If I was needing a place to stay for over a week but less than a couple months, it would be perfect. I could cook for myself and clean my laundry but no extra services. Would a tourist want an extended stay in that area?
@@TokyoLensExploreI love videos like this! Just as much as the edited, curated ones. Everything you do is fun and interesting and I truly enjoy the content you put out and being a member of Patreon. Thanks for all you do Norm. Can't wait to meet one day! :)
These are legitimately my favorite videos because it feels more realistic than big travel blogs. Like this is clearly a real place that real people stay at. In fact, it's almost like getting a digital postcard from a friend who wants to share their travels with someone who couldn't come along. Which is wonderful :)
That was far less tiny than I had expected, seemed like a really nice apartment and I could easily see myself staying at a place like that for some time.
Norm said he injured himself again. Which makes me wonder about his past with martial arts and drifting and how did he make it this far without losing limb or worst.
Wow! Your flat was much bigger than I thought; and I misunderstood as you were calling it a room and showing us the communual toilets and showers, I thought you just had a room. That's a flat with living, sleeping, bathroom and kitchen! It looks great!
I remember the hermit in the mountains - one of my favorites! It was so obvious the amount of work you put into that one. I recall you were corresponding with the only person who could get you to the elderly gentleman. Not just anyone could go there and you could not get there by car. I can see why the process was long, but your hard work paid off! That video touched me and still affects me to this day. I hope you are someday able to do a follow-up on him. As for smaller but still interesting content, it's just great to see an upload from TokyoLens! Thanks for the tour, it's a really cool place! Take care! ❤️
Norm, we also enjoy spending this time with you. It’s weirdly calming and a great way to de stress to just check out these cool spaces with you. It also gives me ideas of places to check out because I will visit Japan one day.
I think the whole hotel setup is amazing! So carefully thought out with enough shared spaces to compensate for the basic rooms. Clean, bright and inviting. It really makes you think about the amount of wasted space we have in North American housing. It would probably be too confining for some people (and, as you pointed out, there's a potential for head injuries!🤣) but it shows what can be done with small spaces if care is taken in the design and planning. Thank you for the tour. I enjoyed it immensely!. Also, thanks for not blowing off the roof in that wind! I know you want to fly, but that is definitely not the way!😂
@phillydisco Sadly, I think you are probably right. This is not to say that in Japan you find people who do not take care of their surroundings (that happens everywhere) and in this particular case, it's a hotel so people that come here have self-imposed behaviours that are culturally expected of "guests". In North America, there is a sense of entitlement that, in extreme cases, leads to the kind of hotel horror stories you hear about. That being said, I think the model of space utilization would be appropriate for low-income housing, so long as the residents feel that they have a stake in keeping the place in good nick.
It may be "wasted space", but we aren't short on space. And I don't think anyone would willing do without a private bathroom at home. If Americans were a little more comfortable with shared facilities, hotels could definitely serve more people, though.
I always liked the energy you bring to any and all places you visit or talk about! Also, big ups for the owners to let you film the place, looks like fine place to dine and stay! Keep doing what you do and do it with your own pace and style, my man!
Absolutely would stay here! It has such cute and cozy calm vibes!! And even though that rooftop was crazy windy, I feel like that gorgeous view would be worth it!!!
I would most definitely stay there if I could! My favorite part was the rooftop bbq area. I love the feeling of wind on your face and the views! Those clouds and the mountains were a beautiful play of light and shadow, and I can just imagine what having a nice, hot cup of coffee there would be like. Thank you for sharing such a lovely place with us.
One day! I have been saying this every year for the past 40 years that one day I will go see Japan... :( and every year something gets in the way. I would sell my spleen to be able to spend a month or lifetime in Japan. Lucky for me, I can find youtubers/creators that share their love of this country and the passion for their culture. thank you for sharing I cannot wait till I see your next adventure. I would love to visit this cool little hotel/apartment!
Love your enthusiasm in all your videos. You manage to make the ordinary "extraordinary". Sure wish you could visit Sakura days in Vancouver. I missed it last year.
I love your main channel vids, and appreciate how much time and effort you put into them. But I also love videos like these. You are really good at explaining Japanese culture. I have learned a lot from you over the years. I'm finally going to be putting all that knowledge to use in October, coming to Japan for a month. Can't wait to see the Japanese streets at night and relaxing and exploring. Thanks for all you do, and congrats on the impending 1m subs! Awesome job Norm.
I really enjoy your videos. My brother has lived in Japan for over 20 years. I have been to visit once and really loved it. Your videos give me more of a view of other areas in Japan other than where my brother lives and when I visited Mt Fuji and Tokyo.
I didn't realise I wasn't subscribed to this one as well, but worry not that was quickly remedied, thanks for sharing just the everyday with us, this was nice and felt like you were giving a friend a tour of your place, appreciate it as always Norm, keep up the great work :D

Congrats on 1 mill subscribers, Norm! You have been gaining pace since I discovered you - not that long ago. I have been binging your videos - love your content. Especially when you are on and about outside of Tokyo, shrine/hiking/scenery (with the Kei-cars
I just found your channel today as I’m visiting Japan in the future and wanted to get some information on the areas I’m interested in visiting. I started watching two hours ago and have enjoyed all of your videos tremendously. I cracked up at the thrift store vid as that reminded me of my sister and I who love thrifting. I’m no longer anxious about visiting Japan thanks to the information you’ve shared in these videos. I hope your body is healing well after your accident as it must have been a shock to your system. I love these little adventures Norm brings us along on. @9:10 I see the epic camera rig you have for this tour. As a celebration of 1M subs, how about a then and now with your first Video on the @TokyoLens channel.
I always appreciate the small town/rural videos. I've been able to visit Japan four times now, and I love visiting the smaller cities - Kagoshima, Aoshima and Miyazaki in Kyushu are all great places to visit! The large cities are also great but I've always found the people in the smaller towns to be super friendly and helpful. I'd love to see a video of Sengan-en in Kagoshima, that estate is beautiful!
I have been watching you for like a year now. I think every video you make is nice, enjoyable and entertaining to watch. Imo there are not many youtubers or people that can do that. Videos that you may take months or years working on and videos that you may take 1-2 hours or even streams that are live, you are in all of them, energetic, happy and you always display your passion for what you are doing. Thank you for the enjoyable content and hopefully you will continue to find ways to make it interesting and enjoyable for you too.
That place is actually really nice. I'd definitely stay there for a more extended period of time. It has everything you need plus more. I'm glad you're still enjoying content creation. I agree with a good balance of chill walkthrough videos and your bigger projects.
What a great apartment! I love the location and all the amenities and would definitely stay there. In 2010 I was on a long road trip across the US and Canada and I loved how everything I really needed fit in a suitcase and a backpack and I could just get in my car and drive all day to see new things. It was really fun to see how few things I needed to carry around to function.
Thank you, Norm for sharing your space with us and exploring the building! This is why I watch you, plus you're full of knowledge. I hope to visit Japan one day😊
I could almost smell this place! I've only been to Japan once and it was over 20 years ago, but the subtle yet distinct odour - and it's not bad - of a Japanese café I can still somehow remember.
Norm! Love this channel and love Tokyo Lens. The livestreams and hikes and hidden shrines are collectively phenomenal. I think to celebrate 1,000,000, I'd love to see a harder climbing hike, maybe to celebrate the climb to one million and recognize the beauty after the climb. I think it would be a beautiful and simply powerful experience to share.
This was my favorite room of the ones featured on Instagram. It's a tiny unit, but I've seen so many of those micro apartments lately and they blow my mind.
Thanks for the video Norm! I enjoyed this format and just small tour of just an interesting place. Also I got real Mr. Rogers vibes when you were talking about how you like the smaller platforms for connections. Just nice, wholesome, and felt like you were talking directly to me.
Wow the scenery is so beautiful thank you for all you do. You are one of my favorite people to watch. The sweater I got from your site is so soft and I get so many compliments on it and I get to share you with people!
I do hope your injuries healing well man. Thank you a lot for all the content that you put onto your channels for us to watch. Specially since many may not be able to go to the land of the rising sun any time soon.
You always produce such fun and informative vids , so happy to watch them . . I actually expected that room to be much smaller , it's pretty much about the size of an American studio apartment. Good luck on your road to a million subs . . cheers!
It's hard to impress me with small living spaces, and I'm the kind of person who doesn't like many shared spaced, but I'm surprisingly impressed with this. It looks comfortable for both short- and long-term stays, the views are nice, and everything you need is right there.
Subscribed recently and loving the content. If your thinking of doing something special for the main channel, maybe just talk about your experience as a foreigner in Japan, like kinda just a reflection from when you started living there to now.
I really should try to put Kagoshima on my itinerary at some point. That place looks like a really nice place to stay! Big comfy rooms with all the amenities. Ahh! We'll see!
This place looks amazing 😍. I love all the intricate details and how clean it is. I would happily stay there. Stay safe Norm 🫶 and I'm looking forward to your next video
Thank you so much for your videos. Such positive energy and commitment. I also really really liked the videos about the tiniest shop; it was like cult to watch the purchase of the shop, wow. You set a high standard for video blogs and especially the topics. 👌🏻
Compared to the spaces we usually see you in... you could've told us this room was Tokyo Dome and it'd be believable, it's practically massive compared to most of them. You can full arm spread multiple times over in multiple directions in that room unlike many of the others where you'd be lucky to get elbow room in at least one dimension.
Norm it is such a joy to join you on your travels. Your way of sharing the local sights, buildings, the culture and thoughts are insightful and informative. Appreciate how respectful you are in considering those around you, structures, actions and spaces that are shared in your videos. Not all places outside of the bigger city areas seem to consistently have instructions/signage in english. How long was it before you were comfortable navigating areas off the beaten path? 🇺🇸🙂
You know Norm is gonna be in the bath room playing with the Super Soakers and going down the slide 😂 This looks like such a lovely place to stay! Love your videos Norm! 💕
I think it's a fine place to stay although I think that the slide would probably be a bit on the small side for me 😅 I would say it looks an interesting place and the cafe area looks good for doing a little light work
I had to look into the website to realize you are in the Southern most part of Japan. This makes sense as it is winter. I hear it is a huge contrast between that and the Northern most part of Japan.
I don't think you have to worry about the hammock chair. The hooks that hold them up are usually rated for ~350-400lbs (158-181kg). Not to say that you shouldn't take care when getting in them (you don't wanna flop onto it like a beat-up couch in a frat house), just that it's not dangerous to sit in.
I always wondered if other countries have posters of random American letters or sayings like we do of other countries, my question was answered @4:32 XD
Subscribing to this channel. I love the main channel content but this reminds me of the first time I saw you. I first stumbled on you doing a live neighborhood exploration during the pandemic so this format is welcome.

I want to take a trip to Japan and go on a Norm route.
The real MVP is Norm's hair for staying perfectly in place even in high winds.

most hotel rooms i've had during my trips in japan were tinier than this place.

Thanks for tagging along!!
360 mountain views, that's something I'd love to have. No wonder it's so windy. I bet during the spring and summer those mountains are gorgeous.
they truly are!
Norm said he injured himself again. Which makes me wonder about his past with martial arts and drifting and how did he make it this far without losing limb or worst.
lol its truly a miracle lol
Clearly his injuries only apply to everyday scenarios
@@EmberMoonprincess92 His name is Norm so he breaks himself

Norm it is such a joy to join you on your travels. Your way of sharing the local sights, buildings, the culture and thoughts are insightful and informative. Appreciate how respectful you are in considering those around you, structures, actions and spaces that are shared in your videos. Not all places outside of the bigger city areas seem to consistently have instructions/signage in english. How long was it before you were comfortable navigating areas off the beaten path? 🇺🇸🙂
You know Norm is gonna be in the bath room playing with the Super Soakers and going down the slide 😂
This looks like such a lovely place to stay! Love your videos Norm! 💕
LOL busted!
I think it's a fine place to stay although I think that the slide would probably be a bit on the small side for me 😅
I would say it looks an interesting place and the cafe area looks good for doing a little light work
I love these sorts of videos and we are so thankful to have you share them with us!
So glad to have been watching for as long as I have. Great video Norm! Can't wait to see you hit that 1mil.
In my view, your living the dream! Thank you for your videos.
I love it! When I visit Japan at the end of the year, if I'm in the area I'll keep this place in mind!
..well, it has everything what one needs👌. There is a laundry area. .. cooking area... and it is well kept.
Subscribing to this channel. I love the main channel content but this reminds me of the first time I saw you. I first stumbled on you doing a live neighborhood exploration during the pandemic so this format is welcome.
Great little apartment and such an adorable hotel space!
