@@abou8963 Their future is NOT in her hands, she has absolutely no obligation to them whatsoever, and if you'd ever suffered narcissistic abuse yourself, you would see just how cruel your comment really is. Those of us who have endured narcissistic abuse grow up with a sense of responsibility to our parents that is totally unwarranted: to regulate their emotions, to be "good" so as not to upset them, to put their needs before our own, etc etc. We are basically brought up to be the parents to our parents, and that's wrong.
One of the most important aspects in healing from this abuse is the realization that you never had an obligation to your parents; that they, as parents, failed in their obligation to YOU to nurture and cultivate your individual life, and put YOUR needs above their own. Certainly as parents age, most children feel a sense of duty to help care for them in their old age, but even then we still need to learn how to put ourselves first and take care of our own needs first in order to be of any help to them or to anyone else. And helping to care for one's elderly parents isn't an obligation per se, but simply an act of compassion. She isn't duty-bound to her parents in any way, and she's certainly not responsible for their "salvation." Shame on you for pushing your religious beliefs on others without having any empathy or understanding for what they may be going through, or even any simple common sense...not very "Christlike" of you.

Wow. Your story knocked my socks off.
You have just described my mother and our relationship to the T.
Lucky for me, my father was not like your father, but he couldn't save me from her covertly narcissism!!!!
I am 59, Eastern European, but I can relate to every single word or emotion to yours.
And I can tell you one thing. After many different and some years lasting psychological therapy+ I have been on antidepressant for years( works very well for me), I still can't shake off feelings of guilt, emptiness, betrayal towards my mother !!!!
Learning about her being emotionally unavailable and manipulative parent didn't bring relief as I expected.
It brought me all the mentioned emotions. Although I intellectually understand that it wasn't (only) my fault, I still feel guilt for letting down my mother for understanding the dynamic of her emotional, psychological, and other forms of abuse( beating us up during childhood to late teens).
On the surface, she was a good mother, good professional, excellent provider....
    Sad, sad, sad !!!!
