in such a small space without it worsening or mentally or emotionally affecting you...and the energy in it is not going to move around as well,....lots of reasons ....not everyone is the same , it does matter
What a breath of fresh air. Not only does your apartment have a cozy and welcoming vibe, you have been very clever in your arrangement and use of minimal space. I envy your lack of "stuff," which most people have far too much of in my opinion.
I agree, it’s an aspirational amount of organization most of us can’t achieve in larger (not by much) spaces in NYC.
Wonderfull!!! Cool guy with a unique style. Love his home!
It made me chuckle when he used the word "hoard" to describe the shelf of stuff hidden behind the black sheet above his kitchenette. Comparing to my stuff, he's a minimalist to the extreme! LOL.

I have great respect for this guy making a home out of this small space. He has done a wonderful job!
Mirrors! On your door and maybe across the storage nook, it will reflect the light from your window and make the space seem so much bigger. 😊

THIS! Exactly what I keep envisioning for my similar size room.
I don't want several rooms and a full kitchen EVER again.

The description I would say is ‘Tiny Cottage Apartment’.
Dude, this is so cool. Mad respect. Wish I had an apartment just like it, honestly! :)
