I really respect that you're restoring this car rather than restomodding or trying to redo the original finish. It's a nice bit of rodding history that's being preserved but made to drive again, a great thing, letting people see how it was when it was done back at that time, preserving not just the look but the sound.
As a youngster in the early 60's we lived in Maywood and when we would visit my grandma who lived in Bell. My brother and I would walk over to Ed Roths shop to check out what was parked out front. Back then my grandma did extra jobs to help out with bills. one of those jobs was doing laundry for Ed's shop. She would laugh about the stuff she found in the pockets. Saying her washer was high as a kite after that. Back then Barris and folks like Ed were Kings of cool as far as we were concerned. Ed use to sell T-shirts he air brushed for 10.00 bucks. Alot of money back then. Funny how all the cool cars did their best to get that Custom look back then. I was blown away when I pick up your post. What a find! I hope the new owners will enjoy their blast from the past. With a Gentle touch from Todays top customizer's Thanks, Chip, for keeping alive a COOL ride.
My dad owned a full service gas station, I grew up there in the summers because my mom was the bookkeeper. I learned to pump gas when I was 6 or 7. My first job in the garage was washing the Whitewall tires.
It is so awesome you chose to preserve the patina and history of this work of art rather than blasting it apart and doing a full restoration. You are good man Chip.
I am older than you Foose but that license number on the key chain was there for a purpose. If you lost your keys if someone finds it the person drops them in the mailbox and the post office would of had a way to get your address and mail it back to you.
I cannot tell you how much I have enjoyed these videos. I anxiously await the next one. Your attention to every detail and preservation of this Barris classic should deeply touch the soul of any car guy. Wonderful work Chip.
I swear the last time i saw that car was the late 70's. So cool you're doin this for the mans kids. A barris original bro!!! Too cool it survived She's really gonna be a stunner
I have saved some time and money using nail polish like this, I thought it was a sketchy idea until now, haha. A Touch up bottle is $15 and a Nail polish is $4. Car is looking stellar!
I use a round cross section ( not flat ) wooden toothpick to touch up those small chips. Just look real close at the chip and try to fill up the cratered hole plus a little more, so that it will shrink down to a near flat surface when it dries. You can even trim off some of tip to get the application just right.
So many others would repower and up grade the suspension etc, so it`s nice to see it being kept as it was built..........Custom Cars started somewhere, and this is one of those......Nice work Chip.....!
Coming along beautifully.. .keeping it real...keeping it alive. Thanks for the license plate info. I'm doing up a 41 ford convertible which was a bit modified in the 50s with a 324 rocket with trip stroms and a little lowering. My Dad's old plate was a NJ AOD 44 . I'll have a couple made up. Looking forward to the next clip!...Eastcoast viewer.
So "Kool".... Thanks again for the great content, love watching the progress... Someone is going to be very fortunate crusing this truly historic Hot Rod.
The good thing is, if Chip Foose is involved, we're going to see some cool looking customs. I'm 82 years old and have owned 35 or 40 cars in my lifetime, and I still love looking at them and stirring up some old memory of a car I owned, or one a friend had owned. Keep it going Chip!
BROTHER FOOSE 👋. PROPS TO YOU & YOUR TEAM IS BRINGING THIS LEGENDARY CAR BACK TO LIFE ONCE AGAIN👍. DONT FORGET TO DO YOUR NAILS BEFORE YOU DRIVE IT:)) BOK BOK BLESSINGS 🙏🌺🌸🌼
Man this is so cool. Chip, your Ace buddy. Wish I had the money cause you'd be the guy to build something no one has ever done before, my dream resto mod. So glad your doing the job on the car. Looks awesome.
. . So enjoyable watching the car come back to life. Love the respect for the style of the time with your repairs and attention to details. Lookin forward to seeing you drive it, you sure you'll be able to part with it? I don't think I could. . . 😎
That's so incredible! Thanks, Chip! We are losing our history so fast now and your preserving this car is a HUGE deal. I think this car should go either to the Peterson group or on display at the Smithsonian Museum.
Im so glad there are still car builders like you who know that the little things like having a OG license plate is a real pleasure to see on a old car!
Really enjoyed watching this series. I have picked up some good tips along the way. Good decision to keep original, IMO. Thank you for visiting KY last month, come back again!
Great job on preservation. You know for us old guys ,preservation is a more realistic project that we can finish in our lifetime , and drive around to enjoy before our kids take our keys away from us . Chip , I met you at the chattanooga motor car festival a couple years ago . We were eyeballing that Bill Mitchell grand prix !!! Anyway....are you going to go to chattanooga this October. I plan on talking to the organizers today to see if I can get a preferred spot at the show . I plan on driving my two 51 merc sleds 245 miles up from Alabama. One is a gene Winfield modern radical custom The other is a traditional radical custom built in the late 80's as a Barris tribute . Anyway .... I would love to see you again and for you to see my sleds !!! Hopefully corky has a place in his warehouse to stage one sled while I run back to Alabama to bring the other one . Sincerely Ted Kennedy. PS . Long live Jessie Combs !!!
Can't wait to hear it run and you taking it for a ride chip God bless you both of what you're doing that is amazing All the people won't do that The one thing is just an old car but you have the knowledge and that's what car guys do Good luck 🙏❤️🥰
"Some of it needs to be restored to preserve it." Seems so many miss that point and won't fix what needs fixin'. "It's how it was" is so overused. The original owners and builders had great pride in their machines and wouldn't want it left ratty just because it was found that way 60-70 yeats later. I am really enjoying this series. Thanks!
Looking niiiicceee chip !! You your daughter and the boys are making it look amazing but most of all your making history shine through of George Barris once more !! Question: are you gonna bring it to SEMA this year?
America... Hot Rods and Customs. The part of American Culture the West Coast set the standard in the 50's and onward for the US and the World. Magnificent work
I love that you are preserving as much of this car as you can. My father-in-law gave my wife his '61 Chevy K10 short bed and we restored it about a year and a half ago. My question is where did you get the license plate redone in Florida? I have our trucks original black and yellow set and they are on the truck but over the years they have faded and are a little dinged up. I would like to replace them with new to finish the truck. any help is greatly appreciated.
Washington required all registered cars to get the new Whit with Green lettering "WASH 63" plates in 1963. Dumb thing to have made people like the brothers who owned this car do. From a Washington state resident. I love what you are doing to this cool custom from the past.
Hello Chip it's beautiful are you work with this car you know what it is the value I mean the value doesn't really matter but this beautiful machine it's amazing I'm glad you got the eyes for all these good things God bless you take care
Chip, my wife wants to know the color of nail polish so she can paint her nails “Barris Red”. Keep up the high quality videos! Also, maybe your daughter over shopped for herself!
1961, I was 16 years old. My father gave me a 1949 Chevy Dlx Club Coupe. All thru high school, that was my ‘love’. I would spend hours dreaming on customizing that ride on a Coca-Cola budget. Gold engine bay…. The stylin rage of the day…couldn’t afford the paint, so the soapy Brillo pad on the brass radiator, ‘was close nuff’. The split manifold was like a dream come true. Annoyed the neighbors everyday. Well done Mr. Foose.
Nail polish is great for little stone chips. And so much cheaper than those touch up pens you find at the local part stores. I've been using nail polish on cars for 35 years or more.
Like you said, the car didn't have side pipes when Barris built the car but I'm betting it's going to look really cool with them on the car. Hopefully the car goes to a collector or a museum where it will be well cared for.
Look how excited Chip is to get a priceless classic back on the road 😁 it's just fun to watch him problem solve a little piece of rubber sticking out where it shouldn't be 🧐🤨🤔 every day always learning more education on cars never stops 😉 thank you Chip Foose 😎
I’m thoroughly enjoying this project! I liked the lake pipes when I was younger, but my tastes have changed over the years. My preference at this point would be to lose those pipes.
Great Old Piece of History. And who else to Preserve that Beauty. CHIP, Who Did the Plates For ya. I have an old 60's Muscle Car, (65 GTO Convert). I'd like to get the Plates Re Done..
Nice to see your daughter and you hanging out
Chip, I love that you took this project on! LOVE watching you bring this diamond back to life and shine again!
I think this is one of the coolest projects ever from one legend to 3 legends
As a 58 year old hot rod fanatic, I thank you for preserving this rare gem!
is this a bot? Why would anyone start by telling their age? I always get suspect when comments start like this.
@@youtubedev0 How many bots are 58 years old? You're paranoid.
@@lugnuts7800 its a number, any anyone that feels the need to share a number, race, gender in a youtube comment is definitely a bot.
@@youtubedev0 Definitely paranoid.
Foose, you are a master! Your dad and you have perfected car crafting! You are a joy to watch!!!
I am so glad you are taking care of this piece of history!!

Had to check the full comment. I thought I might have made this comment and forgot!😂
I love traditional customs and hot rods. Great work. Thank you for sharing. All the best.
It is so awesome you chose to preserve the patina and history of this work of art rather than blasting it apart and doing a full restoration. You are good man Chip.
Love watching this series. Very cool watching you light up when you find a small detail that adds to the story.
They may not have been detail oriented back in the day but luckily for everyone Chip is! I appreciate the genuine respect for this car. Well done sir!
Sir. You are truly going above and beyond for the family. That's the Chip I admire......
I am older than you Foose but that license number on the key chain was there for a purpose. If you lost your keys if someone finds it the person drops them in the mailbox and the post office would of had a way to get your address and mail it back to you.

Loving this video series. Music just takes it to the next level! 💪👍🏼
I have been watching this series and I think chip should buy the car so it stays like it was meant to be and still be enjoyed
I have saved some time and money using nail polish like this, I thought it was a sketchy idea until now, haha. A Touch up bottle is $15 and a Nail polish is $4.
Car is looking stellar!
Me too but if Chip does it, it’s legit 👍🏻

Car is looking awesome 👌 👏 👍 love to hear that sound of the convertible pump and top in action .Great job 👍 chip and team .
This is my current favorite series, very interesting historically ànd glad your only restoring what's there.
So many others would repower and up grade the suspension etc, so it`s nice to see it being kept as it was built..........Custom Cars started somewhere, and this is one of those......Nice work Chip.....!

I'm limited by my vocabulary, so I'll just say I'm LOVING this series!
Chip is not only the master , he's so down to earth as well
Thank you Chip for preserving this piece of automotive history!

I’m 38 and wanna quit my job and work for Chip. Love your work, car is starting to look great and can’t wait to see you driving it.
Awesome series. keep them coming, I can't wait to see this run again.
What a class act! Keep it as original as possible, yet make it all functional. By the way, your daughter is a cutie, just like my 3 Granddaughters!
That's so incredible! Thanks, Chip! We are losing our history so fast now and your preserving this car is a HUGE deal. I think this car should go either to the Peterson group or on display at the Smithsonian Museum.

Really enjoyed watching this series. I have picked up some good tips along the way. Good decision to keep original, IMO. Thank you for visiting KY last month, come back again!

Looking niiiicceee chip !! You your daughter and the boys are making it look amazing but most of all your making history shine through of George Barris once more !! Question: are you gonna bring it to SEMA this year?
I miss White walls. I’ve had white walls red pinstripes. We used to leave the blue one so people knew you had new tires till the first car wash.
Can't wait to see the finished product!!
What a cool project, love the old school cars, thanks Chip!!
So awesome. I can't believe how great the top looks for as old as it is, Ron
America... Hot Rods and Customs. The part of American Culture the West Coast set the standard in the 50's and onward for the US and the World. Magnificent work
Hi Chip. Very clever to think of the nail colour . I would have dumped the original brushes and used proper touching in brushes . Thanks Chip.
I have really enjoyed this preservation series. What a beauty.
I love that you are preserving as much of this car as you can. My father-in-law gave my wife his '61 Chevy K10 short bed and we restored it about a year and a half ago. I've really enjoyed this restoration!
Great progress! A night & day difference with the polish and cleaning!
Thanks for a great video Chip and what your doing .
You my friend are a true automotive conservator. In your retirement you should run the automotive department at the Smithsonian.
GREAT work Chip and putting this back on the road!
Really like these updates!!! Thank You!
Very nice 👍 I think Chip should buy it and add it to his collection
I admit that l didn't normally follow your channel, but this car has made me a subscriber, just love this car.
👌😍👍It’s looking beautiful! Who would have thought nail polish would do the trick!!
The old nail polish trick... worked well on my motorcycle for many years and miles.
I think it is great how the interior is the same as when left the factory
Washington required all registered cars to get the new Whit with Green lettering "WASH 63" plates in 1963. Dumb thing to have made people like the brothers who owned this car do. From a Washington state resident. I love what you are doing to this cool custom from the past.
You actually saved it thanks Mr,. fosse
he makes money when it sells so don't pad him on his back to hard!!!js
Hello Chip it's beautiful are you work with this car you know what it is the value I mean the value doesn't really matter but this beautiful machine it's amazing I'm glad you got the eyes for all these good things God bless you take care
Chip, Thanks for your vintage car stewardship. The car is a beauty.
Chip, my wife wants to know the color of nail polish so she can paint her nails “Barris Red”. Keep up the high quality videos! Also, maybe your daughter over shopped for herself!
Once again we visit, and get a chance to appreciate your efforts. What a fine job, dressin the o'l girl up proper. Be well.

Well done Mr. Foose.
Nice new casings
Fresh whites my boy!!! Nice...enjoying this series fo sure Mr. FOOSE!!!
I would love to see Chip buy the car! He would be the ultimate care taker of the car.
Nail polish is great for little stone chips. And so much cheaper than those touch up pens you find at the local part stores. I've been using nail polish on cars for 35 years or more.
A time capsule if there ever was one. Thanks for preserving it for others to enjoy.
I love that you still get in there and get dirty. Another car builder that I love doesn't really get in there and do the work.
We need longer episodes!
Great video production. Thank you for NOT playing music in the background while someone is talking.
Love this series.
That is awesome almost time to cruise it to see how she runs. Can’t wait to see it roll ☝🏽❤️🙏🏽
, excellent stuff Chip 👆🏻💯
Could imagine it as a lead car in a procession of original built Hot Rods, or what 👌🏻
I remember this car from a magazine pic, at 73 and hot rodder my entire life, seen many of George's cars, used to see him at shows a lot
Like you said, the car didn't have side pipes when Barris built the car but I'm betting it's going to look really cool with them on the car. Hopefully the car goes to a collector or a museum where it will be well cared for.

I’ll be sad when this series ends but happy to see the car received such good care! Hope the new owner appreciates and enjoys it!
I’m thoroughly enjoying this project! I liked the lake pipes when I was younger, but my tastes have changed over the years. My preference at this point would be to lose those pipes.
I love this car. I also love the doo-wop tunes!
Beautiful 👍
Great Old Piece of History. And who else to Preserve that Beauty. CHIP, Who Did the Plates For ya. I have an old 60's Muscle Car, (65 GTO Convert). I'd like to get the Plates Re Done..
We love you Chip. This car is like a dream…
The "King of the Kustomizers" is happily looking down at the sight of his creation in Chip Foose's careful and detail-oriented hands!
Fantastic detail..
