    I own a 2014 Golf R Dsg with 36K miles on the clock and can I first congratulate you on the most concise listing of potential Golf Mk7 faults that I have ever seen. Your reputation of being the most thorough and knowledgeable reviewer out there is exemplified by this video.
    I just want people to know how reliable a Golf Mk7 can be. I have had my car for six years now and in that time repair wise it has only needed a new water pump seal and a wheel speed sensor and two new cornering light bulbs. I service the car regularly and don't drive like a maniac in it but I am no saint either as I enjoy the cars delightful supple balance and traction and it's effortless ground covering ability when mated to the addictive rapid fire Dsg box. I simply can not recommend the car highly enough. It gets through tires quite quickly though as a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4's only typically lasts about 8000 miles for me. I only cover 5000 miles annually so this has some bearing on the wear for sure. I am on my second set of brake pads but still on the original discs. The best car I have ever owned without even a shadow of a doubt. Good job VW. 👍

      WTF? Only 8.000 miles for Michelin PS4??? There tyres are known for lasting 5 times that. There must be something wrong with the car. Aligement, wheel bearing play, track rod end play, suspension play, worn out shock absorbers,...

    • @neilmcguinness4422
      @neilmcguinness4422 Год назад +3

      @@DashCamSerbia VW checked the car as I thought something could be amiss but everything is fine including wheel alignement and the tyre wear is even across all four tyres etc. I have just had the Haldex service also and this is in fine health. The car truly has zero mechanical defects. I have just put PS5's on at the rear and see how long they last in comparison. VW have commented that I must have a heavy right foot as does my own regular mechanic and everyone I discuss this issue with and I think that may be the case to be honest but I am 56 years of age and no boy racer by any means.. The car is a Golf R and is hard to drive slowly on the right open road. It passes it's MOT every year also I must add so looking for any weird hidden mechanical defects is a waste of time.. 🤣🤣🤣😛

    What a brilliant and comprehensive guide and very accurate. As a mk 7 owner (2014 model) I've suffered the leaking water from the rear tail light which went into the spare wheel area and into the back seats. I've also had the glass from the mirror flapping about which I had to superglue back on.
    I have a 1.4 TSI (120 HP) with the 7 speed dry clutch DSG. Looks like I could be heading for big trouble and big repairs in the future... Maybe I should sell it it and buy a Toyota or Honda instead... 🤔

    This video is 📠.
    He only forgot about the seized electric parking brake 😅 … guaranteed failure point on all MK7’s. (They can be rebuild).
    Also I will never admit that my 1.2 TSi which I’ve owned for 5 years has an oil consumption issue 🤣.
    The 1.0 in the 2017 is probably the best engine for the Golf (if you don’t do long motorways) we’ve bought it last year and after 35.000 it hasn’t given us any issues EVER. Although the displacement and the torque is suspicious …
    This video gave me joy. Because I love this platform. And I love learning from it. Never knew the automatic in the 1.8 for the US wasn’t a DSG … anybody have more info on that gearbox?

    I own and daily drive the 1.6 TDi and it is very weak when 3 people or more sit in it. The consumption isn't really much better than the 2.0 TDi so I would take the 2.0 TDi over this one. Though it was very reliable with about 3,5-4 Liter consumption on 100km. I would be interested to buy myself a GTD Variant (wagon) the moment the car market has come to peace again.

    • @differentcarreview-dcr
      @differentcarreview-dcr  Год назад +1

      there is a specific flushing method for this issue introduced by VW, according to this method you need specific chemicals and it has to be flushed numerous times
      on the other side many owners just used water to flush it with more or less success
      however you will have to most probably replace the heater core, since it has so thin passages that its most of the time not possible to get rid of the crap which gets stuck in it

    • @differentcarreview-dcr
      @differentcarreview-dcr  Год назад +2

      there is no other reason to avoid it except that
      -you can minimize the oil consumption with: early oil changes - after 8000 km, using good oil, using good quality fuel + using the car mainly on longer distances (but if the oil scraper rings are already clogged too much, then these are not gonna help that much)
      -using the car mainly on short distances + long oil change intervals + bad quality fuel are gonna contribute to clogged oil scraper rings and oil consumption

      @@differentcarreview-dcr I have this engine (2016, 1.2TSI, 110hp) and since I don't use the car a lot, the oil consumption is not much of a issue if you keep regular maintenance. On the other hand, I have been hearing a click noise (as if the gear is engaging) when I change gears and I don't really know what this could be or if this is normal for these cars, the mechanic told me that next time we can also check the transmission and gear box just to be sure, but also mentioned that if the click doesn't get louder I should not worry... what do you think? have you ever had this issue?

      its better to avoid the TSI engines made to early 2014, since these engines are more prone to excessive oil consumption, these are:
      1.2 TSI 63 kW
      1.2 TSI 77 kW
      1.4 TSI 90 kW
      1.4 TSI 103kW (this one is most probably not affected)
      so I would definitely avoid these
      from the smaller petrol engines I would choose the: 1.4 TSI 92 kW, 1.2 TSI 81 kW or 1.0 TSI

    I mean, what is wrong with regular water pump ? Why make it switchable ?

    • @differentcarreview-dcr
      @differentcarreview-dcr  Год назад +4

      with the switchable water pump the engine heats up more quickly + it maybe reduces the fuel consumption and emissions by 0.01%
      in my opinion some engineer maybe engineers had to demonstrate that they are not useless, so they designed this useless piece of sh.

      @DashCamSerbia Год назад +1

      @@differentcarreview-dcr It saves on fuel and emissions way more then 0.01%, maybe like 0.5%. And it is not engineers who decide to do this, it is the legislations. Engineers do what they can, constricted by the time and money budget, to provide the best compomise solution.

      the EA888 gen 3 with both Port and Direct injection is the better engine. Heck this thing is far more reliable than the equivalent Mercedes/BMW engines.
