    My mom had an unfortunate bed bug incident while visiting a friend. The medicine the doctor gave her wasn't working and she had terribly dry skin. I let her have the shea butter mixture that I made, for her dry skin and she called me and was so happy because her scars were slowly disappearing...not what we were expecting. I'm making 2 more right now. One for my hair and one for her skin. This is great. Shell be back to wearing sleeveless shirts in no time!

    I have to honestly say this product is AWESOME!! I bought the ingredients for it a while ago and I never made it. I just used it last weekend and I have to say God bless you!! My hair is nappy plus nappy plus more nappy! Yes but seriously 4d. I really am heavy handed so after I shampooed and conditioned my hair I heavily coated my hair with it because my hair had been severely neglected due to never finding agreeable products. I combed it through and twisted it. I left my twists in for a couple of days and then I took them down and my hair felt like silk. I then curled it with my wand. The curls came out fantastic and I covered my hair with a crochet slouchy cap to sleep in because I couldn't find anything else at the time and the next day they still looked phenomenal!! I just finger combed out one of my curls and my hair feels extremely silky and straight Omg!! I am in love now I have to order flaxseeds to make gel. This product is phenomenal thank you for taking time out to share it!!

    I've made this mixture for the second time today and I absolutely love it. I have excema and it works great for my skin. I've purchased the actual African black soap from a local African store in my state (not the imitations at Target or other health food stores) to bathe with and use this recipe as my lotion and it works great. I have also used it in my son's hair as well and its helped with moisture and his hair is growing faster, thicker, and seems to be healthier.
    For the ladies whom said their cream wasn't smooth, mine was not smooth the first time around either. This second time around, I melted my shea butter a little and I noticed my measurements of the oils were incorrect the first time. I mixed up tbsp with tsp on the jojoba oil. Once I corrected my errors and warmed the butter, it's a creamy texture now. Overall and at whichever texture, this mixture is great and I'll be using it many times over. Thanks for sharing this recipe with us.

    I just made these again...it's amazing. My daughter and I also make the flaxseed gel. GREAT products. I used the pomade today before using heat on her hair, and it protected and gave a shine. B/c there is no water, it's perfect for heat protection. We LOVE you, Whitney!
    I also tried the braided bantu's as a protective style for my five year old with water, oil mixture (from your site), and flaxseed gel...it lasts all week! and no tangles and minimum shed hair...we are SO happy.

    After first watching this a few years ago, I finally just made my first batch of shea butter mix! I didn't have all of the ingredients (gotta run out n' buy more vitamin E oil) but it felt wonderful all the same! Both my skin and hair love it! It's extremely satisfying mixing your own batch, storing it in a cute jam/preserve jar, and knowing for sure EVERY ingredient that you're putting on your hair and body. :)

    The first natural hair video I ever watched over a decade ago!!!!!!! I remember ordering all of this stuff on Amazon to start my natural hair journey after watching this video back in 2011 to create these very items. My hair thrived! I might go back to this. I know she got her own line now but, outside of the oil it doesn’t work well for my hair (I still buy to support her though and give them as gifts to people). So maybe it’s just something about creating your own stuff and truly knowing what’s going in your hair.

    I swear by this recipe, but I melt my oils on the stove with a double boiler method. (Bottom pot has boiling water; top pot has the butters/oils.) Works great with my twists by itself as an oil, or along with the flax seed gel. Great recipe!

    I just completed making this about 45 minutes ago and ALREADY my hair loves it... Monday is my wash day however I wanted to try a little on the area of my hair where I've removed my braids, so I sprayed my hair with water and applied it to the end and hair and omg!!!! The shine and feel of my hair from just that test application have me hooked!! Not to mention the way my curls looked (which was an unexpected surprised). Thank you so much for this!

    My hair was breaking/shedding badly and I've been using this recipe the last 2 weeks. I was looking to purchase something thicker because just oil wasn't working. I couldn't find anything but she mentioned this in one of her videos. 1) my twist out lasted a week. I probably could have gone a few more days but I'm a weekly washer. I've purchased all kinds of products. I did her wash and go method using this as my sealant...I have no words. 2)my hair use to dry out like no bodies business. Now it's so soft and more manageable. 3) I appreciate her hair journey. Watching my way from past to present gives me more confidence in what she shares and she makes it look so easy. 4) now I'm trying her diy deep conditioner, hair and body oil. I can only believe my hair is going to get healthier. Thank you Whitney.

    I make a version of this for my son who has (or rather had) eczema. I use my KitchenAid with the whisk attachment, and whisk the shea butter first, while getting the other ingredients ready. Then it only takes a minute to mix all the other stuff in. It's wonderful!
    This is not just for hair. It is amazing on skin. Your hands and feet will love you for this too!!!

I don't have natural hair, but I'll try to use this recipe anyway as an overnight hair mask or pre-poo treatment, because my hair has been so incredibly dry and frizzy lately (I'm not implying or stating that natural hair is, by the way, it's just how my hair's been acting lately and this recipe seems to moisturize very well). You CAN soften up the shea butter in the microwave. Change the power setting to 4-5 and turn on for a minute to 30 seconds at a time. You want soft shea butter, but not runny and completely melted.

    A few days ago at work, my Campus Director complimented my twist out and said it looked really moisturized. HE asked what I used, and I laughed because, I knew he probably expected me to say some company product. I told him it was homemade. He said he wanted some and said he was trying to get his hair like mines! He has a short cut with some twist at the top. I am going to surprise him and make him up a batch. I had this container for a while, and I put it away, but I just recently brought it back out. I am going to make myself some more, and begin to get back to taking care of my hair, and watching some of your old videos. I really need to get back to trying to take better care of my hair and my daughter's hair. I seen how your hair has grown, so I will be back watching more of your stuff and making more homemade goodness for our hair. Thank you. Please continue with these videos and what you're doing. You really are helping us and inspiring us. Don't sell out.

  • @CharroseKing
    @CharroseKing 8 лет назад +1

    I used a variation of the first recipe and my hair has never been SO SOFT! I first tried it loosely following the recipe. It seemed fluffy right after mixing, but eventually hardened. It was kind of like a pomade, which could be good for some styles. But it's not what I wanted. I eventually added more oils to it, including coconut oil, until I got very fluffy texture that looks like cake frosting or whipped cream. I have low porosity hair and trouble with products laying on top of my hair. But I was able to work this in very easily. and like I said, never been softer. (didn't hold my twist-out well, but that's fine.) This will def be my staple moisturizer.

I want to follow your and a couple other You Tubers that I feel use methods that are good for my hair not the new corporate trends of products for "naturals". Question: where do you buy the large essential oil I saw you use? I think it was jojoba? Also, do you know where to buy "pure" Shea butter? Thanks

    Firstly I chopped off my hair for my birthday 5th December 2015. My hair is currently 1.8 inches. I did all my research before my big chop and everyone says oils for sealing. However my 4a hair was not hearing that! It curled beautifully and styled even better but when it dried it just dry.
    NB. I don't use gel period!
    I was about to buy Olive Oil Moisturizer when I discovered YOU! Girl I and my tiny curls LOVE your CREAMMM!
    However I'd like to know if after sealing with it can I re-hydrate my hair later on in the day with water. Will the water penetrate the cream? In other words is this cream semi permeable?

    • @BiancaVolcy
      @BiancaVolcy 9 лет назад +8

      +Kishma Louis Congrats on becoming natural. :) I'd suggest you hydrate first then seal the moisture with an oil/butter mixture. Solely adding water will cause split ends. Use some aloe vera with 1 part water, seal with this creme or any oil/butter based creme and voila! Your hair will stay moisturized rather than giving that crispy/dry feeling.
      This creme isn't semi-permeable. I mean some of the water will penetrate but only a wee bit. Definitely not enough to hydrate your hair. That's why it's best to moisturize then seal. Hope I helped. Good luck and enjoy your natural hair journey!

    Thank you. I find these very helpful. I know this video was made a while ago, but just a tip or two for you!
    1 - FIFO- first in, first out.. don't put the new shea butter mixture over the old. You should always put the older batch on top of the new when filling a container. Think of it like food. You wouldn't drink a new bottle of almond milk you just brought home from the store until you finished your already opened bottle.
    2 - heat your coconut oil or anything in glass when microwaving, as toxins from the plastic will bleach into the product you are heating!
    Thank You. I really enjoy all of your videos. I think you are a tremendous inspiration!! : )

      It's beautiful. She was my inspiration for making my own hair products and have done so since Oct 2012. And this cream and the daily cream are great. I've since then come up with my own versions and tailored it to my own hair, and experimented with scents and different oil benefits. Whit is truly amazing. Have fun!

      Not true Bijou S sometimes these oils begin to smell rancid and they can go bad. just FYI

    • @cocotreasure
      @cocotreasure 10 лет назад +9

      ***** I dont know what happened to my other comment, but I said that the shea butter mix should be kept in the fridge to keep the mix from going bad.That is how I keep mine nice and fresh. If i know I am going to use them the next day, i may take it out the night before so it can get room temp.
      That's just what I do. Hope this helps

    I make body butters. I use shea butter, but choose to use refined butter because I add essential oil to the mix. I slightly melt the shea in the microwave. I use coconut oil 76* and at this time of the year it's relaxed. More slurry then stiff. I add a bit of kaolin clay as well. Then I whip the mix on high for several minutes. It goes in the fridge for about 20, whip, then cool, until you have the consistency you want. She butter is awesome!

      drivenpoet Of course you can use it for your baby, every ingredient is natural. However, you shouldn't need it for a baby that young. Their hair usually doesn't get dry

    • @MillennialEsther
      @MillennialEsther 9 лет назад +10

      You can most definitely use this on babies hair. Some of the children's hair products in the stores has some very unnatural ingredients in them. Since you are making the shea butter mixture you will know exactly what is going on your baby's hair ♡ Hope this helps.

    So day two of a twist out with this mixture (after doing the mayo/egg DC as well), and my hair looks great. Still soft, shiny, not tangling much, even after pineappling, which my hair usually hates. I used a pound of shea butter and a little goes a long way. It'll last me for the better part of year. I'm a believer! :)

    hey my natural sista
    like this video and a lot of your other videos. I have been natural for about 11 yrs. I have been making this for long time. I just want to say I have been using a mini chopper and it will whip this mixture for you. it actually has a button on it and you don't have to hold it. I got it from Walmart a while ago I think they still sell it but I don't think that button is on but it is a lot easier. keep making videos.
