  • During my second visit to The Grove in Newport, TN my brother tags along to assist me with painting of the exterior of my 8 x 20 Incred-I-Box as part of the Incredible Tiny Homes community. We spent three days fighting "mother nature" and working very hard to paint two sides of my tiny home. I will explain the process and the paints used. In addition, there will be an interaction between myself and my brother David. Also, we will present some exciting news at the end of the video presentation regarding my RUclips channel.

    Kind of your brother to help you. I agree about both the spigot and the driveways.
    When I went to Quartzite to see the Iboxes in person, I was surprised by just how small they are, and how truly sparce they are with few electrical outlets, etc. Once I saw them in person, I started called them Franken-boxes because they remind me of Frankenstein's monster all patched together with all the metal brads all over.
    You can't beat an Incredibox on price, though, especially when you compare it with being homeless. It's a safe, dry, warm place to put your life together. Yes, a spigot would be nice, and it would've made sense for a regular home, but with a yard that tiny, all you'll need is a jumbo watering can.
    I've lived small to tiny since 1995, and honestly, it has NOT gotten easier, only more difficult. I can live small 350-500 sq ft, but less than that, and it gets severely claustrophobic real quick, and I have 13 ft ceilings.
    Few things were worse than being on lockdown in a 7.5 x 16-foot space...with no yard...and common halls and elevators. At least there, you'll each have your own teeny "yard". I had to get an additional 5 x 15 storage unit for seasonal things, like snowboarding gear, scuba gear, boxes of taxes and memorabilia. Tiny home storage SUCKS, which is why I'll likely go back to small living after 8 years living tiny. You barely have room to stand up and stretch out. You can gain weight very quickly during winter if you don't force yourself out in the cold temps to go on daily walks.
    Some days, I log 55 steps...the ENTIRE day, and that is not good. Definitely get outside everyday. lol

    Love the color's! While looking at the rivets/seams on the inside, while you painted, it reminded me of a 70's mobile home I owned in the 80's. It had dark paneling throughout, so I used a textured paint, (can be tinted to any color) with a thick, wiry roller, not unlike stucco, (they have many types of roller designs) which really helped to camouflage the paneling. I was surprised at how good it turned out. I'll bet that would work on the inside of these tiny home's, and minimalize the appearance of the rivets and seams, with no more work than regular painting. What color is the door going to be?

    • @VanLifeStorytelling
      @VanLifeStorytelling  Год назад +1

      Fayanne, good point and wonderful insight on your part. I think that I am using a 1/2 inch brush. We both were tapping the points of our brushes directly into the rivets to cover. The front door is going to be a Rockwood Clay color from Sherwin Williams. I plan to start painting it the next visit if the weather allows me.

      Brenda, thanks so very much and I sold my pleasure way van to pay for most of the two tiny homes. However, to get both of them furnished is taking WAY more money than I liked. Wishing you the best with purchasing your own tiny home.

    • @brendaelk69
      @brendaelk69 Год назад

      Yes, it is costly to furnish at the beginning. The monthly cost after getting one paid for is what is so great! The utilities are cheaper and so is upkeep. Keep in touch so I will know how you are doing. Are you living in one or using them as an income generator only? I am so excited about ITH and what they are doing. It is an awesome thing for seniors to live and be around other like minded people! You have done a good job with getting your homes to make folks want to stay in one for a visit or longer! Good luck to you!

    Thank You for sharing how you painted your Tiny Home. I plan on buying a tiny home from them a 10 x 28. I am thinking that I will let them paint the outside and I will do the skirting and I will paint the inside. I watched a video about the additional fees and I think painting outside, inside and skirting was $13,000?

    Hi,
    Nice color choice. Congratulations on 1000 subscribers. You and your brother make a great team. I know you did 2 coats of primer, then the paint. How many gallons did it you use for each?
    Confirming you wiped the exterior with white vinegar before priming?
    Thank you
    See you soon :)

    • @VanLifeStorytelling
      @VanLifeStorytelling  Год назад

      very good question, I think that I purchased two gallons of primer for the inside and the same for the outside. However, I run out and just purchased another gallon of primer to complete the inside. I purchased one gallon of the sage color and I purchased another galloon of sage too. I hope that helps and if you are just doing one coat of primer you would not use as much.

    Robert, I very curious about the siding on your tiny home. It looks like it overlaps, rather than side by side, either vertically or horizontally. I suppose cost is an issue with this type of structure. What is the composition of the siding?

    • @VanLifeStorytelling
      @VanLifeStorytelling  Год назад +1

      Charlie, my good friend all the walls both inside and out are door remnants from the leftover cut section of a metal door. Most metal doors are exterior doors and just like my door there is section replaced by glass as a window. The part that was "cut out" is the section of my walls. Each piece is screwed down from metal screws and that is why you see the rivets. If installed properly and laid over it should not leak. In fact, the walls are so study that you don't even require to paint them. However, much better to paint as my brother and I did. It is wonderful question and thanks for asking and I hope that I have answered it for you. God Bless my friend.
