Thanks Pete, as you said, made it look simple and I’m sure it won’t feel like that when I try but love the 3-4 solid tips that I can focus on to give confidence to strike it... decelerating is always the killer, but I do that when nervous of the strike....
Great vid Pete, I've found that I'm using my putter a lot more in these dry firm conditions from off the green, if the grass is growing away from me the ball rolls over it nicely, if the grass is growing towards me I find the PW best for chips with good spin control. Keep up the great work 😎⛳

Thanks for the great content - this vid & the chipping over bunkers gave me some things to work on (in the house off the carpet from one room to the next down the hall), and it helped on the course. My home course has a lot of trees, and that gives 2 scenarios. 1 -the rock hard bare earth ground - chipping off that is a nightmare, as the bounce of the club isn't your friend. 2 - out of the rough, trying to keep the ball low enough not to climb into the branches of a tree, and have a result like Molinari in the 2019 Masters...
Because, if I'm missing the green, I'm not landing on fairway conditions...
Great video Pete. The average golfer uses too must wrist hinge around the greens especially off tight lies. They take 60 right away and it's all down hill for most of us. Really nice set of options and tips on using the 60 for tight lies. Awesome!

I've spent most of lockdown chipping off a piece of wool carpet into a bucket 15 yards away. I say into ... mostly near ... ish. And knifing some into the fence ... but less and less over the weeks. I have definitely got better at it.

I have been screwing around with this shot for YEARS. Everyone seems to have a different style for doing this. Yours was absolutely the most simple, basic way to hit that lob shot consistently.

Any chip with a fluffy lie I'm quite comfortable with, but even with the putting style I still duff the odd one on a fairway lie. So I've taken to using my hybrid. No duffs and I'm getting better at judging the distance. Great vid :)

Needed this video before this morning's round. Must try the fairway wood.
I’ve found my three hybrid is great for this also.
Agree with grant. Hybrid is even easier. I hybrid putt and bump/run with a hybrid quite often. It is remarkably consistent and easy to do.
I have no hybrids so will have to try a fairway wood.
Great tips on how to play that shot from those tight lies.

Nice looking course
As nice as it is to see the ball check up, if you're pitching that's not what you want unless you play for that on every shot. As Pete was demonstrating, consistency is the name of the game. I played a round this morning on a course that has wide fringes. I had totally forgotten about the fairway club! I utilized this years ago while I was improving my short game. As I improved I left the 5w in the bag. Time to dust off the green side wonder.
Id be interested to see a tutorial about hitting punches and low shots with irons. Always good to be able to get out of tree trouble. Cheers Peter!

I recently got a chipper putter combo that I find helps with tight lies. You get that little elevation of an iron but swing it like a putter.

My go to option is a 9 iron bump and run over the perimeter and have it roll out. Defiantly my go to option that I am most comfortable with.

When I use the wedge in a tight lie hit a good shot close and forget how I done it being happy I done that thank you for reminding me how to do it

i think these are the only type of chips i never mess up ironically , but wedge play is the one aspect of my game i’ve always been confident in. Long irons and woods are my weakness. 6 iron - 3 wood
Hi Pete, great vid. Do you think that the bounce angle makes the leading edge sit above the ground on a bare lie meaning that you will always hit it off the bottom grove unless you take the bounce off the club
Feel like the second to last shot shows the problem: where a medium length iron will give you decent results for no risk, there's always the possibility to hit it long/duff it with this shot. I practice it often, but almost solely use it when there's no other option

Thanks for this posting! Do you always hit it with a square face? I find it just a little easier with the face a touch open. Also, what wedge are you using (loft and bounce)?

Hey Peter would you mind doing your next video on pitch shots? Like 30-50yd-ish? Do you take a divot? Don’t take a divot? How do you play them? Great video by the way!
Tight, wet is a tough shot but add into the grain and that is a situation that will add shots to your score.

Yeah, those example spots should be putts, fairway/hybrid chips, or mid-iron chips all day for the average player. That being said, it's also good to get the practice in with the wedge for that short-sided tight lie below the surface of the green type chip shots. Also a good reason for having a high bounce wedge and a low bounce wedge in your bag.
Have to say I would tend to use my #5-hybrid or 7-iron for that sort of shot in my normal game
That said I'll give the wedge option a bash as soon as I can get to the practice area

You're right. When it's a little bit wet and super tight it does make it harder..
need some of those at Worplesdon! 6TH green is a nightmare
First of all your first option was the best always putt when you can if you have rough fringe to go through I use a 9 iron or PW not because of the loft but because of the bounce angle. A PW or 9 iron have very little bounce and less likely to thin the shot where as a high lofted club ie 60 degree has as much as 14 degrees of bounce and off a tight lie will come up off the turf and blade it across the green

What is meant by: avoid wrist hinge? I see Pete's wrists bending quite a bit at top of backswing with wedge shot
Like the point about aiming a few feet past the hole when using putter. I'm never sure how much extra to allow to deal with the fringe, so will try this one. My 60 has 14 deg bounce. Is this too much for this type of shot?

Your ability is obviously there but ur reaction is clearly still a mid handdi when ya do well 😂, I'm a mid player and I buzz off the spin even when it's finishes no where near the target. Love it
Thanks for the video. With this shot, my thoughts are "soft hands" and "relax right arm" otherwise i come across the ball or thin it.
One question though: can you repeat this video in February after a week of rain and the near-green area is a big spongy mudpit? thx
Can you tell us more about the SmithWorks wedge please?
Use a 9 or 8 iron if you’re not comfortable using a wedge. I was playing with a cat 1 golfer today, he said forget about practicing the long game. You need to practice putting & chipping every day, an hour to two hours. it’s so important. Most important part of the game: golf is all about the short game.
I think you need to practice all aspects of the game. You can have a world class short game but doesn't help much if you're constantly in the trees off the tee and can't hit a mid or long iron to save your life.
Please elaborate on your feet and club face alignment with the Lob Wedge...open and open or both square to your target?
Ugh! Ahh! That's on my Golf language every round. :)
