    Just a couple hints for the other newbies out there:: It started to boil after about one minute on HIGH, and foam over almost immediately. I turned the heat to MEDIUM and it continued to boil nicely and only took about five minutes to be at what I thought to be the right consistency.

    omg this stuff is the bomb! i just made mine adding wheat germ oil (ceramides), sunflower oil (to soften coarse strands), jojoba oil (emoilents), my oil blend from my beautician, rosemary ess. oil, and lavender ess. oil. I just put it on a small section of my hair (half relaxed, half natural) and omg! My hair is actually moisturized and it held a curl in under 5 minutes with a flexirod. I'm usually lazy, and I never do DIY hair stuff, but naptural's hair is gorgeous so I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did. If you're hesitant on trying this and your hair is dry, coarse and hard to moisturize like mine, definitely try this. Thanks *****!
    ***UPDATE***
    In the recent flaxseed gel batch I made I pretty much eliminated all the oils in the recipe and just used ylang ylang essential and a little bit of rosemary essential oil just for scent and to preserve it. Without the extra oils, the gel had a much stronger hold and my hair wasn't crunchy the next day.

      Do you know if the essential oils are necessary? I don't have them and plus the ones I looked up online are kind of expensive. I don't think she mentioned whether you could do without the oils or not.

    FYI... A wire strainer works perfectly! No fuss whatsoever. I just sit a wire strainer over a large glass measuring cup and pour the hot liquid in there. Then move the seeds around in the strainer with a spatula and everything comes out just fine. Super quick and easy.

    Flax seed gel is a great substitute for eggs when you're cooking and baking too. I've made cookies, cakes, soups, used it as thickener for gravy, plus all sorts of stuff with it. I even make an imitation heavy cream with it by boiling the flax seeds in almond or coconut milk. You can do all the same things with chia seeds too.

    I'm soooo impressed w/this gel! Girl,thank you!!! I boiled my seeds w/lavender, rose & hibiscus. I added tea tree oil, eucalyptus & lemongrass e.o, & a little olive blossom f.o. For extra moisture, I mixed in some of my whipped shea butter hair & body butter. My hair is loving it, & I think this is 1 of the best things since sliced bread!!!

I used a wave cap though and it made it super easy to get it out I was at step three for squeezing in less than a minute. I added rosemary, lavender, emu oil, jojoba and sweet almond oil. It made my curls pop!!!! Thank you so much for being a wonderful help .

I chickened out and used my usual store bought gel BUT today, I decided to use my diy whipped Shea butter and flaxseed gel and I promise you- MY WASH AND GO IS PERFECTION!! Just made my second batch. The first batch lasted about 3 weeks. But the seeds from that batch molded, so I had to start over with fresh seeds.
    Super easy to make -- I just added a teaspoon of olive oil to the first batch, teaspoon of shea butter to this batch. I used a mesh strainer. It's a great replacement for regular gel and the twist-outs are stellar.

    My hair has never felt so soft and healthy since using flax gel. It's a staple of mine now. It used to be super frizzy and unmanageable all the time. Now I take it with me if I go to the beach or swimming also. Rinse my hair after, apply the gel and it refreshes my waves and keeps it super soft. I have a mix of 2a-2c bleached hair, and it truly puts so much moisture back into it.

    So, I know I'm not the only one who's watched this video a hundred times, PERPLEXED over wanting to try this recipe but extremely low on funds or maybe unable to get to a place that sells whole flax seeds. During one of many health kick months awhile back, I purchased some flax seed MEAL to add to my smoothies. Back to the dilemma, every internet source I'd found said gel from meal couldn't be done.....Well, I've SOLVED that problem and you're gonna smack yourself in the forehead in just a second. **Drum roll please? **.....#RepurposedTeaBags :-) #IWantPatentedRights lol...I just carefully undid the tea bags, refilled it with flax seed meal a tsp at a time and fastened it with a small safety pin. I used 4 bags full in maybe 2 cups of water, boiled them and stirred occasionally.I also added 2tsp of honey, a few drops of tea tree lavender EO, a glob of Aloe Vera GEL and a couple squirts of Vitamin E. It does take a little longer than 10 min...I averaged 30 per batch, but it saved me a few coins when i needed them...:-) Hope I've helped someone! Be blessed naturals! !

      Neftaly Macias visit a trichologist, dermatologist, or medical dr to rule out any internal problems that may cause hair loss. After that, always remember that brushing, combing, styling hair ect can cause mechanical damage if done improperly

    • @vixenluchelle
      @vixenluchelle 9 лет назад +3

      I agree with her^ about checking it out first. but there are so many things that can contribute to hair loss. It could be your diet, stress levels, products your using or your regimen, dehydration, or an actual medical problem that causes premature hair loss.
      I suggest drinking a lot of water every day, preferably how many lbs you weigh but in ounces. Also I suggest Jamaican black castor oil for your hair loss. It can be a bit thick though so I would dilute it or only use it at night if your hair is thin. By dilute I mean with a lighter oil like coconut oil or argan oil OR add a little to your conditioner. Also try pairing this with hair, skin, nails. And try eating healthy because you are what you eat.
      If your hair is thin I still think this would work for you. If not try something light and not too heavy because it doesn't sound like you need much.
      Allllso lol I recommend using a volumizing shampoo and conditioner to make your hair appear thicker and make it easier to hold a curl. I'd do my flexi's at night and use a very light holding spray in the morning before taking them out.
      WHEW sorry for the book but I hope this helps love :)

    So I just tried to make the gel for the first time but I tried to cut corners. And I kept the flaxseed s boiling to long so and my stocking was too thick. So my first try was an EPIC FAILURE. I am going to try it again but first I am going to dollar store getting real tongs and really cheap stockings. But I did save the seeds lol

      the oil helps preserve it, you can just use without the lavender and use other oils that don't have much of a smell, still same effect.

I will try it again because I love the idea of diy, natural products that are much better than manufactured, chemically induced produced. Thank you! BTW; followed your pre-poo routine for my daughter today (added a few extra yummies). I'm excited to see how her hair turns out!

      Sarieri Well if you used ground flaxseed then you wouldn't be able to strain it because the particles would be small and mix in with the gel

    • @kerducky
      @kerducky 8 лет назад +3

      Esebia Mantey Hello Esebia : )
      um my seeds last or remain fresh for a good 2 weeks if I seal them up and refrigerate them. Like 2 weeks ago I boiled some flaxseeds and I still have the used flaxseeds in a refrigerated container and they have not spoiled yet but I noticed that I only get 2-3 good boils out of the seeds and then after that they don't seem to produce as thick a gel.
      So I throw them out after my 2nd or 3rd boil.

    • @mekeaharvey5139

      If the package of seeds is sealed, you can probably leave them out (in cool, dry place) for several months. Once the package is opened it needs to be refrigerated immediately. A few hours shouldn't hurt, but if you can help it, I would recommend not chancing it.

    I made this last night after watching this video - OMG: I love this stuff. Day one of having it in my hair and I already see the difference. I didn't add all the oils as you listed to do so (I was in a hurry so couldn't purchase them - silly me), I would like to know how long my flax seed gel may last in this case? Thanks for all the videos - they are super helpful!

      Hey Latasha, so ive made the gel without the oils as well as with the oils and I find that with the oils, the gel is preserved for much longer. I usually make less when I do not have oils so that i use up the gel before is goes bad. Yes it goes bad, starts to smell - eeew. Good luck!!

    • @LatashaTrueHeart
      @LatashaTrueHeart 10 лет назад

      @LatashaTrueHeart 10 лет назад

      TheThobiism So I finally made and have nearly finished my first batch of flaxseed gel. And I have to say that I LOVE IT!!!! I've gotten results I've been wanting for some time: my natural curl pattern in a wash and go frizz free and crispless! I've done it three times and every time is GOOD! Thank you for the tip!

  • @JenniferDC

    Thank you so much for this! Just did it today and LOVE the results! My hair is finally happy! Thank you for this video.
    Side note: I did not have hosiery but did have cheese cloths on hand (found in the baking asle) worked great for me. [The strainer didn't work but it was a good suggestion.]
    Edit to add: I'm one of the unfortunates affected by DevaCurl so my curls have been lackluster and I don't trust hair products right now.

    How is this gel compared to like ecostyler?

    • @anonymizzle
      @anonymizzle 9 лет назад +1

      +Taliah Connor thats what i wanna know! i live by the eco gel. it defines my curls and keeps my hair manageable...but its drying and a little flakey so i've been looking for an alternative

    • @individuallyme8226
      @individuallyme8226 9 лет назад +8

      +anonymizzle the eco styler gel is a heavier gel with a little more hold. the flaxseed gel does have hold but it's a light gel. when your hair dries after using flaxseeds it will be soft. eco styler gel dries and makes the hair crunchy unless you use it with a conditioner/moisturizer.

      I didn't have tongs so I used two knives they worked good enough.. Though a lot of the product wouldn't come out but that's because of the stocking I used, I didn't splurge on some cheap stocking and tried to use my clean ones which were too thick.

    • @melyniesquire9941
      @melyniesquire9941 10 лет назад +1

      I don't even do the stocking thing. The gel is hot enough and thin enough to go through a strainer with tiny tiny holes. That works perfect for me. The gel gets really thick once it's cooled down.

I didn't add anything extra to the gel and on my first use I had dry white crust in my hair. thank goodness I hadn't washed my hair yet, I just wanted to get the gel off of my hands. Thank you very much your hair looks great by the way. I've been wearing my hair natural for the past 22 years. My hair goes down to the middle of my back and at first it was really hard to where it natural but now there's so much knowledge about curly hair its great. The first time I didn't relax my hair my beautician picked up a piece of my hair and said what do you want me to do with this. That's the last time I went to a black hair dresser because she just didn't know what to do. She was so determined that I get my hair relaxed. But I was sick of the break ends and having short hair thanks again bye.
