This format of letting the car guy riff while he’s working is my favorite and needs to be done more. Feels like we’re hanging out in the garage together, shooting that breeze. Thanks Chip.
George and Dean built something special, in good hands now, at 73 and a car nut since birth, I remember the cars very well. My grandpa and I went to car shows before were as popular as today. Many were homebuilt unlike today
Watching Chip do all that menial work on this car instead of having his guys do it shows how much respect he has for the work Barris and Jefferies did on this rig. No other big name guy would do this, which is why Chip is THE MAN!
This is not menial work but rather details that demand total understanding of all the parameters as well as a willingness to do the tedious work which requires observation and evaluation as he moves through the process. Chip is the modern master.
I am loving this revival.😎 Thanks for sharing it with us all. There is almost nothing I enjoy more than slowly cleaning and detailing an old car by hand, no power tools. Just taking your time, letting the car talk to you as you go. By the time you are done, you know her so well.
You are doing the right thing with this car. This car is a one of a kind piece of art, you will never get a chance to do this again. Thank goodness you came along and helped these guys hopefully someone will drive and show this car.
Wow, that is a wonderful save. My Grandfather had a 1950 Chevrolet 2-door. All original with 66,000 miles. It had been sitting in a garage in Western Kansas for 40+ years. My plans are to preserve, protect, and save. It is such a survivor, this car needs to be in a museum.
Chip, can't thank you and your diligence/knowledge/effort enough. Not only are you bringing it back faithfully, we are all learning WHY this should be done. BTW, I was born the same year as the bottle of whiskey , LOL.
I want to say, THANK YOU Mr. Foose for your dedication to keeping this car as original as anyone could! It is automotive history and should be preserved! THANK YOU sir!
My God man, that looks amazing. Even the chrome on the bumpers. I would leave them personally as they show the honesty and age of the build. Can't wait to see it finished and back on the road.
Original work by George Barris, Dean Jeffries and others is a marvel to see up close. The level of restraint and patience necessary to separate the dirt from the work executed by true craftsmen of 65 years ago is admirable. Carry On !!!
I believe one of the people that did work for George Burris was Dan Woods who built the Woods Wild Milk Truck and I believe did a lot of work on the Munsters coffin car.
Gosh Chip, what a labor of love. You can tell you truly love your job.. and as always you do such amazing work in everything you do. Just beautiful!!!!.. wow!!! That’s gonna be one special old car! Thank you for sharing this to us all.👍👍👍👍
Thank you for the presentation. My Dad was of this vintage. I watched him chopping tops and custom lead work. Even spraying led. Thank you for keeping a part of this generation alive.
GOD Love you for keeping a Barris/Jeffries custom “original”! I started building AMT kits about that time with the Barris add ons in the box. I still have most of them. Later in school living in small villages up here in Alaska I would customize snow machines and motorcycles. After moving to Anchorage in my 20’s I got into cars. Won a few car shows over the years because of those influences from my AMT days. The sons must be so proud of Dad and thankful of You!
It's great just watching Chip at work without any other human distractions involved. Just Chip and a clay bar and a few different waxes reviving an old cherished hot rod. All is good in the world during this video.
Without a doubt, this is my favorite car series going on right now on RUclips, and I watch a LOT of car content! I love how Chip explains the process of how this car was built and how and why he is taking the steps he is, and is not, to restore it. I don't live far from North Bend so it also hits home to think this car has been here, in Washington, this whole time and is such an iconic part of history. Thank you, Chip for taking your time with this car, documenting your process for us, and for just being an all-around good guy!
If you don't have at least one bloody finger, you're doing it wrong......Great job Chip, you cant replace that honest patina. Cant wait to see it in all its glory.
Man... I could watch this ALL day... You're treating it like a first born child, that was born with a fragility to it. You're very careful about how you treat it, how you touch it, and even how you talk about it... You are one of the few GOATs left, when it comes to classic cars; Chip!
@hemmingmotornews - I love the honest, loving respect Chip is showing to this awesome car! Far too many would ignore that and demand a +/-65yr old car be crisp and "perfect".
I’ve been thoroughly enjoying this whole serie’z… It’z a thrill listening to you ‘chat’ with all of us, as you explain each and everything you are doing…
First of all, I can't believe this car was slumbering practically in my back yard, but I'm also just sitting here listening and watching this in a world full of so much noise and garbage and here is this piece of content, where one of the great custom car guys of our time is lovingly bringing back a time capsule and sharing his process and the history of not only the car, but how it was created with all of us. I'm glad this car was not "restored" as was suggested in the earlier video unveiling it with the family. Thanks for bringing all of us along Chip!!
Long time fan of your work! Your work 'cleaning' this historical surviving piece of rolling art is laudable (and wholly in character for who you are)! It's only original once. Kudos!!!!
like most, i love patina!.. but i dont care for "fake" or created patina we see alot of these days. its like my old 501s... earned holes n rips are ok but factory tears?.... nah.... and yeah!.. i love the photos from the build 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Chip, what a pleasure to see you use the same method that I used back when that car was built. Nothing has changed I'm 81' and have been still doing the same process.
an ultimate display of deep respect and admiration towards your predecessors…for some reason this reminds me of messaging my dear, long time passed grandmother… thanks for sharing brother!
Chip is one of very few ‘influencers’ in his field that has enough respect for what once was, to leave it as-is. THAT’S creative, and professional maturity at its finest.
🤩WOW 🤩. Original patina looks great.👍!! Leaving it as original as possible is the only way to go & Chip understands that. FOOSE IS A LEGEND NEVER REPRODUCED!!! Great job 👏 guys !!! Blessings 🙏🌺🌸🌼
Beautiful job Chip! That is definitely a historic icon piece. I'm glad it's being taken care of by your knowledge and your hands. That means this car has had 3 of the best hot rodders work on it👍🏻
Chip, I've been following you for years. IIRC the first custom I saw of yours was a '64 Impala(?). But, this is by far the most interesting project of yours that I've seen. Thanks for sharing the cleanup with us.
Wow Chip,That beauty is coming back really well. I am glad to see it in the hands of a master, it will be an inspiration to those ahead for years to come.
Great video, so glad Chip is helping the owners clean this car. Its a work of art, the builders were at the forefront of car modification and custom paint jobs. It must have looked like a space ship when it first drove into the sunshine and off down the street. 👍👍
It’s amazing how things have changed over the years with regard to paint finishing I remember when you were trying to get a good paint finish you always had a little more thinners in the paint to get that good off the gun shine and if the temperature and pressure were just right the paint laid down real nice and then all it needed was a quick whip over with the lambs wool pad and all done I suspect it did look a bit more shiny but not much compared to today’s mirror finish I sometimes think they way too shiny but I think that’s just showing my age So looking forward to the next video chip 👍👍🇦🇺
Greetings from the UK absolutely brilliant Chip totally awesome and agree with the respect that you and your team are showing this beautiful iconic car❤
Chip could certainly afford to pay someone to do this but he’s just a great old fashioned hands on guy who truly loves what he does. I watch every minute of every video and learn so much.
I started clay barring our older daily drivers about 10 years ago. Wax after and it's amazing how nice your vehicles complexion comes back to life. Well done Chip, your efforts show awesome results with some sweat effort, while teaching the world :-)
That Maguires number 7 show car glaze is the stuff. I use it and love it. That laquer paint is drinking up those oils in the polish, the more you use it the more it will shine
Eddie Oran was a electro plater at the time of inception into Kustom Kuture in Paramount California. Hard Plates aren't going to give out any time soon even after seventy years. Steel wools fine. I prefer Scotch-Brite pads and Barkeepers Friend. Although when first learning of this from Dad cleaning his 1959 triumph tiger chopper he used Comet Cleanser and scouring pads.
You're doing it right, Chip, thanks for chatting about cleaning the paint and chrome on that '50s beauty. I'd keep its appearance original, too, with maybe a little something underneath to make it ride low and slow. 😀
This is exactly what I was feeling watching this! I'm no one special, but having dinner with Chip would be amazing.
I agree that the music is a nice calming touch.
Agreed

60+ years from now, I hope someone that finds one of Chip’s creations takes the same care and respect that he’s doing for this Barris
Chip's grand or great grandkids maybe.
I hope chips creations are as relevant then as this Barris is. Barris defined an era
Great example of ‘respecting’ the work and creation of an icon. Thank you Chip, this ‘example’ will live on.
Watching Chip do all that menial work on this car instead of having his guys do it shows how much respect he has for the work Barris and Jefferies did on this rig.
No other big name guy would do this, which is why Chip is THE MAN!
EXACTLY!!!
It's important to him that it be done right, to a high standard. Like the wise man says: "If you want something done right, do it yourself."
@@cristianabarsuglia629 Are u implying that Chip has no faith in the people who he hires? It sure sounds like it.
This is not menial work but rather details that demand total understanding of all the parameters as well as a willingness to do the tedious work which requires observation and evaluation as he moves through the process. Chip is the modern master.

I love how Chip stays true to the masters who influenced him and his father... "It's only original once".
You are doing the right thing with this car. This car is a one of a kind piece of art, you will never get a chance to do this again. Thank goodness you came along and helped these guys hopefully someone will drive and show this car.

Pure passion. Love it Chip. Thank you for bringing us along for the ride.
Chip I always thought of you as a great person and an awesome car builder. This has taken my respect for you to another. I appreciate your hard work.

One icon preserving another icons labor of love. George is looking down proudly.
And RUclips preserving Chip.
Been following Chip for, many, many years of my 76, along with his Pop. They have never ceased to amaze me. Much respect!
Just clean it up as best as possible. No paint, no re-chrome

This for sure. I also think Chip seems to like this work after so many new fabs and "...or we're going to lose the shop" TV drama builds

Love his knowledge and respect for a legend.
I've been listening/watching chip ever since the overhaulin days
Great restraint and respect to the originality of a true Barris Kustom!!! Fantastic and thanks for sharing it's definitely Koolsville.

that is truly awesome. The care and love you are giving that. This is one of many reasons why Chip is the best of the best
Amazing work with this car. So well preserved!!
Chip I was going to suggest a clay bar for the model overspray. What was I thinking, of course Chip Foose already knows that trick !!! 👊😎👍
Long time fan of your work! Your work 'cleaning' this historical surviving piece of rolling art is laudable (and wholly in character for who you are)! It's only original once. Kudos!!!!

The music compliments this car perfectly, well done!
Just a note. Sam Barris lowered my first car. A 1953 Henry J. He charged me $4. He lived in Carmichael at that time. Good job on the Barris 53.
Chip, what a pleasure to see you use the same method that I used back when that car was built. Nothing has changed I'm 81' and have been still doing the same process.
Keep the bumpers as they are now, they'll be less cool rechromed. The more original the better, keep up the great work.
It's looking very nice Chip. Nice of you to respect this car to show it like it was back in it's hay day.
Chip, I'm so glad they chose you for this job! It's looking absolutely perfect!
Thank you Chip!!!
What a great video series, so looking forward to the next one.
True work of art brought back to life!!!!!!
an ultimate display of deep respect and admiration towards your predecessors…for some reason this reminds me of messaging my dear, long time passed grandmother…
thanks for sharing brother!
This is why Foose is the sole car restoration and upgrade channel that I follow.
Love how it's shaping up. Well done as always,Chip!
Nice to see the consistent improvement, on the car, since we first saw it!
Love all your efforts & documenting it, Chip & the Team...
Chip sees the car thru a lens of perfection of experience. He does a calculation for every part to judge what needs to be done.
Chip is one of very few ‘influencers’ in his field that has enough respect for what once was, to leave it as-is. THAT’S creative, and professional maturity at its finest.
The only way to preserve such beautiful work of yester year.
Thanks for honoring him this way 🙏🏾
🤩WOW 🤩. Original patina looks great.👍!! Leaving it as original as possible is the only way to go & Chip understands that. FOOSE IS A LEGEND NEVER REPRODUCED!!! Great job 👏 guys !!! Blessings 🙏🌺🌸🌼
HI CHIP THE CAR WAS GREAT BEFORE YOU STARTED AND NOW WOW !! ITS GREAT TOO SEE THE OLD AND NOW ITS NEW AGAIN !! TODD FROM MICHIGAN .
Beautiful job Chip! That is definitely a historic icon piece. I'm glad it's being taken care of by your knowledge and your hands. That means this car has had 3 of the best hot rodders work on it👍🏻
Chip ‼️ keep up the good work ‼️ I've been watching your show for a long time ‼️‼️‼️
What an amazing job you are doing bringing this one-of-a-kind classic back to its original glory. George Barris and Dean Jefferies would be proud.
Chip, I've been following you for years. IIRC the first custom I saw of yours was a '64 Impala(?). But, this is by far the most interesting project of yours that I've seen. Thanks for sharing the cleanup with us.

Its a work of art, the builders were at the forefront of car modification and custom paint jobs. It must have looked like a space ship when it first drove into the sunshine and off down the street. 👍👍
pure dedication to the history of the artisans of the early days of the kustoms. you are the apple that did not fall from the tree
It’s amazing how things have changed over the years with regard to paint finishing
I remember when you were trying to get a good paint finish you always had a little more thinners in the paint to get that good off the gun shine and if the temperature and pressure were just right the paint laid down real nice and then all it needed was a quick whip over with the lambs wool pad and all done

I sometimes think they way too shiny but I think that’s just showing my age
So looking forward to the next video chip 👍👍🇦🇺
Awesome ride love the work George Barris turned out ‼️
Chip uses the word Honest several times. That's the key to understanding and preserving Patina. The world needs more of it.
Greetings from the UK absolutely brilliant Chip totally awesome and agree with the respect that you and your team are showing this beautiful iconic car❤
I got it - Kneaded the Clay Bar. Looks good... Chip. Fender skirts will really set the exterior off - 50s style
What an awesome discovery/ find!! Looking better every episode, thanks Chip!!

The car never fails to bring a smile to my face. I remember looking at the magazines and wishing those were my rigs
So cool the respect and honor you give the original masters. Your so nice and humble.
Labor of LOVE right there folks.
Your a good man Chip Foose ❤
Beautiful one of a kind car🤙👌👍. Greatz from Amsterdam, holland (the Netherland)👋
A true piece of art and piece of history at the same time. So awesome it survived intact after all these years.
Chip could certainly afford to pay someone to do this but he’s just a great old fashioned hands on guy who truly loves what he does. I watch every minute of every video and learn so much.
So awesome what you and your team are doing 👍🏾👏🏾
Man I love watching Chip do his thing! Great video series!!
Neat car, neat story. Love this video series, and the music just takes it to another level. Well done. 💪👍🏼
Meguiars is used on everything with laquer it seems. Cars to guitars!! Thanks Chip, for all the great 'Overhaulin' wisdom. Cheers. 🍻
I started clay barring our older daily drivers about 10 years ago. Wax after and it's amazing how nice your vehicles complexion comes back to life. Well done Chip, your efforts show awesome results with some sweat effort, while teaching the world :-)
Thanks for this installment please keep em coming great work
Such an iconic piece of art/history!! With everything being original including the paint!!
Love that forty’s and fifty’s music Chip. This was so interesting, it shows what a true professional like Chip does to produce a true classic.

That Maguires number 7 show car glaze is the stuff. I use it and love it. That laquer paint is drinking up those oils in the polish, the more you use it the more it will shine

That car looks amazing.
What an amazing customization! I agree. Just clean it and keep as is. What a GREAT car!
You're doing it right, Chip, thanks for chatting about cleaning the paint and chrome on that '50s beauty. I'd keep its appearance original, too, with maybe a little something underneath to make it ride low and slow. 😀
