I dropped a fucking gas tank (cylinder gas tank) on my fucking foot because of the lack of THAT lip in a Kia Sportage. It broke my toe. LOL. I never had this problem with my MK6. So yeah.. you are 100% right.
The amount of times one parks upwards on a hill loading items such as that versus carrying large items over a boot lip with the car parked normally lol. Besides, a lot of cargo areas in cars have dividers and stoppers for that reason anyway.
I just bought the 1.4 TSI and I'm loving it. You call it boring I call it understated and versatile. I enjoy driving it and the interior feels amazing.
Why do UK spec cars almost never get xenon or led headlights as standard? It's 2017 and I cant believe that halogen headlights are still used in classes of cars like Golf.
Its a car to get from A to B in comfort. Very easy to drive, even in bad weather. Golf is made to be boring, but it handles really well. It does not play with your emotions but in end of the day - you feel relaxed and miles pass without any strain. About dsg: after this any manual car will make you feel more engaged, but after returning to golf, from Monday til Friday you wouldn't change it to any other similar car.
I've always loved Vw Golfs and I've owned 2 so far. This new model looks fantastic but I don't like the fact that Vw have stopped putting in lockable glove boxes nowadays. I'm not allowed to take a phone into work so I always lock my phone away in my Golfs glovebox. I do the same when at the gym. It would be nice to have the option.
You wouldnt drive a better car. So refined and smooth. I feels actually how a car shoul d drive. Its at least up there with the best standard everyday car
Undoubtedly the 2018 Polo underwent the biggest physical change. It could be told apart from previous gen's more readily. This Golf? Well yes it looks good for what it is but I really wouldn't know it was the latest Golf if it drove past me.

I however think that this golf only needed an interior update the mk7 facelift with the led hookshaped running lights just looks really modern and alao really good overall i think the 7 looks better then the 8
Love that color! Sadly it can only be had on the Arteon and maybe the Atlas/Tiguan in the US. But I got my 2019 Golf Sportwagen in White Silver which is in its own right a gorgeous color as well. The Mk7 Golf is just a such nice car I love it. So sad that the Mk8 won’t be sold here except for the GTI/Golf R.
I’ve tested a few new car’s lately to replace my great but small 2015 Hyundai i10 , nearly every car middle seat is awful to get in to !! This video shows the problem !!!
I have mixed feelings about the Golf and that is mainly down to it been very expensive for what it is and the diesel gate scandal. Then again it has the best built cabin (although Astra runs it close), best cubby spaces and a decently sized boot. The Golf had decent sized door bins that fitted bottles in them and rear air vents before anybody else in the class had them. A mid spec Golf has a rear arm rest with cupholders where equivalent Foci or Astra's don't have this. The Golf only scores ok for reliability but the Foci and Astra's don't do much better. Ya get more speakers in a Mid spec Golf for better audio quality than an equivalent Astra or Focus. These are just a few examples so those who are saying a Golf is crap or cheaply made ya are talking through your hole IMO. I do wish it wasn't so expensive though. The design is boring yes but not ugly either.
The New Astra may look cool. However the reliability on Astra is very bad. My gear box broken at on 42k miles. End up spent £2400 for a replacement. I will never buy anything from Vauxhall.
Honestly, I'd buy one, it is really spacious and useful, not too big, not small at all, looks good and it's a Golf, what's could go wrong? And that boot is amazing
Love the videos, one bit of feedback; in your practicality reviews, would it be possible to demonstrate a rear facing child seat? My partner and I are both tall and we've found it quite a struggle with a car seat (pebble plus) including its isofix base. Using these together really reduces the amount of leg room the front passenger has. We have a Merc C class and BMW X1 and were shocked at how much space a rear facing car seat and base takes up. It might be useful for others, especially with the recent change in law extending the required age for a child to be rear facing.
Hi Mark! We're always looking for ways to make both our practicality and infotainment reviews more useful for buyers, so your feedback is really appreciated. While we currently fit a forward-facing child seat in our practicality vids, you make a very valid point that rear-facing seats take up more space, so might cause a few more headaches when fitting. We'll certainly consider the possibility of introducing a rear-facing child seat to videos in the future. Thanks, Alex.

runforit420 My Citroen C1 has a 1.2 3 cylinder, its average fuel economy ranges from 55.1-55.3 mpg. That is pretty good. However the C1 is smaller than the Golf and I would never spec such a small engine in a car this size.
Scott Sherman You are complete right. The 123 hp 1.0L 3 in the Focus has to pull too heavy of a car. In North America, that engine can be optioned with a six speed automatic also!
runforit420 Yep Exactly, and once the Focus is loaded up with people and luggage the car isn't going to move! A 6 speed automatic? That seems overkill, and I can bet the gearbox is constantly/always changing gear "for fuel economy" despite then fact that half the time the car needs the gear they were already in.
Ah, because my mum had one of the lower pored version and a neighbour had a higher powered one and back to back there is a very noticeable difference in ride an handling especially around town and over potholes/speed bumps. Things that the independent rear suspensioned cars would handle ok with would send the whole cabin shuddering and swaying in the beam axles version. It also liked to skip over sleeping policemen making the car kangaroo.
I detected a little shade when testing the new Corolla hatch...yes its abit of a squeeze inside due to the styling, and the infotainment is Toyota's only issue which is surely due to in-fighting with sub contractors, but the Toyota will last 20 years longer than a VW in 10..! I love VW's and always have, but the darn comparo to other yotas and hondas it is inferior.
Zero Ninety You say it is better than all the others, but again how is it easily the best car? In what areas/respects is it the best. You dont quantify you generalistic statement. The Golf is a good all rounder, yet in reality it does not stand out in any one area, be it handling, styling, reliability, warranty, space. It is a safe but boring choice in this class. An efficient German appliance that does little to tug at the heartstrings in any way.
How good is the 1.6 diesel in match trim?? I need to choose between a 1.0 new Focus/ 1.5 Seat Leon and 1.6 petrol Astra (200hp Elite Nav) or the Golf. I do a lot of driving as a teacher and journalist!

Easily the best car in its class. That colour is hideous though.
I prefer the Astra tbh
I prefer the Hyundai
Zero Ninety In what way is it "easily the best" car in its class?
By being a better car than the others.
Great reviews, but maybe you could for future let us know how the sound system sounds!!
I'm 6'2 (193cm tall), won't this car be too small for me? I'm talking about the legroom for the driver
For the driver absolutely not, you can get comfortable even in the Polo, but obviously in the rear there won't be much room.
My dad is the same, it’s very comfortable for him so you should be just fine,
6ft2 is 188cm mate lol
How good is the 1.6 diesel in match trim?? I need to choose between a 1.0 new Focus/ 1.5 Seat Leon and 1.6 petrol Astra (200hp Elite Nav) or the Golf. I do a lot of driving as a teacher and journalist!
I got the highline version 2019 it is so clean
Thanks for the review, I've been looking for a golf tsi for my son, is it really worth to pay £2500 extra for the 1.5 or is the 115bhp 0ne liter sufficient?
