One of the great mental tips for these kinds of shots I heard from Nick Faldo, who advised not to think about what you DON'T want to happen, but think about what you do. So, don't think "Don't hit it in the bunker" because that sentence contains the words "hit it in the bunker" but to instead think "Get it on the green" or "pitch it on that fringe." That in itself won't make you an expert, but it changes the mindset to encourage success.
The short instructionals are great - loved the ‘I don’t know why I was excited, I do that all the time’. Golf . . . lovely when it brings the child out in us 😉
Man! Watched your recent vid about chipping off of tight lies on Tuesday. Played comp Wednesday morning - first hole, rated #3, pushed 2nd shot 25 meters right of a short sided pin. Used your mid-stance, bounce technique for a 2 bounce hole out. YOU DA MAN!
Massive thanks for this video Pete! Got out yesterday and was practising on the chipping green at my local course, no hazard or anything in front of me mind you. Put these tips into action on about a 20-25 foot chip and found I was dialling it in to within a few feet, even holed a few!
I watched this video early yesterday morning. Jumped in my car and spent 3 hours on a chipping range. It took a minute to get use to the grip you talked about, but I have sincerely gained at least 60 % more confidence. Cheers mate. I genuinely had zero prior to yesterday. I’ll keep on it and use different wedges and such. Thanks for the content. 🥃🏌🏻🥃
Around the green is the one place that I make up shots on those I play with; although usually not enough to make up for all the shots it takes me to get within 60 yards of the green. The best tip I was given for flop shots like this was to take the club away on the outside and hit the shot out to in (something I unfortunately do with most clubs). This really helped me to get closer to tight pins, also helped me out of green side bunkers.
I like the way you make several practice swings back and forth before hitting the shot. It relieves tension and enhances feel, which is something I struggle with. I'm going to try that.
Great teaching video, I am definitely not new to golf but my chipping is not consistent. Your lesson shows me where my set up and swing are wrong. I look forward to getting much closer with my short chips! THANKS!
This and putting are the only 2 shots I can physically play. Multiple joint replacements due to juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (36yrs of it) and limited movement means I can't actually perform a full swing. The wife got a hole with liftable handle for the garden so I can have some fun when well enough. Yep, I get severe pain payback, but it's fun and passes the time. Might invest in a 56 wedge (only have a cheap pw atm) to add to the fun with some obstacles. Great vid as always pal, they cheer me up when stuck in bed.
Hi Peter, I would like to thank you for your tip! I have been struggling with chips over bunkers and even close to the hole (10 - 20 yards out) I watched your video twice and love the straight arm and letting your body do the swing. Today was my first round since looking at your video. Well on the third hole about 15 yards off the left side of green with having to go over the cart path and the green being elevated I chipped with my 60 degree like you showed and the ball went up and on the second bounce it hit the pin and stayed a few inches from the hole! On the 13 th hole I was about 25 yards out and again took the 60 degree and it landed 6 inches from the hole!!! My brother was in shock lol thanks again Pete and keep helping us with our game!!!
Lol - I got an 8 the other day from 3rd shot across the bunker. Like a fool I thought I'd be the expert when I'm inexperienced. Never again - until tomorrow, as I can't resist the temptation! Great video
Actually a shot I am quite comfortable playing. Rate myself a Upper Proficient especially around the greens. New clubs are helping the game now, great content as always.
Thanks Pete. This video really helped my chipping! I've been working on getting better, and this gave another option, that I practiced, and it's been really good. Thanks for your content.
Fantastic video, Peter! I'm gonna file it under "Wedges" as well as "Golf Strategy" because it's very useful in terms of thinking about our shots strategically. Thanks!
Great vid and can’t wait to get out and put it into practice! Also great choice to film on the 15th and that bunker in particular as when I play at Towneley that’s probably the hole that I have to play that shot from the most often!
Great video Pete. Loved the breakdown of the skill level versus shot selection. Will practice this today. Love to see a video with the same skill level breakdown from out of the rough, in trees etc
Your videos are awesome. I really enjoyed this particular one. Growing up golfing with my dad and grandfather I ended up unknowingly self-teaching myself to pound the bounce by bringing the shaft back to vertical on impact. That was a little too high on the face and a little less spin for consistent distance control in some situations. I would love to see flop shot vs lower launch higher spin shots within 100 and that bunker shot from this video if someone missed it short and into the bunker with the different lies you may get in that sandy oasis.
Great video Pete! I really appreciated the different techniques, based on experience level. Would love to see a video showing different options, based on pin placement on the green. Putt, chip and run, conventional pitch, vs high lob. Showing when you might use each option, techniques etc.
Great vid Pete - would love to see this type of vid for 1) bunker - both fairway and around the green and 2) severe ball below you feet shot - my nemesis!!!
Pete mate! Love the high energy, informative, snappy nature of this video! This is a trick i too hate and look forward to trying to remedy on tomorrows round, unless this storm ruins my day...
Thanks will definitely help me in the future I thinned three into the bunker last week its a shot that gives me nightmares and I'm not that bad overall have broke 80 in the past tho now struggle to break 90 driving and putting consistent just middle part of game causes my bother
I hope to be Expert level one day so I can put mine on the clock. Don't know why but it must be what you do as an expert. Thanks Pete. Fairway bunker shots next please.
Nice video! I always find myself wanting to go for the risky shot because it is more fun, but based on my level of play I probably should be looking at aiming for the safe play...
This is just what I needed 2 days ago 🤣 had a few issues chipping onto the green from close range - either too short or WAY too long. Perfect video hopefully it will help next time
A very well technique and recommendation of hitting such a shot(s) for all levels of players. My addition is: clubhead location. To get the ball higher, utilize the "high-toe" portion of a wedges clubface. The more a ball spends time on high-lofted clubface the higher it will go and the softer it will land. So take note of your ball potion upon setup.
When I was a kid, long before anybody told me it was wrong, I used to practice hitting wedges a little bit fat for situations like this. It worked really well, playing many more kinds of shots with something a little like bunker technique. This with an ordinary late-60s pitching wedge. These days I'm embarrassed to do it.
A good way to feel this shot ... take your stance as you were doing without a club and with a ball in your trail hand. Practice tossing the ball underhanded, with your trail hand, and get the feel of how that train hand moves. Then, grab your wedge, drop a ball, and hit a shot trying to remember and keep the feel of the underhand toss. Works a treat ... and can work in soft sand too.
great video - thanks pete. i've become quite proficient during lockdown in clearing an 8 foot conifer and fence in the garden with a 64 degree wedge - and landing it softly on a narrow strip of wasteground, stopping it before it rolls down the embankment onto the railway line. but, am yet to find this of any direct practical use on the course...;-) however, now, in my mind i see that conifer as the obstacle i need to clear on the course - not a scary bunker - and experience tells me i can clear that conifer. p.s you missed out the 'woeful' golfer category - which i'm in...
Pete, absolutely loved this vid. Bizarrely this is something I’m decent at but I’ve suddenly forgotten how to get it out of that green side bunker - any tips / videos on that please 🙏
Good video Pete. The scenario I'm not 100% not confident on is a flop shit over a bunker because of no green to work with. Video on that please for consistency 🙏
Great vid. I would be somewhere between the proficient and expert level for these shots but am still a little intimidated at times on either extremely tight lies, particularly if it's a bit wet with grabby turf interaction. Here I find myself being concerned about the bounce on my SM7 60 deg - perhaps a touch too much. To make sure I get through, I do 2 things - first I limit the backswing to shorter than usual and really crunch through using tummy muscles to turn my body through with very quiet hands. Second, I always pre-visualise the clubhead in its finish position as I accelerate through. The shorter backswing reduces impact error, the higher than usual acceleration gives a better bite - especially using a very open clubface for a green sloping away from me, and the pre-visualisation really helps with getting through properly. Finally, I practice this shot *a lot* (at least 50 times per week) from very tight lies, into the grass grain (particularly difficult) and from downhill lies into a very tight landing zone (hellishly difficult). Over time you will gain the skills and confidence and it can really save you shots during the round. Many thanks and cheers from Sydney, Aust - Dave
Would love an in depth video on how to properly change your swing to hit fairway woods off the fairway/rough. Struggle to get height on those shots, really low ball flights. Thanks!
Easily my biggest mental hurdle every round is defining what a successful shot looks like for me. Too often I compare myself to the greats like Peter Finch or Andy Carter and to hit shots they would deem a "success" for their skill set.
Hi Peter Great video and instruction. Just started back playing after a 15 year gap and this shot ( even without the bunker) is already losing me shots. I used to play these ok but somehow now it’s putting the fear of God into me and resulting in varied poor results. If I go onto the practice ground it takes 20 attempts before I find the rhythm. I collect the balls and from the exact same spot it takes me 10 attempts before I get the rhythm. And then guess what happens when I’m on the course ?? I make all the standard mistakes - grip to tight/accelerate to much on downswing/lift my head etc etc I know the game has changed a lot from when I used to play and I do remember with these shots I used to really swing out to in ( probably with sand iron) but many of the videos I’m currently watching ( and yours has been the best) don’t seem to mention out to in much. In other words I think I used to treat this shot very similar to a bunker shot - would that be correct in the “ modern” approach?
Instead of going for the flag on them kinds of shots I just make sure I make it on the green for a 2 putt. Yeah it might cost me an extra shot but it’s better than hitting it into the bunker and taking more shots trying to get out. Don’t be scared about taking an extra shot even though you could make it in 1 less but the risk vs the reward is 9 times out of 10 for average golfers is they’re hitting it straight into the bunker or thinning it off the other side of the green.
THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR TIME WITH ME ❤️ hopefully this vid can help you out on the links! Subscribe, Like and comment peeps
stinger tutorial ?
brilliant and funny as
Just wondered why you remove the glove to putt? Does this give any benefit to putting?
One of the great mental tips for these kinds of shots I heard from Nick Faldo, who advised not to think about what you DON'T want to happen, but think about what you do. Thanks very much for taking the time to make this video Peter, very helpful. Will be sure to practise a few of those techniques 👍
The short instructionals are great - loved the ‘I don’t know why I was excited, I do that all the time’. Golf . . . lovely when it brings the child out in us 😉
Every time you talk/preview your shots you almost always hit gems lol Just do that all the time Peter. Good stuff bubba. Cheers
Love the 'four levels' approach to the skill. many thanks

Nice video, like how you gave options for the different skill levels. Great idea. Scariest shot in golf is the one right after a shank!
I like the way you make several practice swings back and forth before hitting the shot. It relieves tension and enhances feel, which is something I struggle with. I'm going to try that.
Or I’m just watching the video because I’m a loyal subscriber. You dropped this king Peter 👑
Great teaching video, I am definitely not new to golf but my chipping is not consistent. Your lesson shows me where my set up and swing are wrong. I look forward to getting much closer with my short chips! THANKS!
I have trouble with this shot every time......in fact i had it yesterday.....thanks for this very interesting film.
Great video. Good to see you showing going for the pin is not always the best option. 👍
This and putting are the only 2 shots I can physically play. Inexperienced golfer here ... very interesting video instruction. I’ll try on the practice bunker soon.
Another great set of tips 👍🏼👏🏼 still can’t work out why some people give a thumbs down 🤷🏻 keep up the great work 😊🌈
Actually a shot I am quite comfortable playing. Rate myself a Upper Proficient especially around the greens. New clubs are helping the game now, great content as always.
Love the different camera angles and work in this video! Bravo.
Thanks Pete. This video really helped my chipping! I've been working on getting better, and this gave another option, that I practiced, and it's been really good. Thanks for your content.

Love the content. This and much more with chipping/ pitching. Currently fighting the yips from under 50 yards. Everything is bladed through or short
This is so helpful! I am new to your channel, but chipping out of green side bunker videos would be so helpful.
This will be greatly helpful. Thanks Pete. Great vid as always. I've been working on my chipping and flop shots lately so this will add in nicely
Great video Pete, more of this 😉🏌️♂️⛳️🍻
Some good tips there to remind us what we should be doing.
Great video. I’m a new golfer but oddly these are the types of shots I’m confident over.

I play a 56/08 S-grind as my sand and lob wedge. Super versatile club 👍
Pete, loving the drone view, a nice touch.
Great video PETE thanks for the tips 😊👍🏌️♂️

Great lesson Peter, chipping is always my Achilles heel.
Great vid Pete - would love to see this type of vid for 1) bunker - both fairway and around the green and 2) severe ball below you feet shot - my nemesis!!!
Great video, really well made. I would like another on chipping from a tight lie.
Pete mate! Love the high energy, informative, snappy nature of this video! This is a trick i too hate and look forward to trying to remedy on tomorrows round, unless this storm ruins my day...
Great advice. I would put myself in the second category.
nice job brother!! Very helpful.. Short game is a lot of golfers Achilles heal..
On this shot, from this day forth I swear to become an expert ! Keep the content 👌🏻
Great video Peter and thank you for the staged proficiency thoughts
Great Tip and lesson Peter, this is by far my weakest shot and I've been playing 30+ yrs...
Bunker shots !! Have wiffle balls all over garden to practice chipping ! Have to borrow the neighbours kids sand pit to practice bunker shots !
Love it, thanks Pete you’re on a different level to Rick shiels. Much better golfer & teacher. 👌
Thanks will definitely help me in the future I thinned three into the bunker last week its a shot that gives me nightmares and I'm not that bad overall have broke 80 in the past tho now struggle to break 90 driving and putting consistent just middle part of game causes my bother
Great video. Super tips Peter 👌🏼
I really like this approach to what shot to play... would like to see this style for course management and setting expectations...
Love this shot. When I started playing golf one of the first things I focused on was learning flop shots just because I thought they were cool haha
Nothing scares me more than a shot over water. But I’d love to see a video on how to keep drivers straight. Thanks Peter
There is NO WATER there. You're just hitting a ___ yard shot on the fairway. I hope this helps.
More great tips peter keep up the good work.
I hope to be Expert level one day so I can put mine on the clock. Don't know why but it must be what you do as an expert. Thanks Pete. Fairway bunker shots next please.

Great tip Pete I just wish I had more places to practice.
Great video Pete! Keep them coming!
Hi pete, appreciate if you can make a video explaining on wedge bounce and selecting the best bounce for different types of golfers

I would love to see a video like this about chipping or pitching onto a extremely elevated green from below
Super helpful!! Thanks !!
Nice video Mr. Finch!
Nice one Pete, thanks
Wish I'd seen this before last night on that par 3 😂 great video 👍🏻
Love you Pete

If your ever in Arizona again try to check out the Links at Queen Creek such a great Crouse!
Pete, absolutely loved this vid. Bizarrely this is something I’m decent at but I’ve suddenly forgotten how to get it out of that green side bunker - any tips / videos on that please 🙏
Love to see a video on chipping from poor lies like heavy rough etc
Hey Pete, nice video. I would like to see more 'course management' videos. Scores gains using smart play.
Hi Peter great video :-) my worst shot is fairway bunkers I mostly strikes them fat and loses distance.
Good video Pete. The scenario I'm not 100% not confident on is a flop shit over a bunker because of no green to work with. Video on that please for consistency 🙏
Great video more like this plz

I’m spraying in my bathroom at work as I watch this!!!!!!
Is spraying code for taking a dump?
Loved the vid Pete! Shame I just got back from a round just now and I fat one right into a bunker! Wish I’d seen this 3 hours earlier 😂😂
Hi Peter

Love the vids
Hello Pete I don't have a problem with these shots but I like video anyway
