I have been awful from the sand for my entire life. I've watched this video a handful of times recently, and it seems so simple. This past weekend, was playing in a scramble and we found ourselves in a greenside bunker. I went through these steps in my head, and hit the absolute best bunker shot I've ever hit. Thank you so much Paul!!!
This tip is the reason I follow this individual on all aspects of the golf swing. It will take patience, work and commitment. I have played golf for over 49 years. I am a believer that after 3 years of golf you will never get better unless you make changes. Paul Wilson took me from a terrible sand player. Absolutely no confidence in the sand. I would hope the lie was good enough to putt it out. I now feel like a 4 handicap player out of the sand. This tip works. It is one of his strongest instruction videos.
Thanks so much. So glad you tried it and improved. Bunker shots are a vital part of playing good golf. If you can get it out it takes pressure off your long game because you don't care if you hit it into the bunker or not. They are very easy shots to hit. Just have to know how to do it which I explain in this tip. Keep up the good work. Let's get you to a 4 hdcp with your whole game.
Almost 69 years old and playing golf since age 13 and after watching your video, I played today and lo and behold, it works great in soft sand. Thank you.
I don't often go in bunkers but, last Wednesday I went in 3 and.......out in one, each time. Because of your observation with the feet already giving me my depth (that's the key 🔑 literally) I hit a normal shot but, with an open face and bingo! Normally I'm digging holes and out in 4-5 shots, trying to replicate a Tiger Woods sand shot. Thank you from Australia 👍👍👍👍👍😁
There are 21 Balls in the golf ball tube, today I only hit 42 but had a 100% result, out of the bunker and all on the green, I wish I could teleport myself to Vegas to show you how I have absolutely mega progressed in just 2wks, I've literally gone from massive frustration to total state of euphoric .... just dig those feet in and hit the golf ball and amaze yourselves!! And the best thing was today, I had a mini crowd of lets say 3 or 4 other golfers who came over to the bunker to watch ...what a feeling that was.
last week I spent roughly 6hrs in the Bunker Practicing, hit about 260 balls, had a 75% success rate, still thinned a few and shanked a few, started again today, another 1,5hrs in the bunker, hit 63 balls and I'm saying an improvement up to at least 90% shanked only 1 ball and thinned about 4 balls straight over the green, I only practice when no one else is around. Pauls method works and I'm not going to implement any other styles for bunker shots. So, so happy at the results, back in the bunker again tomorrow 🙂
Very glad. Glad you found this tip and are seeing results. Great feeling when you can get them out and on the green. Takes pressure off the long game too. Sound like you need my shank tip too: ruclips.net/video/m9kj0548rYw/видео.html I have literally fixed hundreds of shankers.
Took your sand tips to the golf course today wouldn't you know it on the very first hole I was in a pretty deep sand bunker what about 20 ft to the pain. Good grief, wouldn't you know it the first swing Pop the ball up and it landed on the green and rolled into the hole. I almost fainted. I had one other sand shot during the round to within a 3-foot putt. I am putting your other tips to good use and appreciate your simplicity to your approach do this game. Thanks again
Wow! Nice shot. The game gets way easier when you know you can get it out of bunkers. Keep at it. Goad 1 is to get every ball onto the green from different lies in the bunker. Once you can do that then go for the pin.
I used to have one of those different swings in sand until I watched this video over a year ago. Paul says to use the same swing, and the main characteristic of that swing is written on his visor - Stay Loose. Sand is completely unforgiving with tension. A good body turn with relaxed arms lets the bounce of the wedge do exactly what it was designed to do. Watch the tour pros when they hit out of bunkers. They move like a cooked pasta noodle. Thanks, Paul. You're the best.
For sure. You should be loose. Being tight and trying to hammer it is not a good idea on any shot. The less you use your arms, them more you will use your body which is what I want.
Thank-you Paul. I have used your method for the past 3 times I have been out golfing. Works every time. Now I just have to work on getting closer to the pin. Again thanks!!!!
watched yesterday, couldn't wait to get to the range today to test it out, from 40 balls I thinned 3, and that's because I didn't have the club face open, i've been sooo frustrated with bunker practice from last year and this year as I was thinning and shanking every single ball out of Bunker, and I now I know the reason why, I was twisting the clubface to an open positon, I WAS not letting go of the club to create an open face, today I did exactly what paul said AND low and behold 37 out of 40 balls came out of that bunker like they should, I made the mark in the sand, full body turn and hit the ball (or the sand) with the same swing, perfect, i'm a happy man again :-) simple really.
Very good. Bunker shots are so easy yet everyone is trying to make it too complicated. If I taught you a different swing for bunker shots you would have to learn 2 swings. You don't have time to learn 1 swing never mind 2. Now you see you can do it with ease keep at it. Get every ball consistently on the green first. Once you can do that ... start going for the pin. Great job!
Paul, I have struggled with bunker shots for over 50 years. This is the one that finally clicked. It is so simply. I try to get others to do it, but they are stuck with traditional lessons. Thank you so much!!!
I’m in Ohio, so we haven’t been able to play or practice yet, but last week I went to Orlando and never struggled more in my life getting out of the sand. I watched this video when ngot home and went to my local practice bunker to give it a try. It works! Great video. Thanks. 5 stars!!!
I can't believe it. I watched this video 2 nights ago, and tried it out on the course today using a 58 degree sand wedge. I was 20ft from the hole coming out of a deep bunker. It was the shot of the day for me. It stopped 6 inches from the pin. I'm sold. Thanks for the only bunker method I'll use from now on !!
I'm a 12 handicap but have had tons of trouble getting out of bunkers for the past 40 years. Totally inconsistent and lacking confidence. I watched your video (a couple of times) yesterday and went out to play today. I was in four bunkers during the round . . . I hit four very nice shots out of them! One of them on a par 5 even set up a birdie sandie!!!! Your method is simple and, because of that, inspires confidence in the swing. I cannot thank you enough!
Wow! That's great. Bunkers are so simple if you follow this. As I said in the tip I didn't always teach this. Once I switched I could get anyone out in minutes. I literally had a guy come here from New York just for a bunker lesson. He had taken 10 in a past and couldn't get it out. Literally 10 minutes was all it took. Perfect shot after perfect shot. He said I was the only one who didn't say to hit a spot 3" behind the ball. This shows you that hitting is the problem. Stop that and do it as I show in the tip and you can get them out every time. Keep up the good work.
Great video, i play with so many seniors that fear bunkers, most are trying some advanced tour pro techniques and failing! pros are trying to get it close with subtley and skill and different distances even taking off power. Most golfers just need a gettit outer!, a standard repeatable distance for them and 1 putt or 2 putt depending where the pin is.PWs technique is the best simple. Remember sand will stop a speeding bullet (arms only) but not a bulldozer (body)
I know exactly what you mean. My technique is super simple and works withing minutes. Once you can get every ball out then go for the pin. Getting the ball out of the bunkers takes pressure off of your long game so it is vital that you learn how to do it. It doesn't get easier than this.
What a great tip, Paul! On a golf swing that's not in a bunker, many teachers emphasize using the hips to power the swing. Focusing on this over the past several years has dramatically improved my game. But I still struggle in bunkers. I carefully looked at scores of videos on hitting out of bunkers and not even one other teacher talked about using the hips for power. Not knowing any better, I used my hands and arms solely to provide that power--and it doesn't work. Now that you have emphasized using your normal swing (i.e., the hips provide the power) I promise I will never again use my hands to make the swing. I'll let you know how things work out.
It sure is. I had a guy come from New York just for a bunker lesson. He had taken 10 in the past and still couldn't get it out. Literally 10 mins. with me and he was hitting perfect bunker shots. He said I was the only one who said to not hit behind the ball. Stick with it. Just get them out and onto the green. Once you can do that for a whole bucket then start going for the pin.
I started playing golf in 1997. " Lost my shoe in the sand," as they say.. Had 1 hole in one from the bunker after hitting 100 's of buckets of balls. It is still my best memories, today. Took a few Pro guys lessons, each had different techniques and prices, yet today I am still looking for the "sand recipes". I will definitely try your tip next time I play, actually, I can't wait to try it out. Thanks for sharing.
You don't need any other bunker lessons. This is it. No joke in 10 mins or less you will be hitting perfect bunkers shots. I have done this for thousands of students. You'll see.
I watched this video last night. Today I played and was in three bunkers - one greenside and two fairway. I hit three solid bunker shots. Thank you for the simplified and very effective approach to bunker shots!
I do not. This is part of my membership site with over 1300 tips posted. I don't give everything away. It's basically your real swing. Don't dig in too deep. Grip down 1/2 inch. Head still. Take one more club. Over 8 iron play for a fade.
@@paulwilsongolf Excellent Paul. Thanks! That was the one major question I had involving your feet and whether or not to choke down on the club. Much appreciated!
Just to finish the thought. What I found really helpful was two things. One don't focus on hitting 3" behind the ball, focus on the swing after digging into the sand to lower your club path automatically, and focus in your backswing on getting the butt of the club to point at the sand which really forces you to make a full swing at the ball. These two elements really changed my sand game. I switched to this method about a month ago (after watching an earlier Paul video) and as I said I am 90%+ out of the sand now. When I have failed it is typically because the sand is wet so have to think about how to handle that case (or maybe Paul can post a video about it?). Thanks for all your help. I find your presentation method to be clear and easy to understand and apply whereas most youtube golf videos not so clear. Thanks again.
Very good. Glad you saw it. This keeps it super simple literally within minutes you will get them out. Once you can do that then start to go for the pin.
Paul you made common sense to a shot I dread, I am a 6 hcp at 72 years old self taught, I think my lack of knowledge with bunker play is I rarely find myself in a bunker which means I struggle to play a consistence shot out, your explanation makes sense and will take that to the course many thanks
So easy to get people out of sand in minutes. You're a good player so you will easily get it. As you start get every ball onto the green. Once you can do that for 1 bucket of balls then go for the pin.
I have watched hours of youtube videos. All of the points you make are correct and using your normal swing makes the most sense. All of the other manipulations you mention really are unnecessarily complicating the issue, but continue to be taught thru countless other instructors. Thanks for this tip, it is a winner in my book.
Simple is the key. I figured out how to get people out of the bunker super fast because I don't accept they can't get it out. This is a real trouble spot for most golfers. If they can just get it out every time and onto the green this will save a ton of shots and take their games to a whole new level. Yes, others make it way too complicated. I watched one and counted 16 things they wanted you to do. Good luck. Stick to my 4 and you'll be out in minutes. Keep up the good work and keep getting them out. Once you can get every ball on the green then and only then start going for the pin.
Glad you found this one. You will literally be able to get it out in minutes. First goal is to get every ball out. Then go for the pin. Yes, let me know how you do.
@@paulwilsongolf HOLY GEEZ!!!! I cannot believe it. Went to club for 20 min and hit 15 balls out of the bunker with every one of them out on first try using your method! Then played 18, hit the bunker 6 times and was out every time in one shot Paul. I am beyond grateful! I will continue to get comfortable with this and then start trying for more accuracy and distance - but honestly - the other 3 players were so impressed. By the way, also watched your fairway shot video - I loosened up, hit it easy and relaxed, and miraculously nailed 95% of those shots. Not one TOPPED ball. Paul - I am staying up all night and watching all your videos. Thank you so much!!
So glad you tried it and saw the results. Bunker shots are so simple. This is a huge part of the game as it not only lowers your scores but it takes pressure off your long game knowing you don't care if you hit it into the bunker because you can get it out. So glad you tried it on fairway woods too. Topping is not fun. Between these two things you should be able to dramatically improve your game.
Hi Paul, I switched to this bunker play at the beginning of summer and it's pure gold. I never even wince anymore when I go into the bunker. Pure gold !!
Very good. This is just so unbelievably simple. No one should ever have an issue getting the ball out of bunkers. This is literally 5 mins. I watched a bunker tip from someone and he gave 16 things to do. No joke.
This really works. I struggled with sand shots for years. Since switching to open/open/dig in/swing I am 90%+ getting out of bunkers. Now can try approach shots over bunkers as not afraid of going in bunkers.
Thanks so much. I have a big following in AU for some reason. Maybe one day I will make it there. Stay focused, keep it simple and you will play great.
Tried your tip today Paul. I visited 2 bunkers today, and much to my surprise, I got out first time both times!!! Felt superb, the simplicity was brilliant!!! Taken away myriad swing thoughts and fear over many years, thanks ever so much
Nice work! It is so simple but effective. This is a big part of the game so now you can get it out it will give you confidence for the rest of your game.
I never have problems in the bunker-just take two whacks. Then pick it up and throw the ball. I can’t wait to practice this. My game has improved immensely since I started watching these videos. Thank you!!!
This really works. I tried it the other day during a round where I hit a few practice shots out of the bunkers. I even forgot to grip the end of the club on one and it still worked. "Regular swing" and don't worry about hitting behind the ball are really the keys here. Was taking a perfect amount of sand and not my typical 5 inch deep sand crater.
This has to be the best bunker tip I've seen and the easiest. I've struggled getting out bunkers.been told all the contradicting advice ie 3 inches behind the ball, weight distribution etc. I'm going to try this.
Thanks so much. These are vital shots. They help take pressure off of your long game too so getting it out and on is huge. Make it complicated and too many steps and you will never get it. Stay focused. Your first goal is get them all out and on the green. Once you can do that go for the pin.
The BEST tip to improve your bunker play! Used this during today’s round. In the bunker 4 times, sandy par twice and 2 other good looks at par (made bogey). Thanks Paul!
Thanks so much. It is so simple to get the ball out of bunkers. If you can get the ball out it take pressure off your long game. Keep up the good work.
Paul, this is just like all of your other lessons - easy to understand, easy to execute, and fun to watch the great results. Thanks, it is a great tip.
This is a game changer for me. I've always been taught to slam the sand before the ball. This totally works and the best part is that I use the same swing you taught me in "The Body Swing". Thanks for another great tip!!
Yep, immediately stop doing that and you will pop them out like it's nothing. I have proven this countless times. 5-10 mins and they are hitting perfect bunker shots. I remember a gentleman flew in from New York just for a bunker lesson. He had take 10 lessons with other teachers in the past and still could not get the ball out. 10 minutes he was hitting it perfectly. He said I was the only one to tell him not to try to hit 3 inches behind the ball. You've got this. It will make a huge difference to your game.
This really works, Paul! Thank you very much! I bucket of balls in my bunker practice... I didn't miss a single shot using your technique! Amazing! I will share my practice at the sand in my youtube channel too... Thank you again Paul!
I watched the video and went to the practice bunker the next day. I cannot believe how well this works. I got up and down 3 times on the course today using this technique. Awesome! Now to dial the distance in with a couple different clubs. Thanks Paul.
Glad you tried it and were successful. These shots are so simple yet people insist on making them complicated. Distance - open or close the face more or less or turn the body faster or slower.
I watched this video last week and while playing Sunday AM - i had a fairway bunker shot - i remembered this video - nailed the shot to about 10' from the hole and sank the Birdie putt. I was very happy! i am a 80's to low 90's player. the Follow through on bunker play - seems to have been the missing element for me.....thank you Mr Paul Wilson!
although my distance to the pin wasn't great, I was able to get out of the 2 bunkers I was in and have a chance at par saves with this tip. after basically not being able to get out of the sand before my confidence has skyrocketed in just 2 attempts. I will now use this tip forever and start getting closer to those pins and getting up and down. Thanks Paul.
Very good. As I explained in the tip you can get them out in minutes. Just them out. That is your first goal. Once you can get all balls in a whole bucket out then you go for the pin. This is going to be huge for your game.
Have always had trouble with bunker...no matter how many lessons. Have just watched you video and will be taking it to the game. So much easier. Brilliant,
@@paulwilsongolf Hi. Didn't land in any bunkers because I have used your lessons on hitting with straight extended arms two feet after ball contact and the power of hips and legs to create a nice steady rotation. Not using my arms to create power. Fantastic lessons. You have started to help lower my h/cap.
Paul i have watched all your full swing videos and am committed to it with great results...never struck the ball better and i understand it......everything you say about bunker play what has been taught...ive done...now when ive watched bunker play by pros the last 10 years its all changed....no open stance...square stance...wide open club face...and swing down the line...and pros get it withon 1 foot or theyve failed....all this has screwed up my bunker play ...to the point that im a mess in the bunkers and always make sure no one is opposite me..because i might take their head off and or chunk it so hitting it again.....this bunker lesson is the only thing ive tried of yours and failed....ive done what you say to the tee....and i pick the ball with sand or lob wedge and its 70 yards over the green...its not thinned or skulled.....i am an excellent fairway bunker player....i use body swing same swing in those....i play it square...dont dig in feet...choke up 1/2 inch and play ball back from middle 1 ball length...and i swing just like you say...and i pick it..and am successful....but in greenside bunker i do the same thing...and yes i am digging my feet in...and i am not choking up...ball is 1 ball forward from middle...and i swing like from fairway....club open stance open....swing along stance line...but i just pick the ball everytime...its like my mind sees that ball and whatever adjustments i have made it still says to hit the ball first......and so i do....i am looking at the ball like i do out of sand just like body swing method....so i hit the ball even when im dug in....old methods of trying to hit 2-3inches behind ball in sand...usually did same thing...skulled into the ball and just nailed....everything ive done with drills for full swing...irons/drivers has been a glowing success...and im religious on drills at home and ive got this relaxed no arms swing no urge to hit .....im loose...im turning....it works in fairway bunkers....fairways....drives.....but in greenside bunkers....im a failure...its almost to the point where im willing to take a 2 shot penalty to place it out of the sand....honestly i would be better off....im triggered to hit the ball...no matter what the adjustments.
Easy, if you are doing what I say to do and still hitting the ball you are either lifting up or buckling your arms. You would lift if you are trying to see it before you've done it. So delay the reaction to watch it. Next, you need to loosen the arms. Start with short bunker shots. 10-20 yards. If you were hitting it that hard there is no way you would put enough into it to hit it 70 yards. The club isn't even swinging fast enough to hit it that long. Maybe the first goal is just get it out. Don't even try for the green. Super loose and just turn the hips a little to get it to pop out. Once you can do that with no arms just turn a little faster. I think you are trying to hit perfect shots so you are looking and hitting. Try it a little different and you should get it in minutes. Then goo for more.
You are spot on....played today had 3 ssnd shots...all made green...+2 sandy's.....i was doing exactly what you said....trying to see it before i hit it!.....i focused on delaying the reaction to watch it! + really loosened my arms and turned with body stayed down and just loosy goosy arms following body..and staying down to watch it..."delaying the reaction to watch it"...i keep that in my head now when i enter the bunker...+...loose arms and basic body swing mantra skills.....my skulls were from lifting up...eager to see the result......you pegged it w/o even seeing my swing!.....well...i know why....because..youve seen it all!!!!...thank you!
Ty I watched this last night. I went out to our practice hole at our country club this morning. After I got the hang of it I put 26 out of 33 inside the flag stick from about 45 feet from a variety of placements. Definitely feeling more confident in the bunker now.
Very good. Such a great feeling when you can get them out. As you get more confident it won't even matter if you end up in one in the future. Keep up the good work.
I TRIED THIS ON Monday. So so good, I started popping into the bunkers on purpose! Woohoo much zip and spin, love it! Can't thank you enough. So obvious. Best wishes from the UK. Jim
Can't wait to try this tip and trick out!! Bunkers are not my friend......I do the weight shift, dig down and stab at the ball.... but this looks like my game changer!!! Thanks Paul!
Thank you so much Paul what a great lesson especially at 3:00. I would always twist my hand to open it but it makes more sense just to fix the grip keep up the great work brother appreciate you
Glad you liked it. Simple to hit perfect bunker shots. Do it my way and every time you are hitting any other club you are also working on bunker shots.
It sure is. I can get people out in minutes. I had a guy who came to me after taking 10 bunker lessons. He came just for a bunker lesson. I got him hitting perfect bunker shots in 10 mins. Previously no one got him out but no one told him to not purposely hit the sand.
Today is 60 C in Atlanta and I tried your sand trap shot that hit like a regular shot as your feet is deep in the sand so you can aim at the ball and hit like a regular shot and the club head will automatically be under the ball. Guess what ? I hit 95-98% out of the bunker with ease, particularly if I try to straight up my right hand and not chicken wing it. Amazing Paul, best sand trap technique so far for me. Thanks a lot
Glad you tried it and were successful. Yet another person who got the ball out in minutes. Hopefully others read this and try it. People do not have to keep struggling out of the bunker.
Played twenty ten course at Celtic Manor last week, and so wish I had seen this video before i played! 8 shots in one bunker killed my round literally!! Cant wait to try it out, looks so simple...
Wow. This 100% worked for me. Came out high and soft with spin with my 58 degree. Used the same technique in the grass for a flop shot. Just no digging my feet in of course. Thank you!!!
I’ve had bunker lessons from 3 different Pros, and 2 clinics - but was still struggling. Tried your approach, which was counter intuitive from my previous teachings - and it worked. When it stops working I go back to this video to find what I have forgotten to do. Many thanks, you are a wise man. BTW how did you know I don’t practice enough?
So easy to get it out of bunkers. They were probably teaching how I taught many years ago. Glad you tried it and are getting out. This will take pressure off of your long game.
Another great tip from Paul. After poor shots last week had to try it. Worked like a charm where there’s sand during practice. I play in Florida and bunkers are inconsistent and a lot are compacted. How do I keep this same easy approach without bouncing into the ball. Is it as easy as just square the face?
Paul, once again you prove that you are THE MASTER....really , really enjoy watching and learning from you. Your lessons NEVER FAIL to help. This is a bunker tip like only YOU can show it. I will be practicing your bunker tip tomorrow morning !!...THANK YOU.
Hi Paul..went into the practice bunker yesterday. Your tip worker immediatley on the far flag, but,it took me a long while to make it work on the near close flag. It was me and I knew it. I was afraid to take a full swing on a close flag. After about 30 minutes I figured out that opening the face more and swinging easier it would work , and it did. I will continue to practice...look forward to more of your great videos. THANK YOU Paul..BE WELL.
Long term struggle getting out of the sand. Saw this video yesterday so tried it in league last night. Three for three getting out and the last two were excellent shots. Great tips.
New subscriber here. Your channel is great. Im a dad of three little ones that has zero time to practice, only lucky enough to play with friends on occasion. You help me to have fun out there and not embarrass myself!
Thanks for the sub! Having fun out there is the whole point. Keep it simple. Try to do practice swings at home working on the moves and drills I teach. Practice swings are the easiest way to work on it when you don't have time to get out there.
What a leap of faith this is. But it works. Still can’t get my head around it and tentative every time I do, but...it works! Used this a few weeks now and results are better for sure. Thanks Paul!
Well if what you were doing before was not working you need to make it more simple. This is simple and it works. Keep getting the ball out and you get confident.
Exactly. I saw another tip that taught people 16 things to get it out. Good luck. Simple is the key. Do it my way you will be out like a pro in no more than 5 mins.
That's great. I keep it super simple. The goal for most people is to get every ball out. This is the easiest way to do that. Glad you tried it and are successful.
Great video and will be implementing. I still struggle with uphill and downhill sand shots. I suspect there has to be adjustments for those. BTW love your visor. Staying loose is everything. Last Thursday I shot a 99. Yesterday I shot a 79 with an 8 on a par 5. I’m 72 yrs old. What do I attribute it to. I just stayed loose. From my grip to arm swing and body motion. My only swing thought was to finish my swing. It worked and made incredible contact 90% of the time. Surprisingly it worked for my putting also. Light grip and just moving my putter back and forth like a metronome. How does one knock 20 strokes off your round, playing the same course within 3 days of my worst round of the year? What a game this thing GOLF is. Gawd knows what my next round will be!
Wow. That's a huge drop in score. Good job. Yes, stay loose. As for the bunker shots it's really practicing from different lies. Open the face more or less and turn faster or slower. Stay loose for sure. This is the key for sure. Glad you see it.
This is amazing, went in bunkers twice today, open face 130 degrees, re-gripped the club, normal swing and they both out and 4 ft from the holes, only if I could make both putts LOL. Thanks Paul, enjoyed my better games tremendously.
Exactly. And there are actually people who doubt me. How many people have to hit amazing shots in minutes for them to believe it. Glad you tried it an got amazing results too. This will really help into the future.
Paul your tips are so good! They've taken the stress out of my game. With respect to this video on bunker shots would it work even if the wall is high? Also what should you do if wall is high and ball is next to the wall?
Thanks so much. I appreciate the feedback. As for a high wall you need to open the face wide open so the ball goes up not out. This means you have to trust it and swing harder to get enough power to get it up and onto the green. Give it a try and get the trust. Definitely need this shot in the bag.
At my Muni golf course, the "bunkers" range from being hard pan to a few that were re-built and have sand in them. For years, it was a Big struggle getting out of these bunkers, but with Paul's Way(s), I do better to where I no longer have FEAR. Thank you Paul!
Almost everything is clarified except one thing. I know it's definitely not hitting 3" behind the ball or ball first and sand. Hitting how far really behind the ball?
Hey golfers listen up......I watched Paul’s sand video and quite frankly didn’t know what to think. I am a single digit player and could typically get out of traps but always felt lucky. Plus I was not very good at judging distance....I was just happy I was out. So the other day I was in a green side bunker and I remembered Paul’s lesson. I had never tried it but thought why not....so I did what he suggested and bam out the first time with no difficulty at all. Actually the sound was perfect and the distance quite good......give this a shot. It will take the worry out of sand shots.
Hi Paul, went to the pratice bunker yesterday. Your tip worked immediatley on the far flag, but, I did have trouble on the near close flag. It was my fault and I knew it was my fault. I was apprehensive about taking a full swing with the flag so close. After about 30 minutes I learned to really open the face and swing a little softer and it worked. I will be back in the bunker again soon to pratice more. THANKS AGAIN Paul..BE WELL.
Standing on the range for now 30 years gets you to see things in a different perspective. I do like that line. I have a good one in this tip too: ruclips.net/video/TVNYaUEg1as/видео.html
Love the content Paul - Appreciate all of your guidance in simplifying golf. What if it is a hard compacted bunker? How do we change this setup? I understand we need to not have an open face as we need it to dig in more but what does that actually look like?
I figured out this winter that I had to move left. I still keep more weight on my front foot. But, the rest of the swing is the same. Thanks for the video.
Hello sir, love your coaching and I thank you! I used this technique all last year out of the bunker and it was the best sand play I ever had! This year I can’t do it? Every shot is consistent and the same, I keep launching them over the back of the green, every time! Would love any suggestions. On a side note I’ve been slowly but surely mastering your swing!
Thank you Paul. I Love your coaching styles. It helps me a lot. The drill you show how to relax wrists is helping me get rid of my shoulder pain. 👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏😎😎😎
Glad you liked it. Thanks. You would square the face and dig the feet in. You need it to act like a shovel to get it out of the wet sand. If you can't dig it then you are picking it off the surface. I would grip down a half inch and do more of the my pitching technique. 3/4 back and turn the belt buckle to hit the shot. Still need to get through it but don't swing too hard or you will hit it over the green.
Awesome tip! Changed my bunker game instantly. Also, worked for flop shots. I use the same principles but just use my legs (i.e., more knee flexion) to get lower than the ball instead of digging in as you do with the bunker shot. Thanks!
Paul, the sand at our club is hard and coarse, unlike the fine sand you have in this video. Are there any adjustments you suggest? I bought your Body Swing program and enjoy it because I'm learning so much about swinging easy and using my body and not JUST the arms. Thank you
For hard wet sand you need the club to act as a shovel. Square the face and align squarely. This will allow you to dig it out. Thanks for picking up my products. I truly appreciate the support. Be sure to do daily practice swings looking for the feedback in each position. This is the fastest way to get it. It's all about the movement. Get the movement ... you get the shots.
Ha!!! Your bunker method gets me out of every bunker now. I know you’re not surprised. Your suggestion of digging the feet in, holding the club with the face open with the logo off center, then swinging normally works perfectly- even in hard packed sand. Thank you Paul. - Massachusetts
Glad it helped! Once you can get them all out and on the green then go for the pin. Great feeling when you can get them all out. This will save you a ton of shots.
So many bunker videos have you thinking of 25 different things during set up…I love this video instruction because of how simple your thought processes are, the tips make sense in breaking down the technique, and I’m gonna try this next time I’m out on the course. Appreciate you sharing it!
Exactly. I watched one and the person taught 16 things. Good luck with that. I make it simple and in minutes the person will hit perfect bunker shots. Simple is the key. Give it a try and let us know how you do.
@@paulwilsongolf so hit the practice green today and got in the green side bunker. Dug my feet in, opened the club, and took my normal swing…perfect got it out and rolled within 5 ft. I hit 30 shots, some within 2 ft, 90% I got out and on the green! Thinned a few, got under a few…but couldn’t be happier! The hard part was just trusting the process and taking a full swing as I’m always think of blasting it over the green..tee…next hole😂…I like simplicity in my game…the less I have to think the better…my Dad on the other hand has 30 pre shot thoughts…I’m the opposite. Out of all the RUclips videos on green side bunker play, yours for me was the best and immediately paid off. Appreciate it!
Glad you like the tips. Simple is the key for sure. Make it complicated or difficult and no one will understand or get it. As you see with this one, bunker shots are simple. After you keep getting them out you will get the trust. Keep at it.
Great instruction on bunker swing. You used a pin that was a little further so I understand the full swing concept . what about a short distance to the pin from the bunker??? Would you still use a full swing
Thanks for the video Paul! Great advice on sand shots that I'm going to try this weekend. If the hole was closer, I assume that "it's (still) my regular swing", but the not as much of a backswing, but my same 'regular swing' and follow through....right?
I think the best bit is thinking of your belt buckle facing the mark in the sand to the left of your front foot. Makes sense. Gonna try it. I think 1 inch behind the ball should be right.
This is so amazing bunker shot thought, instruction very clear and reasonable, I have watching great bunker shot in PGA broadcast TV with really curious how professional do it , look confident and great result to pin , your tips may unlock my bunker shot , thank you
I think this is a good tip. Trying to aim at something other than the ball is just going to throw everything out of whack. I like to dig-in and put the ball about an inch forward in my stance. Does the trick.
I had a friend from Arkansas, said they had a lot of bunkers down there,he taught me how to get out.He was the only person I ever met who could hit a 1 iron well.
Getting it out of bunkers is critical for lowering your scores. Glad he taught you. 1 irons is a breeze. Used one many times when I was growing up. Pretty rare to see them now.
You mostly going to use your sand or lob wedge. Whatever you hit out of the bunker. You need to work on the technique first. Get every ball onto the green. Once you can get every ball from one bucket (different lies) on the green then start trying to dial it in. You do this by opening or closing the face more or less and/or turning your body faster or slower. It is that simple.
That's great. Great feeling when you get them out. Stay focused and keep working on it as I suggest then you will get them all out.
For long bunker shots I use yr technique with pitching wedge….very good result. Thank you.
You can do that. Just be careful not to dig in too deep.
Thank you.
Very good. So glad you found this one. Getting it out of bunkers is a great feeling. It take pressure off your long game too. Stick with it.
Great job. So easy to hit these shots. Makes the game a lot more fun. Keep at it.
last week I spent roughly 6hrs in the Bunker Practicing, hit about 260 balls, had a 75% success rate, still thinned a few and shanked a few, started again today, another 1,5hrs in the bunker, hit 63 balls and I'm saying an improvement up to at least 90% shanked only 1 ball and thinned about 4 balls straight over the green, I only practice when no one else is around.
Sound like you need my shank tip too:
ruclips.net/video/m9kj0548rYw/видео.html
I have literally fixed hundreds of shankers.
@@paulwilsongolf I'll have a look tomorrow
Glad you tried it and got results. So easy to get it out. Yes now you can try to dial it in.
watched yesterday, couldn't wait to get to the range today to test it out, from 40 balls I thinned 3, and that's because I didn't have the club face open, i've been sooo frustrated with bunker practice from last year and this year as I was thinning and shanking every single ball out of Bunker, and I now I know the reason why, I was twisting the clubface to an open positon, I WAS not letting go of the club to create an open face, today I did exactly what paul said AND low and behold 37 out of 40 balls came out of that bunker like they should, I made the mark in the sand, full body turn and hit the ball (or the sand) with the same swing, perfect, i'm a happy man again :-) simple really.
Glad you found me. Bunker shots are so easy. People have to want to do it. 10 mins of their life. Small price to pay to just try it. Oh well.
This absolutely works. Open/open/dig in/swing. Great lesson. Would love to see more short game lessons Paul. Thanks.
Thanks. I will post more short game tips in the future.
I’m in Ohio, so we haven’t been able to play or practice yet, but last week I went to Orlando and never struggled more in my life getting out of the sand. I watched this video when ngot home and went to my local practice bunker to give it a try. It works! Great video. Thanks. 5 stars!!!
Glad you tried it. As you see getting the ball out of the sand is easy. Too many people making this way too complicated. Keep at it.
So glad you tried it and saw how easy it is to get out of bunkers. This is a huge part of the game. Keep at it.
Glad you liked it. My technique will get you out in minutes. Been doing this for a long time with thousands of students. Let me know how you do.
Crazy how simple and logical this is! Thanks so much Paul!
You'll see.
Thank you Mr. Wilson for such lucid, clear teaching method, which has benefited my own playing immensely.

Glad to help. I appreciate the support.
I watched this video last night. Today I played and was in three bunkers - one greenside and two fairway. I hit three solid bunker shots. Thank you for the simplified and very effective approach to bunker shots!
Nice work! Simple is they key. Should save you a ton of shots.
@@paulwilsongolf Paul - Do you have a video on hitting out of fairway bunkers? I checked, but didn't see one. Thanks again for your help!
Thank you. This tip saved me 4 strokes today. I struggled with sand shots for years and this really works.
Glad it helped! Think of how great it will be if you can get out of bunkers every time. Great feeling.
Excellent teaching. All the stuff about putting your weight on the front foot just leads to digging. Best bunker instruction I ever saw.
Yeah, follow my tip. You will be hitting amazing bunker shots right away. Let me know how you do.
Great. That's works too. I just wanted to make it every more simple.
Great Lesson explained really well. I will now use this technique every time I land in bunkers. Thanks
I have not even tried this yet BUT you are the absolute best teacher! I will be posting an update. So excited to try.
No joke.
@@paulwilsongolf that's why I watch your vids ... simple ... then do it !
This really works. I struggled with sand shots for years. Since switching to open/open/dig in/swing I am 90%+ getting out of bunkers. Now can try approach shots over bunkers as not afraid of going in bunkers.
I hope the doubters are seeing this. Another one fixed. Good job.
I am beyond excited to play this weekend. Your coaching is Brilliant
Thanks Paul. Australia 🇦🇺
Glad you are improving. You will see your bunker shots will be a breeze into the future.
It sure does. Been teaching this for years and can get anyone hitting perfect bunker shots in minutes. Glad you found it and having success too.
What a great lesson!!!! It helps!!!
Thanks, Stavros
Glad you liked it. Thanks.
Glad to hear it! Thanks.
This is a game changer for me. I've always been taught to slam the sand before the ball. This totally works and the best part is that I use the same swing you taught me in "The Body Swing". Thanks for another great tip!!
Happy to help!
I went to practice your tips this afternoon and believe me I have improved my bunker shots 100% thank you very much again for your tips!
Great to hear! This is a super important part of the game.
Thank you for showing this tip , I’ve had that misconception about hit 3 inches behind it for many years. I will no longer fear the sand lol
Great to hear. Bunker shots are so easy once you know what to do. Glad you got it. This will make a big difference in your game.
Great tip Paul. Haven’t left a ball in the bunker since I watched your video. You totally uncomplicated the bunker shot. Thanks.
Very good. These shots are so simple. Hope the doubters are reading this.
I have to update on how great this tip is. I’ve been Keeping track, I’m 20 for 22 with 5 sandies and no more worries in the sand after a month.
Very good. Great knowing you can get it out of the sand. Takes pressure off of your long game.
Glad to help. These are important shots so keep at it.
although my distance to the pin wasn't great, I was able to get out of the 2 bunkers I was in and have a chance at par saves with this tip. after basically not being able to get out of the sand before my confidence has skyrocketed in just 2 attempts.
Follow up ..5 rounds since I watched the bunker video and its no longer if I get out but how close to the hole...great video..no fear no longer!
That's great. Just as I expected. So simple to get it out. Now the fun begins.
Have always had trouble with bunker...no matter how many lessons. Have just watched you video and will be taking it to the game. So much easier. Brilliant,
You will be hitting perfect bunkers in minutes. Let me know how you do.
@@paulwilsongolf Hi. Didn't land in any bunkers because I have used your lessons on hitting with straight extended arms two feet after ball contact and the power of hips and legs to create a nice steady rotation. @@paulwilsongolf Have sent your youtube to a couple of mates in Australia. Cheers
Ty
I watched this last night.
Jim
Great job! Imagine how many shots this is going to save you.
Can't wait to try this tip and trick out!! Bunkers are not my friend......I do the weight shift, dig down and stab at the ball.... but this looks like my game changer!!! Thanks Paul!
Just follow it and you will be hitting perfect bunker shots in minutes.
Great tip Paul.....makes bunker play fun and takes the panic out of worrying about a bunker ruining a good round.....thanks
Yes it does! You don't need to be worried hitting bunker shots that's for sure.
Great instructions.. Love all your videos… you have helped me bring down my score by a lot
Great to hear! Glad you found this one for bunker shots. Keep it simple.
This is pure gold thank you Paul
Too bad. Well into the future definitely try it. They pop out so easy. Then you get confident.
This is as good of a tip on bunker shots that I have ever seen ! And to take a normal 7 iron swing, never heard of such a thing til now. Thanks Paul
Glad you enjoyed it
I tense up whenever I go into a bunker this tip seems so simple, I can't wait to give it a try.
This is so simple. I have been getting people out for years in minutes. You've got this. Let me know how you do.
Wow. This 100% worked for me. Came out high and soft with spin with my 58 degree. Used the same technique in the grass for a flop shot. Just no digging my feet in of course. Thank you!!!
Very good. Keep it simple. It's important you get it out. Once you can it will give you a lot more confidence.
Many thanks! It will work. Once it does, please post your results.
Very good. You figured it out. Now trust it.
Great coach. I always correct my problem by watching your tips.
Thanks so much. Glad your with me.
Long term struggle getting out of the sand. Saw this video yesterday so tried it in league last night. Three for three getting out and the last two were excellent shots. Great tips.
Excellent. Thanks for posting your success. I hope others see it works and try it. There is not reason people should struggle out of the bunkers.
Thank you Paul for this excellent lesson. It is about time someone taught us how to execute this difficult shot in golf.
Exactly. I saw another tip that taught people 16 things to get it out. Good luck. Simple is the key. Do it my way you will be out like a pro in no more than 5 mins.
Practice this yesterday and WOW 🤩 so much easier then what I was doing. Practice to build confidence then take to course.
That's great. I keep it super simple. The goal for most people is to get every ball out. This is the easiest way to do that. Glad you tried it and are successful.
"You don't even have time to practice one swing let alone two" 🤣 So true!!! Hate the bunkers but can't wait to try this. Thank you 🙏🏽
No doubt. People keep thinking inside the box. See the big picture. Glad you do.
That's great news. Saves a lot of shots.
Almost everything is clarified except one thing. I know it's definitely not hitting 3" behind the ball or ball first and sand. Hitting how far really behind the ball?
Excellent tip with all the explanations as to why it should work.
Glad you liked it!
Glad you tried it. Simple is the key. Works like a charm.
Nice work! Yes, you figured it out. Open the face for sure. Trust. You're welcome!
You don’t even have time to practice one swing yet alone two! You have the best one liners
Standing on the range for now 30 years gets you to see things in a different perspective. I do like that line. I have a good one in this tip too: ruclips.net/video/TVNYaUEg1as/видео.html
Brilliant way to get information to clients
Thanks so much.
Love the content Paul - Appreciate all of your guidance in simplifying golf. What if it is a hard compacted bunker? How do we change this setup? I understand we need to not have an open face as we need it to dig in more but what does that actually look like?
Glad you like it. Thanks. Just need a square stance and face. They will pop right out.
@@paulwilsongolf hit the ball like normal. Got it haha. Thank you!
I figured out this winter that I had to move left. I still keep more weight on my front foot. But, the rest of the swing is the same. Thanks for the video.
Good stuff!
It sounds like you are swinging way to hard and coming out if it. Slow down. Loosen up. Also don't grip down. Smooth.
Thank you Paul. I Love your coaching styles. It helps me a lot. The drill you show how to relax wrists is helping me get rid of my shoulder pain. 👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏😎😎😎
Great to hear! You should be playing plain free in the near future.
Awesome as always, now let's get your tip for those hard packed bunkers like the Muni's I play around here!
Thanks!
Very good. If that worked for you then keep doing it.
I've always hitting the ball with irons on the toe most the time and it would sometimes what am I doing wrong
Already answered this: ruclips.net/video/X_pF7x-OCXU/видео.html
This video was great....got out of every bunker with confidence!....and decent distance! Thanks!
Glad it helped! Once you can get them all out and on the green then go for the pin. Great feeling when you can get them all out. This will save you a ton of shots.
@@paulwilsongolf it did today....picking the ball out of fairway bunkers still a problem!
Open the face more. Still full swing.
Thanks for the video Paul! Great advice on sand shots that I'm going to try this weekend. If the hole was closer, I assume that "it's (still) my regular swing", but the not as much of a backswing, but my same 'regular swing' and follow through....right?
Thanks. Could open the face more too!
I think the best bit is thinking of your belt buckle facing the mark in the sand to the left of your front foot. Makes sense. Gonna try it. I think 1 inch behind the ball should be right.
Glad you liked it. This tip can get people hitting bunker shots in minutes. Keep it simple.
This is so amazing bunker shot thought, instruction very clear and reasonable, I have watching great bunker shot in PGA broadcast TV with really curious how professional do it , look confident and great result to pin , your tips may unlock my bunker shot , thank you
So easy. Just follow this. I can get people hitting perfect bunker shots in minutes. Simple is the key.
The way Paul talks...'like this is so simple people how can you not get this'. I love it.
No doubt. Got to give people hope. Make it complicated they will never get it.
I think this is a good tip. Trying to aim at something other than the ball is just going to throw everything out of whack. I like to dig-in and put the ball about an inch forward in my stance. Does the trick.
Glad you liked it. Gets people out in minutes.
The best bunker tip on the internet - legend!
I would agree. So glad you found it and tried it. Bunker shots really are simple.
Tried this an worked pretty good. But what clubs do you use and how do you esrimate the distance to the flag?
You mostly going to use your sand or lob wedge. Whatever you hit out of the bunker. You need to work on the technique first. Get every ball onto the green. Once you can get every ball from one bucket (different lies) on the green then start trying to dial it in. You do this by opening or closing the face more or less and/or turning your body faster or slower. It is that simple.
Been watching you since 2011, your simple techniques have improved my game. You're the go to instructor when I need immediate help.
Thanks so much. I appreciate it. Simple is the key for sure.
I was so tempted to watch this video while I was in the bunker this weekend. I forgot a couple key points and it wasn’t pretty.
So simple. Watch it again then give it another try. This is 5 mins. to perfect bunker shots.
