    The MK7.5 is hands down the best version out there. Why? Because it keeps things simple and practical. Unlike newer cars that make you rely on touchscreens for everything, the MK7.5 has physical controls for stuff like heating, ventilation, and volume. You can adjust these without taking your eyes off the road, which is super handy.
    Plus, the quality is top notch. It’s got that perfect mix of modern tech, like Apple CarPlay, without shoving a huge infotainment screen in your face. It’s all about balance, you get the cool tech you need without the distractions you don’t. The MK7.5 just gets it right.

      VW is forced to squeeze every penny of profit out of the Golf due to their massive losses with EV’s (as well as Dieselgate). Unfortunately this results in lower quality interiors (which used to be a differentiator for VW), no knobs for climate controls, low resolution cameras and in general a vehicle that is less competitive with Japanese and Korean alternatives.

    • @Olliebobalong
      @Olliebobalong 4 месяца назад +4

      @@roch145it’s been nearly 10 years since the diesel thing. VW are the second largest automaker in the world. Don’t make out Japanese or Korean or French cars in this class are built with fine materials either. They aren’t. They are all cutting costs trying to run 2 entirely different lineups at once, plus with Euro 6/7 regulations of emissions that add at least £5k to the cost of the average car, is why car manufacturers are genuinely having a rough time of it. Volvo have put nearly all controls in the screen, no speakers in the doors, no switches to save on production costs so everything is as close to the middle of the car. They are all at it.

    • @roch145
      @roch145 4 месяца назад

      @@Olliebobalong The problem with Dieselgate (even though it was 8 years ago) is it cost VW at least $15 billion. They lost market share. They lost brand loyalty. They lost sales. You see more innovation in Japanese brands (especially style and quality from Mazda) as well as Korean brands. VW continues to devalue their brand and market niche with all of their cost cutting. The market share losses in the US are staggering. Bad management, poor leadership, too conservative in their design philosophy. All have contributed to losses. VW products always seem to come up short compared to the competition. In the US, nothing of VW’s German heritage is in their products. In the US, you can’t get an ID4 with a heat pump, which improves range and efficiency, while competitors offer heat pumps. The ID4 comes with drum brakes, to save money, while competitors have disk brakes. As far as emissions requirements, all manufacturers are tasked with the same challenge. Unfortunately, government regulators are using emissions regulations as a mechanism to force the termination of ICE vehicles. The European politicians are doing a wonderful job killing their auto and manufacturing businesses. The thought police are empowered now and emboldened. This is what you get when you elect socialists.

Hiding basic functions on a touch screen is really annoying, and is one of the reasons I won’t buy another VW. At least they’ve fixed the steering wheel issue that people were having, now they just need to fix everything else they’ve broken.

    Did a test drive with the new Passat since my lease of the previous Passat is going to end soon. It also didn't let me drive in peace, constantly reminding me to take my foot off the gas and that I am over speed limit, but that's just how we drive and how the traffic flows. Tried to turn it off, then restarted the car, and it was on again. Needless to say - scratched it off the shortlist.

It was incredibly smooth, I immediately picked up on everything and everything went superbly well, from parking and narrow streets through highway driving to motorways and fast traffic. But this...? Not only I would never want those touch sliding buttons, I dont believe I would ever remember to tap them twice to switch funcionality from climate control to seats heating control.

      The problem is, customers in focus groups often don't think about the implications of daily use, or use the correct criteria to assess if they will really like something.

      Thought the same. Front, the grill goes straight across, and side view no longer has part of front bumper wrapping around. More angular vs round edges.

    I’m satisfied with the interior changes for the MK8.5 Golf’s. Much better than the MK8.

    43mpg!! My 2021 15:11 Kia Niro hybrid easily does 60mpg both in town and long journeys. Golf is a nice car but dated design and engines with not even mild hybrid tech across the range. VW wasted too much cash on developing EVs which could have been better used on Toyota and Kia rivalling hybrid tech.

    • @Grassyfieldsflowers
      @Grassyfieldsflowers 4 месяца назад

      Yeah my mk7 1.6L diesel gets 50-65mpg, but in this new world of clean air zones apparently a class 4 petrol with worse efficiency is better for the environment.

    • @Grassyfieldsflowers
      @Grassyfieldsflowers 4 месяца назад

      But I completely agree they went too all in to electric like everyone else and should have developed their hybrid range much more. The Japanese have been smart and obviously realised common sense that electric cars were too expensive and impractical for the masses and so I think they will do very well in the next couple of years.

    A few things, on these cars I feel like no one mentions it because its kind of a hidden feature but if you hold the interior lights they will change the brightness so thy can go dimmer or get pretty bright. Another thing, what's up with the rear view camera? My 19 R had a way better rear view camera, is it VW cost cutting or is it something else?

    My biggest gripe about my GTI is the lack of rear space. I once had a 2007 Nissan Versa 6spd manual hatchback (bought it brand new for $12k insane right!!). Loved that car but most importantly, the rear space was incredible! And folding the seats down, I could fit 3 full suspension enduro mountain bikes in in with all the gear! It was so good in that regard. It’s just not the same in my MK7 GTI, which is a letdown. But the GTI is so much better in so many other areas over the Versa.

    I have so many problems with my mk8 from the steering wheel needing changing (lane assist problem) to problems with the car not starting. Dispensing they need to get their game up. All this started after 60000 km and 2 years after I bought the car. Which I find quite interesting 😂

    Hello, so I have some tips for amazing new cars that I BEG you to review. First, new Toyota Camry. It looks amazing and it is amazing. Even the pre-gen 2021 model was incredible. Second, the all-new Subaru Outback. The pre-gen model was dull inside and lacked "modernity". Everything is changed now. We get new facelift, a giant panoramic screen... and a CD player still remains! And lastly? Uh... I don't know if you can get it, but if you do, then please review a Dongfeng U-Tour. It's a Chinese 7-seater MPV, that looks cool, and it's incredible value for money, but I wasn't able to drive it yet, so I would love to see Matt reviewing that car. Thank you!

    I have a VW T-Roc with slider heating controls. Despite learning the controls, it’s still necessary to look down every time. My previous Tiguan, Polo and Golf were rotary controls and you could use them without taking your eyes off the road. It’s a retrograde step in safety. In no other profession or technology would such a step back in safety be allowed!! It’s as dangerous as using a mobile phone. Just yesterday, near me, a car driver ran over a lady on a zebra crossing (seen on CCTV) and they admitted they had just looked down at the control screen of their car at the time !!

    That radiator/condenser is very vulnerable for little rocks in the front without any protection. You better keep a big distance to the vehicle in front of you.
