I generally pick the ball up and throw it into the green lol 😂 I’m new to golf and this is a shot I am gonna need to work on. Luckily I am not currently keeping score because I enjoy the game more and don’t get easily frustrated with each stroke. Getting a lot of good tips from your videos is helping a lot as well. Keep them coming.
Rick, you won’t believe what happened today. I am a beginner golfer and have only been playing about 6 months. My game is coming along thanks to your videos. One area I have really been struggling with is sand. It has literally been killing my game. I fear the sand because I am losing 3-4 strokes in every bunker I watched this video a few times last night. I went out this morning to play the back nine and I hit two shots during the round that landed in the sand. I was careful to follow the instructions you provided. I adjusted my grip to open the club face, I adjusted my stance slightly left, I set my feet wide and wiggled my feet in, I got low in my stance and I swung down and with a full follow through. Both shots cleared the sand, cleared the gap and landed within 10’ of the hole. Unbelievable! I was playing with much better golfers and they were struggling in the sand. They asked me where I learned to hit out of the sand. I gave you full credit. Thank you!!
Yet another dumb instruction telling you to hit fat in the sand first instead of hitting the ball first when it's NOT buried (fried egg) and sitting up nicely. No wonder weekend hackers can't hit out of the bunkers. It's because they follow ludicrous asinine instructions like this video to use the hardest way possible to hit the ball out of the sand. HIT THE DAMN BALL FIRST like a regular uphill pitch or chip shot from the fairway!
Keyser Soze no chance at all. That only works in really bare or wet bunkers where there isn’t enough sad or it’s not soft enough. Using your technique you will 90% of the time thin it as rarely will be perfectly sat on top of the sand. And then you will also lose a lot of loft, meaning if you even manage to get it up out of the bunker it will run on way too far. Now I wonder why all the pros don’t use your technique🤔🤔
@Richard Thomas. "No chance" my ass! More often than not, a ball will ROLL into the bunker or take a low bounce into it so it won't be buried up to its equator like it would when dropped directly from high altitude. I'd say 60% or more of my bunker shots are NOT from a buried lie. A ball that slightly sits down less than 1/4 inch in the sand does not count as buried because you can easily make clean contact well below its equator. And what about fairway bunkers? How the hell are you gonna advance the ball 150-200 yards if you have to hit 2 inches fat into the sand first instead of hitting the ball first? My method WORKS, end of story!
Great video, Rick! I searched for this after having an absolute nightmare on Tuesday when I got stuck in a bunker, and eventually gave up trying to get out! Two days later, I found 3 bunkers during my round, but managed to get out of each one first time. Thank you!
I'm a complete novice ,and I must say your RUclips tuition has inspired me no end . Fantastic easy to follow instruction that really works ! I was about to give up altogether ,but now I'm gaining confidence all the time . I've watched other videos but I find your approach the best !

Came across your videos by coincidence while searching golf tips on RUclips. I find that they are very educational and very clear. They have helped me greatly in correcting several little problems. I will certainly continue to search for your videos to help me improve my game.
I've been watching many of your videos over the past 6 months, and your tips have really helped improve my game. I appreciate you keeping the tips simple and on point. Thanks for all your great advice!
You are my favourite person on RUclips, I’m fairly new to golf.. I’m now hitting in the 90’s after 20 rounds of golf. It’s not impressive but bit by bit it’s coming down and down. Thank you
Struggled with a few deep green-side bunkers lately, and you're absolutely right, they can completely ruin a round! Really appreciate these tips Rick, can't wait to put them to use the next time I find myself in one! 👍
Excellent video. I’m working on bunker play at the moment and I’m positive this video will really help. Also, for what it’s worth I like the transparency of having your endorsements clear at the end of the video.
I love love love Rick’s easy to follow instructions! Earlier this season I started playing (probably my 50th round total, I’m almost 60) after joining a wonderful club. People say the course is brutally difficult. Round #1 was a 115. Yesterday I played round #15 of the year and would have shot an 80 was it not for the snowman on #17. But I will take an 84 and hopefully keep improving.
Great info in the video. For greenside bunker shots, i use my 58 degree wedge. I carry Mizuno wedges in 50, 54, and 58 degree lofts. My PW is a part of my Hogan Edge set and is 46 degrees.
I watched this video 3 weeks ago. Not a bad player, single-digit handicap but still, struggle with Bunker play, especially greenside. The Wider stance and focusing at the spot behind the ball where you want the club to enter the sand really helps especially with confidence and keeping the club moving. I've had some success in the bunker after watching this video thanks Rick.
Rick your approach shot execution of armpits close to body and just turn body and arms remain passive & turning torso back & through is great. What is the execution technique please for bunker shots?
Perfect timing on the release of this vid Rick. With GCAmTour Nationals around the corner been looking for something to work on to play my best when the tournament starts.
Hey Rick, I watched this video last week, Ive had alot of trouble getting out of bunkers. Ended up in the bunkers on three occasions today, got out firt try each time! cheers
I have been having difficulty getting out of bunkers recently, so I watched this video several times. Well, using Rick’s three tips, today I went into four bunkers, and I got out of every one of them on the first try! The only problem was that I got out of one bunker but into another! Oh well, another fun day at the golf course!
Very good tips again Rick. One of the key factors that I think that helps to get out of bunkers is having Confidence in your swing and club choice, which comes with practice
I love this style of video, quick and to the point. I’ll be working on this tomorrow at the local practice facility. I often take 2-3 strokes in a bunker, and have zero confidence out of the sand around the green.
After receiving so many conflicting ways on how to get out of a bunker from my golf buddies, relieved to say that after watching this that I'll now feel a lot more confident. Not saying that I will be looking forward to going into a bunker, but hopefully I can not only get out in one, but stop the ball close to the pin. Another great video to put into practise out on the course.
Great tips, especially regarding hitting closer with harder sand. This is something I have struggled with for a while when trying to hit 2-3 inches behind the ball and coming through without enough speed.
Great tutorial it will help me for sure! I would love to see a video of how to hit your full shot wedges. This is what i often struggle with when I am somewhere around 100 yards to the pin and I feel scared of me missing the green from the fareway where it should be an easy shot.
I put this into effect this week on the course and I played a course that bunkered for players like me. I hit into 6 green side bunkers and played 7 bunker shots in the round. That would have been 15 usually before I saw this video. I also started using my 60 degree instead of my set SW and it was incredible thanks Rick
another great video, Rick. i normally use my 56° Vokey for "normal" bunker shots. if it's a steep face, or if i'm short-sided, i may go with my 60° Vokey...
Watched your video 2 hrs ago ... Went and played 9 holes.. hit bunker first two holes. 2/2 out of the bunker first shot 😁 and good distances from the pin... Saved 7 shots from yesterdays 18 holes with 10 shots out of 3 different holes only 3 just on the green. Cheers Bru
Great video Mr Shields! Very easy to understand and cluttered at all. One add’l add on that made as much or more difference to taking the terror out of my sand shots is to keep my weight left at address, back swing and thru the shot. Thanks for the great tip and explanation!

hello
Any tips on stopping me shifting my weight to the right in the takeway rick keeps making me shank my longer irons😭
I generally pick the ball up and throw it into the green lol 😂 I’m new to golf and this is a shot I am gonna need to work on. I am having my 1st bunker lesson on Monday. No wait. It will be my 2nd lesson because YOU just presented my 1st one!
I love it your video seyho

Just want to say your edit game is on point. Videos have been looking so good this year.
As a new golfer, this was a great help, cheers!
I'm gonna be using these tips today at Kaiser golf course, Austin Texas.
thanks
Excellent video very basic simple instructions easy to understand I can't wait to use his tips.
Thanks for the tips.. I never learnt how to play a bunker shot.. It opened my eyes.. I was definitely playing it wrongly
Now it makes sense! Thank you! I hesitate with my follow throw in the bunker all of the time.
Will put this into practice tomorrow. I much prefer these brief factual videos.

@@Key5ser5oze you are dumb as fuck.
Sand is my nemesis. I live on the Oregon coast, dunes everywhere. Thank you for the help.
Great video, Rick! I searched for this after having an absolute nightmare on Tuesday when I got stuck in a bunker, and eventually gave up trying to get out! Two days later, I found 3 bunkers during my round, but managed to get out of each one first time. Thank you!

I know this is an older video but I pulled it up as I was struggling in a practice bunker and immediately had results. Rick, you're the man!
I struggle with my bunker play and needed your help and you delivered. Thanks Rick.
Love these short precise instructional videos. Sometimes I don’t have time to watch 15 minute videos. Well done
I would like tips on how to get out of bunkers on a city course that are mostly mud and rocks. And haven’t been raked in months.
Artificial hazard - take a free drop ;)
Just pick up your ball and drop it behind the bunker facing the pin. Bunkers in those condition require a free drop.
Use the putter
Agreed with RaFF, how steep is the lip? If it isn't too bad, the ole putter ramp.
just join a country club!
good job Rick, always a pleasure listening to you and the advice 💪

Great Video Rick. My golf game is a night and day difference after your tutoials. Thanks for all you do!

Another great tips video. It's quick, straight to point and very useful. Thank you
Watched this last night and used the lesson three times today. It was magic! Even from deep insidd a steep greenside bunker! Used my 64 degree wedge.
Rick
your approach shot execution of armpits close to body and just turn body and arms remain passive & turning torso back & through is great. What is the execution technique please for bunker shots?
Thanks Rick. Great tips mate, I really enjoy your videos, very helpful.

Surely brilliant and we'll explained for sand bunker shot, the best short golf shot instructor on youtube, thanks so much>.
Im terrible out of the bunker and this makes it much more simple and focuses my thoughts on what to do if, and when, I get into a greenside bunker.
Nice and succinct. I will be saving this one and watching again and again. I’ve had my ball too far back! Let’s have one on fairway bunkers.
Thanks Rick......this is really good advice....i shall try these tips next time i play.
I use a 64* wedge. To look behind the ball where I want to hit, is a great tip/reminder! Thanks from Australia
Great golfing tip Rick, learning a bit each day.
Awesome tip! I’ve always connected at the ball as opposed to behind it. I will definitely give this a try!
I have been having difficulty getting out of bunkers recently, so I watched this video several times. Hey Rick thanks for the tips. I love playing greenside bunkers but don't like fairway bunkers. Looking forward to learning the best way to do it.
Great video! I use to struggle out of bunkers before I changed to lob wedge. Now get out first shot most of the time
Titleist Vokey SM6, 54 and 59 degrees. Thanks for the tips Rick
Great tips! I love the hinge and hold method from Phil, it really helps me!
Great tips, especially regarding hitting closer with harder sand. This is something I have struggled with for a while when trying to hit 2-3 inches behind the ball and coming through without enough speed.
Thanks Rick Shiels... learning to open the face has changed my "bunker life". I actually enjoy bunker shots now 👍
Clear and crisp, very helpful
I learned the proper stance by watching your video. Thanks RS
Great information Rick. Thanks.
Great tutorial it will help me for sure! I would love to see a video of how to hit your full shot wedges. This is what i often struggle with when I am somewhere around 100 yards to the pin and I feel scared of me missing the green from the fareway where it should be an easy shot.
Excellent. Very helpful. I have no problems with bunkers anymore
Thank you, can't wait to try
I watch a few golf videos on RUclips and yours are the best I think Rick
Great tips. Added more loft and attacked 3in back of ball all out and good position Cheers
Great video Rick. Bunker shots are very much fingers crossed for me but after watching your tips let me at them 👍
The graphics and close up editing were helpful. Really good video
Great video Rick! straight to the point. Thank you.
Just what I needed. Felt like I spent my whole last round in the bunker. Hopefully now I'll be able to get out and save a few strokes.
Best tips on this platform. Keep it up champ
Makes me a lot more confident now when I’m in the bunkers. Awesome info. Thanks Rick!
Brilliant tips spent an hour in the bunker last night practicing, so confident now cheers fella! 👌
Bunkers are back in play as the season kicks off. Needed a reminder of these basics. Thanks, Rick!
5 shots to get out of a bunker today! I don’t think any of us practice bunker shots enough. Thanks for the tips Rick. Love your informative videos.
Great video! Love how quick it was! Too the point! Thank you sir!

Fantastic work as always thank you
Great video especially how to hit out of soft to firm sand. Most teach to hit behind ball same distance regardless of sand.
